Congrats!! 🎉
Congratulations
Yall are the champions!!
Can't wait for 500K! Been with you for at least 2 of the three years you've been putting up videos and you are the one I am always looking forward to. Thanks for the great content Stud Pack!
A man is, what a man does. I,m terminator system model 101.
Watching these videos make me feel productive despite having sat in front of a computer all day.
Vicarious!!
I'm recovering from surgery, so I second this comment, haha
Same. Now I need a nap.
:D
So exciting to see everything start to finish up! This has been an amazing project to follow along with. Thank you so much for all your double work; building and filming. Can't wait to see the Stud Pack House start!
Haven’t seen that avatar in awhile
Don't know if you guys have used it but schluter ditra or similar uncoupling membrane is a great way to go under tiled room floors instead of backer. Looking good my dudes!! 👍👊
U guys have come such a long way since u started on youtube 3yrs ago. I enjoy seeing the stud pack evolution. I've learned so much just by watching ur videos.. thank u Paul and Jordan for sharing all of ur knowledge. I kno its helped alot of people!! Gives me the confidence to tackle a few projects of my own
100%. I just watched a 2020 video where the guys removed the iron toilet flange in mom's house. Paul Jordan you guys have really gotten GOOD at this!
I'm interested in local ordinance and code you had for the shower pan. Did they wave the requirement for the drain inlet to be 2" below the threshold. Also are you water proofing outside the shower? Was there a requirement?
Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing the renovation of the stud pack house
That fibatape sure looks like the wrong type of fibatape for the cement backer board. The correct stuff is grey, alkali resistant type, but maybe it's just the camera, lighting, and my screen.
Hey Paul and Jordan... we're here for the journey regardless of whether it's backer board or drywall. Keep the videos coming!
Oh, also, welcome to TEXAS!!!!
I like the method of prefilling my drywall seams with Hot Mud (mixing with glue) to make a bulletproof seam. After that cures (depends on the mud. I like the 45 minute stuff) I seam tape all joints again with the Hot Mud. I can then use All Purpose Mud to start on my finish. This method saves time and will prevent possible cracking in the future.
Same method I use
Why do you guys not use green board in the shower area instead of regular drywall or is that not done anymore?
It looks much bigger now that it's starting to take shape 👍
The mesh tape over concrete boards should be the grey colored Alkali-Resistant type.
Great team, great videos, keep up the good work!
It comes in white or gray. Big box stores just most commonly carry it in the gray FibaTape brand, which is what most people are used to seeing.
I like to use spray glue like 3M Super 77 under the fibre tape runs. Really helps hold it, especially with old tape that’s not sticky enough.
Awesome guys. Is that the right tape for the backer board??? It looks like fiber mesh for sheet rock. I think backer board fiber tape is grey. And why didn’t you guys use mold resistant board for the sheet rock??
I agree, it doesn't look like the right mesh tape for backer board.
watching the Stud Pack at work makes me want to strap on a tool belt and start nailing something. Great work guys, cannot wait to see it finished.
Y’all do more work in a week than some of us do in a month!
You guys make great videos good job!
You said ask a question... So maybe the camera doesn't show the color but on the backer board you're supposed to use a gray mesh tape some people call it fiber tape but it is made just for backer board and I believe it's alkaline resistant or something like that and that's what makes it different from drywall mesh tape fiber fuse or other. So it seems like you said the right words but it just did not look Gray...
So did you use regular mesh drywall tape or did you use the proper backer board tape?
Keep up the good work!
It says it’s rated for backer board and thinset on the package
06:18 oh uh, I see a backer board upside down Paul, that's a big no no 😂
same thaughts here 🙃😎
I commented as well !
Are you supposed to use a certain type of mesh tape when using a concrete product? So they don't react with each other?
I would have made that thinset a little wetter for that backer board.
Almost ready for tile, except for the waterproofing ...
Mind blown!! What the heck is that bucket vacuum attachment?!? Exciting to see backer board everywhere. Great work guys!
It’s a whale tail, there is also one that’s orange called a Dust Hogg!
put water in it and it helps keep the dust down
Oooh, I love this too! No more caustic dustcloud into the face and hair… last bathroom I tiled (we have high humidity) my hair was crunchy from the poofs
Yall are crushing it as always!! congrats on 400k! decided to listen to foo fighters at work after seeing the episode where jordan played it. It's some damn good workin' music. Awesome to see Jordan getting in there and explaining stuff for us. can really start to see this bathroom is finally coming together
As an alternative to "scraping" the self-stick fiber tape to set it with the knife, we use the same roller for setting rubber window flashing. IMO, it does a much better job and doesn't have a tendency to pull or tear the fiber.
You should try densShield tile backer,it's easier to work with, lays flat, and cuts like drywall
You got the wrinkles in the flat joints because you didn’t prefill, when it dried out the tape shrunk up in the grove that wasn’t prefill Ed with quickest.
On the left pony wall at the end of the video, the letters are upside down on the Durock! Noooooo!!!
Honestly, I've never put much effort in having them all face the same direction, but I have to say it looks like a pro installed that stuff. Time for me to step up my game! 👍
Get a drywall banjo from homedepot. You can tape 80% faster
Backer board lettering on the left pony wall is upsidedown; I know, Jordan's fault. I've subscribed to just two channels, and one is yours (love your stuff)
I've always questioned this design. Seeing the pony walls up, it's a terrible design. What a waste of opportunity.
Love that you guys are back on a schedule of posting. Best channel on youtube
I like the part when Paul says I custom cut this piece of cement board. What makes that piece a custom cut compared to cutting any other pieces with a hood in it ? 😂
Did you use the correct mesh tape for the concrete board? Looks like the drywall stuff.
Open showers like that are DRAFTY. (Please tell me that isn't plumbing for a urinal.)
Long time follower first time commenting. Impressive work and love the details and commentary. One suggestion, gag reel!!!!😅
I haven’t seen a vacuum attachment on a bucket to catch mortar/thinset dust before. Very interesting.
They are called whale tails or something like that
3:45 Your Blue Monster looks amazingly similar to the hand tool that I use for cleaning corroded battery terminals and cables when working on cars. Now I just pointed out a second use for the thing. You're welcome. 😄
You guys didn't ream your copper tubing. What's up with that.
Other than that every thing looks super cool.
Paul, Jordan... who is the third stud in the pack??
When I saw you do that I cringed in memory of doing 1200 sq. feet of backer board by myself in my house. It didn't take long to get knee protection. That durock will kill your knees. Oh my...hope I don't have nightmares now. 😅
I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. I may not necessarily use it tomorrow, or the next day, or even longer...BUT...When I run across anything and everything I've seen and learned watching your videos that might have been a challenge previously, it's like, Hey...No problem. I know how to do that!! Please keep the great videos coming.
Binocular Bob? Please refer to me by my proper name: Microscope Mike.
Great vid, why are y’all leaving La for Texas! And where in Texas? I’ve looked back to see if I may of missed announcement. Some how I stopped getting notifications and vids from ur channel.
@stud pack
Didn’t even need to ask, as ya knew we’d want that link to blue monster pipe cleaner etc….
Way to go Paul/Jordan 👍🏻👍🏻
Quick question - I couldn't tell what you did for the seams between BB and drywall. Do you just treat like BB?
STUD PACK, The Pony wall on the Left of the screen has the Text upside down !!!! Come on guys !
Forgive us 😔
@@StudPack I’m just joking with you guys, the bathroom looks great ! Thanks for the reply !
Should of you guys extended the back board a little farther past the pony walls that but up against the dry wall? It seems like its cutting it close for when you install the glass.
Hey guys, at 5;27 in your video, what are you using to cut the Cement board, is that a standard utility knife?
Thanks.
Joe
I been watching you. Enjoying the education. I’m also in Louisiana .
Every part of this I watch I have to remind myself that as DIYer I can only do so much along working and have kids. lol Just about finished with my remodel and I see all the thing I could have added. Looks awesome! Excited for the finished look.
Dang… I always watch the ads for you guys to show support. But the ad I just watched for 15 minutes almost had me pushing the skip button (so close!) haha 😂
Great job. Looks great. I wonder if this large shower thing will go out of fashion eventually? I was at a friends house that had a massive "shower for two". It was easily 6 feet deep by 12 feet wide curb-less with no walls. I thought it would be great to have a shower after swimming in such a cool large shower. But......
It was like having a shower at the local gym! As soon as that water shuts off, you are freezing cold standing in pools of cold water. Horrible experience.
My shower at home is 34" x 34" and for me it's perfect. Because the heat/steam has nowhere to go, it's always a nice hot experience. Even after the water shuts off. I just open the door, grab my towel, shut the door again and dry off in comfort. Then I shave my face immediately (thanks to the open pores on my skin, that is also very comfortable) Floor stays dry and it isn't a chore to clean it too since it's small. I get people who love baths and want a nice tranquil space to soak, but these massive showers seem like a waste of space.
Don't get me started on those dumb "rainfall" shower heads. Water/soap goes in your eyes and so you have to stand away from the stream of water to see what you are doing...and that leaves you cold too!
He sweated cooper to get all those hard ass plumbers happy "if you don't know how to swear pipe, you shouldn't do plumbing". I like me a sharkbite and don't worry, it won't leak in your wall for no reason. An no please, don't forget that regular plumbing has failures too so it isn't just PEX or sharkbite that fails.
0:50 could you guys give me some pro tips about what you did with the warped and twisted half walls to adjust them. I think I have a warped half wall I built for my shower with a similar geometry (sans the shelves) made of 2x6. Your advice would be appreciated.
Geez, all that cement board. Mapei Mapegaurd UM on the floors! Can make it completely waterproof. Way faster and easier. Their mortars are way better than Versabond too
Paul, the future is here, press my friend. You can press water, you can press gas, you can press steam, well you can even press freon! Jump on in my friend, the water fine!
Y’all have to get rid of that cement board!!! Moisture/mold resistant Sheetrock and kerdi membrane on top and it’s ready for tile. So much easier, and saves a ton of time. Even kerdi/go board is quicker then the cement board just ups the cost a ton.
Are you sleepy but I watch your channel I have no idea about the construction is a comment that you’re doing a good job, meanwhile you didn’t use moisture resistant sheet rock, number two there’s no shower pan in the shower, number three can you put cement board over plywood,Which is not totally wrong but you should’ve went to plywood first, but you really should’ve done a mud job this is certainly a handyman operation I wouldn’t buy no means call you guys contractors or tile guys and I certainly wouldn’t let you do a shower for me cause I think it’s gonna leak like a fucking sieve
I noticed on this bathroom a concrete block wall. How do you prep for that? I took out an existing one piece gold shower, and am now faced with an exterior block back wall. It looks like you furred it out. Did you place the cement board over that?
I enjoy watching your videos, it reminds me of the show this old house.
I wanted to know if greenboard or mold resistant drywall a requirement in your township?
Where the backer board and drywall meet, are you using thinset or drywall compound? are you using paper tape or mesh?
I’m interested to know the significance of the two cards tattoo on your right arm. Totally awesome job
Looks great but question, why go back to concrete board after using that new backerboard on the last bathroom projects videos?
What is your preferred thinset for sealing backer board seams and screw holes??
This is nice. I am looking to do a very similar bathroom, some good ideas. I was thinking of doing a niche in my pony wall but I like the idea of just a shelf.
Love your videos, been waiting for this one to drop for a few days!!! Re doing my bathroom as we speak so I absolutely appreciate you guys. Next time I’m in Texas, drinks are on me. You’ve saved me a lot of money empowering me to DIY instead of hiring outside. Thanks again!!
Wow, 400,000! I remember when I was rooting for you guys to hit 300K. Great job as always. Can’t wait to see this one finished. Best duo on UA-cam! 👍🏼
Your using the wrong screws on the backer board. Those will not hold to the test of time. Cement board screws is what you should be using.
I seriously love this channel. It is the only subscription I have the bell on for! I can’t wait to see that notification of a Stud Pack video! I learn so much from every video. Keep up the good work guys!
All I can see is the one backer board that is upside down on the pony wall lol.
Also the grey tape made for the cement board is significantly better.
Looking fantastic, my friends! Burning the candle at both ends... Been there, done that! Keep your eye on the prize, and it'll happen sooner than you think!
You used visually warped wood. A screw tip holder that's not magnetic. I'm not taking any complicated advice from you.
Can you show us how you notch sheets and boards to fit pipes/outlets/trim/etc? I can never get it right!
Why do you shout talk ? Drywall paper tape you can just soak will take out wrinkles.
We love your work in The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. 💯
Why use cement boards why not ditra?
Are those backer boards water proof?
Can that backer board be used on the outside of a building for tile installation?
Is it possible to make those half wall thinner (esp if you're not doing plumbing through them or do they have to be a certain thickness to hold up the tiles
Stud pack why backer board the plywood? Wouldn’t the thin set and tile be enough to keep water out?
I had H2O on my Like Button✌️😁
Tell ya what guys I've used red guard a lot in my tile shower i build it works great bad for your lungs but sure beats a call back and replacing a floor and ceiling keep up the killer work guys
Getting ready to put up an ADU in my backyard and I've learned a lot so far. Thanks for your great explanations.
Ya'll need to buy the carbide scoring/ cutting tool for cement board and backerboard. Its only like $12 and I couldn't live without it now. I was kicking myself that I didnt buy one sooner. Saves your knife blades and makes cutting cement board much faster and easier.
Absolutely, I forget all kinds of tools but I never forget that
Have you ever used Schluter DITRA under your floor tile?
ggod stuff guy’s really like the in-depth explanations - kudo’s
I would not use pex for anything, pex is only good for people who don't care about water pressure
Is PEX even allowed to be used as conduit by the NEC, or do you have to treat it like running wire without conduit?
Would you not use Mapei Aqua Defence on the joints so it creates a full waterproof wall do if fit any reason water does get by the tile grout then there’s always that security the water won’t damage the wall behind.
How did you end up protecting the pex pipe in the window opening that you covered up with the cement board? It was my understanding that pex is sensitive to UV light. Are you covering the glass blocks from the outside?
I was wondering about the windows too. They mentioned way back they planned to wall over them but I'd be interested to know exactly what they did, especially with the pex.
Do you guys ever ream or deburr any pipe you install? Love the channel but this drives me nuts!
theres knife for those boards you know Backer board scoring knife.
hoping youre gonna use the Laticrete products for the water proofing? no red guard please!!!
waterproofing??? seems an after thought. Louisiana, no? lots of moisture, i don't get it.
40 minutes ago?! Yes please! Keep up the good work!
Hi Paul what tipe of tape and mud would use on carks ! I have 1 that in a closet that a,p,x 8th of inch gap.
That's gonna leak so bad and rot all the wood behind and underneath 🤦
You guys really do rock! If I see the clock, I'll fall asleep too. Keep me busy and I'll exceed my goals 😃
Stud pack is like sofias angels in sweden, just so fucking awesome! :D
Prefill w/ hot mud than topcoat with AP, if this happens….if want
What happened to the windows behind the drywall? Will the owner brick them up at a later time?
