The panel was so good! I was blown away by Kayla (I usually miss her streams for work), but holy cannoli everyone here is so smart.
I agree, she and Connor are amazing. I dont know if Maya hired them herself but they are excellent at what they do. 10/10 understood the assignment with a sanctuary AND streaming. Love from Sweden

everyone seemed nervous (which is fair as their first time doing something like this) but they shouldn't be they very clearly know their stuff and do incredible stuff, love alveus and grateful for all the staff

@@JimNortonsAlcoholism there's no reason to diminish her accomplish because she has "rich parents". she had to do a lot of work to get the money to afford to start alveus, not to mention it takes work to run a sanctuary... like actual hard work. that has nothing to do with money.
Really intelligent people she has a great team with her this is why it works so well donations being used for the right stuff

There were not alot of people at this panel when it happened? What are people doing this should have been PACKED. They do so many amazing things for animals alveus really deserves the support and attention.

I am soooo down for what Ella said!! Omg it would be so soooo cool if mammoths came back!! I loooove mammoths!! And the fact that they could do something for the geography up there would be awesome.
You all did wonderful. I'm so glad I had the time to sit and watch this video. I know it was a new experience for all of you but it seemed like you each crushed it. I have a question/suggestion for the panel: I think it would be amazing to have printable/shareable resources for educating our friends and families available on the Alveus website. I would love to print materials for my work, church, and local coffee shops! 😊

Great job everyone!! For folks who are not full time twitch streamers, you all seemed so comfortable on this panel and talking a room full of people. I'm sure it helped that it was about a subject you are so passionate about, but still, great job. I had not realized Conner got to sleep with the goats again. Next stop finding that footage. Also, Kayla thank you so much for all you do, everytime I get to hear you speak it feels like I am learning something new about one of the animals (and I am an old who knows a wide range of stuff about a lot of stuff).

Maya has really come a long way since her first video call with Miz. 25 years old and already improving the world on global scale. Alveus has been around for 3 years and 3 months and it still feels like only the beginning.
It's the brain trust! I so wanted to be there and then I couldn't get on the monorail I think because of When We Were Young going on and went back to my hotel room and sulked.

You know.... A shark isn't totally out of the question... At least in terms of being able to provide an adequate enclosure for it. 😏
There are two that are _SMALLER_ than even this one, but the Pygmy Ribbontail Catshark is the one that still *looks* like your cliche shark does. It's size is 6 to 7 *INCHES* for an adult! 😊
I'm sure at that size, it's possibly in the pet trade, so it seems feasible one *could* then gain access to one that has been improperly kept... assuming that doesn't result in its death (which I suspect would likely be the case).
@@Silvar1618 How much "room", for a 7 *_inch_* long shark?
Given the enclosure sizes given to other, much larger creatures, that I've seen at the Chattanooga Aquarium... nevermind George's... I would think that Alveus has _more than enough_ real estate to create a small pond for said shark.
However, I'm no expert, so I'm open to your insight on how much room WOULD be required...
@@Silvar1618 Speculating on the costs and requirements is beyond both of us; however, you raise a good point and I can't argue about the *_need_* for such an animal towards her conservation efforts.

Having an aquarium _would_ facilitate talking about things they've brought up in their panel talk! Insofar as being able to talk about the balance of life in the ocean and how we've greatly upset that balance. They talked about coral die off and extinction, which with coral being the forest of the ocean, taking that away will take away the necessity habitat for animals to not just live in, but seek refuge to escape predators... such as sharks - albeit, much larger ones!
So, it's diminutive size in this instance is simply one that facilitates their ability to house them in a enclosure of reasonable size, but said size would be otherwise irrelevant since it would be an ambassador for ALL sharks. That, in turn, would be home to other fish and living coals, to serve as a combined ambassador for ocean life as a whole. ☺️
I guess I was able to argue that point after all! However, the time for that isn't "now" for Alveus, and I can't pretend otherwise. Such an undertaking would be for a *future-Alveus...* One that has grown and has more staff, and is receiving greater funding, as they would need to build a new and fully enclosed building (garage sized) for such an aquarium to reside in.
@@Silvar1618 It seems pretty clear that Maya has big plans for Alveus, so it'll be interesting to see what they've accomplished in 10 years! It'd be cool if that includes expanding into aquatic life ☺️

they literally said to speak to local orgs that are pushing for policy changes, how is that a bad answer? wouldnt those orgs be best to give them specific answers?

what an incredible team of individuals. I absolutely loved hearing each member talk and it was impressive seeing how nervous yet well-spoken everyone was. It has been amazing watching Alveus grow to what it is today, I can’t wait to see the future 🫶🏼
