WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.

Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know. - Навчання та стиль

Awesome video and finished point. Glad you're feeling better Patrick.
Very nice point Gene Gorringe Mi ✌️🇺🇲❄️
Thanks, Gene
Good on you! Sleep is magical medicine. I had the crud until I slept for several days and took hot baths. Glad to have you back and healthy.
😁👍
Two things for me. First, the edge work. Second, the prep you did to go after the problem that was bugging you. I got a lot from those two things. Thanks for the continued videos and glad your feeling better.
Thanks for the feedback, Ray. It helps me know what to focus on.
Love it! Glad you're feeling better too. I like seeing these videos where you end up using something that others might pass on, and then you make a neat point out of it. Overall, these small, more delicate points do seem harder to make correctly. I'm not a fumble-fingers, but doing the smaller points like this one, without snapping it at some point (no pun intended), is still something I need to work on.
One of the things that I enjoy most about your videos is when you have a point thinner than I could get it and say, "I think I'm going to thin this down a little more."
Right!! I’m Right there with you. Patrick does a lot of those nonchalant flexes 💪🤣 the crazy thing is he is being serious and doesn’t even realize he is doing it. On a serious note that truly speaks of how talented and skilled he really is. He holds him self to an extremely high standard and rightfully so. He knows what he can achieve and what he wants and he knows exactly how to do it. His knapping skills blow my mind🤯lol. If you ever get a chance to get ahold of one of his finished points you will see just how great they really are. They look good in the videos but it really puts it in perspective when you see them in person.
@@austinlong7700 Indeed, I have a couple of blades by the Maestro and if you hold them together or tap on either it sounds like a fine musical instrument.

Great job Jack love it man you got more patent then me thanks
That wasn't the hospital helicopter, it was the go'ment spying on you.
Very nice point sir. I'm gonna say at least 90% of my artifacts are a symmetrical. Don't sweat the small stuff.
True
Glad you're feeling better, there's been a rash of respiratory viruses in Ohio, always have with you a way to have shelter, fire, water, signal devices, myself depending on seasons,shelter-large trash bag bound with cordage,fire-bick lighter, storm proofs matches,water-press filtered bottle,signal-phone,whistle this is minimal

Glad you’re feeling better! Hope you get back to normal soon! I went through this exact same thing about 3 weeks ago and ended up getting a sinus infection a few days ago as a result from what ever I had. It sounds almost exactly like the same thing you had. Hope you back to 100% soon!
25:08 this is the same issues I have when making dart points and arrow heads. I can’t get the flakes to travel halfway so I go more narrow until I end up with a point that is narrower and still thicker than what I was hoping for. The flakes scale them selves to the biface I’m working for example, i can remove flakes that are bigger than a whole arrow head on a large biface but when working on a small point it gets harder for me to drive flakes the length I need them to go while using the same tool. I know it has to be because of the platforms. The smaller the point the smaller and weaker the platform is. For me there is a very fine line between the right platform to get the desired flake to thin a small biface and to stout of a platform causing me to break the point. I have a hard time getting it just right. It’s harder for me to make arrow heads than anything else. The medium sized styles seem to be easiest for me. 4 inches long seems to be my cut off I can’t get longer points than that because I break them in half. and same goes for the small points. I might get 1 ok arrow head for every 4-5 that I break.
Good to know your struggles. It helps me to stay alert to those problems and then try to explain the solutions.
@@KnapperJackCrafty will rawhide string hold 100lb bow? 3 plys?
@tonymaurice4157 To be safe, you multiply the draw weight by 5 to find the strength required for the string. So, for a 100lb bow, each strand of a 3-ply string must have a 170lb breaking strength (170x3=510lb). This is certainly possible, but the resulting string would look more like a rope and not a string narrow enough to fit in the nock of an arrow from the time period the original 100lb bows were used.
@KnapperJackCrafty so sinew is safer? I think hadza use rawhide to for heavy bows.. But i'm not sure how they do this. Like you said thickness would be a problem.. Also,. linen strings i've seen we're very thick.
Thanks for the reply 👍
The counterfitter already have faking methods and treatments plus buyers who are blinded by there own greed and biases.
Yes, I know, but I've seen them get better over the years. I don't want them watching my channel.
Wes Studi, nacho slayer
😂
Honestly I wouldn’t mind if you did like mini series where you only did one thing for several videos in a sequence. Like did 3-4 videos or even more for me personally just trying to appeal to the whole audience. Anyways doing like 3-4 videos on small points from flakes then you could do a couple on symmetry and notching then do knives or something you get the picture. That way we could see you work through different issues and problems and if you gave minor brief explanations on the situation. Everyone is at a different place in thier flint knapping journey and I think this could be helpful and entertaining.
Yes. Good idea
Are there any points you have made, that are framed up or that you hang on too?
Not any more. I got rid of 99% of what I've made.
@@KnapperJackCrafty it would be bad ass if you made a series or like a collection oriented auction.
