I am 14 years old and I am always one of the youngest fans at the track and it's sad to see that there aren't more young kids that like the sport
Yes yes yes, NASCAR races always started at 1:00pm, go back to the olden days
I'm a 53 year old that's been around dirt racing for 40 years...
Sadly I'm not a late nighter like I used to be.
Yes we definitely need to find a way to get the next generation of dirt racers coming and staying in the sport.
Jughead seems like a nice guy
I agree with Jughead. It's way past my bedtime.
Amazing, Jughead looks so much healthier in his face. WOW !!!
Some of the tracks need to cut back on divisions run. Three or four divisions is enough with a start time of 6:30pm works pretty well, done usually about 10pm.
That’s my opinion.
I would think it would have the opposite effect earlier. Start times means more time in the heat and I would take late nights over the heat
Agree completely. My closest track is an hour away and they run 9-10 classes every week. Too long a night for me anymore.
also, in our case the track ( Lincoln IL) is in the middle of town. but we love the racing and appreciate all of you racer's
We would love to be done early on Friday night racing but people don't get there until 7:30 . Cut hot laps to green, white and checkered
PREACH IT!!!!! Last weekend at Santa Maria we were done at 11:30..........problem is, I have a 3hr drive ahead of me.....I am not hanging around to BS with fans........sorry, not their fault.
At Shadybowl and Eldora and Limaland and Waynesfield we see alot maybe 60% young fans and families. Heck at Shadybowl its 1a.m. when we get done and the place gets 4,000 people and 110 cars in 4 classes a night.
We need more matinnees for racing and rock shows!
Bad thing is...we old folks have jobs, so if you start earlier, we might not be able to leave work, or we'll have to take vacation to go
I went to Florence Speedway the weekend of the spring Darlington race. My wife and I left before the last race, because it didn't start until 11pm.
Hey Look! It’s Jughead and Knucklehead again.
LOVE YOU KENNY!
❤
Herm, 1st....you're almost at 100k!!!!! Gonna get a play button. 10pm is good to end, and that pacific time, no east coast BS, dont play that game. But hey, love ya
930 pm...Agreed! (I'm 37....lol)
Are you going for that Don King look?
If you lose the younger crowd,(stands and pits) you lose racing!!!! I grew up on dirt track racing and I pit crewed on dirt modifieds( sportsman) , championship team, Fonda speeedway , Afton speedway, small block mods. this connects me to all forms of racing racing. How do we encourage the young people to get involved in the sport? I’m 63. No longer involved, but I follow the dirt circuit. Mandy paunch , Billie Pauch, Fonda Speedway, Tanner Holmes , Hunt the front. I know that dirt track racing is the blood and bones of all racing. It truly saddens me to see the way people look at the local racers. They are the true heroes of our sport. I hope you actually see this comment!!! Actually a true fan of the Wallace Brothers. A fan from mid NY
all my local tracks usually hot lap at 7 we usually don't leave until midnight
I go to bed at 9 on a regular night lol I haven't been able to stay or even watch a full night of racing on stream in years lol
I always love dirt track racing ever since I was 4 and I'm 47 now and always go watch dirt racing
I was going to say not true Kenny then I remembered I'm in my 50s😢
I am close to 60 and will be watching at home from Kentucky and like to go to bed better sooner than later but it is much more important to do what is best for the racers, track workers and fans in the stands... Be safe everyone
I fit into the Boomer generation. For a gazillion years, I worked in a business that required me to work Saturdays more often than not. About 10 years ago, I was at Devils Bowl and was talking to a friend of Lanny's who was a promoter at a Texas track. Growing up, I didn't mind staying at a track until midnight. One thing you didn't want was to leave the track at 10:00 and have nothing to do. We used to designate the rural tracks and smaller town tracks as country style racing. It was explained to me entirely differently by the promoter. He said that every track must decide if they are going to make money through the front gate or the back gate. You either can pack the stands or you can pack the pits, but it never works when you try and do both. I don't think it is because of my age as much as what I enjoy watching. I am a sprint car/dirt late model guy and nothing else. No disrespect to anyone, but I didn't pay my hard earned money and drive for over an hour to watch companion classes. If you have a big money class, that is what the extra people came to see. Most probably came from out of town. There probably aren't even any hotels or motels near your track anyway. If you expect them to come back, at the very least, do not run the main attraction last. The people that came to watch the companion classes will stay. Don't make a sprint car guy watch street stocks, mini stocks, limited late models, modifieds, bombers and whatever else you can find to fill the program. I think there are a lot of reasons for not having younger fans and it starts with the parents. Children of race fans are more apt to be fans. These kids today are not brought up in a car culture. The trend is EV's and even self driving cars. We are villainized for poluting the planet. You ask kids what is cool today and it probably won't be sprint car racing or even nascar. It will be a video game or drifting, but it probably won't be the answer you hope for.
930pm is past my bedtime.
Hey Wallace, you getting some grits at Cracker Barrel?
In our situation starting time at the track is 7:30 but where we live 30 minutes north it’s 8:30 makes for a late night.
Not sure I see that everywhere. In the eastern PA/NJ area, I see a lot of people 20-40. I'm 37 myself and see plenty around my age. Several families bring their kids. When I was recently at Carolina Speedway it was a TON of 20 somethings there. So maybe it's a geographical issue
I agree Kenny
Change it for 2 weeks, count your money, make a decision.
I see the same thing, Kenny I have been in racing as long as your family, and my kids race now, and my grandkids enough of it, and I think if you were raised in the sport like we have been you have a better chance they will carry it on. Now about the time to start the night our track night starts at 6 until it gets hot then back to 7:30 when this heat gets out of control, but I do like getting done by 9 every night so we can all head to the house and party the rest of the night. That's my take on it. One more thing a lot of people now can watch at home with all the social media platforms that cove almost all that's out there.
I'm 37 and haven't a fan for life, what time they end doesn't bother me but when some tracks have a 10 p.m curfew and can't finish the event because they started over an hour late (supposed to start at 6) that's ridiculous. Also my kids 10 and 4 love going to the track. Lots of other kids at all the tracks too, Wisconsin seems to be doing better than a lot of southern states though...
Home track at Spoon we're one of the youngest and newest racers. Tucker's the same age as Brandon Bollinger, both 21. I still stand by my thinking it's a lack of boots on the ground promoting. It surprises me that old and young people within the last year when asked where we're racing at and we say Spoon River speedway.... I didn't know Spoon River was still open!? Yes social media is important but you have to go where the kids are too. And maybe do something besides relying on teams to share a Facebook flyer post that's going to be seen by the same 200 people. But it's so much easier to blame streaming and social media than it is to work at getting people to the track.
im 34 on Saturdays in east tn we have about 3 different things most people do. You ether go fourwheeling, go to the lake or go to the races I was at smoky mountain last weekend for the lucas oil race an there wasn't many old people it was kids all the way to 50ish. one of my local tracks wartburg speedway young people tailgate in teir parking grill out drink etc there all young. honestly it's one of the only 3 main things people do around here.
I am 60 now, if it comes on at 9 at night I am already starting to nod off.
You should truly look at Taylor Kuehl if you love dirt track racing sir😊
#36!, Herman you got to understand most of all of your younger fans work till 5 pm. We have kids and need more time sir. Peace
Kenny you and Jug head are young !!!!!!!!
and the early ending time is from the complaining nambers !!!!!!
Dirt tracks don’t need 5 support classes when running Supers.
Just like a polka dance need to start a 5 and be done at 9.
Rusty should be happy his trailer is insured and it doesn’t cot him anything😅
My son calls me an my brother (65&62) his disability crew.😂🤣
I predict Christopher Bell will sweep the weekend at New Hampshire motor speedway both xfinity and cup races
RIP
I can see it now…
The Blue Hair 500
C’mon out for chicken and waffles and watch High Riding Herm tear up the track!!
4:30 start time
Sponsored by Geritol and Ben Gay😂😂😂😂😂
Racing is a “sport” that your father gets you into, more of a lifestyle than the stick and ball sports. As the generations go by from Gen x forward it’s just not something as popular as it once was. Reason being the younger generations sit inside too much. Ya you’ve got the minority that sim race and make it big, Byron with Hendrick but that’s not the norm. And dad today can’t afford groceries let alone a f250 truck, trailer, race car and maintain it.
I don’t think it’s that kids aren’t interested. It’s that their millennial and gen z parents don’t take their kids to the races and would rather sit at home binge watching Netflix or something so they aren’t exposed to it. Almost every little boy would be interested in racing if he saw it live in person.
When I was a kid I kinda watch nascar as a kid in the mid 80s ie was ok but after 10 laps it’s like 🥱 how boring. That all changed when we started going to sone dirt races when I was maybe 12 or so. I was like wow 😮 this is fantastic I want to race cars too! In high school I raced a go kart for a couple years but we just didn’t have the financial means to go beyond go carts because it’s expensive, even go cart racing is expensive and mostly self funded 🥴. My younger brother was the mechanic. He’s still involved in racing and is a late model stock car crew chief.
It’s not just racing. It’s other events like music concerts. I got to a lot of rock concerts and you see a few young parents with some kids but for the most part when I look around the vast majority of us are 40+ and average age of probably 50. Parents don’t take their kids places like games, races or concerts to entertain them any more. They just band them an iPad and say go have fun
Dirt racing in daytime is stupid.
I had to watch a Biden/Harris commercial before I could watch your video. You should demand that youtube not put political ads with your videos. They will never add voters that way and only take away from people watching youtube. You being the provider should be able to decide what ads you allow.
Kenny that's because your model cars go slooooowww around the track.....slow enough the older fans can turn their head just fast enough to watch you go around 😁🤣
If it wasn't for the baby boomers money this country would be screwed
Bullshit
