We have been travelling to Cuba since 2003...go roughly once a year give or take.....The first time to Sanctuary Cayo Santa Maria.....January 2003...Realized we just love Cuba...The people make the difference! We always enjoyed trying out different places....Until we went to the Sanctuary Cayo Santa Maria.... Here to staff make the difference ....Just love going there ,Going back for ouor 8th time in a couple of months!!!

We’ve been to 3 of the same resorts and our experiences have need the same, the most spectacular beach in the world, lovely staff and there’s always something to eat/drink - this isn’t a KEG people this is Cuba! Try their cuisine! We found the most enjoyable meals were when we tried the more Cuban dishes! Go with the flow people !!! It’s Cuba, they struggle, we’re here for nothing basically just enjoy the sun, the music, the atmosphere. ❤

I call Cuba, Caribbean camping. You just roll with times. We are not food snobs, and enjoy the basics like eggs and add-ins from the buffet. We tend to eat only twice a day n the heat and do just fine. Thanks for the great 2023 videos!

We booked two weeks in Cuba at the end of November for our first visit. We found your videos very helpful as to what to expect and how to deal with the situation. And also we were able to hit the ground running because of your resort tours. We chose Memories Caribe and we were pleased with our choice. The beach was great and the smaller size made everything within a 5 minute walk. I'm not a resort guy but rather like to experience the local scene which is the main drawback of Cayo Coco, being a long way and expensive to get to the city. But we will hopefully return, maybe do a couple nights in the city to spend some more time with some new friends we met there. We found the people to be very nice and we tried to find out their stories which increased our level of appreciation as to what they have to deal with.

We originally were going to go to the Flamenco, but with the consistent water issues and your input have we decided to try Sanctuary in Santa Maria in a few weeks. We were in the DR for 2022 and Europe for 23 so I'm looking forward to coming back to Cuba. I've missed it and can't wait to share it with my girl. Blessings to you both for 2024!!! We've stayed at two Melia Resorts in the past 13 months. We had a great time at both The Melia Buenavista on Cayo Santa Maria and the Paradisus Rio de Oro Resort & Spa - Holguín. It was our first times in Cuba and we had a great time at both. We can give you more feedback if you wish. We're very much like you guys - very chill and relaxed!

I'm going to the same one at the end of January. The shortages of food don't scare me! There's always something to eat. You won't starve !

We had a great time, weather was great, beach amazing.
Remember bug spray, mosquitoes and flies got worse throughout the week.
Food was plentiful, lots of proteins. Eggs, bacon daily.
No milk(powdered only) cola came and went, no butter, wine also came and went. Warm water no hot. No water or power shortages.
No big deal, just moved on to the next thing.
Staff were amazing.

A note on shortages: Saw an article where they said Cuba only was able to import 4% of normal fertilizer and 20% of animal feed. That then fed into a a shortage of feed for chickens, so fewer chickens with not enough feed to lay eggs regularly. It also impacted vegetable production and pork as well. I don't see how this gets any better until Cuba can buy more imports - and if the resorts are suffering imagine the situation for the average Cuban.

Actually all the chicken you eat on Cuban resorts comes from the USA….not sure about the eggs. I suspect they are from off the island as well. Same as for fish….if you enjoy the grilled fish at the buffet …thank Vietnam….

Fun to watch a review where we’ve stayed at most of the same resorts as yourselves.
Because our number one preference is no unpleasant surprises, our last 5 visits have been Melia Cayo Coco x 3, and Memories Cayo Largo x 2. We know what to expect from these two resorts during uncertain times in Cuba.
We just changed our late January trip from Cayo Largo to Iberostar Coral Cayo Cruz.
Same ownership as Coral Village Ensenachos ( which we love), but Cayo Cruz is a new property, and a new destination for us.

Hello. What hotel in Cayo Largo ?
Just found your channel a few days ago. Have watched a lot of your Cuba videos and the Lisbon video. Such great info on all resorts and the city of Lisbon. My husband and I love Cuba. We have been to Cayo Largo, Varadero, Holguin and Cayo Coco. My husband has also been to Santiago. We had our honeymoon at Memories Cayo Largo, known then as Sol Cayo Largo. We have loved every place we have been, our favourites are probably Cayo Largo, the then Breezes Varadero, Playa Costa Verde in Holguin and the Sol Cayo Coco, it has an amazing beach and huge bay beside the beach that is great for swimming. We have also been to Portugal, my husband was born there. We have visited Lisbon, Alges, Quarteira in the Algarve and Figueiro da Serra, the town my husband was born in. It is close to the mountains, an absolutely stunning area of the country. We are hoping to go again soon. Thanks Mike and Jenn for all the videos. So informative in a fun way.

We paid almost double for a resort that we travel to regularly this year and with the shortages were disappointed. Decided to book an economy trip to compare if it was worth the money we had just spent and to our surprise they had less shortages and the experience was great. Always enjoy Cuba though and your videos ignite our desire to go again and again

Happy New Year Mike and Jen from John in Cornwall, Ontario. We recently got back from our go-to resort, the Melia Cayo Coco. Unfortunately this time those shortages you mentioned were obvious but knowing a lot of folks there we still had a good time. As for my favorite resort I have to side with Jen, it's the Memories Cayo Largo. The Melia in Cayo Coco is still great but there is something about Cayo Largo. I'm looking forward to your Tryp resort review.

Anxiously awaiting what you have to say in this video. We’ve been to Cuba annually since 2010( but not 2 pandemic years), and this year due to horrid reviews, shortages we just don’t know where to book. We were considering Memories Flamenco but due to recent reviews….. anyways we love watching your Cuban resort videos. Keep up the good work…. A J from east coast Canada.
For those exact reasons that you are fearful of - pick another destination. It is really hit and miss with many of the resorts right now. And if you do go you have to accept that.

Good video Mike. I find it hard to have a favorite as we like to go to a different resort each time. Santa Maria was i think one of the best beaches we have been to in cuba. The bus ride is long though as you said.

Great video I travel often to cuba specifically cayo coco as my partner is from Ciego, which I also visited a few times, and when you see what they have it's doesn't not compare to the resorts. People complain about food shortages, when the people living there don't get a fraction of what we get. They have days they go starving and food shortages are worse then the resorts. We shouldn't be complaining about things out of their control, and one thing I can say about Cuba is that they always find a way to make the best with what they have. Love your videos keep up the great work. 👍🏾

Happy New year to you and your family. We have 5 more nights till we go to Holguin. (Playa Pesquero) This will be our first time in Holguin. We stayed at the Ensenachos when it was newer. right after Iberostar bought it from I believe Royalton, and it was the best hotel we ever stayed at in Cuba. We returned in September 2019 and we could see how much it aged. The one thing that did not age poorly was the most beautiful gardening I have seen to this day. Love the videos keep up the great work.

Great video, as far as Cayo Santa Maria goes for the bus ride, we found it was like a free mini excursion, not that bad really, but helps if there is a banos on the bus, lol. Been there six times and loved it, just got back from grand aston cayo las brujas, very nice resort, looking at Cayo coco next time. Thanks for the great videos

Another great video. Lots of Memories resorts on your list. I will have to check them out. One thing you didn't comment on was the view from your room. Not a deal breaker but an added bonus, especially first thing in the morning.Look forward to your 2024 reviews. Cuban government has reduced rations to Cuban citizens. I feel for them.

Would love to see a review of the melia cayo coco. Old resort, but has a huge following of return guests who go only there.
Talk more about room security: I am reading that at many resorts, the doors do not lock, the door keycards do not work, money goes missing from the room safe, I am reading that items from the room disappear - I also hear that unless you ASK for the prices of things beforehand, they prices are outrageous! So hey, another video about SECURITY - oh yes, I am also reading that leaving the resort at night is not a good ideal, I hear that prices are astronomical - as in $10 for a can of beer, which is not a security issue, but all of this talk about the best resorts - WHAT ABOUT security? Please.

We go to Cuba for the beaches, the sun, the relaxing experience,and the friendly Cuban people. We in New Brunswick and enjoy the short flight and the time we spend in Cuba, understanding they suffer from shortages of the basic items, as for the food, we never went hungry and we don’t go there for Macdonald’s or Tim Hortons, love your videos, thank you for helping us with our choice of resorts, we look at them all than decide, great job thank you

The Corel Level is the same Resort but the Adults only section!!!

Love your videos!! I do have a question, the Iberostar Ensenachos was never on our list so I want to look at it again, but I can't tell which part you stayed at (or the room category) as there are the Coral and the Selection side.
I was in Blocl 26 i believe the Spa section!!!! over by the pool!!!
When i blocked it I was given the option for the price (RUN OF THE HOUSE).
I liked it, its a big resort just so you know.

@@jenniferfisher4912 Thanks. If you're taking requests for Cuba 2024 😇, for my own personal / selfish reasons, a visit to the Memories Trinidad Del Mar on the south side of Cuba would be wonderful to see. It's on beautiful Playa Ancon, it's available via Sunwing, you land at Santa Clara
Thank you for the information!! This very helpful. When I visit resorts I tend to stick with the Melia chain, but I’m tempted to try a memories hotel. Jenny mentioned that the avocado were plentiful at her favourite resort. That there was good supply at that resort when she visited is less of a ‘supply’ issue and more of a seasonal issue. Avocado season in Cuba is fairly short, from June to September (ripe and ready in August - October) depending on what area you are in. Santiago produces enormous avocados - but there are many varieties.
Between May and July mangos are harvested and available for consumption. Pineapple, bananas, guava and papaya are available all most year round, under the right climactic conditions. Saying this, it is likely when there are a lot of avocados at one resort, there are a lot at all the resorts at that time. While I lived there six months at a time, I’d plan my travel dates to catch the very short avocado season, and stay long enough to enjoy the juicy mangos. But really, if the temps and rainfall were above or below average, the availability would be greatly affected. Cuba doesn’t import like Canada does. If we have a shortage in Canada, we simply increase import of that good. In Cuba, however, they rely heavily on what they can produce on the island.

@@Finding-Fish I think my next goal is Cayo Largo. In 2022, as you’re probably aware, Sunwing contracted rights over the Cayo - or key. It is one of the few airlines that goes there now. So I’m looking forward to Cayo Largo, because if it’s raw nature and ample forum to be alone and away from the touristy crowds. It’s not so affected by the post-pandemic power outages and shortages that mainland Cuba is experiencing. Cayo Largo was always popular with Europeans who don’t really love big resorts like Canadians do, and avoided the larger touristy all-inclusive up to Sunwings acquirement. I did read that there is still one small Italian airline that frequents the island. It will be a really cool experience for me.
I have a question, How is the wifi quality around the resort? I heard that it can be partially slow considering there is also no cell data which is fine, just wondering though. 😁

Im heading back for my 19th trip to Brisas Del Caribe/Varadero on the 20th.. Cuba is definitely not for everyone.. Unfortunately you were there during a cold spell over Christmas and New Years 🥶.. i found what i was looking for on my first trip.. im paying 699 for a week flying outta Toronto.. Like seriously whos making money on these trip packages 🤷♂️.. Definitely lots of shortages now...

As an avid traveler, memories flaminco 2023 was absolutely disgusting! I’ve never experienced such a horrid travel experience! 18 years of going to Cuba and that resort is the reason I take a break from Cuba! No blankets, no water in the room ( no toilet or shower ) had to use the beach wash stations. Front desk was always packed with people trying to get issues fixed yet no one cared!
That’s awful so sorry to hear this- this is definitely not what I experienced but I will go back and do an update. Thanks for sharing.

Bug spray and a smile goes along way down here!!!
I am sure you know what to bring but just in case- bug spray, a variety of meds and snacks / food items esp for the kids and then the usual…. You can always leave anything behind that you didn’t use

Mike i would like to ask you why Cayo Largo was not in your your top 3. we have been to Starfish Cayo Largo in 2020 and loved it. we are actually looking at the Iberostar enchenachos for our next vacation. absolutely love your videos. would love to discuss further with you. Memories Caribe is our 2nd choice.

Just wanted to clarify- they do not want loonies and toonies (just too polite to say otherwise) that is why they will happily give you the coins for paper $$ but I would not give them as tips. So either give $5 CAD tips or exchange CAD for pesos or bring USD ones if you can get before leaving. I have seen various people on you tube talk about how they exchanged CAD to pesos getting better rates etc so it all depends what is available and what you are comfortable with
