Awesome, really enjoyed the interview. HIM forever 🖤
HIM forever 🖤
Venus Doom rules the universe. I know some people don't like Scream Works, but I think it's one of their best albums. Every song is fantastic
Venus Doom sound was everything. I know people who hate Screamworks but that’s insane. It was masterful
Totally agree. Those two are my top two albums.
Oh yeah, spot on.
Absolutely... Easily my favorite two HIM albums
Those two albums I play the most. Screamworks is an absolute fav. ❤
An ex bandmate can say something critical about VV if he wants. It wasn't even that bad of a comment. We all need to look in the mirror at times. You guys don't even know what really went on behind closed doors. Maybe VV was being an egotist and he was just done with being controlled by HIM. He explained his heart wasn't in it anymore. Bands grow apart just like marriages and friendships. I know it would be amazing to see them together but they both have great projects going and are happy with that. Listen to the old albums and be content with what they gave us so far. Many lead singers can really grow big heads. And we know its hard for a bunch of male egos to function in a single room.
As much as I love Ville Valo as an artist I do think we need to remember that he’s capable of making mistakes just like everyone else, even he himself admits as much. I don’t understand why some fans are so overly protective in situations where they don’t even know what happened or what was said. It’s better to remain neutral and let Ville and Gas sort out whatever problems they have on their own rather than speculating and adding more fuel to the fire.
Anyways, great interview. I’m glad that Gas is still able to do what he’s passionate about so many years after HIM disbanded.
I will always think HIM as my favorite band and that all the members were masters on their craft. I haven't heard anyone similar to each one of them.
I understand why some people might be bothered with what Gas said but I don't think he hates his career with HIM or anything like that. He did praise the band and Ville but it is obvious that through the 20 years they spend together something happened that made them grow apart to the point of no longer talking. Ville on his own has said that he did treat some situations in a way that he regrets and that now he knows he would have done things differently and he too doesn't regret the HIM years. Obviously his sound live will be different with a new band but that doesn't mean that his live shows are not good, quite the opposite they are really good.
I do too wish for a reunion 100% and I know that the fanbase would love that and make the tickets disappear faster than we think. But for that to happen, these relationships need to mend. And that will only happen when they decide to. It is sad to think of a lost friendship that went through so many different things together (20 years almost and touring is a lot) but I don't think there is a deep hatred between them as many thing.
They are both happy to what they do and that is important. Great interview! Hopefully we will see more HIM member there
Glad to see Gas is still healthy and rockin' as well
This guy's so good and not for the obvious reasons, he's playing is kind of basic but he somehow fits so well, i like his playing on separate the flesh from the bones as well, solid as a rock!
Holy shit! That’s an awesome interview! Gas is one of my favourite drummers! His playing got amazing on Venus doom and screamworks
Gas always awesome. After Venus Doom, I lost track of the band entirely. I was a fan since the 90s, however, I have only had a chance of seeing them live in the farewell tour.
Unfortunately, by that time, their prime was gone, the spark had long been gone as well.
The music went into a direction that did not resonate with me, at all.
Valo's vocals also started to sound more and more strained. Glad to see all of them are doing well these days. Doing their own thing. I do have to say one thing, listening to VV solo album, you can immediately tell, whether you enjoy the music or not, that the band was so much more than Ville...
All of the band members had such a major role in making the music sound the way it did.
Wow, this was a great interview, loved the honesty and all the stories told from Mikas' side. Thank you so much for this 🙌
It was an amazing experience to chat with him, for sure.
@@TheNoirHour I've been a HIM fan since 1999, and rarely heard an interview with Mika-Gas, so this was like finally getting to know him better. Truly a present for me 🤩Great drummer, great music taste, lovely dude for sure 🙌 But to be true, every one of the HIM members are great musicians and original characters 💜
@@XarinaRavenrose I would love to speak with more of the band one day. Hopefully I can make that happen
Gas rules, glad to see he's doing great.
Thank you for mentioning Moscow!! Was very interesting to watch! Many things clarified! Greetings from Russia
This is awesome. Thank you Tyler. And thank you Gas, you are in my top 5 drummers. I started to listening HIM when I was about 17 years old. Now I am almost 40 and you are still and you will be forever in my heart. We ha(d)ve a tons of bands, but you were absolutely unique band. Greetings from Czech Republic.
Thank you so much! Gas is in my top 5 drummers too. Super unique.
I remember "Jesus Döner" being a funny song by Kyyria. I enjoyed that one.
Was always a big HIM fan and glad to see Gas again.
Greetings from Germany by the way! 👋
Greetings from the US!
Great interview thank you. Gas is an excellent drummer
Love the interview. I don't find many interviews of Gas so this is a joy to find😊
I always wondered how he played. I love the big bombastic sound
Thanks so much! I enjoyed the opportunity to speak to him. He’s awesome
Amazing interview. Thank you for this.
Thank you!
Had the pleasure to meet Gas in Athens back in 2007 during Venus Doom tour.
This interview really earned my utmost respect for him. It is quite evident there is still tension between him and Ville however he is decent and man enough to put that aside and give due respect and wish me well. Such an amazing person Mr Lipstick is! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It's good to see and listen to Gas Lipstick again, I always wonder what Mige is doing because he doesn't see himself playing in any band or project, just like Linde we are waiting for an interview with other members please guys
I’m working on that!
Mige is working as a nurse currently
@@makabeoreally?
Venus Doom was a masterpiece from first to last note.
Gas, major respect to you man and I follow your work, but if it wasn’t for Ville, you wouldn’t be on the map the way you are.
Ville is a visionary, changed my life through his work and will always respect and support him. 🤘🏻
Ville is a visionary for sure, but on his last album you can notice for sure the professionalism HIM members did to the music. The VV album is the purest example to show some people that HIM wasnt HIM only because of Ville Valo, but because of these other guys too.
@@ninodani6 Except the VV album was great? He went in a different direction with that album so obviously it's going to be different than HIM.
@@JordanC100 I dont think VV album was great to be honest. The production was great of course, Tim Palmer is a living legend, but the album technically wasnt great for me , not speaking about personal taste, but about technical things(as a musician). Anyways i respect your opinion of course!
@@ninodani6 tbh, I just feel like you're biased because you were expecting HIM and didn't get that, which led to a negative view of the album.
@@ninodani6you are aware that the whole album was engineered, recorded and composed by a single man in a “home” studio right?
Thanks for such a great interview! You asked some really good questions. I love Gas, and Im glad to hear he’s happy doing his thing with The Solitude and so many other projects. He’s been a big influence of mine as a drummer. Will definitely check out your band October Noir! Also, Woods of Ypres would be in my top 10 favorite bands! Ya got good taste in music bro!
Oh man thanks so much for the kind words! We’re on the same page with all of that! Thanks a million 🙏🏼
Well done! You have revealed something we always wanted to know.
P.S.
In Dementia Gas had played with Roope Latvala (ex-guitar player of Children of Bodom).
& there goes the mystery of how "slippery when dead" could sound both so awesome yet so freakin' weird at times. haha. great interview btw i really enjoyed it.
I could not believe he mentioned that, and I knew exactly what he was taking about. It’s great to look back on now.
Thank you! 🖤🖤
@@TheNoirHour definitely!! now that i know it's like; "ok, how could i NOT know". 😂 totally makes sense.
@@hideandpeek same here!! When he laid out the timeline on things, it made perfect sense! I’m surprised a big website hasn’t picked up this interview lol. He said so many insightful things
Slippery when dead sound So great. What do YOU mean , it does not sounded good?
@@cyanidesunana8400 first off, not sure why you care so much about my own very humble opinion but i actually said it sounded awesome, sooo... 🤷 if that's the "weird" part of my comment that's offending you, yes the fake drums on these demos does sound weird (as agreed by gas on this very interview).
great interview, thanks for sharing!
Great interview! Very interesting. Filled in some gaps. Gas is one of my favorite drummers!
Same here! Thank you 🤘🏼
"He should maybe look in the mirrow" 😢
When he said that?

❤ Dear GAS...such a beautiful human!
That part you talk about the one note where he hit the ride on play dead always had me puzzled. I always thought he mucked it up haha
Great interview! Gas is a legend.
Agreed! Thank you so much
What an amazing interview, makes you kind of nostalgic. Was obsessed with HIM for the longest time.
Nostalgia is definitely there! I’m still in love with HIM and the music now of VV
@@TheNoirHour Same here, love VV. Not HIM but different. Difficult to put my finger on what it is!
@@hellraidart the sound is sonically different from HIM. It’s all Ville Valo.
Amazing and talented drummer 🤘
Thank you for a very great interview! 🇸🇪
Thank you!
Dark Light, Screamworks, Love Metal and Venus Doom...my H.I.M. favorites.
LOVE THAT! They’re all amazing
Dark Light change my light on life when came to like love and shit I mean I was 14 when it came out so it made me feel very sentimental when it came to understanding how to love the girl I had at the time so yea. Best album front to back
So, I have a different take, and it involves the people discussing the interviews on other platforms.
It's sad to see that people are ruthless on both ends - Ville's solo project and why HIM disbanded. It's almost like those people cannot accept the fact that certain life events changed them, and the choices they make do not harm anyone, unless it's intentional. There's this unnecessary hyperfixation and hyperanalysis about why Ville is the way he is now, where all the other band members are, and all that other craziness that just gets disgusting at times, because it's more or less breaching those people's personal lives to a point where they start living through them just to discover something hidden. Why do that? There's already enough said out there, why dig for more; plus, those people need to learn that even the biggest bands in the industry out there have scandals, misunderstandings, and disagreements. It's all about compromising, and it's perfectly fine when a band disbands if they cannot compromise entirely. I couldn't be more proud of everyone's choice of path after HIM. It's pretty commendable, especially after they've been doing it for so long before it happened. I want to see them all do their thing and be happy.
You are absolutely right
Loved this interview ❤
I love you. Thank you!
Than you, GAS ❤
Great interview 👍
🤘🏼
Speaking of Burton being really quiet, there's an interview with only him, Linde and Migé. That was a really quiet interview. Interesting to see.
I’ll have to find that one! I’ve never heard him speak
@@TheNoirHour it was for BoostTV in 2010! Funny enough, he did most of the speaking 😆.
@@sjmh280491 going to search that soon! 🤘🏼 thanks for that info lol
@@TheNoirHourit’s actually funny cause I’ve met the band twice and as I didn’t want to bother Ville when he was overcrowded I talked to Burton instead. Very decent guy and indeed quite reserved and chill.
Gas 💄 lipstick o yeahhhhhhh. Good to. See you my friend, it's been a long since the last time that I saw you play with HIM and company.. ✌️✌️
Sick interview. Gas is a total dude.
Thank you for this interview with Gas, I enjoyed it very much🤘❤️
Thank you for watching. It was a dream come true to talk to Gas! Legend
@@TheNoirHour it was sad that he and Ville did not understand each other any more, but things like that happen! Gas is without doubt one of the greatest drummers I heard.
@@sabineotten8124 hopefully they’ll have their day to reconcile, for us all
@@TheNoirHour ❤️
Awesome interview. Thanks for posting🖤🖤
Thanks so much for watching!
@@TheNoirHour by day, I am a professional ballet dancer in New York City so I am forced to listen to classical music all day long, but the minute I’m done rehearsing or performing my earbuds go in and the thrash/doom metal goes on🖤🖤🖤 I also have a son who plays in several local New York City fans, and I wish that wouldn’t be so fucking amazing if you could get some tips from Gas
@@natalienee7981 I’m the drummer of October Noir. We will be in Brooklyn and Long Island in September!
It’s hard to give tips to other drummers for sure. It’s just all feeling behind the drums
You let me know where you guys are going to be playing in Brooklyn and I will definitely be there with a shit ton of my friends because me and my friends who have to listen to classical stuff all day when we’re out we’re definitely into the music they are in two and we will show you a good time in New York City
Thank you for this
Thank you!
Such an underrated musician! Gas is the man! Such a great drum sound.
Oh! This is special.
I thought so too 🙏🏼
I am finnish and I have never seen interview of Gas
@@aapo616 there are very little with just him. That’s why I was excited to speak with him
@@TheNoirHour Yes👍🏻
He is the best drummer of all time. If you don't know he has a Mario Lemieux "66" tat and has been a great friend for many friends. Reason why I have been a die hard HIM fan for 20 years
I'm a HC HIM fan, and Gus really isn't even close to the best drummer.
Wow, to say he isn’t interested in Villes new album is shocking. Considering he was with that band for so long, and ville was the main part of that. He was the mastermind, he was everything. Ville is such a down to earth human being I can’t imagine him being disrespectful in any way to gas..
There's like 10 different interviews on UA-cam where Ville calls Gas "the fat one" and keeps on joking about his weight...
@@DaniArrow so true
Unfortunately, people behind the scene can occupy a very different persona than what they put on in front of a cam. Therefore I'd stay away from judging whether someone is down to earth or ego maniac or greedy or occupies some other negative feature, just based on a tiny sample batch of a few appearances in public here and there. In general, everyone has an undesired side, it just needs the right triggers for it to manifest.
Ville is a toxic narcissist) perhaps like all creative people who are focused on their ego and do not care about the feelings of others. He himself often spoke about this in his interviews. And now after this interview with Gas I can understand it clearly. I suppose that because Ville was idolized by fans, at some point he developed a god complex who can control everything and set only his own rules. I suspect the guys were pressed a lot. It’s amazing how they even lasted 20 years 😂
you can find plenty of videos on youtube where Ville mocking Gas sometimes in very painfull way
Very cool. Love that slippery demo. Ha. I always go back to old music as well. Be cool to see Mige, Burton and it course Lily Lazer. Lioneye's music is good. But yeah, I haven't really seen stuff with Burton. Didn't they do a Xmas record or something?
Linde and Burton play with Sami Yaffa.
❤❤
I do love you Gas, but the first HIM drummer, in 1998 was amazing. Can you tell the story of why he was out, and went to To Die For ?
His gf was pregnant and he couldn't commit to HIM full-time anymore because of that.
What is the name of the band you mentioned at 55:55 please? I couldn't quite catch it. What a great interview, enjoyed listening to your chat, and thanks for sharing all these bands that you like. Can't wait to check them all out, especially Trees of Eternity and Swallow the Sun.
Woods of Ypres!
Also dive in to October Noir. There’s something for you in the music I would bet
@@TheNoirHour I’m already a fan 😊 loved your recent collaboration with Nadia 🖤
@@VL-yz8dp a million thanks! An interview with Nadia is in the future!
🤘
Thank you @The Noir Hour for introducing me to The Solitude and conducting an amazing interview 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much!
I tried to share the link but youtube keeps taking down 🙃
I actually really like Slippery When Dead, but i agree the electronic drums have no feeling/doesn’t sound no where near as good.
I love Slippery When Dead but I much prefer what became Razorblade Romance. Luckily we get to enjoy them both
15:00 Kevin Shirley
No idea what happened behind closed doors and non of my business.
I am just gutted that during HIMs last gig in Finland..everyone was there, everyone! Except gas.
Even the old drummer and juska, everyone but gas.
Felt it was like a almost complete puzzle but with one missing piece.
Thought i would get to see gas again when he teamed up with linde in flat earth.. but he left that abruptly also.
Gas is amazing drummer and I understand he is sating about trash metal drum. HE DID Him was better.
FYI Gas and Natali are no more together. She has a new man in her life and they became parents of a baby girl few months ago...
Gas dissapoints me ...I just gonna say that i love new VV Album Neon Noir and the musicians that are with Ville now are great!, i love when Ville was with Agents and i love HIM, i dont like when musicians talk about other musicians not very nicely...I will keeping supporting Ville Valo forever.
I support Valo 100% as well. He’s my guy. And I love everything he’s done. Seeing him twice this year. Gas was just honest about their past. We’ll never know exactly what happened.
Same
But Ville many times said bad things of Gas "fat one", "ugly"...and? Gas can't Talk? Its his opinion. Period. And I don't know how pass behind scene.
@@rociogodinomegia3125 or even the time at one of their shows Ville hocked a nasty loogie onto Gas' drum shield. I'm sure anyone would deem that as disrespectful if it happened to them. I love Ville's work, but that don't mean I'd be a fan of him in a personal setting ( i think a lot of him fans blur the line in that regard. They are too defensive of a man they don't even know)
@Rocio Godino Megia I love Ville but stories I heard of him being mean to Gas isn't cool 😢 I wondered why Ville said Gas can't talk, now I hear the accent (Gas is Swedish, maybe that's why because of his accent?)
I also heard Ville is notorious for being awful maybe while drinking, even Ville admits that he himself is a miserable bastard.
Not to anti-toot my own horn, but some years ago I tried to prove something by having this shitty attitude to Gas. He's a really "feet on the ground" dude. I guess this is a bit of an indirect apology.
Great interview.
Damn how many times he was yawning, so rude to the interviewer.
I doubt thats an intentional thing on Gas's part. He might be tired or something. Hes always seemed like an awesome dude. Who knows!
@@LickeyWebster yeah but the nice thing to do is to apologise at least once for that yawning, because people may think you are bored or uninterested… also the chewing of snus… could have been done after the interview..
I wasn’t offended by Gas at all. He uses tobacco and that’s no issue for me. Also for context, I’m in the states and Gas is 8 hours ahead in Finland, so it was late night for him.
@@TheNoirHour I’m glad you didn’t take offence. Nice job btw 👍
Thank you so much! It was a joy for me.
Has anyone ever told you that you sound exactly like Danny McBride? Damn near identical!
Who is that? 👀
He's an actor! He was in Pineapple Express, Your Highness, 30 Mins or Less, This Is The End, etc. 🙂
@@kristaboo14 oh! Not sure if that’s a compliment or not 😂
It is! To me at least, I like him 🤷🏻♀️😂
@@kristaboo14 that works for me then lol thank you! Listen to October Noir 🫡
My respect for H.I.M. has gone through the roof because of their hate of The Beatles. The most over rated crap in the world 🙂
Damn, Gas Lipstick really hates letting people talk, that was hard to watch.
He seems a bit bitter? Maybe it’s just charisma he’s lacking. Ville oozes charisma and charm and brooding sexuality. Sigh…
You should interview all the members
I’d love to. I’m working on something like that
