We as beat makers or producers need to get rid of these problems by not paying them every month and start creating our own sound melodies and drums why pay if we can't use I'm cancelling my subscriptions today
Splice stuff is over used, and it will eventually come back to haunt you. I’m not saying drop it completely, it might be good to Keep up with what they are using so you can steer away from that, also identify who’s using what to know where they stand. Fresh sounds and beats are what you want especially vocal hooks.
I also tell ppl to shazam the loop to see who else has used it. Since I came from the sample and chop era of the SP-1200, I know how to flip it or replay it. But alot of new producers don't come from that.
@@cuesound71 Yes and no. I don't wanna take any chances so I'll either chop and rearrange the melody loop or I'll replay the chopped arrangement i created with a totally different sound and/or fx just to make sure. 😊 #tryingtostaycopyrightstrikefree
I use melodies on splice to create my own melodies and chords around it and then delete the sample. I build so much around the loop that I no longer need the loop
The issue is when an artist or producer uploads a beat/song using a splice sample to UA-cam's Content ID via distributors like Distrokid. Audio/Video that contains non-exclusive samples (like samples from Splice) are not suppose to be uploaded to UA-cam's ContentID. However artists and producers don't read. As a result the artist/producer that uploads a song/beat to UA-camContentID, gets everyone else who uploads a beat to UA-cam with the same splice sample copyright claimed. Reading comprehension is the issue.
Exactly. Happened to me so many times. But also artists do it with sold beats, which sometimes you don’t even know. They’ll just submit a whole album to DistroKid or something and one of the beats may be on there. Hard to say just to exclude one or two of the songs in that case. Right now it’s basically whoever gets to it first on UA-cam until something is resolved lol or go through the process of disputing it
This is a problem that exists because producers are being LAZY! You should NEVER be using a melodic sample as-is. Edit, pitch, chop, drop it in a vst and re-trigger it, etc. That should always be what you're doing with your samples. Yes, it takes longer, but it's FUN. Plus, music doesn't need to be done fast, it needs to be GOOD. Slow down and be creative!
Thanks Bolo! Very rarely use Splice for anything other than beats. I’m one of those rare individuals who can actually play keys, guitar, and sing. I’m not that great at making beats and that’s where Splice comes in because they’ve got a metric tON of nice drum loops/one shots. I do like some of the female vocalists they have there though.
It doesn't matter what you use ... Hundreds of other people are downloading that same sample or that same sample loop and using it in their songs and if they are, they're probably copyrighting them and uploading them to Spotify and Apple Music and then you download the same loop and use it in your song after someone else has already used it already.... Just never use a loop just by itself. Cut it, flip it, rearrange it, pitch it up. Pitch it down
Best way avoid splice, save $1000 get 3 big chicks from your local church and a cpl of crack head musicians make your own sample library lastly learn to play instruments on a basic level and make your own samples
You can’t throw tracklib into this conversation. Because you are required to clear the sample before using. If you pay to clear it you have the right to use it. Not only that it will be harder to use the exact same part of the song as someone else.
I will continue to use splice samples every now and then. But, I think using and rearranging midi loops is way better, especially if you have a large vst library and effects plugins like stutter edit 2 and shaperbox.
Thank you soo much for this info. Even though I learned a few of these things from school, this was a good reminder‼️ This video definitely helped me finish a project
Thanks Bolo, I only use Drum loops, finished 4 songs on my new album and just found out about these copyright snags. Hopefully I should be good if only drums? Do I need to filter and also pitch drums? what if I pitch the finished songs up in the final mix to master?
Really thinking about getting splice, at least for a month or 2 to mess around with different samples. Right now I'm just sampling from old music straight from my phone.
It seems the big problem here is that Producer A makes a track using a particular Splice loop, this track gets logged in the Content ID systems, then Producer B makes a different track that happens to use the same Splice Sample. So Content ID strikes Producer B on account of using Producer A's content because it doesn't know that it's a Splice loop. A solution to this problem might be for Splice to load up all it's samples into the Content ID systems and for the Content ID systems to be programmed to ignore them during copyright checks. A lot of expensive effort, no doubt why it hasn't been done. Personally I would say carry on using Splice samples (which you are absolutely licensed to do by Splice) as you like to overload the DSPs help desks, encourage them to sort this out. It's even more expensive to hire an army of new customer service reps to sort out thousands of automated false Splice strikes. Even more expensive still if they get their arses sued for loss of earnings on account of incorrectly/illegally interfering with the release of artist's 100% legit material.
Preciate it brother. You got any recommendations on a good Wordpress theme for beat selling? I’m looking at one but am waiting for them to respond to a couple questions I have.
Hey, Potential noob question here, recently gotten really into using beatmaker in my workflow as it and astra provide redrum like sequencing capability, but have recently had problems with keeping the sequencer from playing over my session even after I've closed the plug in window or exported a lane or sequence [regardless of audio or midi] What do I need to do to be able to use it in my sessions similarly to how one might use the redrum sequencer in reason I mentioned before without it breaking my sessions? Please help + thanks in advance!
Might be a stupid question but would it be an issue if you blend two melodies together? I almost always pitch and change shit up but there are times where I blend two different melodies together to get a different sound.
Blending 2 melodies together is a good idea. One rule of thumb should be to chop or alter the samples. chop in it in 2,4,8 rearrange the parts, or a beat delay or something. I heard a dude do a tutorial on beat making. I recognized the loop from splice. I told him this same thing. At that point I realized some guys just do this for kicks. They have no desire to be great outside the neighborhood. You can not take a loop, put a trap beat on it and say u made the beat. U can until money is at play.

Get inspired by it. DON’T pay for a subscription- splice is one of those programs that’ll come and bite you in the ass. Once you start using it you’ll get caught up in their game, because and soon as you drop your subscription guess what your no longer covered by “I’m a member” and all your songs will instantly not be yours, besides why do you want loops that are used by 10,000 people. And they are using the same samples, loops, and beats there is only so many ways you can tweak those sounds they eventually all get copyrighted, and the last thing you want is to be fighting over someone claiming your royalties.
To be honest i feel like its cheating..... using someone else his work rather then creating your own sounds. I have used samples and i still do but the more i use them the less it feels like the work is mine.

I just want to ask why does everyone seem to have so many different versions of Akai drum machines or just drum machines in general. I’ve always changed the pitch and speed as well chop when dealing with splice
You can also take the sample melody and turn it into midi.
What about Loopcloud & Tracklib is similar to a Splice, is UA-cam targeting those samples too for copyrights.
