I'm 53 and have a booth with 2 other people in it. I sell mostly handmade and upcycled items. I make $150 to $400 a month after rent, commission, and ad fee is removed. I love it. I'm single, and it keeps me occupied. The key is to constantly clean, move items around, and add new stuff. Our booth store had a 40 -50 people waiting list at one time. I did get moved to the top of the list back when I started because I discussed everything with the manager and told her what I was making. She has not been disappointed in our sales. We don't have large items. Most of my sales are $29 or less. It is doable. I love your channel because I lose my creative brain a lot and find inspiration here.
Hello Tina, watched this and found it very informative and helpful! Hope you will be making more like these in the future. My husband and I recently rented a tiny cottage in an area filled with different artisans in each cottage that is open March through December and excited to learn all that I can! Thanks again! “ )
Thanks, Tina! My husband and I started our booth business a couple of years ago and just decided to start selling decoupage paper. At 70, I don't want to invest a lot of money. Starting small!
Tina, I am 64 and I wish I had started when I was younger. I only have 1 booth and I really have to work hard to fill it. I’m very thankful you are doing this video I needed it. I was a former Elementary Teacher.
Thank you so much Tina for this information. I am 71 years old and do about 4-5 craft shows a year. One in the spring and 4 in the fall. You are so right, it is a lot of work and don't really know if it is worth it! Some shows are good and some are not. My crafts are therapy for me and I love doing it so I continue with the craft shows. I have been toying with the idea of having a booth so this information was very helpful to me. I don't want my crafts to become a job so based on your information I'm guessing a booth is not for me. I appreciate you for doing this video....thank you so much!
Tina, this is such a great video and really great information! I’ve been tossing ideas back and forth between starting an online store and or, a booth. The information you shared lets me know what I need to do to move forward. Thank you so much!
Thank you. Very informative. I am starting my own business, to stop working outside my home. I do a flea market each month and love it. It is like an extended family. I do my crafts, I started a line of purses. I also do baked goods. I do really good at it. Sometime this year we are moving and I will start 3 booths.
Thank you for sharing. I have been in the business for a long time but it’s always good great to hear and learn from others. Really enjoy all your videos but hearing your startup stories is really great. It gives a new outlook on things. Great job, please continue.
Loved this video! I am retired and love to upcycle. Did 2 craft shows last year and you are so right they're a lot of work. So im currently deciding what to do to sell my items. Your information was so helpful. Yes please do more videos like this! Thank you
Super interested in this! I’m 57 and just got a singular glass case in a brand new antique and interiors shop, and it opens at the end of the month. I also work full time so this is as much as I’m able to for now but I’m very excited about the prospect of what’s possible. 😊
Thank you for sharing all the info on how you got started with your booths, website, and UA-cam. I'm 62, retired 2 years ago and LOVE doing crafts and upcycling. I would like to start a booth as a place to "let go of" the items I make. I have done a few craft shows in the past, but like you said, that is a lot of work, and I'm usually sitting there all day by myself. Yes would like more info on the business structure.
When our craft gal started in business, she offered classes. Not only did we learn crafts, but we bought our supplies from her! The added bonus was friendships that formed. My favorite chuckle was a road trip to a local framer, we were told to bring something we might want to get framed. Since 1985 I have done the crossstitch Santa from Prarie Schooler. I decided I would like to have a dozen framed. Innocence of stupidity. One Santa 1999 cost $230.00 for framing. (Incredible framing with four frames) So I offered the remaining Santas to the group. Years later she still asks how many did I get framed, and enjoys getting the Santa every year.
Very informative and appreciate your genuineness and honesty Lots of insight into why its not easy to make profit Location is key and of course any place worth being in has an impossible waitlist Hard work and a little luck is needed Thank you for sharing both business info and DIY videos
I love hearing your start up stories. I’ve been wanting to start doing vendor booths and craft fairs so hearing about your experiences is very encouraging.
I resell in a vender mall. I have always made a profit. Other people I have seen fail is because they don’t have enough inventory. It takes a crazy amount of inventory to keep things new and refreshed.
That was so informative. Thanks so much for sharing. I've been selling my repurposed crafts and wreaths at a local floral shop. But now the store is closing, so I've been looking into other ways to sell. I live in a very rural area, so the booth options don't get much traffic. I do a few craft fairs a year, but like you said, they are a lot of work. I'm 70 now and have some back issues, so I'm limited on what I can do. The store front was perfect for me, but I'm not giving up. Something will work out for me.😊
Hi Yes this content is what I am looking forward to learning. I do craft fairs seasonal and I need to make more money. Booth selling interest me.....I do junk journals and upcycle. I had a silk flower Bouquet in my younger years. Now 74 divorced and Time. I need help in the tech world of UA-cam and small business taxes. Your info is great to listen and learn from. Also Tina you are very talented. Thank You and I will be watching.
Thank you for this! Watching right now. I’ve had a small booth for almost 3 years but getting ready to expand and your information is helpful. I look forward to more.
Wow! We sound like we are in very similar situations. I have 3 booths. One is large and I sell mostly primitives. Another is Dixie Belle paint , transfers and rice papers of various brands. Another is in a different town and I share with another vendor friend. I make a lot of my own things but no way can I keep those booths full with just my made things. Plus I work 3 days a week. You are ahead of me on having a website as I don’t have that so no shipping for me. It’s a lot of work, but I love it!❤
Tina, thank you so very much for sharing this information. I'm a retired nurse, 57 (and 58 is just around the corner), and have been trying to decide my next step. Your transparency and offering your detailed journey is so helpful. You are so very talented! Thank you thank you! ~Kelly in STL
So true. Spot is key. I had a spot right when you walk in the front door past the checkout counter. Huge booth and sales are fantastic. Big sales in my IOD and Paint Line. Going to second booth but turned it down after a six year waiting list but they wanted the IOD line and didn’t want paint line because they already had one. So they were going to bump me up. I turned it down. Wasn’t going to benefit me with the travel time. Love the way you explained it all. Definitely need the inventory or they do walk past. I miss my brick and mortar MOST. 10x10 sounds little but it is a big space.
Been with you since you started this channel. I appreciate this type of content. It really helps for us to decide what to venture into or what not to. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I started a booth last August and was wondering on adding paint and IOD but was not too sure if it was profitable. I run into the same problem like you with booths. There is a long waiting list. I couldn't get one in the place I wanted but I found a couple bookcases to rent into another location and two weeks later she offered me a 10x10 booth and that was amazing. So far I'm going really well. Even tho I'm in an antique mall I sell repurposed resale plus painted and it does well. I keep my booth very well stocked tho. Still waiting on an opening on the location I really wanted. One of these days it may happen.
It probably depends on the area where you live too. I had a booth at an antique mall for 3 years and most months I barely broke even. Many months I made nothing. After paying the booth rent, the percentage of sales to the mall, the pass along fees from the credit card companies, gas and time driving everywhere to find items for the booth and the fierce competition I discovered it was just not worth it. Then I did shows and those got too expensive and people are just not buying.
Thank you for being so candid and real about the booth business. I opened a booth at Painted Tree in Frisco in Oct. I have been trying to figure out what my demographic wants. Your manager at Grapevine used to be at Frisco. The center the store is in is dying out. I am worried that I will go broke trying to pay the rent. 2 of 3 months I have made rent. I am making products but do not have any other sources of income.
Well, i appreciate your video. It has basically convinced me to not even try to get a booth. I dont have tens of thousands of dollars to 'maybe' get approved to sell product lines; i am over 60, a single mom (so no husband to help me build or haul) of an adult son with a multitude of serious disabilities, who must work full time for many more years to come. I do crafting to keep my sanity and find some creative outlet. I have done craft shows and they are....disappointing to say the least. I do sell but its so much work for so little gain. I have been contemplating the idea of a booth as an alternative. This video has been a reality check. It is certainly not for the average, singular person, with a basic income and other responsibilities. Thanks
I've been on a similar path as you. Did craft fairs and then a booth owner for the last 10 years in various locations. I retired last year and devoting more time to my booths. Curious about adding a paint line. Is it worth the investment after purchasing and paying 10 to 20% to the shop owner? Looking forward to more videos like this but love your creativity too!
I’m 49 and have been trying to get my business going now for 3 hrs my xtool ultra still in box my cricket maker still in box 2 storage units 10x15 full if supplies a 2 car garage full. I became single after 20 yrs 3 yrs ago plus took on taking care of my dementia mother. My job has destroyed my body my left radial nerve keeps collapsing to make my wraist collapse so I knw I have to get this business going and all the help is much appreciated
thank you so much for sharing. would love to hear more. i'vse been looking for booth space for 2 yrs now and the closest for me in PA is 2 hrs away in Ohio. how much is the booth rental
I have been doing it for 16 years I did the big vintage shows also its so much work. I would love to have a booth, none with in a 35 mile radius. And long waiting list. I enjoy watching your videos so much.
Hi Tina, Thank you so much for all this information. I wanted to reach out to you and ask you for some pointers. No need now. I look forward to learning more from you business and craft wise.
Thank you so much for all the info Tina! I live in Middle Tenn and I’ve put my name on the waiting list for several booths. Including The Painted Tree but can’t seem to get anyone’s attention. So it would be something different but I’m struggling to get the owners to see my vision! You have provided me with hope and a desire to keep pushing! Thank you!
My local Painted Tree has at least 20-25 booths of jewelry, 20-25 booths with candles, and 10-15 booths with clothing. Totally over saturated, very little antique anything, and not the typical place to start a traditional booth. I buy paint there, that’s it. I’ve been doing booths for 12 years and I would never consider going into painted tree, at least in my area. There’s better options for first timers wanting to start a booth in my opinion.
My two locations at the older painted trees that have a very good variety of stores do great. But my third location is a lot like you are describing just barely makes rent. I think it depends on the store. My two locations that do well have a lot of artisans, antique booths and furniture. So definitely a different vibe and customer base. PT does attract higher demographic customers they are willing to spend more so I do sell at a higher price than I would be able to at other antique malls etc. From what I saw rent was not that different than most PT locations.

Yes the waiting list thing is crazy. IOD is very profitable but getting more saturated so look how many people in your area are selling it first.
It probably depends on the area where you live too. I had a booth at an antique mall for 3 years and most months I barely broke even. Many months I made nothing. Thanks for this video. I'm 68 and looking at sharing a booth with a friend. Do you think that's a good idea? We have very different wares.

It’s all different depending on location. The best thing to do is look up Painted Tree locations and call them.
Where are you in PA? I'm in Erie
@ prosperity pa south of Washington pa
Thanks for your information very good.
I have been doing it for 16 years I did the big vintage shows also its so much work. I would love to have a booth, none with in a 35 mile radius. And long waiting list. I enjoy watching your videos so much.
Thank you yes it’s shocking the wait lists at these places. Thanks for watching !
Hi Tina, Thank you so much for all this information. I wanted to reach out to you and ask you for some pointers. No need now. I look forward to learning more from you business and craft wise.
You are very welcome, I love to help!

My desire is to do mostly upcycles because I don’t see them in any of the antique malls. So it would be something different but I’m struggling to get the owners to see my vision! You have provided me with hope and a desire to keep pushing! Thank you!
of course there is a waiting list. I have been renting in my mall for 22 years !
It is crazy how long some of these waiting lists are!
I tried to do this and some of my projects got stolen by the chairperson. 9:37
I do have a UA-cam channel that I need to add more content.
My local Painted Tree has at least 20-25 booths of jewelry, 20-25 booths with candles, and 10-15 booths with clothing. Agreed. Best to you! Keep the videos coming. I love them.
In my small town, most stores have closed. Interest is dropping.
Yes I think in person shopping is being replaced by online shopping. Definitely I sell more online than in person.
