Conway's Game of Life on a Torus

- Conway's Life rule is often run on a flat grid with wrap-around. Here we do the same thing but with the sides joined together to make an actual 3D torus. Generated with open source software: code.google.com/p/reaction-dif...

We need to see Conway's Game of Life on a Klein bottle.
And after that, we could also see it on a Groß bottle, too..
..I'll get my coat...

We also need to see it on a Morbius strip
@@randommax7481 It's Morbiusing time
interesting, now I want to see it running on the default cube
Fun. And kinda useful although you would need to inflate the surface into an 3space. Would be interesting to see how the simulation runs inside and outside of the torus. And if seeds behave similarly or if the outcome diverges depending on which side.
"Conway's Game of Life on a Torus"
me: "Conway's Game of Life on a donut"
Original research on this concept: "Toroidal Game of Life" by Ole Nelson, Grinnell College, 2000. I can't find the research online, but I made some very insignificant contributions to it. I'm sure she would be thrilled to know that someone else made a better implementation! I'm sharing this with my students.
this is completely the same as the most game of life simulations where cells can go out on one side and go in on the other side. you can cut the middle part to get a cylinder and then cut it into a square
Yeah but look at that thing.
I think the creator is well aware of that.
Try with a glider
The glider made from the blocks, you can find this at wiki
and he never did.....
there's a glider in the left side 0:10

Have you ever tried experimenting with dividing up the grid into domains and giving these domains different set of rules?
no, is le stesse di prima.
Very interesting idea, man from the past.
I think you just had the best idea in the hisory of ideas.
Correction: just= 10 years in the past just so we're clear
Very cool. Would love to the same thing but with a hexagonal grid.
So, just wraparound game of life.
This was...torustastic! 👍
Conway's game of bagels
Like for instance one domain running upon the rules of Brian's Brain and the other one upon Conway's Game of Life. I'm sort of curios what behavior would be visible at the interfaces between these domains.
Help, I'm on a _game of life_ chain and I can't escape
Have you heard of SmoothLife or Lenia?
holy hell
What about Conway's game of life on a mandelbrot set?
Excelent idea, you should try a glider gun
It would just hit itself eventually.
@@Calthecool That's what makes it interesting! The gliders wrap around and destroy the gun! Try it with a MWSS gun!
da torus life
If the world is a donut
Hello algorithm buddies :)
I didn't actually come from The Algorithm, but hello nonetheless!
Do it on an apeirogon
Something does not seem entirely right. At one point there is a group of four blinkers but they do not blink.
Yes, I must have recorded every other frame or something. Sorry. Try it for yourself in Ready.
Why you calling torus the donut?
"Torus" is the actual name of this 3d shape in mathematics.

Uuuuuuuhh okay

bet you didn't expect the "disliked" comments suddenly becoming useful 3 years down the road, did ya
