I found you because i realize somatic exercises are so helpful for PTSD, grief, chronic pain... It really helps me regulate my nervous system.....Thank you so much!!! I realize just how disconnected from my body i have become.....Before husband passed, i was regularly doing yoga and stretching and somatic exercises....I got away from some modalities which helped. It feels so good to get to feeling better again, emotionally, physically, spiritually.
I did the first self hold on my brain stem & neck I sensed some anxious sensation in my solar plexus. I often experience pressury pain in my neck, shoulders & in the brain stem area.
I cry a lot, but I’ve had so much chronic stress, I feel really numb but scared and angry. Sometimes crying can stimulate my nervous system but I want to cry but cant. Is this weird. Thank you for these videos ❤
Thanks for sharing. That’s not weird at all. Sometimes our body just feels the impulse to cry without the release of tears. This may be because your body needs more safety or softening before the emotion gets expressed outwardly.
One time, this exercise brought me to tears. But this time, my body start to react weird. When I put my hand in the back of the neck, I started to feel a bit dizzy. But I keep hold it until it subside and I feel my hand as the anchor and supporting the neck. The similar thing happen when I hold my back (the adrenal gland), I started to get a bit nauseous. Keep holding it until its subside. I wonder why this is happen?
Hmm, not 100% sure, but from an SE perspective I will share that often when we first sense into the body/organs, sometimes we feel whatever has been "held" there that we have been overriding/not feeling. So at first there may be discomfort/activation. Then, as you noticed, things may eventually calm or settle after you support that area with calm presence.
Thanks so much for this! I did find it settling. I just wanted to ask, is there any ideal time to use this? Should I make it a habit of doing it daily? Can using it too often be too much?
Hi @anthonyiuculano6002. Thanks for your feedback! That's a great question. These exercises may have a different effect on everyone, and also may feel differently every time you do them. So, I'd say, just explore and play! See what the right amount/right timing is for you. There is really no "wrong" time to check in with your body or use your own hands to self-soothe :)
I had a lot of emotional release - crying, with this exercise. Thank you.

Sometimes that can happen. It’s not always safe or comfortable for everyone to bring their hands onto their bodies. That’s ok.
