Oh man! I'm RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. I feel EXACTLY the same way. I was at a casino in Connecticut in 2016 and Skid Row happened to be playing a bar in the casino... not the big venue - literally maybe 60 people eating dinner at tables. I watched for a couple of songs and couldn't handle it.
The other day Skid Row showed up on my UA-cam feed and I saw the image had ANOTHER lead singer and I laughed out loud just like you did. But then I heard the guy and thought "Hold on a minute." My wife was at work and when she got home I had watched probably 20 videos of Erik and told her to "check this guy out." By the end of the video I was looking up concert tickets. This guy is the SHIT. If they get rid of him, they're done.
But, I can see him outgrowing the band in some way shape or form. The dude can sing to a tailor hitch and win. So happy for these guys.

But the situation with singer after singer is just rediculous Johnny solinger was a great singer and had some pretty good albums but gong back to the Sebastian Bach era I think the excuse that’s stopped a proper reunion is because of things that happend Back in the 90s and if you see any interviews with him he will even say he crossed the line but it’s 2022 now so time can be a healer

The revolving door of singers to me, just means they'd rather have anyone, but Bach. Look at it this way, he whines about a reuinion every six months or so and the Bach purists want him back (I don't, I've heard him sing lately) and yet every time they have a chance to bring him back, bam another singer, still not Bach. Sebastian Bach is a great front man. Epic. I have seen him a couple times live in recent years and he sounded terrific. He might be excitable and enthusiastic and loud and maybe that's annoying overtime, but he is amazing. He adores music, which translates into passion in his singing. I don't think he's much of a diva, honestly. He treated the fans at the gigs I went to well. He was friendly and sweet and happy. He was very personable and spent time with folks. The people in his solo band like him. The people on Broadway like him. The people on Gilmore Girls and Trailer Park Boys seem to like him because they kept bringing him back. He's worked with a lot of people since Skid Row, and not too many folks bemoan him as much as Snake and Rachel. Some folks see someone who is happier, wealthier, better looking, more successful than they are, or whatever, and it makes them feel better about themselves to try and knock them down a peg, to perpetuate a lie or to jump on the bandwagon. Sometimes people see their opportunity to get some free press by getting into a social media disagreement with someone famous, and they'll poke the bear until they get what they're looking for. I think that's what's happened to Sebastian, in some regards. I wouldn't take anything you saw on a VH1 reality show as fact, ya know? His dad died while he was filming that show, and sometimes people grieving might drink a bit too much and with cameras rolling it's pretty easy to cut n paste some sensational tv to help boost viewership without much regard for the person on tape, or the reality of the situation.

Sebastian is an amazing front man, thats why its so disappointing I never got to see him play with Skid Row! His passion is undeniable, you can tell by the way he talks about music. I'm happy to hear you had a good experience meeting him. And you're right, reality TV does sensationalize things and I have never met him so I cant say how he really is to be around, but the show does paint him to be a bit difficult. But that kind of comes with the territory of being a lead singer

As far as Eric, I seen them just last month .I was very skeptical leading up to the concert being a person that hates seeing changes in my favorite band's but as strange as I think Eric is he won me over as the lead singer for Skid Row . I seen them in the late eighties or early nineties so he had to really be doing something to sway me and he did. Your entitled to your opinion and I respect it. One band mate doesn't make the band. No matter who it is. All I can say if you haven't seen them live ,then you should. He sings the old songs just like you remember them. He doesn't add anything to then or take anything away from them. He can hit all the high notes seamlessly and higher ones as well. He's not replacing Sébastien, it can't be done. He is the lead singer for SKID ROW just like Sébastien was. I'm not hating on any of them. They all deserve to be happy and enjoy what they are doing in their lives. If you're a real Skid Row fan you owe it to yourself to go see them live before kicking them to the curb. If you still have the same opinion afterwards then more power to ya. When a band's reputation is so tied to a particular singers voice (Skid Row, Alice in Chains, STP, Blind Melon etc.) it's really hard to replace the singer and do the band justice. You run the risk of either coming off as a tribute cover band (which is kind of sad if it's a tribute of your own band), or your band doesn't sound like itself anymore.
Alice in Chains were in a tough spot, because Layne obviously died, they took a lot of time off cause of it, and finally decided to try it again. Layne had such a distinctive voice, and Jerry Cantrell did state that the band would always feel like there was a void that could never be filled due to Layne's passing, but they wanted to keep playing as a band, play their old music and possibly make new music. When they settled on William Duvall, it was surprising for a lot of fans, because there were other singers that would have sounded just like Layne, but Jerry mentioned that the specifically didn't want a Layne copy cat, because it would feel too much like a cover band, and they didn't feel that would have done justice to Layne's legacy, but also for the band to continue in an authentic way. The lucky thing about AIC music is there are a lot of vocal harmonies with both the lead vocals and Jerry's vocals, so in the mix, it's really convincingly AIC sounding, and while William's solo vocals do sound different than Layne's he can hit the notes, but doesn't stray too far from Layne's sound, that it works. I really respected the way AIC went about it, because it was obviously important for them that whoever they chose be a "real" member, had the right vibe and fit with the band, and wasn't just a singer for hire type. They really spent the time to ease William into the position with live gigs first, then when they released their first album with him, he only sang lead on 1 song, where as the vocals on the others were mostly vocal harmonies with Jerry. As time went on, Will took a more central part in the singing, but the presence of vocal harmonies were still a huge part, and Jerry would sing lead sometime too. It was obvious that this was a deliberate decision, that they weren't trying to recreate the same kind of AIC as when Layne was alive, but working with what they had to still make great music, and it worked. So, it's really a tricky thing.
I actually, and surprisingly, really liked Chester Bennington with STP. I will admit that when I respect Chester for his career, and condolences to his family, I was not the biggest Linkin Park fan, but I think he was really good in STP which was unexpected. The tone of his voice just worked with that style of music, and it didn't sound like he was trying to mimic Scott, and it didn't come across as a "singer for hire" either. He obviously has a genuine connection to their music, and loved it. I actually really wanted them to make more original music with him, I felt it would have been great.
As for Blind Melon, I just don't think they have found someone who has worked with the absence of Shannon Hoon, which is sad, because they're a great band.
As for Skid Row, I would have to agree with your assessment that all the singers after Bach just never really fit. I was pleasantly surprised by this new singer, but I'm holding my final judgement, because I want to see how he fits with the band... it's just too new right now. For me, it's not enough to just hire some guy that's good at singing and can sing the songs, there has to be some kind of connection where they feel like an authentic and organic part of the band, otherwise it just feels a bit formulaic and inauthentic, kind of like that movie "rock star" where all the band members stay the same, and they just keep rotating out the singers as they get tired of them... it almost feels like the singers are doing karaoke, regardless of how accurately they sing. The singer really need to mesh with the band and BE a part of it in a real way, bringing something of themselves to the table as opposed to just being a dispensable puppet up there. I want to feel that the singer is not just filling in, but that their uniqueness is part of the bands sound and identity. As for this new singer, I'm not sure yet, it's too early to tell. I mean the guy can really sing, and sounds like Bach, but I don't want to feel like I'm listening to someone on The Voice, or something, if that makes sense.
Anyway, I wrote too much, but that's what I think.

Both HEAT (which was more 80's hair metal mixed with the sleaze wave that came in the 00's) and New Horizon (which are more power metal) show that he's got a voice of his own. It's possible that he's modeled his voice after Bach from the beginning since he's a fan (just look at his Idol audition 10 years ago) but I think by know he stands on his own. As for chemistry with the band, well that remains to be seen

Glad I got the chance to take some epic pre and post show photo's with him and the rest of the band over the 4 days. I was 15 when the 1989 album came out, and it swept across the hard rock landscape like wildfire. Everyone, was into it, everyone. Except for the speed metal cultists who even thought Metallica was too weak. I like the new Skid Row single, and if someone told it was an unreleased song from 89, I would be tempted to believe them. It sounds right in line with Piece of Me and Sweet Little Sister. It's a bit less raw and nasty material-wise, but the fullness of the sound and tone are all there.

Great video! Interesting for me as I'm a new "fan" now since Erik is the front singer in the band (and yes, I'm a swede and have known about Erik's amazing vocals for years). I've known about the band for ages and liked a few of their classic hits with Sebastain, but it's only now in my early fifties that I've given hard rock/ metal a chance and I'm having a blast discovering (and sometimes rediscovering) great music from a genre I've not cared about before. And therefore I haven't followed the band and their music until recently. Anyway, Erik is killing it and Skid Row are lucky to have him. If these early shows with Erik tells me anything, it is that the band sounds energetic and hyped about performing and that the guys are all smiles again! And if the new album is as good as the new single, let's hope that it will be one of many new albums with Erik as their front singer!

I had taken pics from the day before, had them developed (yes old school 35mm) and he signed everyone of them. One was during GTFO ( Get The F Out) and he flipped me dbl finger, mid vocals! He said that was one of the coolest pics of him ever. I responded , first guy ever given me the dbl finger, and I didn't want to beat them! I thought he was a pretty good fit at the time. I'm the guy who gave Blaze Bayley a chance when he became the singer of Iron Maiden in 1995... I loved his record w/ the band ('The X Factor') ... When Judas Priest returned in 1997 w/ new singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens, I was enthusiastic about the 'Jugulator' album... I even loved the 1994 'Motley Crue' album w/ John Corabi on vocals... 'Sound of white noise' by Anthrax w/ John Bush replacing Joey Belladonna... I kept supporting Sepultura after Derrick Green replaced Max Cavalera and the band was still incredible live while their fans moaned "It isn't Sepultura without the Cavalera brothers"... but 'Nation' was a banger album. Helloween w/ singer Andi Deris replacing Michael Kiske in 1994 still gave us great metal records... Accept carrying on w/ singer Mark Tornillo replacing the iconic Udo Dirkschneider worked somehow... Queensryche w/ Todd LaTorre replacing singer Geoff Tate was no shock, but much-needed and brought them back to metal.
Drowning Pool replaced late singer Dave Williams 3 times - Jason 'Gong' Jones... Ryan McCombs ... and now, Jasen Moreno. Still rocking hard!
Nightwish firing their operatic singer Tarja w/ a pop singer Anette - still worked! Band got even more popular... Floor Jansen joined in 2012 replacing Anette, and they got even better!
But Skid Row replacing Sebastian Bach? I went to see them open for Kiss in 2000, and (the late) singer Johnny Solinger sounded great at first, but the records were not cutting it... I remember in 2006, Sebastian Bach was opening for Axl's Guns N' Roses in arenas and killing it live (Helmet played after him and sucked!) and Skid Row were playing a bar in Maplewood, MN and could not even sell it out... We hoped, and hoped that Sebastian Bach would return to Skid Row, but nope. Two more changes - Tony Harnell joined briefly, the ex-Dragonforce singer Z.P. Theart joined (after the failure of his I Am I project) and there was hope again... and now we got a new singer - Erik Gronwall. I listened to the new song... meh. I saw clips of the guy live and he was just not right at all, his headbanging looked like a Jose Jalapeno on a stick trying to be a rock star... it was awful. I watched this video, and tried again. Seeing Gronwall at M3 Festival singing 'Slave to the grind' was like watching Celine Dion trying to sing AC/DC's "You shook me all night long" (Just watch the video for a good laugh! 😂) Awful. I had the same impression after seeing Gary Cherone singing for Van Halen in 1998... it was just so odd-looking.
If that's where Skid Row wants to go? Great... best of luck. But don't expect massive crowds. I'm sure many will like him, but not enough... I'm just saying. Sorry.

Almost everyone you named is a footnote, as could be Erik, but I think you're missing the boat this time. Bayley, Corabi, Owens, all replacements just to be replaced themselves...by their original counterparts... So who cares if YOU liked them at the time lol.
But if Baz isn't coming back, this is the endgame.
No one is expecting "massive crowds" but not every replacement singer you named is in the same league as Gronwall. I've seen the same videos you have, he sings great, he performs the old songs excellently.

If u like Erik Gronwall? Go support the band and see them live... enjoy.
After seeing Johnny Solinger (R.I.P.) w/ Skid Row, it felt like Poison's Bret Michaels fronting the band at points... I've been Z.P. Theart w/ Dragonforce, and he had the stage presence and the voice... I just don't get either w/ Gronwell in Skid Row. I've watched old concert footage w/ Bach in Skid Row, and even I could feel that the band was special... I don't get that w/ Gronwell.
U can judge a talent by their vocals, their stage presence and their interactions w/ the crowd. Adam Lambert worked somehow performing Queen songs because he had it all... he was no Freddie Mercury, but sounded and looked great, giving Queen songs a different take in concert, and millions of fans embraced him in that role. If he sucked, he'd have been out in a year...
I'm just saying I gave a few 'replacement singers' a shot and liked 'em... Do not ever knock Blaze Bayley; he wasn't right for Iron Maiden (he couldn't sing in Bruce Dickinson's key), but he's awesome in solo concerts. I went to see him play a bar w/ about 25 people watching, and he cranked out over an hour of heavy metal tunes and met everybody after the show to sign merch and take pics (I've seen popular bands play for 45 - 50 minutes, then p--- off!)... Some performers u have to see live to experience their talent... and despite being bald & old, his vocals sounded like a battering ram.
In rock music, there is no 'endgame' until the musicians pass away. If it works, move forward... if it doesn't, next 👉

I remember Skid Row and Pantera smoking weed on stage and then at the end of Skid Rows set, Bach yelled into the mic, "Say no to drugs"...... damn good show

I think Erik may be one of the most naturally talented rock vocalists I've ever heard. I loved him in H.E.A.T and was really bummed when he left. I think he is a perfect fit for Skid Row. Already pre-ordered the album. Looking forward to seeing them on tour.

O man u totally nailed it from beginning to end and from singer to singer of how I feel, as if I wrote it myself. At first Erik was already on my "no fucking way" list but after realizing that "hey this guy can really sing" he grew on me as well. You can also hear the range of youth in his voice. Don't get me wrong Sabastian will always be my fav for SKID ROW.
I live in T.O and I remember watching Baz at THE GASWORKS, where I use to bartend. Back when he was in Kidwicked.Always came in with Marie and was cool, composed and kept to him self/kind of quiet. Then on stage he lite up like a fricken firecracker no one could get enough of Sabastian Bach. Now that a true bonfied fuckin' frontman

I think your comment is spot on. A bit evil but still correct. I'm just back from a Skid Row (with Erik Grönwall) Gig last Saturday (Nov. 12th 2022) in Switzerland. I've seen Skid Row with Seb in 1991 and even though I'm a Rock-Gig Veteran of over 1000 Gigs (as Audience - I'm unfortunately no Rockstar myself ;-)) this Gig on November 17th 1991 I will remember forever! I've seen Skid Row also in 1996 and this was awesome as well. THAT BEING SAID... Erik killed it last Saturday in Switzerland! He was wayyyy better than all of the UA-cam-Videos I could find. And no, that's not only my judgement being in the crowd (first row) banging vs analyzing Videos in peace... I've recorded some clips myself Saturday night and reviewed them with some distance... ERIC IS JUST MINDBLOWINGLY GOOD AND THE PERFECT FIT! Sebastian still sings great (again - he had bad years imho) and he has a rockstar charisma on and off the stage and I will go see him whenever he'll play my area. He built this "Character" of the ultimate Skid Row Frontman and he wrote all these perfect vocal-lines and he performed it for eternity! I'm glad, he still performs and puts out records! But I'm also sooooo happy and satisfied that Skid Row found and hired Erik. Saturday was like a time machine. Of course in a way Erik copies 1991 Sebastian... but why blame him for that! He does it perfectly! He's so raw and angry and full of energy and he screams his lungs and soul out. He really gave it ALL! And I mean ALL! Not just sonically (though that really was as perfect, as it could be - including the imperfections that make it authentic and Rock'n'Roll!) but he also is THE BEST Frontmen I've seen in a loooong time! He's got the ability to alternate between charme and danger in expression/Charisma. i'm really blown away! Plus the band seemed so fresh through their regained powerhouse frontman... it was such a pleasure to experience. Please who ever reads this sermon (sorry - if your heart is full... you have to shout it from the rooftop!) please do yourself a favor and go see Skid Row with Erik!
A little Sidenote: Erik just survived leukemia last year and this might have been the reason for wearing the hat... The Hairdo he rocks now is as badass as the whole appearance. (My Girlfriend is convinced his eyes send out lightning flashes... - I don't resent her this)

By 1996 Alternative/Punk and Numetal took over everything. (Not to mention New Country and Gangsta Rap) An opening slot for the Kiss Reunion Tour would have been a smart move for a band who was back to playing small clubs in the States.

    Totally on point.
But not sure (because I haven't heard) about the new vocalist.
Bach came in as a singer for hire, 3 1/2 albums & mega-success later, is let go.
Unfortunately, I think Bolan & Sabo have used this "gun for hire" mentality with their other vocalists, to a fault...
So, what is missing in the Skid Row camp since Bach departed??
    Plain & simple, CHEMISTRY.
Asking ANY band to reunite with a member after they've left is like asking divorced parents to get back together.
Amazingly discomforting, but Skid Row, please, do it for the children (fans). \m/

Unfortunately, although I was introduced to Skid Row's music when I was a teen, in the 90's, I didn't get to see them LIVE when Sebastian was lead singer (wish I could have 😭). I finally got to see them in 2018 and 2019, with Z.P. and I was quite pleased with the show. I thought hey sounded great and long-haired metalhead lover that I am, thought he was eye candy 😁. Must say I was very sad to see he was no longer with them, when I saw the announcement of their new Tour a couple weeks ago. However, I decided to come into UA-cam to see if the new dude at least has a decent voice and stage presence and was pleasantly surprised, so I am now considering it. Hopefully it is money well spent.
