Great point on individualizing the pause -- we aren't powerlifters trying to guarantee depth and power out of the hole on squat, training to account for different lengths of pause on the "press" command on bench, or working through a mid shin sticking point on deadlift
You don't have to train harder than last time. That's pure quote garbage. Full stretch under as much tension as you can handle in control with repetition. That's all you need for muscle growth. The rest is just talking.

Great video! Seen the one on Jonni's channel but happy to watch this one again. In the future I'd love to see Dr. Mike and Jared hang out with Brian Shaw and/or Eddie Hall, that would make a great video
I watched a previous video, i think it was "meal timing" and I thought he was joking when he said that he couldn't eat before training because he'll throw it up. God damn.
I want to clearify some things on the shoulderpress with dumbells. 1: the Angle of the bench should be adjustet to your shoulder mobility, 2: the more you bow/arch your back in this, the more help you are going to Get from you upper chest, if you wanna take the pressure of that and focus completely on the deltoids, your back should be neutral. 3: no point of really going very far down in the start of the press, like lower then elbows reaching shoulder height
The interesting thing for me is that I find that a slow and controlled concentric on the leg curls feels more intense than a quick and powerful one. That's what I prefer for it funny enough
Dr Mike, what are your thoughts on the vertical leg press? It destroys my quads way,way more effectively than a normal leg press. I noticed you never really talk about or use it in video. Curious off your thoughts on it.
Do you have an actual vertical leg press machine or just a smith machine? You’re a lucky guy if you’ve got the real thing. I’ve only been able to use one once
Who cares what his thoughts are? If you feel it and you enjoy it, DO IT. What if he says he doesn't like that exercise, are you going to stop doing them?
I think that if an exercise is easy on your joints but hard on your muscles, it's awesome. For ME and most people I know, the vertical leg press is terrible because it highly limits quad ROM but greatly encourages back rounding under load. - Dr. Mike
