I've seen lots of photography channels on UA-cam and they all are too busy talking about specs and sharpness while you are creating legendary photos with the same gear!! Your photos are so insanely Awesome I literally thought the thumbnails to your videos were clickbait!! Seriously, why don't you have like 10 million subscribers already?!
Hi Mark, I got my D500 around the same time as you and have been following ever since. Your informative approach to getting setup with the D500 has been great and these adventures I come along on are fabulous thanks so much and keep up the great work. Phill from the UK
Your narration just keeps getting better. Also, I'm thankful for the trivia you put in, not just about the birds, but also other insect, wildlife and surroundings. Keep up the great work! Really appreciate all the effort and content!
Mark - Love your photography videos. They are more than an endorsement or review. They are instructive and entertaining. They also show your love of wildlife photography.
Mark Smith you’re welcome. I’m excited about putting some of that knowledge to work very soon myself. I get my Nikon D500 very soon. I would like to know what lenses you recommend. Perhaps that is another series.
Mark, I made that comment before seeing the heron and frog image. Equally stunning! Really enjoy your personable style of presentation and your work. BTW, where are you in Florida? I spent a lot of time a few years in a row in and around Sebastian Inlet State Park near Vero Beach. It's such a wonderland for water fowl as well as fish.
+Dj Toman The heron really presented quite the opportunity. This whole adventure was just north of Sebastian inlet. I am currently in Vero beach. Great place for wildlife.
Wow! There are many very good photo/birding channels on YT and elsewhere but I will venture that yours is a contender for first place. I only say this as I know I haven't found them all. Aside from the stunning photos and great videography, I think your narrative style is what sets you apart from the best. Thanks so much for sharing!
Found your site and this was the first video of your's that I have viewed. I really enjoyed it and also like how you add some factual side points of interest. I did want to point out that I really like that you display the EXIF data for your shots. I wish others would do that. It does help with the learning process as I see a shot and then work backwards in my mind as to why those particular camera settings were chosen. I look forward to viewing your past and future videos. Thanks.
Mark , BCBIRDMAN here and obviously i am in British Columbia and i am a bird fanatic and a huge fan of the video i just watched and will be subscribing to your channel ,well i already have lol! The amazing little bird you wanted help with identification is a Vereo and i believe from the shot you captured with that amazing d500 and 200-500 which is my dream set up i have a d7200 which i love but would love to have the 153 point auto focus with 99 cross type but i have 51 points, lol! The Vereo i think is the Olive Vereo and just a helpful book if you dont already know because you are quite knowledgable with your stuff is the Stokes guide to North American birds i bought it just about a year ago and it is the best bird guide i have and i have 79 bird guides
Mark, I was checking out some of your older videos and brother you have some of the best birding luck of any photographer on UA-cam, PLUS you are truly a master camerasmith, your pic’s are the best of the best, I tell my wife all the time, I inspire to be like you!! Plus you are very very knowledgeable about Florida my favorite place in the whole world! Lou
Absolutely brilliant photography..... What a day, o much activity.... Always a delight to watch your vids.... Thanks for putting up settings and explaining the reasons for them..... Great stuff....
Hi Mark, what a great video, you really inspire people to get off their arse, get outside and take photos. By the way, love your little grey socks. Rick from Australia
That Heron shot...Oh WOW! It looks like a spectacular day was had but those alligators make me very nervous! Another brilliantly entertaining video. Well done, Mark.
Enjoy watching your bird shooting experiences in Florida. I just purchased a D500 to have the ability to photograph sports, action & wildlife. Living in Fort Myers, FL gives me the close proximity to J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Preserve. Currently, I will be using a my Nikkor 70-300mm lens. BTW...I have owned a D60, D90, D300, D700, D7100 but now have my F100's, D800 & D500.
Thanks for watching. Glad you are enjoying the videos. You are in a great place to catch some awesome birds! I go over there every once in a while. The D500 is a great camera. Have fun with it!
Love this! I have a D500 shipping to me this week, and your video is making me want to get the 200-500 NIKKOR lens ASAP!!! I also live in Florida and want to get into wildlife / sports photography, this video is inspirational to me. Thanks and keep up the good work. I'm subscribed now!
So glad I found your channel! Really enjoying your videos. I feel like I’m there with you! Those alligators make me nervous though! Thankfully, we don’t get those up North!
At 3:43 the same insect is here in srilanka too. It will draw random paths when it moves on sand which looks like a world map or country map. So we call this insect as 'mapping bug'
Hi My dear Mark , I am requesting you to make about nikkor 200-500mm lens which inlude how use it and tricks you use to make more better and functional on nikon d500
Very nice video!! You are a very good photographer and storyteller. Your videos not only help us learn photography but also about the different species of animals and insects. Best of luck for future videos, and keep up the good work.
Wow that is a great day of birding mark. You did well with the Common Yellowthroat, waiting for it to come to you. It looks like Australia's Eastern Yellow Robin, and in the last shot of it it is perching just like our EYRs do. I really do like yellow-coloured birds being my favourite colour. Well done with the Tricoloured Heron, the D500 grabbing focus without you being able to see. In have noticed that in all Osprey photos I see carrying a fish they seem to intentionally orient the fish along their centerline for aerodynamic purposes I guess.
Loving your videos Mark, a real breath of fresh air. Your enthusiasm makes the videos and your insight especially with the latest Nikon gear has me hooked. I've been a Nikon user for over thirty years I reckon the D500 and 200-500 could be the solution I need.I really like how you edit your photos, they look very natural. cheers from the UK. tony
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video with wildlife images. I myself love photographing wildlife. My visit to Florida was one of my best bird photography days, such a great variety. Living in Puerto Rico, in most cases I have to travel the whole island looking for migrating warblers. This fall I should be moving to Florida so I am looking forward to great photography times.
That heron in flight with the frog shot is insane!! I know what you mean about the screaming frogs...one night when I live back in florida, I was walking around near my house and I heard this weird freakin sound that sounded like a child screaming or a dying cat lol. Turned out to be a big old frog being eaten by a rat snake!
Thanks! I got really lucky with that shot! Good to know this screaming frog wasn't the only one. It kind of freaked me out. I could imagine hearing it late at night and wondering what it was. Funny thing is snakes can't hear so the screaming trick didn't work that night, huh?
That tricolored heron with the frog shot was amazing. Believe it or not, I caught a tiny green backed heron catching a frog half it's size a couple years ago. I totally agree that herons and egrets should be considered birds of prey.
Great video and you captured some awesome images. I've been hoping to get a D500, however, I have to work it into my budget. I'm shooting a D5500 Nikon with a Tamron 150-600mm (not the G2). I live in Florida and nearly all my photography is in the Wildlife Management areas around central Florida. Thanks for sharing
What a fun and informative video! I love the stories of the animals.... and coupled with your screenshots of your camera specs, this was a wonderful presentation. I just bought the D500 to go on another photographic South African safari, so fast action, super zoom tutorials are much needed. I am an enthusiastic amateur, and have a lot to learn. Thanks and keep these coming, please! Am getting for Christmas the Tamron 150-600 lens....my first big big lens.

You sir are, a great storyteller and a fantastic bird photographer! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words!

Thank you! I'm trying to add a little more info with each video when possible. Thanks for watching.
I finally bought my D500 and 200-500mm, all thanks to you.
Mark - Love your photography videos. They are more than an endorsement or review. They are instructive and entertaining. They also show your love of wildlife photography.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate that.
Mark Smith you’re welcome. I’m excited about putting some of that knowledge to work very soon myself. I get my Nikon D500 very soon. I would like to know what lenses you recommend. Perhaps that is another series.
Your channel might be my new favorite on UA-cam. Outstanding photography and outstanding stories.
Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying them.
The heron's flight with the frog is really an award winning shot. Keep up the good work cuz it inspires a lot of people.
Thanks so much! I need to research some contests for this picture!
Great photos you don't realise how lucky you are to have such a wonderful variety of birds, pleasure to watch.
Thank you! I do realize how lucky I am. I love every single minute of it.
Every image did tell a story. And you did make it more awesome by narrating it....Kudos from India.
Thanks for the compliments and for watching.
That osprey and fish photo is one of the most spectacular nature images I've seen. Just mind boggling. Chapeau to you, Mark!
Thanks so much! Those birds are incredible.
Mark, I made that comment before seeing the heron and frog image. Equally stunning!

Great content Mark! That was a shot of a lifetime, just awesome.
Thanks! I got really lucky that day.

That Heron shot...Oh WOW! It looks like a spectacular day was had but those alligators make me very nervous! Another brilliantly entertaining video. Well done, Mark.
Thanks for the compliments. It was fun. Those gators made me nervous too especially because we hiked about 2 miles to get to where they were.

Hi Mark, loved the bird shots but I think your pelican with the fish tail hanging out was your best shot so far. Nice work and enjoy your videos.
Thanks. That pelican shot is tough to beat! I like that one a lot too!
Love this! I have a D500 shipping to me this week, and your video is making me want to get the 200-500 NIKKOR lens ASAP!!! I also live in Florida and want to get into wildlife / sports photography, this video is inspirational to me. Thanks and keep up the good work. I'm subscribed now!

So awesome - definitely some great stories! I have a D500 on the way as 'backup' to my D810. Can't wait to test out the D500 / 200-500 killer combo.
I got my d500 as a backup to my d810 and the d810 collected dust. Have fun!

So glad I found your channel! Really enjoying your videos. I feel like I’m there with you! Those alligators make me nervous though! Thankfully, we don’t get those up North!
Just came across this video while looking for tips on my newly-purchased 200-500. That heron shot/story alone was enough to convince me to sub.
Thanks for the sub. Enjoy your lens. It is a good one.
Wow. Unbelievable photos. The frog photo was just out of this world 🐸
Thanks!
What a great day, video, and photos!
It sure was!
Your excellent narrative kept me intrigued to the end, great captures Mark! Well done!!

Thanks for all the great compliments! It was a great day for sure. Ospreys do seem to know how to carry the fish so it is easier to fly.
Loving your videos Mark, a real breath of fresh air. Your enthusiasm makes the videos and your insight especially with the latest Nikon gear has me hooked.

Wonderful video, Mark. My heart missed a beat (or two) with those gators. Those photos with the frog are simply stunning.
Thanks. Those gators were a little too close at times. I was nervous after seeing the first one.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video with wildlife images. I myself love photographing wildlife. My visit to Florida was one of my best bird photography days, such a great variety.
