I used to listen to this music with my pregnant girlfriend, she died in a head-on collision with a truck and then everything went up in flames, and her and the three babies we were expecting burnt alive.
I think the guy on the motorbike flees from the province. The video also stylizes the monotone life of the youth of the province and makes it somewhat beautiful in its sadness. Very poetic imagery.
Karl von Donnerbalken mir spricht das video aus der Seele sieht bei uns ähnlich aus also so der lebenstyle schule dann rumfahren chillen saufen dann abends ins Bett und am nächsten tag alles von vorne
The whole 'heimat' thing is probably tru since u can see the hometown of at least one of those guys (Moderat) in the beginning. Rüdersdorf, a town next to Berlin. The rest actually reminds me of the B1 (a highway in the eastern parts of Berlin) car-tuning/-racing-gang that actually exists/existed (don't know) and meets/met up over there. Too me this feels more like: Someone from this 'youth-gasstation-everybody-has-had-sth-with-everybody-already-crew' is now driving his bike somewhat 'recklesslish' tru the woods of east berlin (if I'm not mistaken) in remembrance of the good ol' times. I really wonder why it still feels so sad tho.. Did they all die in a terrible car-crash? Probably not :) Probably everybody just went their ways and nobody stayed here with 'me' (the driver/ess(?)).
It doesn’t necessarily have to have a storyline to make sense. This video just captures the beauty of human kind and it’s surroundings... And anyways, music videos without an obvious meaning are better because you can determine their meanings as a viewer. I think that was the whole idea anyways...
For me, this masterpiece represents someone who grew up in a small town, with a close group of friend, and probably never really left this town, and finally, he decides to leave, to go to a bigger city, to pursue his life, to have a new start. And he leaves behind his past, this little town, where his friends will probably stay, and grow old there.
that's exactly what the Moderat guys said this video is about - they are all from small east German towns and obviously all of them left for their careers (they live in Berlin now I think) and this video and song was meant to reflect that.
that's exactly what the Moderat guys said this video is about - they are all from small east German towns and obviously all of them left for their careers (they live in Berlin now I think) and this video and song was meant to reflect that. As an aside, this song totally reminds me of my husband because he is also one of these people this song could be about - he grew up on a farm in a small village and was close with a lot of people from a little town close to his village. But he left his village, town, country even, travelled and worked all over and now lives in a city to pursue his own dream - just like these guys.

My mind always drifts away, when I hear that song. It gets me into a very melancholic mood. Such a masterpiece like all of their songs. I went to a Moderat concert back in September in Berlin. It was a great experience for me and I wont forget this one :)
Ja, ich höre diesen Track immer noch... Und ich wünschte so sehr, dass du Sascha, mein Tankwart in solch langen, trostlosen Nächten wärst. Danke an euch drei für dieses Meisterwerk der Melancholie!
the video clip means he (Sascha) lost time while was recovering from acident of motorcycle, It's happened after second album, and he wrote a lot of songs to this new álbum in these times... '''When I was dead asleep Behind Towering walls They built a world outside And I Missed the wake-up call''
What's wrong with losing control ? Emotions are the purpose of living on earth. "I Think Therefore I Am", but thinking without emotions makes us robots, emotions are what makes us humans. When you dance in the middle of a crowdy party and you "lose control" of your body, feeling the beats and the music without worrying about how you're actually dancing, that's just pure liberty. When you can't keep laughing while listening some stupid joke, that's pure happiness. When you cry watching your children for the first time and you let all those emotions coming inside you, that's pure joy. When you give a loud, high cry, because you are hurt, when you scream because someone or something makes you angry, that's how you let the violence come out. I don"t get what is wrong with losing control sometimes... (sorry for my poor english)
There's a difference between your eyes welling up when your child walks for the first time and crying because of a fucking song. The significance of what makes you cry is important. Men are not supposed to cry over trivial things - A man who is willing to cry for no reason at all is an unreliable man and is a weak man. The art of being a man is to rule over your baser emotions and not let them influence your actions and your words. A man will cry at something as trivial as a song is likely to be let his emotions govern what he says and does, other men, real men, do not like to be in the company of such low creatures. Civilisations are not built by men who cry, they are built by men who conquer emotion and govern with reason and logic. Uncontrolled emotion is a female trait.
Reception of art is quite a personal matter, not something that I would refer to in a UA-cam comment written to a stranger I don't care about. However I felt a need to explain that concept for you, because your mindset bothers me in a negative way, so I cannot leave this as it is, without a reply confronting this mindset. Let's take the example of the child taking its first steps, which you seem to accept. When you look at the child and supposing you would cry, it's not just the light, which bounces off that little creature and makes it to your eyes and brain, that makes you cry, because that is meaningless. >The< meaning behind that scene is the thing that triggers your emotions. The meaning is what carries significance, and it is in your mind. Now, I assume that you agree with the statement, that art can have meaning. Not a one, universal meaning, nor necessary the one which original author thought of, but one that somehow creates / is being triggered in your mind during the reception of art. If you don't agree with it, we have nothing to talk about anyway. Now, you are not able to predict what the song meant to the person above, therefore you have no idea of meaning, and therefore, significance behind it. You are being just purely judgmental, closed in your own concept of "manliness". Furthermore, you said "uncontrolled emotion". Firstly, let me say it properly - you do not talk about controlling emotion, you are talking about suppressing it. And expressing emotions is a human trait. Suppressing emotions is what in my opinion creates psychos. I think you would be surprised how strong and "manly" (in your meaning) a woman could be. And I would not be surprised to see how much of a "pussy" can a man be, especially the one which is barking the loudest about being strong. Btw, nice movies concerning topic: Equilibrium, American Psycho. If someone will read trough and reach this point, please feel free to also recommend something :)
You made my day guys: that video easily turned me into cosy evening after whole week of hardworking. Can't wait for your concert in Warsaw 02.02. #moderat
I listen to this track a lot and everytime I wonder, whether Sascha didn't want to pitch every A to F note change in the first verse correctly or if he just missed it (e.g. 0:17). In the second verse he hits it perfectly (1:49). When I saw Moderat Live at the Wuhlheide - he sang each note change perfectly. I know, I'm really picky on that, but it stiches each time I hear it :D

lol the feelings of those lost nights, reasonless drinking with so called friends and finding yourself feeling numb at night. I'm happy I got out of those gatherings, crazy how this caught (at least for me) the feeling of being a lost teenager at night :)

I lost a friend last year. This was our favourite song to listen to together. emotions are strong with this one.
@100001 1 damn you seem more emotional over that comment than the person who lost their friend. lol you okay?
stay strong

The sad nostalgia of meeting up with friends in our cars... miss those days.
Life can get better but those times feeling lost togheter with the people who loves are just a spell stucking in your soul forever
Yes mate, many years ago, south of Rome, the specific place was absolutely not relevant for us: just the friends. Isn't it?
I think the guy on the motorbike flees from the province. The video also stylizes the monotone life of the youth of the province and makes it somewhat beautiful in its sadness. Very poetic imagery.
Yea! I think so too
all things about missed youth are always actual(

funny how the video doesn't even have a storyline per se, but still manages to take you away in your own memories..awesome
yup, leaves you a lot of personal intepretation. That's what Art is all about...

Dejan Papež This is actually a _really_ good analysis. The somber tone of the song makes me believe that this here could be the true meaning...
This masterpiece involves into some kind of sweet melancholy

This song makes my heart hurt.
