- Ghost notes are an essential technique for any bass player looking to add some funk to their bass grooves. But the ghost note technique can be a little tricky to work on when moving between muted and fretted notes.
In this lesson we're going to use an awesome bass riff example from the Talkingbass 25 Bass Riff Challenge for working on the technique.
Learn the bass riff from supplied tab and sheet music then play along with the supplied backing track over at the TalkingBass Members Area!!

Mark! Speaking of ghost notes... you should check out Vincen Garcia - "aprieta".
Damn just listened. Insane. Thanks for the heads up.
Lean on the string with enough force to mute ( or, deaden ) it , but not enough to press it down and touch any of the frets .Once the string is muted , pluck it with your fretting hand.
Thanks Mark! Breaking it down the way you do makes it seem achievable!
Yes it works just fine. Thank you teacher Mark. Good lesson.
very nice video Mark
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
God Bless
Good stuff Mark. Hope all is well in your world.
Hello Mark! Checking in from NY!
The best bass channel ever
Congrats mark!!
Awesome!
Hey Mark! Hello from South Carolina buddy.
fun riff
Thanks mark. Lesson came at a perfect time as I’ve been trying to get better at ghost notes. Now if I could just get rakes……
excelent
You said the fingers in home position are "parallel" to the strings,...but I think what you were going for is "perpendicular." Great tip about muting the E string with the top of the picking hand R thumb!
Should be parallel to the frets. Not the strings.
Fingers parallel to the strings? Don’t you mean perpendicular to the strings?
Mark, what’s wrong with your app?
Apple have taken it down because I won’t provide in app purchases
Parallèle aux frettes, pas aux cordes. Not parralel to the strings but to the frettes
Who cares about the bassline. Just explain to beguiners how to play ghost nites and where to play them. Anyone like myself who can play basslines like that already know how to play ghost or muted notes
It’s spelled ‘Beginners’. Not ‘Beguiners’.
@talkingbasslessons Ah, the only point I can make is pointing out a spelling error reply.
