Thanks Taz Taz! We have had some good trips for sure. One Man’s Odyssey came up with this trip, and both Ultralight Outdoors and myself were happy to tag along! It was a good time out there.
Awesome job man. I really enjoyed this trip. I appreciate you and Nate, having us along. I'm glad you got the shot of us in the pump house. That really shows how eager we were to get out of the wind. And those were two awesome campsites. That loop was so great having that much water. Made it really convenient. Great job on your editing. I made Caden feel special pointing out to him that he's the only other person that talked in your entire video.
Haha! I really liked that shot of him saying “Good job dad!”. I had to leave that in for y’all. It was really cool to have a desert route with so much water, and that pumphouse was phenomenally located to get us out of the wind at lunch time lol. One Man’s Odyssey did a good job planning the route, and as always it’s great hiking with you!
Thank you 🙂 Couldn’t agree more on both the winds and the water. Overall it was a pleasant trip. I wouldn’t mind going back and exploring it some more one day, and it is probably a good route for introducing people to backpacking.
Hey all thanks for sharing a fun get away to the LNF it’s great to see you all enjoying nature, sorry for the hurricane winds ! I have to practice rock placement too - it’s been awhile…. Love to see kids backpacking and proud dad’s out there - you guys made my day. Hugs.
It was really cool to see how well his son did out there! I’m bummed my own kids missed out, but there will be other opportunities. I’m glad I figured out a good way to do the rocks without smashing my fingers while leaving enough room for the cord to not rub against the rock. Just wish I figured it out sooner haha! It was a great trip and got to practice new skills :)
Thanks so much! That means a lot to me :) It was fun putting this one together! Although I say that every time haha, it’s fun making videos which is why we all do it lol!
Thank you! It was very nice except when the thorns were shredding us to ribbons haha! Otherwise great views and plenty of water, which is a nice thing in the desert.
Really incredible footage, and cool, creative shots. You did a great job capturing the beauty of the canyons and the warm feeling of being by those fires in the high winds and cold temps. My favorite part is watching us all huddled together in that tiny pumphouse. Claustrophobia has never felt so comfortable!
Claustrophobic and the threat of tumbling bricks! Seriously though, thanks for the comments and thanks for planning this trip. It was a fantastic time with new friends in a fantastic setting. Everything worked out real nice, and the winds and thorns make for a great story :) Looking forward to your video and our next trip!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the sub, and welcome to the channel 🙂 Are you Texas based as well? Just subbed your channel and saw a lot of Texas content there!
Super duper cool trip. What an awesome group of hikers! Those springs are so much more beautiful than I thought. Is that the main falls or are there multiple?
Thanks! It was a good group for sure :) Those were the main falls, and there are a bunch of pools all around above and below them. There were several springs around the loops that are marked on Forest Service maps. It’s a nice little route for sure!
Great video. Some questions for you please. Can one drive a car on the dirt road to Pats Lake without problems or is a high clearance vehicle needed and for this hike, and did you need permission to cross any private lands or acquire any National Forest permits for this trip? I camped in Last Chance Canyon some 20 years ago and would like to do the route you did in the video. Any additional information that you can pass on would be much appreciated.
Thanks for the compliment! The road to pats lake isn’t the best. I’d suggest higher than normal clearance. I have a stock Subaru Outback with all terrain tires, it has 8.7 inches of clearance and did fine. Having said that, a couple places felt a little tight in the Subaru. 2WD was sufficient in dry conditions. In general we didn’t need any permits, it was all National Forest and we can camp at will in this area. If you decide to hang out in Sitting Bull Falls like we did, they do ask for payment of the entry fee even if you hike in from the backcountry. We were not aware of this. They were kind and didn’t boot us out, but for future reference be prepared for this. You don’t need to get this permit ahead of time, just pay when you arrive. Otherwise it was a pretty straightforward trip. The trails were easy to navigate, but they were pretty overgrown in places with thorns that gripped like Velcro and shredded like razor blades. Water seemed reliable around the route, but I’d call the rangers before your trip to verify. I’ll add one more thing. It was hunting season during our trip, which is why we were all wearing blaze orange. Just another thing to check when you go out there. Good luck on your trip! Overall I really enjoyed it. It was a relaxed pace with enough time to really enjoy it all!
You could also start and end the loop at or just outside the gate of Sitting Bull Falls and it would be on a paved road and likely a shorter drive for most. That would take away all logistical questions.
Absolutely beautiful. I think it's pretty cool how you and Ultralight Outdoors keep teaming up.

Another lovely trip, some shots looks unreal. Love it.
Thank you! I definitely won’t complain about this one, it was a good and peaceful time :)
Really nice video. High winds look to be normal here just like the Guadalupe Mountains. Finding water in that area is an added bonus.
Thank you 🙂

Love that waterfall
Me too! That was my first time to Sitting Bull Falls, and it did not disappoint! Thanks for watching :)

Found your channel because of One Man's Odyssey. Glad I did! Great channel. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and welcome! Y’all got some beautiful hiking up in NM!
Nice hike in the beautiful great outdoors. Take care
Thank you for watching! These canyons were a real treat to explore, it was worth getting chewed up by thorns on the overgrown parts 🙂.
Very nice
Thanks! I need to make some movies up in the Gila though!
That was great! Chuco you put so much story into such a short time!! Truly fantastic!!!

Wow, what a great video Chuco. I really enjoyed this and you guys make me smile. The videography and editing were top-notch. Way to go man!
Thanks! It was a good trip with good dudes! Everything came together so well in this video, I’m glad you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it :)
