Stolas is a gay man forced into a marriage he didn't want with a woman he lothes. Its really heart breaking, though I imagine he'd see it as worth it since it resulted in Octavia.

The biggest reason for me to not care about the cheating aspect in all of this is the fact that they never loved each other. Their relationship was basicly only on paper. There was no love or trust to break between them.

When Stella tries to hit Stolas and he catches it, look at her face...
It looks like this wasn't the first time she hit him, but the first time he did something against it.

And here we are, the Reason Stolas is the 1% where I am ok with Cheating.
Forced into a Marriage that he never wanted, the Wife that hates & abuses him.

    • @Djorgal
      @Djorgal Місяць тому +9

And the fact that she never trusted him. Cheating on your partner is an extreme breach of trust. As he said, even though it's an arranged marriage that he never wanted, he'd still feel bad if he'd hurt her.

      Agreed.
That's the case where cheating is a strictly legal issue. And I think Stella is more concerned about the damage this could do to her reputation as a noble (i.e. defamation).

    • @jimballard1186
      @jimballard1186 Місяць тому

My only counterargument is, Stolas didn't just cheat on Stella. He cheated on Octavia too. But even so, I can't be mad at him, because by my own logic, Stella has been cruel and abusive toward Octavia because she was that way to Stolas, so it still feels like Stella's the one in the wrong.

    • @SickSomno
      @SickSomno Місяць тому +3

      @@jimballard1186 The fact that Octavia blames Stolas for "making home not feel like home anymore" and says he ruined it only reinforces that he did everything in his power to make sure Octavia was unaffected by the dysfunctional their marriage was to begin with. This behavior has been going on for years and Octavia only thinks that her father fucked up by cheating recently. Go dad T_T;

    • @SickSomno
      @SickSomno Місяць тому +2

He was also forced into a straight marriage for the purpose of procreation despite him not being straight.
Also Octavia was birthed to be a potential successor to Stolas' position not Stellas'. Stolas 100% gets custody.
EDIT: Owls are also known for only falling in love once in their lives. So the childhood introduction probably sealed the deal.

For me, if the marriage was arranged and your partner is hurting you emotionally and physically. Then yeah... go ahead and try to find your happiness. Like, I wouldn't even consider it cheating. For me, cheating is when you hurt someone by not caring for them and going behind their back. Stolas told her instantly afterward and promptly asked for divorce. Which I think was the right move. He wants to divorce. And divorce is his right.

    • @SilverScribe85

Most arranged marriages are like that.
Just look at half of Henry VIII's marriages

  • @FlybyStardancer
    @FlybyStardancer Місяць тому +12

If you do the math, with Octavia being 17 and their reunion being 25 years after their first meeting, and assume Stolas was 18 when he and Stella married and had Via… (a valid assumption given that the team is very against sexualizing 17yo Via.) The youngest Stolas could have been in the first segment was 10-11. And he couldn’t have been much older than that given how small and clearly prepubescent he was.
Bryce was crying in the booth when he recorded “Stolas Sings”. 😭
Also the scene when they’re younger sets up both how Blitzø knew the grimoire would be able to get him to the living world, as well as why he thought he could get away with stealing from a Goetia.
And as others have pointed out-only that first time could be called “cheating” and that is stretching it. There was never any trust for him to break with Stella, it had been spur-of-the-moment, and he immediately requested a divorce. None of the rest of his meetings with Blitzø were done behind her back and their marriage was effectively (though not legally) done at that point. Now all that’s left is the fallout.
And man, both Stolas and Blitzø got absolutely stupidly WASTED after Ozzie’s. 😭
One detail I find amusing is that the hellhound on the left who brings Blitzø to Stolas after catching him breaking in? His tail is wagging excitedly when they’re showing off their catch, only to slump dejectedly when Stolas says he’ll take care of Blitzø. So cute!!

Stolas and his dad have the same cute hooting laugh and gleeful clapping while watching the circus they've dragged their miserable kid to. Stolas would be horrified if he realized the parallel, but tbh he's not good at self-reflection.
I felt like I understood Blitzo SO much more after this episode. If Angel had to become the sort of person who could survive Valentino, then Blitzo had to become the sort of person who could survive his dad's circus. A hardened performer who keeps going and acts confident even when he screws up and no one buys the act, and bounces back fast from anything because there's always another show to do. And of course there's that lovely perspective hammered in by his dad that family is for helping and everyone else is a mark to fleece.
Stolas's dad smacks him for bowing to Blitzo, and then grown-up Stolas bows to him deliberately when they part in "Ozzie's".
Not only was Stolas married against his will very young, but he told Stella he wanted a divorce the morning after he fell into bed with Blitzo. She's the one who insisted on staying, out of malice and no doubt greed. So while he's certainly made a bunch of mistakes and is imperfect, I don't think he can be reasonably faulted for cheating in the circumstances.

Stolas' father is Paimon, a King among the Goetia. He's one of the most powerful demons who is not a sin. When you first met him on his throne, you can see he's a shapeshifter. I assume his children take one of his forms.

Its really heartbreaking how both times they meet Blitzo has an ulterior motive for engaging with Stolas.
Also, the translation of the book basically explains how Asmodeus crystals are used by succubi and incubus to travel to the living world.

  • @claritale_

This cheating is 100% justified, cheating is betrayal, but there is no trust to break in this case for it to be a betrayal, they never loved each other and do not care about each other and they both know it very well, a piece of paper saying you're together does not mean you're together, they never were, they were just forced to so they can have a child and that's it. This is nowhere near cheating. Honestly, if you heard someone say "He cheated on his abuser, that's a bad thing, he is in the wrong for that" wouldn't you be furious??
Besides that lovely reaction, I was giggling when you couldn't handle the kids' cuteness, haha, same. Btw, some things in this episode are direct parallels of some things Stolas and Blitz did in previous episodes, one that stood out to me is how Stolas acted the same way as his dad when watching the circus show in episode 2 (the expression, the laugh and the clapping).

Jonathan Freeman as both Stolas and Blitzys dad.

I understand being cheated on, I really do... but I'm sorry, Stella is absolutely abusive and what Stolas is doing is literal, genuine *disassociation*. The song is called “Stolas Sings” because it adds lyrics to Stolas’s instrumental theme that first plays in episode one during his phone call with Blitz- the instrumental track was called “Stolas Speaks.” If you listen to the backing track it also plays when Stolas rescues IMP from the DHORKS, and the “sparks in the dark” underscoring plays when the baby boys are laughing under the chandelier in the flashback. I think this is my fav ep of the series! I look forward to your reaction to the next one!

I was waiting for your reaction to this episode with so much impatience! I was not disappointed!
You get why so many people like Stolas now xD
Worse, "now" probably isn't the morning after but I suspect it's Monday morning when Ozzie's happened on Friday evening, because IMP worked that day, but when Stolas invite Blitz inside, he says Via is out with her mother for the week end. So yeah, Stolas spent the whole week end crying and drinking.
    I wasn't well either when I realized that ^^'
Next episode isn't that bad, I promise!

    Trivia:
From this episode onward, the SpindleHorse logo at the end of every episodes' end credits now has an animated sequence.
This episode has scenes shown in animatics and storyboards from the 2022 trailer, to which some shots were completed and improved.
This marks the first episode for neither Moxxie nor Millie to appear or be mentioned in Season 2.
It is also the first episode for Loona to not make an on-screen appearance in Season 2 and it also marks the first time where she isn't heard or mentioned at all.
Based on the flashback at the beginning and the time skip, Stolas would be in his 30s.
Per the revelation that Octavia is 17 years old at the time of the series proper, this suggests that she was born when Stolas was either in his late teens or early twenties.
Octavia's age was first revealed in the non-canon Voxtagram post by Stolas on August 2020.
It is revealed that Stolas and Stella were arranged to be married since childhood, and have been engaged to each other ever since, up until their marriage.
As of this episode onwards, Stolas has initiated a divorce from Stella.
It is revealed that Stolas and Blitzo were childhood friends and that the former had
developed a crush on the latter since he first met him on the same day he was betrothed to Stella.
Before being given to Stolas, Paimon's mansion used to have his goetic seal on one of its outer walls.
The family's former butler, Mister Butler, had white splotches on his left eye resembling a monocle.
Paimon reveals that he has several other children besides Stolas, which leads the former to forget their names, or at the very least, Stolas'.
After being reminded of Stolas' name by Mister Butler, Paimon refers to the former as "the owl boy", insinuating that his other children are of other bird-like breeds or different animals, entirely.
The instrumental used during the montage of Blitzo and Stolas playing treasure hunt is a xylophone cover of Blitzo's usual theme.
It is revealed that the heart-skull marking on Blitzo's forehead is present on all the performers at the circus, being presented as like the symbol of that circus.
Young Blitzo's tragic story for his balloon horse, Worm Horse, may be a subtle parallel to Fizzarolli's current state of an amputee with artificial limbs.
It is revealed that Stolas takes Belphegor-branded "Happy Pills" in his adult-hood.
This is fitting, as Belphegor being the Prince of Sloth works well with the intended effects of
the medicine - a means to tone down the consumer's stress.
The page on the book that Stolas stops at during his song, "The King of Lust - Asmodeus", is on "Asmodean Crystals" written in Nordic runes, which translates as:
"Bestowed to mainly Succubi and Incubi by the Sin of Lust, these crystals allow access to the mortal realm.
Any Hellborn in possession of a registered crystal may be granted portal summons.
It is common practice to have the crystal paired with another object for convenience.
Jewelry is the most popular option.
writing in Runes shit was fun at first, but I know I am def not doing it right, OK, I should be spending more time with my friends and family."
Blitzo taking an interest in murder and violence and starting his own business as a result is foreshadowed by his dialogue of finding blood "cool".
One of the names young Blitzo suggests for his future horse to have is "Stapler", which is first mentioned in a post from his non-canon Voxtagram account.
This episode aired the day after Richard Horvitz's 56th birthday.
    Cultural References:
Stolas' plush jackalope is based on Max from Sam & Max.
The twin imps in the circus audience are modeled after the Grady twins from The Shining.
One of the books Stolas owned as a kid is a reference to the Frog and Toad book series.
Stolas' Hellhound bodyguards may be a reference to the agents, Mr. Black and Mr. White from the Johnny Test franchise.
Blitzo and Stolas meeting as kids could be a reference to Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper.
    Continuity:
The morning after Stolas wakes up from a night of sex and Blitzo runs off with the grimoire after apologizing to Stella for having done it "real fast" with her husband is a continuation of
the scene from pilot from Stolas' point of view.
This episode is a direct continuation of "Ozzie's".
Stolas mentions that Stella had started taking Octavia with her for the weekends and was not just for that particular weekend, following up his statement from the latter episode.
The same instrumental used during the introduction of the beach in "Spring Broken" is briefly used after the scene where Stella tells Stolas that he could come to her Not Divorced party if he wanted.
Stolas' censored vulgar remarks of what he wants Blitzo to do to him make a comeback in this episode.
Paimon taking a young Stolas to the local circus parallels the latter taking his own daughter to a circus several years later in "Loo Loo Land".
An extended version of the instrumental used during the end credits of "Ozzie's" is used from the chandelier scene up until the beginning of the scene where the young Blitzo and Stolas were hanging out under a big tree, where it blends into the instrumental for "Stolas Sings".
Blitzo first brings up how the "o" in his name is now silent during the second flashback.
It is also revealed that this was the first time Stolas refers to him as such, and not during the previous episode.
    Errors:
Fizzarolli's tail is missing during the scene where he makes a balloon horse.
Fizzarolli disappears during the entirety of Blitzo's solo act.
The ball Blitzo was performing on disappears during his solo act and reappears on the next scene.
Blitzo's shoes briefly turn from heeled to flat ones as he lands on the ball.
When Paimon pats a young Stolas' head, his hand looks as if it is patting a rounded surface rather than having Stolas' crown underneath.
Blitzo's horns alternate from having smooth curves to edged curves throughout the episode.
Mister Butler's horns go from being in front of his hair to sprouting from in-between his hair
during the scene where he opens the door leading to Paimon's room.
During the scene where Stolas is drinking at the Not Divorced Party, his wine is near-empty.
But, after the scene following Stella's dialogue to her friends, his glass is back to half full.
The wine glass Stella throws out the window in the same flashback is also empty, but when it hits the window, it left a huge splash stain of wine.
When Blitzo dips Stolas from the sliding ladder attempting to seduce him for the grimoire, one shot shows his arm is positioned behind Stolas. Then, in a second shot, his arm is positioned in front of Stolas.
Young Blitzo briefly alternates from having three and four fingers during the scene where he explains how playing pirates work.

what I find most interesting in this episode is the parallels between young Stolas and Octavia and older Stolas and his dad as well as the subtle differences. Stolas's dad takes Stolas to the circus to cheer young Stolas up and enjoys the circus more than Stolas himself. similarly how, in Lulu Land, Octavia hates it in Lulu land, and again, Stolas enjoys it more than her. However, there are differences where as Stolas's dad never was physically there with Stolas Stolas actually goes with Octavia and unlike his dad Stolas does eventually notice Octavia is upset whereas Stolas' dad only noticed what Stolas enjoyed. There's also the parallel that young Stolas and Octavia did enjoy parts of the circus but circumstances from enjoying more of it in Stolas case, his future marriage and Octavia the fact her parent's marriage is falling apart. Just some interesting parallels I noticed

I was treated like Blitz treats Stolas in every relationship until my current one. My bf introduced me to Viv's series and he told me to specifically watch the end of season 1 and this episode right before he came over and when he got there I was so angry, asking why he would make me watch a show that mirrored so much of my relationship trauma.... but we talked the whole night about all of it and in the end it was very healing. Especially seeing it from Blitz's perspective. I know some of my exes loved me, they were just too broken to do anything except hurt both of us....
Anyways, I know this episode particularly means a lot to many in the fandom... it's so beautifully sad

21:54 As if yes, but still? It’s not that Stolas is 100% at fault. Of course not... I'm just sure that she insults him not because she just doesn't like him in appearance. She's mad at him because he wouldn't give her anything in marriage, He just made sure that Octavia was born and that’s it (in the photo in episode 2 you can see that they were all happy when Octavia was still a child). Then the marriage got worse, obviously because Stolas is gay, and Stella, maybe under pressure from her noble circle, began to take out her anger on Stolas.
All this, of course, does not justify her abusiveness, for example. It’s just that Stella didn’t choose Stolas either, and she still wasn’t the first to cheat, especially with imp. The problem is basically all this forced marriage situation

Indeed, she has a gross personality, but on the other hand, she is also a victim of arranged marriage. Her actions look like psychological self-defense. When Stolas told her to get out, for a second, she seemed to be really upset. Maybe deep in her heart, she had feelings for him...

I agree with the "understandable but not excusable" stance on many things Stolas did such as the cheating and the arguably toxic arrangement/relationship with Blitz. Some people have taken the development of Stolas' back story as somehow excusing his every behivor and "gaslighting the fandom into victim-blaming Blitz". Some still go further to claim that Stolas and Blitz are no different from Angle and Valentino, how someone can be so blind to the differences between these two relationships is beyond me. At the end of the day, both Blitz and Stolas are complex characters that had tragic trauma in the past that makes their actions understandable and their characters relatable, but those past traumas are still no excuse for their behavior in the present and they need to correct their wrongs. The transactional relationship is definitely problematic and it is up to them to realize that and correct it. The subtle character development so far does hint at them slowly realizing their problems. Personally, I hope Blitz and Stolas can work though the problem and end with a healthy loving relationship.

so i notice you don't mention Stella whatsoever.
So what you're saying is Stolas should stay in a relationship where his wife clearly both mentally and physically abuses him? You should probably be on some sort of list if thats your thought process....

@@vegvisir9276 I never said Stolas should remain in the clearly abusive relationship with Stella.
