  • Sara, one of our surgical nurses, explaining compression that will be worn after liposuction to the arms and bra line.
    Arm Compression after surgery:
Depending on your procedure you have done you will have compression garments that you will go home in. You will be placed in compression immediately after your surgery. When getting arms completed you will also have to get compression gloves with just finger tips exposed to prevent your fingers and hands from swelling. The only permitted time of being out of compression post-operatively is while you are in the shower, then you will put them right back on after. It is important to be sure you are putting the compression on properly, you do not want to put holes in the compression or cause irregularities that may hinder your results. To put on compression you will start in the wrist area and slowly pull up, you will work that fabric all the way up the arm. If you are doing the arms you need to make sure that this gets all the way up to the axillary crease, if it is stopped short it's going to cause a permanent lobule there. It's going to be very important throughout the day for you to check and make sure that it is pulled up as far as it can go into that groin crease. We have different sizing options to place patients in and it can be different per patient. If you have any problems with not fitting properly you just need to let us know please do not cut the compression or alter them in any way, these can again hinder the results of the areas treated. You will be in these compression for at least 2 months after surgery, that is why it is so important that they are put on properly.

Yes the hand swelling is real😮 I’m one and a half weeks post op and I’m just now starting to feel a little better. I’m still sore but I can move around and be more active. My arms are still swollen however.

Every arm vest I've tried so far has absolutely DUG into my armpits - is this normal - or am I wearing them too small? I don't mind the compression part -at all- but the armpit dig is nearly unbearable and I can't seem to find anyone else out there who has this discomfort. Is there a trick to wearing these? Should I go with a bigger size - even though it would mean less compression? (I have not tried just the sleeves - with no vest/connecting part - would these promote creases/deformity in healing??) Any advice would be most appreciated.

Do you have drains after surgery?

No drains and no stitches! We keep the adits open, place absorbent pads on the areas for blood-tinged drainage, and let the adits close naturally. Patients typically drain for 2-4 days.
