I do like Goliath, and think it is somewhat underrated, but man I can agree that this ship has a lot of weaknesses that it’s strengths don’t really make up for. The AP is a bit punchier than most people give it credit for, but 70-80% of the time you’re playing mini-Conq and throwing HE to set fires and move on. Sort of like Venezia but with DOT instead of stupidly huge alpha.
I mean, spamming HE is fine. Citadel damage would obv be nice when you can get it, but the HE is pretty punchy, and with fires, you can really wittle ships down.
The ship is really a mini Conqueror. I love both. For Goliath being a big ship her rudder shift at range is great and I can dodge most incoming shells. I like the open water game play and she does good job of it. Plus you can punish all ship types, HE is that filthy.
I find I need to go full psychic on this ship when kiting. Letting two BB's focus on me while kiting gets rough. I usually try to start a fire or two and then use my "spidey" sense to know when to go dark and move away. It may have a good heal but it's still a British cruiser. I have my highest ever score in this ship but it was a bit of a fluke. This ship can be fun but it's an awkward maternal fornicator to play for the most part. I really enjoy this format and your videos as a whole are always well done. Thank you.
I also love how PQ doesn't think it's normal for a CV to focus you an entire game. I've actually started running the AA mod on the Goliath because CVs just love me and will literally ignore every other ship for the entire game until one of us is dead. To the point that they will fly from the opposite side of the map just to get me.
@@Swarm509 rate at the beginning of the game. It's almost like the CV bee-lines in my direction no matter where I am and then even if I'm slaughtering his planes, he keeps coming.
The Goliath is a very scary ship, especially in late game. If have your half health and 1 heal left in late game, you can pretty much sail into anyone and kill them.
I really like Goliath. It's one of the ships I tend to do best in. I love the playstyle, including the long reload for some reason. It is actually a very relaxing ship to play.
The line is fabulous as an independent kiting ship on the non push flank in competitive. Albemarle is great currently with the long enough reload to turn away between shots.
I'd love to see a Satisfactory Vid, I think you've proved yourself on this game and i can tell the way it's going it's pissing you off a bit at the mo. Been playing satisfactory myself a bit recently. would love to see your designs for your factorys. Love the Vids
The ship is very tanky against anything except guns that overmatch 30mm. In that case you don't angle at all and let the shells bounce of the deck armour. Works well at medium and long range. Bit like shooting tier 10 cvs
It has the same problem as Napoli, it suffers being hit in the rear. I believe that is where you got most of your damage. I used Napoli as an example since it is a tank of a ship... in my opinion.
you can really hear the disappointment and severe dislike for subs and CVs in the start of the video and i completely agree with it. they absolutely ruin the game
So with subs there really isn't much that can be done. But you can maximise your depth charges by using the second set kinda like a reload booster on a French ship, not to set the DOTs/incapacitations but to make them stick. Use one set, set your fires or floods, wait a few seconds and drop the next set. It's not going to kill them, but it's going to set fires/floods/break stuff and the delay of waiting for the first strike to hit then a few more +the 15 seconds of drop time makes them permanent. The real reason you want to do it this way is for the permanent fuel leak, allowing for easier spotting and further drops. Edit-fixing words
@Potato Quality You are WRONG about this ship, it is extremely tanky under one situation only: lack of 457 caliber guns. if ANY ship with that type of guns look at you, they can overmatch you from any angle and any distance, also the rear end of the underarmor of Goliath is straight plating with no angle asking to be citadel a good yamato player will know that. another weakness of this ship like any royal navy ship is the weakness to HE spam. Has a conclusion: Ship has great guns, act has a mini conqueror but the driver have to be aware of his weakness and strenght and act on opportunities to utilize her amazing toolkit.
I really like the Goliath, but I've noticed that I'm not getting the massive chunk damage that I used to get (12-16k) So when PQ got 8K with his front guns I was rather surprised. I've also found that the Goliath does not bounce battleship rounds unless you get lucky. And pretty much all AP will Citadel you doesn't matter from what range. That being said, I find the Goliath extremely effective at removing camping cruisers. I just play assuming I'm going to take damage and rely on my massive heel to make up for it. If it wasn't for the fact that I get focused very heavily, I would run the lighthouse build with full rudder shift. That puts you at a 3 and 1/2 second rudder shift which is insane
I do like Goliath, I think it's a well designed cruiser, its HE is excellent, it's agile and works well as you keep saying - broadsides (even slightly) bet heavily punished but well angled it can be very tanky. Combined with the rapid rudder shift, poor angles and turning circle this makes it a skill based duel in terms of dealing with the incoming fire. Crossfires are obviously lethal but kiting it can take down pretty much anything (although it's not fast enough to escape usually). The AP and torps can be really nasty for players that get themselves vulnerable and aren't expecting it but it generally doesn't survive very long close in in my experience.
There is a step in the citadel which means if bbs actually hit you through the back there's a chance they can citadel you, as you said tanky until it isnt.
The British heavy cruisers are interesting, given they're comparable to the IJN heavy cruisers (roughly). But the armour is so feast or famine... more so than the IJN ships of each respective tier, in my experience! Thin noses, ship architecture that's high out of the water and it also doesn't help with how exposed and large the RN heavy cruisers citadels are, particularly the Albermarle. All this for extra large guns and good HE, along with British heals, neither of which make the grind anything other than abusive...
I tried to go up this ship and couldn't take the grind through the line, just a horrible experience. I got to the Drake before moving onto something else. That being said fighting the Goliath has shown me that it can be very strong as a kiting cruiser, and has gotten me killed trying to take them out before. Also been finding Random Battles in this game to just be bad. I tend to stick with brawls, ranked, or coop modes to have fun. Was running Randoms last night and it was constant subs, CV's, and stacked divisions. I ran into so many CV/DD divisions that would just wreck the players. Just wasn't that much fun even if I did well in the games.
You're not always gonna be top of leader board and you also die more in the Goliath, but those HE fires make bbs turn tail & dds don't risk being spotted preventing a push which can change match outcomes .
The only thing I can say is that you were caught in a crossfire vs the Kremlin, Yammy and Stalingrad. And they got some really good luck with hitting the upper belt instead of the deck. I can attest to living a LONG time in the Goliath when I shouldn't. But you can also get bad RNG and randomly explode due to how big she is and that stepped citadel.
20k health lost at just under 2 minutes into the game. That's more than a third of your total. What exactly did you do incorrectly? Well, I suppose you were sort of alone up front in the middle. What FANTASTIC game design, WG. Really encourages people to advance, doesn't it? This battle features all the reasons I'd never bother returning to play it: CVs, subs and 'no brain required' HE spam being the top three.
I only just got Albemarle recently, and to be honest I hate it right now. A super heal is only useful if you take non-fatal damage, and this thing eats citadels, regardless of angle, from seemingy everything that shoots at me. The stepped citadel just means you catch shells when angled that overmatch (Which is like all BBs at it's tier). The flat stern means you can't just be fully turned away since anything else will just go straight through to the citadel as well. Being flat broadside won't work since it's too thick to just get overpens. Being bow in at least helps against cruiser's AP but being 25 mm just means their HE eats you and BBs can still mess your shit up just the same as stern-in. It doesn't have the range, maneuverability or gun angles to open water, but I find it's firing arcs are suited to almost no islands you come across because it just can't shoot far enough to be high enough. You do get a spotter plane, but for what? 5-6 salvos? It's concealment is alriiiiiiight, but not amazing and it's low reload gives it one of the worst DPMs at it's tier. 34mm HE pen means you can mess up cruisers, that is, if they are even in range, and BB bow/sterns, sure, but even this only pens around half BB decks. The fire chance has a high percent chance, but it's low reload and low shell count actually puts it in the lower half of tier 8 cruisers for fires per minute. Well that was a rant and a half, but I truly hate this ship right now. Even the games where I do "well", i.e. high on the leaderboard, or decent damage, just feel awful to play.
i got goliath ages ago, but i still remember the albermarle being proly the most hellish grind ever. if you can u should just free xp to the next tier. i do like the goliath tho as its he is godlike. so its worth it imo. although i will add its biggest weakness is its worthless against dds. its long reload and poor velocity make hitting them damn near impossible, not ideal for a cruiser so if thats a dealbreaker for you ya should give up on this line.
I switched between range and reload a few times and I find myself wanting the range in more situations than the faster reload. There are tons of camping BBs to hit in the backfield. To each their own though.
I havent been playing WOWS at ALL in the last 6+ months. I fell in LOVE with the Game Control, I stlll have RDR2 to play and Metro Exodus Enhanced (I got dat 3080 Ti) - and a TON MORE! WOWS 2024 might be the year of the ghost servers,. I USED to play WOWS religiously, and from 2015 to around 2018 I was trying to get ALL my friends to play. Then CV Rework happened, and second commander rework, Smolensk, Kremlin (used to be MEGA OP, now just soviet BS OP), and MvR, and FDR, finally 431+ mm gun overmatch powercreep, now NONE of my current Cruisers other than Atago can avoid deck citadels, and so on and so forth. All while my once FAVORITE Zao just sits and rusts into irrelevance - there is no ONE thing Zao does better than ANY other T10 cruiser, in fact it is VERY lacking in MOST ways compared to the rest! FFS WG - Give her better gun firing angles and a BASE 18- of 33 seconds or less, and no more HP, instead give her a 41mm Atago deck. But WG WILL NEVER FIX OLD SHIPS TO BE META AGAIN! Because creating a problem and selling the solution by way of early access and FXPing new lines is, until players like me quit ( I spent well over $1000 before I quit) - the most IMMEDIATELY profitable solution. Of course that is so short and narrow sighted. Make Zao Great Again and NEW players will be interested in this old ship that is meta for Randoms at least again, But NOPE get new ships scrub or u cant compete!!
I just want to know what happened to your main guns locking in place when using the ASW airstrikes.... WG said that feature was going to be implemented a patch or 2 ago and its not.
I enjoy playing Goliath. Not my favorite but I enjoy her. Yeah she was popular in comp few years ago but since Napoli exist you don't see Goliath. Napoli is tougher than Goliath and you can either push in or kite away. Something that you forgot to mention with Goliath though is that she has UK torps which is always good
When attacking a sub I try and go for his broadside, he can't shoot torps if he is broadside to you. Also wait until he has launched his torps at another target then move in. That's how I do it. I get him most of the time.
You could call Gouden Leeuw with the english translation if you prefer. I know Dutch is a pretty hard language. And Golden Lion is easier to say if you don't speak Dutch
Bro I thought of grinding this line but the reload is god awfully long minotaur line has short fuse and some other better characteristics such as good reload I prefer that line and am on Edinburgh
Well, I've found that no matter how bad your AP is, it's still worth trying to cit a Mino with it. Ibubi, even Seattle can just dumpster Mino with AP and any other UK CL, I've even deleted a Mino approaching me around an island with Flint, it was close range, but still very hilarious.
I know this is a WoWS channel but if you are having fun with another game like Satisfactory I would love to see videos of that. I was actually looking at the game as well but didn't end up getting it, too many other games I have to play first. Rather see you play games you enjoy, and may give you a break from all that WoWS.
Satisfactory is a good game, tho I personally can't get over the power system. I am too used to Factorio's system. Like with no limit on the power pole connections or power in general being mostly a non-factor. (Until Laser turrets xD) I get why Coffee Stain did it in the way they did, they have a different concept of what Satisfactory is going to do, and inside of the game the power system fits really well. When Satisfactory is closing in on 1.0 and maybe a steam workshop exists I gonna try the game again. But for now my factory only grows in Factorio.
Yeah, I was surprised when you said Goliath was tanky! :D Try making a training room with 10 Goliaths, and take shots at it with a 406mm gun-battleship. There is no way you DONT citadel it!
Goliath is a very good cruiser its tough its guns hit hard its reload is just meh its a good ship its just not anything special the mino for instance has its own playstyle and is very fragile but a good mino captain can have a huge impact
Minotaur is the most useless ship in random battles. I absolutely love it and its one of my favorite ships, but its nearly impossible to be useful without playing passive. The ship really needs a buff in armor or hp.
This is a ship I cannot get a handle on. I was pretty good in Drake (57%) but Goliath is hit and miss, and when it does go well I don't see what I did right. I wanna like the ship but we don't really get along. It got better when I started playing with range mod, but it's still not great.
I play it mostly in ranked and works well for me. My first match in Goliath (in randoms) was a 190k damage game. Love the HE, but I can understandable that it might seem like a weird ship
@@sameerkharade7750 Oh I'm not saying it's the ship. Everything about it seems fine. I just cannot get it to work like I can most T10 cruisers. I'm pretty sure it's me. 😄
Both are fast shells, Marseille does a fraction more damage, there's no difference in overmatch but Stalingrad's accuracy, advanced pen angles and krupp make her waaay more deadly.
@@waverleyjournalise5757 Actually no youtuber posted anything about this, just want to understand if by owning Marseille i still shoud get steel for Staliniumgrad.
@@sardaukerlegion Well, they play very differently so there's still that. Both are good picks for ranked, though Marseille is more forgiving due to her armour.
It could use smoke if not radar I think smoke is more suited to it's slow gameplay radar won't help it really because of the long reload maybe crawling smoke or that Italian smoke might be good for it to be able to get out of bad situations and utilize it's superheals well
I think the same however RNG focked you too....but thats cruiser life. One thing about Goliath is that stepped citadel can catch overmatch shells that might normally bounce off the citadel roof. If you give a little more angle to the yammy then you effectively reduce the size of the step for him to catch.
I got the Goliath a few days ago and I hate it. It is boring ship. The bad arcs combined with long reload and poor armor makes it is a very boring experience. In fact, after Surrey, which I quite liked, everything else was boring and painful to play.
Great video as always PQ. Goliath is one of my favourite ships but it does not handle sustained battleship fire well. Also, to be fair, you weren't that far away from the Yamato when he was shooting you... looks like around 16 km and the last salvo struck your flat 25 mm aft end plating. It does excel at stopping cruisers and it shits on Stalingrad lol which is reason enough to play it. I take reload mod and play the ship quite aggressively against cruisers because of the super heal. Just don't show any side. Also, when I play I typically like to support the weakest flank and the Goliath, as you say, is perfect for holding a flank and doing shit tons of damage while kiting.
I still cannot believe the reload hasnt ever been buffed I mean look at the henry also big guns and long range and 13 sec reload, I think Goliaths reload should be around the 14 to 15 sec mark.
Henry can't pen 50mm (GK, Hannover RU super cruiser) without IFHE and has no way of penning 57mm (yamato, satsuma) and doesn't get a super heal. Goliath pays for its higher effective DPM and survivability with lower theoretical DPM.
For f2ps it's pretty bad and for not so skilled players and even for skilled players it's just an awkward farmer in comparison to which the likes of hinden and Henry lines are much better
I dunno, even if it is a good ship overall, it doesn't seem particularly inspiring or interesting in any way. It's so slow do to everything and brings very little utility beyond 'not dying'. Even Zao has the accuracy, speed and stealth to work with.
Zao is much better in those things thing ship line needs the Italian smokes or crawling smoke or smoke of any sort to help in bad situations if not then it does need a bit better reload
You are complaining about being focused, do you ever think about you doing to exact same thing on an apparent noob that you mercilessly slaughter? Whining is unbecoming for someone of your skill levels!

I love the British heavy line more fun than the light cruisers with all ap lol
Bro I thought of grinding this line but the reload is god awfully long minotaur line has short fuse and some other better characteristics such as good reload I prefer that line and am on Edinburgh
Well, I've found that no matter how bad your AP is, it's still worth trying to cit a Mino with it. Ibubi, even Seattle can just dumpster Mino with AP and any other UK CL, I've even deleted a Mino approaching me around an island with Flint, it was close range, but still very hilarious.
Have you done any tests on the Missouri economy since the rework? I played a few times with full flags and the money just didn't seem to be there.
Goliath's guns are easily broken by a DM when it's bow-in in my experience.
dm being dm as usual
Have you done a one take for the Zao?
i would absolutely love to see you play satisfactory!
I actualy dont have goliath, b7t I do have venezia. I thini they are the same nature of ships
Well in terms of reload yeh u are right
Gotta get some attention to the war in the chat, those guys need to step away for a bit
satisfactory! have you tried factorio?
It is the same way we all feel about carriers and subs. As soon as you get a game with a CV and 2 subs, its just rubbish.
(Until Laser turrets xD)
I get why Coffee Stain did it in the way they did, they have a different concept of what Satisfactory is going to do, and inside of the game the power system fits really well.
When Satisfactory is closing in on 1.0 and maybe a steam workshop exists I gonna try the game again. But for now my factory only grows in Factorio.
dont understand...
Yeah, I was surprised when you said Goliath was tanky! :D Try making a training room with 10 Goliaths, and take shots at it with a 406mm gun-battleship. There is no way you DONT citadel it!
Lol you citadel all cruisers with 406 guns bright one ! That does not mean it's not tanky which it is very tanky.
Goliath is my first tier 10
i tried angling + slowing but that won't work when the enemy is shooting from the back because of that 25mm
With Goliath one have false opinion of him because his name gives the vibes of something strong.....
We've got this match, going to burn Kremlin down, not much they can do, Goliath is tanky...
26:00 happens
Yeah eff this ship....
It can develop strike subs and DDs with he
Hinderberg is more exciting, but tbh I can’t think of a better defensive ship. Especially in this new meta where everyone is passive.
HE is definitely where the money is at but given the right circumstances the AP is equally viable.
Goliath has short-fuse AP correct?
In a dd, I deal with subs by coming at them from the side never frontal
I checked your discord. There are no channels.
Hey bro can you make another video on brandenberg?
Finished the Drake but never took Goliath. Those shells simply are too slow.
Can you do a video comparing Stalingrad's 305 vs Marseille's 330 guns?
Both are fast shells, Marseille does a fraction more damage, there's no difference in overmatch but Stalingrad's accuracy, advanced pen angles and krupp make her waaay more deadly.
@@waverleyjournalise5757 Actually no youtuber posted anything about this, just want to understand if by owning Marseille i still shoud get steel for Staliniumgrad.
@@sardaukerlegion Well, they play very differently so there's still that. Both are good picks for ranked, though Marseille is more forgiving due to her armour.
I still don't understand why this line doesn't get radar when all the other radar cruiser nations have it on both heavy and light.
It could use smoke if not radar I think smoke is more suited to it's slow gameplay radar won't help it really because of the long reload maybe crawling smoke or that Italian smoke might be good for it to be able to get out of bad situations and utilize it's superheals well
The back is really weak on her
One take Scharny?
You were just kiting too slowly at the end there, i think. Left you as an easy target for Yama
I think the same however RNG focked you too....but thats cruiser life. One thing about Goliath is that stepped citadel can catch overmatch shells that might normally bounce off the citadel roof. If you give a little more angle to the yammy then you effectively reduce the size of the step for him to catch.
Start a Satisfactory channel! I need more building design ideas!
It doesn't feel like a 1 take when the video starts almost 2 minutes in....
@@ImaSpacePotato I get that I just feel its a little high on reload time, why I play hindi more as it gets the pen and a 8 sec reload
@@BasJon Hindi has no superheal, no 16mm overmatch and cannot pen Yamatos deck. Cant have all the nice things.
playing satisfactory instead of this game? understandable
at the start I hate that you just lose 20k 1 min into the game
I will never get sick of you complaining about subs PQ! Never!
Anti air Goliath ftw
why aiming HE at sea level? bouncing most xD
Captain skills ????
This line is the worst cruiser line in the game... Just struggling towards tier X....
For f2ps it's pretty bad and for not so skilled players and even for skilled players it's just an awkward farmer in comparison to which the likes of hinden and Henry lines are much better
Goliath is very tanky for a cruiser until RNG says it's not as with any ship wargaming RNG has the last say, LOL
I hate CVs and planes ! Enough said.
Potato, I love ya man, but come on, I have zero name recognition and my karma is 70, and I get smacked by CV's early like that all the time.
Just dodge yo.
You are complaining about being focused, do you ever think about you doing to exact same thing on an apparent noob that you mercilessly slaughter? Whining is unbecoming for someone of your skill levels!
"This is gunna be a good game! This is such a bad game! This is a strong ship. I don't play this ship a lot. Is the CV pickin' on me?! I tank with healing. Kinda. What a great game!"
Hmm couple minutes in and I really don’t like how your playing it. Not sure of your mods but I play range and rudder and I avg easy 140k damage in it.
Def has weakness but as always depends who’s shooting you and what range
It takes skill to combat subs, learn new tricks. Play subs as much as you can to learn how they work and limits, also youll learn from players who combat you effectively.
