When the Ka class was originally out shopped, they had a 'streamlining' shroud on the front to cover up the rather unsightly ACFI feedwater heater systems. They also happened to collect soot to when the class was converted to oil burning between 1947 and 1953, the streamlining was removed, along with the ACFI systems witch was replaced with an exhaust steam injector. Ian Welch, who owns most of Mainline Steam's locomotives, including Ka942, built a replica of the streamlining which was fitted to ka942 when it made it's return to steam in 1990, since then it was removed and refitted multiple times. It currently is 'wearing' the streamlining. On a personal note, I like the streamlining shroud, it gives her/it a distinctive look from just the circle boilers as you get with all other steam locomotives, other than the A4 obviously
Great video, this directly from the KA double drivers video 👍👍
Great video!!! Some really excellent sound and love all those double-heading hard-charging moments!!!
Zane, i am happy for you to post this clip.
Dennis King,,,,
great video! thanks for sharing.
3 Ka's have survived into preservation (Ka's 935, 942, 945). Currently only 942 is operational.
Amazing captures, friend...
Well done!!
Do these 2 Ka class steam trains still exsist today?
Great footage, can i have permission to post this on my facebook page Railpage NZ?
Why did they change or (modify) the face of Ka942 they should of kept it original like as seen in this video

Connor Johnson ohh woow cause i was just wondering quite a few videos online with it having circle classic boiler like its brother ka945
Currently 945 is having a long awaited overhaul, but there are a few times I remember from nz railscene of 945 having the shroud as well
Connor Johnson Are they going to make it like ka942
Emmanuel Habtegabre possibly, not quite sure
