GSI Bullet Feeder System on Dillon XL 650

  • Check out my new GSI Bullet Feeder, I no longer need to manually place bullets on each case. The nice thing about the GSI unit is that it automatically delivers a bullet to the seating station, plus I still keep my powder check and crimping stations separate on my Dillon XL 650. This was the biggest feature for me personally.
    In this video , I show you the entire setup conversion, and run a few 9mm rounds as well.
    Where I got mine...the company website:
    www.gsiinternat...
    www.gsiinternat...
    The best $500 you'll invest into your reloading system.
    I found that now my full attention can be on seating the primer properly and checking the powder in each case, which are the two single most important things when reloading. And obviously the ability to run 3 times faster means more time at the range.

    Great bullet feeder but in switching over your dies to the GSI feeder toolhead you should set up the dies as you would have in even a new Dillon toolhead because you are assuming that the GSI toolhead is machined to exactly the same height and thickness as the Dillon toolhead is. It doesn't take a lot of time but it ensures that you are precise with all the die settings.

    Nice set up but you should only tighten the lock ring with a case in the die holding it perfectly concentric. I would also take the 5 minutes to reset my dies.

    The GSI web site shows the GSI bullet feeder directly mounted on the XL650. You have yours mounted on a separate post. Why the difference?

    How is that working for you the past 6 years? How does that compare with the modern mr bullet feeder? what kind of casings are you using? are those the SS3? Do they need a special Dies?

    butlerbobby, asked: The GSI web site shows the GSI bullet feeder directly mounted on the XL650. You have yours mounted on a separate post. Why the difference?
    Answer: They haven't updated there website with new photos, anything shipped after April 2014 will have the post as shown in my video above. Except it ships in the color Black, I painted mine blue.

    • @brassmen7464
      @brassmen7464  9 років тому

      The reason actually, they told me is the weight of having the bullet feeder directly on the toolhead gave them problems so they changed the design. :)

    Great info!.. One question though. I was just looking on the web site to purchase one and one of the menu items is the grain of bullet. The problem with this I press anything from 115 to 147 grain depending if I am making rounds for my Kimber1911, Glock 19 or my Kel TeK ( all 9mm). How have you handled that? I don't want to by something that restricts me to one particular grain or have to invest in multiple setups.

    @brassmen7464 Are you still using your GSI bullet feeder? I purchased mine around 2011-2013, maybe 2014. It never worked that great. They quit selling them and wouldn't provide any support. Not even look at a video and tell you what was wrong. Wasted money and got screwed by them. Sort of self-inflicted. When I bought it Mr Bullet Feeder was out but I thought since the owner of GSI had been at Dillon something like 17 years, it would be good to go. I should have bought the Mr Bullet Feeder.

      Hi rdsii64, I believe they only have bullet feeders for HandGun loads. I don't think you want to load Rifle rounds this quick?? Check out there site: www.gsiinternational.com/Bullet-Feeder-Conversion-Kits_8_4237.html
      You can call them, talk with Bowe, in customer service.

  • @albertgutierrez7036
    @albertgutierrez7036 8 років тому

    That's cool in all but if you don't shoot as much as that machine cost you properly don't need it but if you load your own and never buy factory then this is justified, and how is this when you load different pistol rounds and center fire rifle rounds is this bullet feeder universal or do you need to by different ones for each caliber.

    • @havefunletsauction
      @havefunletsauction 8 років тому +1

      The Dillon case feeder has four plates that are necessary based on the caliber that is being reloaded. These plates cost about $40 each (small pistol, large pistol, small rifle, large rifle).

      HaveFunLetsAuction is it possible to have the powder safety powder system along with the Dillon bullet feeder ?

    • @havefunletsauction
      @havefunletsauction 8 років тому +1

      Yes, the tool head has a separate station for the powder check die & the bullet feed die allowing both to function as needed.

    • @havefunletsauction
      @havefunletsauction 8 років тому

      I paid for my press after reloading about 6,000 9mm rounds. I reload 9mm & 223 so I actually broke even sooner. A general rule of thumb is that you can save about 50% of the retail costs by reloading. Reloading is a hobby in itself which pays back savings benefits.

    • @albertgutierrez7036

      HaveFunLetsAuction thanks I actually went red and after months of just headaches with it I finally figured it out and the press finally paid for itself but thanks for the replies.

    can you use lead bullet with this unit

    • @havefunletsauction
      @havefunletsauction 8 років тому

      Yes lead bullets sized to the appropriate caliber work. As long as the projectile is the proper caliber size there are no problem limitations. Each caliber to be reloaded must have the required correctly sized reloading dies.
