    If you are a beginner watercolor painter, you have found the best tutorial I have seen in all of the many you tube offerings. This will most certainly get you in the right direction to your own discovery in this amazing medium. Thanks Dianne!

    Thank you so much for this wonderful watercolor tutorial. I still struggle with controlling the water on my palette and on my paper. I appreciate your teaching style and always learn something new. Thank you so much!

    Such a great tutorial with many unexpected tools and techniques that I haven' seen in my year of getting started in my art (specifically watercolor) journey. I think the mantra for watercolorists, as you confirm, is... let.it.dry. Thanks so much for a wonderful lesson!

      Don’t be afraid to not wait for the “ let it dry” solution. I think the true magic of watercolor happens when things are still wet.

    As primarily a watercolor artist I am so glad that you are doing more watercolor tips. Your instruction is the best! One thing I would love to see you do a quick tip for, in watercolor, is how to paint something like the sun dappled side of a building, where the shadows are grey but the sun areas are golden - think sun on the side of weathered cedar shingles. How can you make that merge without blending too much and losing the distinctiveness of each color? Thanks so much for all that you do to help artists learn.

      I'm so glad to see another specific question about watercolor, and a good one, too. Look for this Tip to appear in late February. We film these several weeks in advance.

    Love that you’ve moved into watercolors for now, Dianne! Only recently learning them myself, so very much loving your tips! And will my wife be surprised when I tell her I want one of our old toothbrushes she uses for picky cleaning spots for watercoloring, lol! :)

    Fantastic info for beginners! This would've been so helpful when I started with watercolor some years ago.

    Thank you Dianne. In oil painting I am used to preserving my darks, it took a while to get my head around to protecting my whites in watercolor. I just kept forgetting to do it while I was painting was so frustrating at first. I found that Oil paint does what its told but watercolor is a partnership lol. Love the toothbrush tip cant wait to try it. Best.

      I often say that watercolor is more akin to making pottery than to oil painting. By the way, thanks for joining Studio Insiders.

    Your tips are so amazing, I learn something new in every one of them. I'd love to see how you would tackle glazing in watercolor - particularly glazing to change the color of a previously laid wash. Thanks so much.

    Watercolour ground white could also be used to create whites over dark paints....just picked up from one of UA-cam videos 😊

    Thank you so much for your videos! I am learning so much! Questions...whats a back run? could you please make a video on that (or maybe you have and you can direct me to it?)

      Nikki, a backrun is a lacey little area that appears when water runs back into color that is drying.

    That's a really cool palette Diane. I've never seen one with holes in the corners. What's their purpose and what is the brand. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction  3 роки тому +3

      The palette is a Tom Lynch porcelain palette. Theoretically, those holes are for parking brushes, but for my purposes, the just sit there looking like holes 😊.

      In the Studio Art Instruction thank you Diane. I agree ..for me the would be kinda useless. You did a great job explaining about the water on the paper.
