You need your ai set to ranged. Melee units will always try to be at max range. If they are further they will get closer, if they are closer, they will move further away, this can and will lead to them falling off the edge if they have a ranged weapon. Ranges AI will always stay still as long as they face and can see the enemy and are in range.

Why he got affected cuz there's a certain reason most of them will buy you when they're on the ground that's what happened to the other units like the most they will get bit on the ground the zombies will bite them once when they're at 1 HP

The zombies have a continuous area effect of damage some times it lingers after death.
