    Using multiple sizing dies is an excellent idea. I do the same thing on a single stage by sizing and rotating the case for a total of 3 resizing strokes. Allowing the press to dwell at the top of the stroke also insures the brass has time to move and take a set.

    Die sets usually come with a factory crimp die that will properly crimp the round. When you buy the press it will come setup for one caliber, including dies which also has a factory crimp die. I use Lee carbide dies for pistol and the kit comes with a factory crimp die. To add an extra caliber to the 1050 (say .40 cal) you need at minimum the $120 caliber conversion kit which includes shell plate and parts to adapt the case feeder.

    Excellent video Sir. I just recently added a Mr. Bullet Feeder and Dillon RT 1200 to my XL 650, and I am extremely happy with the results. I also "prep" my brass separately. I have my 650 set up for ,223 and I intend to add a .308 set up when the funds become available. I had 500 brass cases of .308 to process, so I set up the RT 1200 on my single stage Lee and it worked like a charm. What I didn't understand, (due to my severe hearing disability), is why you resize the brass 3 times? I have only resized mine once and they drop in and out of my case gauge OK. I even chambered a few dummy rounds in my Weatherby and they fed flawlessly. What am I missing?
    Thanks in advance for taking time to share your knowledge and video!

    In addition to the caliber conversion kit I also have a separate tool head (the part that goes up/down that the dies live in) and power hopper dispenser. That way once your dies are setup you don't have to change or set them up again. Both these parts come in a $270 quick change kit. Plus, after buying both the $120 + $270 kits you need to buy the die set that will run around $50. The Lee carbide die set will be cheaper but works just fine. /John

    The 1050 machine with bullet feeder and separate RT1200 trimmer will all cost around $2600 usd. Putting the trimmer on a separate (backup) dedicated press (for trimming only) enables you to not have to change anything when switching between trimming or loading. Thanks /John

    I still use the Lee for trimming 223 and if I ever have to load 9mm or 45acp. The Dillon's are for 40 cal and 223 only, and I change the 1050 over to 45 acp for 2 months a year: Dec & Jan. /John

    I see this is an older video so I'm not sure if you are wet tumbling your brass or not. I highly recommend wet tumbling after removing the primer to clean the primer pockets. I load on a Dillon 650 and I get a more consistent primer seat with the clean primer pockets. I don't think that cleaning the pockets has anything to do with accuracy just helps me seat the primers without the occasional crunch and they are always seated to depth. If you are interested in wet tumbling I can highly recommend the Frankford Arsenal tumbler and if you search around you can pick them up for around $150, somebody's always running a sale somewhere. My procedure for 5.56 is to remove the primer with a lee primer die, they are the toughest and can handle the crimped primer pockets. Then the next station I resize the brass then trim like you do. I then wet tumble and remove the crimp and debur the flash hole. Next I change out my toolhead and load the cartridges. This system has served me well for loading match quality rounds for competition with my AR-15, M1A, and my M1 Garand.

    Does that come as a complete unit with the press? If not, then what are all the parts that are needed? Thanks!

  • @bearing01
    @bearing01  11 років тому

    1. I got the bullet feeder from the double alpha website. 2. After you resize you need to trim. Resizing stretches the brass. I resize and trim before hand and therefore it doesn't have to be done again. I therefore don't use the 1st stage of the press (to resize) when I reload. /John

    I saw the earlier post stating a cost of $2600 for the press setup, if you don't mind me asking what is your best guess estimate for a complete Dillion setup for 556 and pistol 40cal? And is there a dye to put the mil spec crimp back on reloaded round/cartridge ? And thanks for the video, with the price and availability of ammo these days I will have to resort to reloading however I one who concentrates on precision more so than quantity

    Would they all fit on the XL650?

    Hey John, great job. We just stepped up from our Lee to a Dillon. Thought about the 1050, but liked the lifetime warranty on the XL650. Did you shoot Florida? Maybe we'll get to squad up this season.

    Did you say the RT1200 is a resizing? or did you mean trimming to length? I am NEW (never done it) to reloading and trying to buy an all in one system, if I can deprime , size, and trim all in one station that would be amazing.

    • @knownknot
      @knownknot 6 років тому

      The Dillon RT 1200 / 1500 case trimmers use a Full Length sizing die , that resizes & trims to length .

    hey man. Looking for work. What Kind of volume do you do? I ask because the shop I work in has a vary large vibratory, polishing and deburring machine big enough to fit some gun barrels into. We are not in the reloading business but we need to keep this machine running to make money. Right now it's used for steal rings. It could do about 3 to 4 cubic feet of product at a time.
    If you do enough business that this would be an asset, let me know. We are in southern Utah.

    Wow John, you have come a long way since the Lee Loadmaster days. Trying to make that thing work right about drove me crazy. The Dillon 1050 is a nice press and you have this down to a science. What kind of bullet and case feeders are you using; are they your own or another brand?

    compared to a dillon 650 how complicated is changing from one to an other caliber?
    here in germany the 1050 is very rare, most people using the 650 because they say its much easier to change the calibers...

  • @josephcastellan487

    Wow what die is that the one that removes the military crimp? Let me know plz thanks

    • @bearing01
      @bearing01  7 років тому

      The crimp or swager station is a feature of the Dillion 1050 press. The die has a rod in it which presses on the inside of the case head to keep it firm against the rotating plate. The underside of the press has a rod that moves up/down as the press cycles. That rod moves up and forces into the primer hole as the die supports the case from the inside. /John

    why would you resize twice working brass to much , just have a swage on press do it while everything else , use wet tumbling with steel pins it will debur and clean primer picket also , OKAY now I need your help , so if you only need to set primer drop powder , set bullet and crimp , YOU DO NOT NEED LUBE RIGHT , IF SO I UNDERSTAND YOUR METHOD AND I LIKE. , thanks that was a very helpful video it cleared a few things up about this press ,
