This couldn't have come at a better time for me. Today would have been my daughter's birthday. All day I have tried to be brave, singing her Happy Birthday and refusing to cry. I have just sold my house and moving back to my home country. I am so excited to be going home but everything I do hurts, every decision I make is questioned, every minute step forwards feels like betrayal... and yet I must. If I had gone first I would want my daughter to be flying high and loving life, taking every opportunity before her, seizing every moment. So to honour that I am trying to do the same. As the books kept going into the box I was saying “that’s going to be heavy. That’s going to be very heavy.” Because, of course, I’ve done the exact same thing myself 😁
What's difficult about this, besides the actual move itself, is you're voluntarily leaving a place where you've been happy - but given why & to where you're going, plus for whom this is all happening, any sadness you're feeling will be temporary - & quickly replaced with gratitude for this beautiful location's part in all the healing that allowed this wonderful transition to occur.
It is amazing to have videos of your life in the cottage. I have lived and moved from many places in different countries, but all i have is my memory of these past times. At every place i created a beautiful ambiente. Everytime i have left lots of things behind. New things came to me. I treasure it all. Letting go is a process trusting better things will come. Here in Australia we are currently living through the worst floods in our history. While I was fortunate not to lose my home, helping others who have, has been illuminating. From having to let go of precious art to children's school books, family photos, countless mementos that hold sentimental value, has shown me that even in the midst of all the mud and sludge and watter logged helplessness, somehow we find the courage to let go, to give one last look at a treasured item and consign it to the pile of rubble at the front of house after house in street after street in so many towns along our eastern coastline from Brisbane down to Sydney and beyond. The community spirit of helpfulness and commaradiere is what is sustaining us all. Thank you for your precious weekly videos. This was exactly what I needed this morning before setting off for another day of helping where needed. 💖
So sorry you & your country are going through this. I have been there too. We lost everything in the Harvey flooding in Houston but still have our home. Even after 4 years our home is still not completely done. So yes it’s hard. My prayers go out to Australia 🙏🏼
What a bittersweet goodbye to such a warm and magical space. Something I’ve taken note of when moving with a lot of books is to distribute them in separate boxes with lightweight stuff like pillows, small decor, ect. I found that after my parents died, I felt myself hoarding material items from my childhood home that helped fill the void of their absence. As time went on (and is still going on), I'm able to separate myself from these items easier. By making positive (sometimes risky or difficult/uncomfortable) life choices, and creating and nurturing new and valuable relationships with some extraordinary people, we are able to let go of the past and run happily to the future. Growing pains are necessary and rarely stumble-free. You show great humility and gentle strength in your growth. Sending warm blessings your way as you complete your transition!
Your cottage adventures kept me going as I wound up 27 years in Early Childhood in a too busy workplace with less than efficient or trustworthy management. I packed up my cottage a month ago to move 2,000 km to Cairns in Tropical North Queensland to finish my nursing degree. I remember taking down the pictures I bought from your etsy store! I hope you do well. I am 65 and have moved 28 times as my dad and husband both were cdn military. I guess now even though we are retired we still have wanderlust. It doesn’t bother me to move, Isee it as a challenge to start making a new house a home. I am glad that I am somewhat introvert as find we have less friends as harder these days to meet people but I don’t want many, I have a few stitching friends.

Whenever I move, I use wine boxes for books. They’re sturdy, have holes on the sides to make carrying them easier, and they don’t let you over pack too many in one box.

Of course you have to move now. It’s snowing. You can’t do this when the weather is good, it’s not allowed by the gods of house-moving. For me, leaving my gardens and the birds and other animals that would visit it was always heart wrenching. When I have to do something that makes me fearful (if I‘m honest with myself, that’s what I‘m feeling!), I remember what a wise colleague once said to me, when I was worried about something: she said (in German) „Lauren! Habe Mut!“ - Lauren , you should have courage! And I always think, yes, she’s right… I‘m so grateful to her, even though she shocked me at the time. It helps me gather myself when I’m overwhelmed.
Books...... why do they bring us such comfort! In an age of everything electronic..... I still find the feel of a book in my hands brings me such comfort and peace. I think it will always be that way.

I like to do small rituals when moving. To let go material stuff, but also habits, emotional states or anything that doesn't serve my highest good and wellbeing anymore. It is an opportunity to let go of the old in order to welcome new energy for growth. How exciting!

There are times when we have to get out of our comfort zone. Transitions are surely one of them. These are times of growth which, you already know is a good thing. It does surface many emotions. I have just recently made a transition from the city to a rural area after my husband went to heaven. As a matter fact that is when I discovered your channel-in the middle of the transition. I started organizing everything meticulously and ran out of time before the moving deadline, so some had to be boxed up to finish sorting in the new home. I pray for God's peace for you, and strength. A wedding is a wonderful thing to be preparing for. I relate to the chaotic overwhelming feelings. You will have the wonderful adventure of having a partner to share the load of joys, dreams and challenges. I am starting a new life in this new season of my life as a widow. Your videos have been helping me learning to appreciate the joys of being alone after all my adult life was with my husband. I look forward to your new adventures. As someone who has moved hundreds and hundreds of books, I wanted to give you some suggestions (which may come to late in this instance, but here goes). 1) Keep your boxes at less than 40 lbs. 2) pack similar -sized books together 3) pack books flat, alternating spines - esspecially when packing hardcovers 4) pack paperbacks on the bottom of the box and add the hardbacks on top - the paperbacks are better able to handle more on top of them than hardbacks spines can. 5) fill empty spaces with napkins or small towels or even clothes, to keep the books from shifting in transit. 6) fill boxes completely, so that a box placed on top of another doesn't "sink" onto the one below. and, finally, which should be #1- 7) use the sturdiest boxes you can find to protect your books during a move. I have just been through a transition where I have downsized after children leaving home and have moved to a much smaller, simpler way of life which I love. You are right, it is very cathartic to go through your belongings and let go of a lot of things and learn to treasure what you keep (for me it was after living in the same house for 20 years and bringing up 3 children there!). I am embracing the change and even the range of emotions the transition brings. When you look back at your entrance to your home, I can see all the emotions of moving so clearly written on your face and in your eyes. I feel that no matter how many times one moves, it always feels like the end of a chapter, which fortunately means the beginning of a whole new chapter of possibilities.

Same here with a treasure little box, I got it to keep my lil nephews tiny flowers he used to give all the time and my nieces giving me special tiny rocks or sea shells and different things for Valentine's day and I kept all this beautiful moments and now my 4 nieces and nephew are married and with kids. I'm 51.years old and when they visit me they always wanna to see that treasure little box and all my photos albums that i have when they were little. I wouldn't question my self to keep that box, one day you'll see how it turns in a real treasure 🙌🏻💕💕✨

How we all have that phase at one point or another. It’s true for me. 2. That you have lost chunks of memory, and have blank spaces instead and this they say can happen after a scary or traumatic event. This is also true for me. I also have “voids” in my memory , especially during my years of ED. Now that I’m older, they start peaking through and I panic a little. Hard not to be judgmental on oneself. Reassessing, remembering, letting go....yes always a good practice to engage in now and then. A friend of mine kept letters I had written to her in my youth. She gifted them to me recently....we are talking from the 70's! I was so happy to see them, read them. I will not compost them but possibly use them in art collages! The same with letters I have kept for decades from my mother. Her handwriting brings me comfort and I can envision her words peeking out from the paint in future art pieces. I laughed at the big box of books! When my inlaws were newlyweds, my mother-in-law packed all of my father-in-law's books into a big refrigerator box when he was at work. She was so proud of herself until she realized it would be impossible to move. You aren't alone. :)

This video was so beautiful. Although I am not moving, there has been this thing inside of me telling to clear out things in my home to make space. It is so strong that I have to catch myself from getting rid of too many things. I have been donating and giving so many things away and only throwing away what is unusable. I have just sold my house and moving back to my home country. I am so excited to be going home but everything I do hurts, every decision I make is questioned, every minute step forwards feels like betrayal... and yet I must. If I had gone first I would want my daughter to be flying high and loving life, taking every opportunity before her, seizing every moment. So to honour that I am trying to do the same. What's difficult about this, besides the actual move itself, is you're voluntarily leaving a place where you've been happy - but given why & to where you're going, plus for whom this is all happening, any sadness you're feeling will be temporary - & quickly replaced with gratitude for this beautiful location's part in all the healing that allowed this wonderful transition to occur.

It is amazing to have videos of your life in the cottage. I have lived and moved from many places in different countries, but all i have is my memory of these past times. At every place i created a beautiful ambiente. Everytime i have left lots of things behind. New things came to me. I treasure it all. Letting go is a process trusting better things will come. Here in Australia we are currently living through the worst floods in our history. While I was fortunate not to lose my home, helping others who have, has been illuminating. From having to let go of precious art to children's school books, family photos, countless mementos that hold sentimental value, has shown me that even in the midst of all the mud and sludge and watter logged helplessness, somehow we find the courage to let go, to give one last look at a treasured item and consign it to the pile of rubble at the front of house after house in street after street in so many towns along our eastern coastline from Brisbane down to Sydney and beyond. The community spirit of helpfulness and commaradiere is what is sustaining us all. Thank you for your precious weekly videos. This was exactly what I needed this morning before setting off for another day of helping where needed. 💖

So sorry you & your country are going through this. I have been there too. We lost everything in the Harvey flooding in Houston but still have our home. Even after 4 years our home is still not completely done. So yes it’s hard. My prayers go out to Australia 🙏🏼

What a bittersweet goodbye to such a warm and magical space. Something I’ve taken note of when moving with a lot of books is to distribute them in separate boxes with lightweight stuff like pillows, small decor, ect. You showing us your painted box with the acorns and dried leaves reminds me of the scene from my favorite movie Amelie, where the older gentleman cries as he looks through the box of trinkets from his youth (marbles, photos). Such a poignant scene.
Erm.. not wanting to be a know-it-all but I'm pretty sure they are of acorn cups. I think the come from the eucolyptus tree... Keep that box of treasures!!
I found that after my parents died, I felt myself hoarding material items from my childhood home that helped fill the void of their absence. As time went on (and is still going on), I'm able to separate myself from these items easier. By making positive (sometimes risky or difficult/uncomfortable) life choices, and creating and nurturing new and valuable relationships with some extraordinary people, we are able to let go of the past and run happily to the future. Growing pains are necessary and rarely stumble-free. You show great humility and gentle strength in your growth. Sending warm blessings your way as you complete your transition!

I packed up my cottage a month ago to move 2,000 km to Cairns in Tropical North Queensland to finish my nursing degree.
I remember taking down the pictures I bought from your etsy store!

I hope you do well. I am 65 and have moved 28 times as my dad and husband both were cdn military. I guess now even though we are retired we still have wanderlust. It doesn’t bother me to move, Isee it as a challenge to start making a new house a home. I am glad that I am somewhat introvert as find we have less friends as harder these days to meet people but I don’t want many, I have a few stitching friends.
I moved out on my own recently. I'm not quite where I want to be in life, but it's going in the right direction and I'm grateful.
Change is so hard for our minds to process and it can hit you way later than you expect it to, so please take care of yourself if it becomes overwhelming. We'll always be waiting.

Whenever I move, I use wine boxes for books. They’re sturdy, have holes on the sides to make carrying them easier, and they don’t let you over pack too many in one box.

Of course you have to move now. It’s snowing. You can’t do this when the weather is good, it’s not allowed by the gods of house-moving.
For me, leaving my gardens and the birds and other animals that would visit it was always heart wrenching.
When I have to do something that makes me fearful (if I‘m honest with myself, that’s what I‘m feeling!), I remember what a wise colleague once said to me, when I was worried about something: she said (in German) „Lauren! Habe Mut!“ - Lauren , you should have courage! And I always think, yes, she’s right… I‘m so grateful to her, even though she shocked me at the time. It helps me gather myself when I’m overwhelmed.
Books...... why do they bring us such comfort! In an age of everything electronic..... I still find the feel of a book in my hands brings me such comfort and peace. I think it will always be that way.
You’re not alone either. I’m going through some change I’m not quite ready for too, and that was a wonderful way to describe it - we can handle it, it just came a little sooner than expected

I like to do small rituals when moving. To let go material stuff, but also habits, emotional states or anything that doesn't serve my highest good and wellbeing anymore. It is an opportunity to let go of the old in order to welcome new energy for growth. How exciting!

I am currently going through a huge change - moving to a new city, renting a house with my partner, getting a new job and so much more. As exciting as it sounds, to me it has felt so overwhelming, uncomfortable, and scary and I often suffer from the anxiety of the unknown. I am trying to take deep breaths and learning to do all I can to reach the place I have been dreaming about. Uncertainty can make you switch between stress and curiosity. I am trying to be kind to myself and learning to accept how I feel.

There are times when we have to get out of our comfort zone. Transitions are surely one of them. These are times of growth which, you already know is a good thing. It does surface many emotions. I have just recently made a transition from the city to a rural area after my husband went to heaven. As a matter fact that is when I discovered your channel-in the middle of the transition. I started organizing everything meticulously and ran out of time before the moving deadline, so some had to be boxed up to finish sorting in the new home. I pray for God's peace for you, and strength. A wedding is a wonderful thing to be preparing for. I relate to the chaotic overwhelming feelings. You will have the wonderful adventure of having a partner to share the load of joys, dreams and challenges. I am starting a new life in this new season of my life as a widow. Your videos have been helping me learning to appreciate the joys of being alone after all my adult life was with my husband. I look forward to your new adventures. As someone who has moved hundreds and hundreds of books, I wanted to give you some suggestions (which may come to late in this instance, but here goes). 1) Keep your boxes at less than 40 lbs. 2) pack similar -sized books together 3) pack books flat, alternating spines - esspecially when packing hardcovers 4) pack paperbacks on the bottom of the box and add the hardbacks on top - the paperbacks are better able to handle more on top of them than hardbacks spines can. 5) fill empty spaces with napkins or small towels or even clothes, to keep the books from shifting in transit. 6) fill boxes completely, so that a box placed on top of another doesn't "sink" onto the one below. and, finally, which should be #1- 7) use the sturdiest boxes you can find to protect your books during a move. I have just been through a transition where I have downsized after children leaving home and have moved to a much smaller, simpler way of life which I love. You are right, it is very cathartic to go through your belongings and let go of a lot of things and learn to treasure what you keep (for me it was after living in the same house for 20 years and bringing up 3 children there!). I am embracing the change and even the range of emotions the transition brings. There's always sadness when we're leaving our old life behind, but at the same time moving is also quite exciting, a new chapter in our life opens up. I feel that no matter how many times one moves, it always feels like the end of a chapter, which fortunately means the beginning of a whole new chapter of possibilities.
Honestly felt like crying for you. You've shared so much with us! I remember having a really hard time a few months ago and I kept waking up super early, I had moved into a new place and wasn't taking the change well. I'd become deeply depressed. Same here with a treasure little box, I got it to keep my lil nephews tiny flowers he used to give all the time and my nieces giving me special tiny rocks or sea shells and different things for Valentine's day and I kept all this beautiful moments and now my 4 nieces and nephew are married and with kids. I'm 51.years old and when they visit me they always wanna to see that treasure little box and all my photos albums that i have when they were little. I wouldn't question my self to keep that box, one day you'll see how it turns in a real treasure 🙌🏻💕💕✨

Moving can surprisingly be very emotional, sometimes you don't realize how connected you are to the energies of your space. I love where you live as it's not far from where I grew up. I have mourned at least 3 different spaces since 2015.
So hard.
Two things you said I found deeply relatable.
1. That in the past you’ve tended to avoid making decisions that made you feel uncomfortable or self conscious. How we all have that phase at one point or another. It’s true for me.
2. That you have lost chunks of memory, and have blank spaces instead and this they say can happen after a scary or traumatic event. This is also true for me.

Change isn’t easy. But looking ahead - to what lies beyond the overwhelm and chaos - has helped me. And prayer. And deep breathing. And the reminder that this too will be a beautiful thing.

I also have “voids” in my memory , especially during my years of ED. Now that I’m older, they start peaking through and I panic a little. Hard not to be judgmental on oneself. Reassessing, remembering, letting go....yes always a good practice to engage in now and then. A friend of mine kept letters I had written to her in my youth. She gifted them to me recently....we are talking from the 70's! I was so happy to see them, read them. I will not compost them but possibly use them in art collages! The same with letters I have kept for decades from my mother. Her handwriting brings me comfort and I can envision her words peeking out from the paint in future art pieces. I laughed at the big box of books! When my inlaws were newlyweds, my mother-in-law packed all of my father-in-law's books into a big refrigerator box when he was at work. She was so proud of herself until she realized it would be impossible to move. You aren't alone. :)

Right now I'm struggling with living in the future - so excited to find a home and move in with my soon-to-be husband, that I'm not living in the present anymore, longing to leave rather than soaking in these last few months in my current place. I absolutely HATE moving, so I periodically go through and eliminate stuff but I sometimes find myself heading back to the thrift store to repurchase things.. my black skirt, a spatula, a few books! ☺️🤷🏻♀️

Such perfect timing for this video. I loved what you said about going through what you own and considering what you value, what you should keep in your life and what to let go of. Like a spring cleaning. I have a lot of changes coming up as I am moving in two weeks and am having a job change. It can be daunting at times but I'm also really motivated by change. Thanks for the reminder and the video in the midst of everything you have going on. And good luck with settling into your new place, can't wait to see it all come together!

This video was so beautiful. Although I am not moving, there has been this thing inside of me telling to clear out things in my home to make space. It is so strong that I have to catch myself from getting rid of too many things. I have been donating and giving so many things away and only throwing away what is unusable. It is has been therapeutic.
I will miss this special cottage but look forward to seeing your new place. Best wishes.
