    When cleaning the feeders, use a short sleeved garment. Birds carry, and spread bird mites, and you don't want to get those on your clothing. They look like tiny black dots, and you can see them moving around. They (the mites) can infest your home, and are almost impossible to to get rid of... and they'll feed off humans if given the chance. Also, make sure that after cleaning the feeders, you wash your hands and arms well to ensure there are no mites on you.

    Some helpful tips, I must admit that I did not realize the importance of keeping my feeders clean. I will clean them regularly from now on though. Thank you.

    Great information in these videos, thank you! I use old dog collars with the plastic clip to hang my feeders....great in the Canadian winters, when my fingers are freezing trying to undo the feeders to fill. Vinegar and baking soda to clean my bird bath and feeders.

      That would work on bird baths too. I was wondering if baking soda would be OK.

      yeah, also bleach water. the dish detergent leaves behind a residue, including on plastic.

    Never move my 3 tube feeder until refilling it and i just use hot water with a bottle brush and after it's dry i fill it and put it on a shepherd hook out front of my home. All types if birds keep coming. Cardinals woodpeckers etc. I have a hanging water ledge bottle with a screwed on lip they can perch on to get a drink. I do notice the water dispenser getting a little sludge, but it's less than a pint of water so i need to clean and replenish it often here in northwest Florida.
    I am thinking of setting up a fountain, but need a good size inexpensive bucket to hold enough water that it lasts with all the evaporation of a fountain spray!

    Thanks for all this info. My apt borders a park in a dense area where ppl usually are not around. Many feeders have been broken up& dragged away. Even my suet cages. So I stopped getting them. On one very tall tree there is a broken limb that leaves a nice landing spot for the birds. I have not cleaned off this branch w/ soap & water. It’s a stretch but I can use a 2 step p ladder reach it. You mentioning just how sick birds can become was alarming. Plus this tree branch gives the squirrels a place to sit & est most of the seed. Their feces must be harmful 2 the birds as well correct? I’m asking if me placing seed on this thick branch is wise or more harmful? Anything that falls to the base of the tree squirrels feed on. Due to the dense area I don’t clean up around the base of the tree. Here in NY suburb there are many nice, chipmunks, squirrels raccoons & rats. At times Zi bress as k up duet into many pieces & I mix seed with it & then place a few cups together & place it on the tree branch. I can only use one arm so disassembling feeders is not easy, I guess I’m asking if filling this branch w/ the seed is wise or more harmful ? Thank you in advance for your help & advice. I too don’t think bleach is wise to use bc eventually it will gather w/ rain & leave a unhealthy puddle. Ok hVe a good day. My brother has many feeders d sad o I can share your info w/ him. He has a nice yard. Many squirrels, rabbits, mice … he tries to scare them off but they’re faster than he is. he is.

    Can I put my feeders in the dishwasher (without dishes) ?The water is very hot.And also what about scalding the bird bath

  • @apollonia6656
    @apollonia6656 4 роки тому +1

    Well, the sparrows love the suet pellets and the mixed seeds ( less so, though ), but the Niger seeds are left untouched.
    I have not seen a single finch or tit. What has happened to them ?
    So far, I have to poles with feeders and seven feeders on the tree. Also a ground test which attracts the robins, sparrows and needless to say the collar pigeons, wood pigeons and the magpies.
    Yes, I also have a bird bath and trays of water, again the birds are avoiding the bird bath even though the depth is just right.

    • @harounbraik868
      @harounbraik868 4 роки тому +1

      Goldfinches are the only birds that eat niger seeds. If they are not in your region, nobody will touch your niger seeds.
      Concerning your garden birds, it's funny because we have nearly the same! I have house sparrows and great tits that eat on the tube feeders, Collared Doves magpies that eat on soil, Starlings that eat on my fruit trees and even a wagtail that comes to eat insects in the grass! Good luck and happy birdwatching !

  • @tarjei99

    Chlorine is an old favourite to disinfect almost anything. But perhaps not anything that is absorbent. Rinse with warm water afterwards.

    Lol at the last 15 seconds of the video, the birds only eat about a third of the seeds and the other two thirds just fall to the ground. These slobs just basically Cookie Monster it.

    This advise is the ''worst' advice . People feeding birds is taking away their independence , to feed themselves, by nature they don't need YOU!!!. you are training them to depend on you, not on themselves they need to be in the wild, not in a person's backyard, there is nothing ''cute'' about your advice. Also birds will hang around your neighborhood , and dropping their pooh, and noise and the worst attracting other birds in the neighborhood , which is dangerous, harmful to health, and noise, etc. dropping your food into someone's else yard , attracting ants, rats, more birds, etc.
