WOW! This isn't your mother's FSX any more! This is where MSFS really shines! Aircraft like this one paired with the fantastic scenery. Much better than staring at a magenta line for hours. Which I did myself for years in sims.
Haha, very true!! I think a lot of people have been converted to some good ol’ VFR flying with the advent of MSFS. It’s the first sim we’ve had where touring the scenery has genuinely been worth it / of interest (without addons required). I used to love my commercial jets in the sim when I was younger, but once that became the day job I really switched my simming habits. For the most part now, I much prefer this sort of flying in the sim! : )
I have been flying airliners in the sim for years as well and I must say that I am currently truly enjoying VFR flights in the sim in most cases not even using the autopilot cause it's more fun to fly by myself.
It’s great that MSFS is bringing everyone back to the roots of flying! Jets can be a very rewarding experience to learn, but they often don’t offer the most engaging experience. In MSFS it’s also a genuinely interesting world to explore. We’ve never really truly had that before in flight simulation (on a global scale) : )
Yeah. Initially I was actually a little disappointed to see it had modern avionics. I always like flying crude aircraft in the sim, but the Waco very quickly grew on me! There’s something quite interesting about taking an old design and modernising it. Personally I think I’d still rather have had a Tiger Moth or Stearman, something of that nature, but I’m happy with the Waco for now : ) As you say, I really feel like Carenado have done a lot to repair their reputation since coming to MSFS. They’re still letting bugs slip through (more so on the Waco than the others), but they do seem to get them fixed and overall they are making some lovely products!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Haha!! I feel your pain, however i have been around a few vintage warbirds, and as ive found in the T6 Harvard like many others is that nearly everything in there is modernised; GPS systems, nav aids the lot...... the last time i checked the vampire jet even had a gps in, the one that hangs around coventry most of the time! So you cant escape it anymore That shark tooth mustang that you see at duxford G-SHWN has got a full glass cockpit g1000 equipped 😂 Bloody blasphemy i say XD *And ive spoke to a few chaps who have flown warbirds long distances and it wouldve been an absolute pain doing ADFs VORs and all of that stuff😂😂😂
I can forgive fitting the odd navaid here and there. I could even forgive a little portable GPS (why not make life easy?). BUT. . . . a G1000. . . . in a MUSTANG?? That’s an outrage!! Haha To each their own I suppose, but I could never imagine doing such a thing. G1000s are great, but they have absolutely zero soul : P
Carenado has been around for a very long time. They are good for now, but once the real aircraft addons start coming out you will easily notice their shortcomings. They make some excellent looking models, but their systems and flight models have always lacked.
Indeed Jerry! I’ve always been pretty happy with my GA Carenado purchases, things tend to start falling apart a bit once they try modelling more complex aircraft / systems though. Again, so far I’ve been (mostly) very happy with their MSFS releases. Whether that continues, we’ll just have to wait and see. . . All the best
Thanks for a FANTASTIC rewiev. The part in the Atlas mountains is about the best UA-cam I have seen ever. Music from Wind and Lion movie written by Jerry Goldsmith I think. Highly emotional and beautiful.
Thanks very much, very high praise indeed!! The beauty of the aircraft and the scenery certainly made my job easy, but I’m really glad you enjoyed it : )
Indeed! Carenado did a really good job. Especially post-patch, where they seem to have fixed most of the issues I had with the aircraft. A really beautiful aircraft and a joy to fly! : )
Great review. Two things I can add: There are no icing effects on this plane. Flew through clouds and mist at very low temperatures for hours. No icing visible. Same with rain. No drops visible on the plane and the rain seems to be falling "through" the windshild... ;o)
@@CCitis Cool thank you for that information. Than the lack of icing was on MSFS. Sometimes there is just no icing why so ever. Good to know there can be icing. ;o)
Ah ok, thanks for the info. I see icing has been discussed. Haven’t had a chance to try rain yet. That’s a shame if it doesn’t show on the windshield, the rain effects are great in the sim generally. I guess you wouldn’t want to fly this thing in the rain haha, but still! : )
Icing is pretty hit and miss in the sim currently. Sometimes it’s way overdone as well. Still, I’m glad it’s a feature, hopefully they will refine it : )
One neat trick with this plane is that arrow keys (while in the cabin) will move outside the walls of the cabin. You can sit out on the wing, or above/below the cabin, etc. and then slide right back into the cabin. Also, I did just get iced pretty quickly and badly in Boston. No anti-ice measures available. Also, it is almost impossible to keep on the runway during take-off and landing when only on two wheels. It jerks left and right and I can't figure out why.
Yes, the takeoff in particular is a real handful. I think it’s just a flight model issue that needs fixing unfortunately. You can mitigate it somewhat by putting 200lbs of baggage in the rear (via the fuel and load menu) and using full up elevator during the majority of the takeoff. The aft loading also helps a lot with the landing. Hehe, yeah, you definitely don’t want to into ice in this baby! I imagine with all those struts and braces etc she’d ice up and then fly like a brick. Yes, I noticed the same re being able to move around. Sounds like it could be a good opportunity to do some virtual wing walking! : P
Cheers Zach, glad you enjoyed it! My graphics settings are as such: - “High End” preset - Pre-Cache = Ultra - Terrain and Object visibility sliders set at 125% (sorry, I forget the actual names of them) - Motion Blur = Off - Glass Cockpit Refresh = Medium - AI Traffic = Off - VSync = On / 60fps That gives a nice balance between graphics and performance. I only run at 1080p. The things I’ve turned off / down are known to be famerate hogs. As far as the Nvidia Control Panel goes: All pretty default there, except for "Power Management = Prefer Maximum Performance". I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
Haha indeed, always something! They don’t seem to have quite broken that habit yet, but overall I’ve been happy with their MSFS products so far. The flight model is the only really concerning thing, the rest should be simple enough fixes in a patch, fingers crossed : )
Really nice review. As a previous military and airline pilot, I appreciate your style and professional delivery. Your checklist usage and demeanor are a fine example to aviators, real or simulated. "Clear prop," "check final." You take simulation seriously. I appreciate that. As for the Waco, your spot on. I have the P3D version and now the MFS version. The plane looks much more realistic in MFS. The textures and graphics are much improved over P3D. Taking off in P3Dv4.5 is much more realistic. The torque and P-Factor are more gradual and can be countered with rudder as one would expect. It's not a "digital" experience in P3D. The oil temp, oil pressure, CHT and EGT all respond appropriately to throttle movement in P3D and the Heading Bug also works. This is a beautiful rendition of the YMF-5. Hopefully Carenado will post an update soon. Thanks for the great review!
Thanks very much for the positive feedback, very much appreciated! Yes a few of the bugs (the heading bug in particular - how does something like that get through testing?) were a little bit disappointing to see, but I’m sure they will be fixed. As for the flight model, I’m not sure if the blame lies with Carenado or Asobo for that one. As someone else pointed out, perhaps this was the best Carenado could manage with the current SDK. The theory seems to have some weight, as clearly Carenado have managed better flight models in the past. Either way, I hope it’s fixed. It’s a shame to hamstring such a pretty aircraft with such an issue. What were you flying previously? (completely understand if you’d rather not say) Thanks again and all the best : )
I agree. Whether Carenado or Asobo, I really hope these issues are resolved. It would be nice if Carenado would speak to the issue like Indiafoxtecho. They acknowledge the planes shortcomings, describe the reason, and provide info on what can be done to fix it. Regardless, the Waco is beautiful and fun to fly. As for my background, C-172, T-37, T-38, O-2, OV-10, F-15, T-37 & T-1A Instructor, E-3A, KC-135R, A-319/320 and B-777. I got my private in the Tomahawk and my ATP in the Seminole.
I think they will. I believe Carenado just updated the Seminole once again (or it’s imminent). I think they are releasing patches as / when the Asobo schedule allows. Wow, they kept you busy! Sounds amazing, a great mix of aircraft. I’m rather envious! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations That career path wasn’t by design. Cancer kind of changed my vector a few years in. Oh well that was years ago, I’m still here, and it did provide a pretty broad experience base.
Ah, I’m sorry to hear that. As you say though, the main thing is that you’re still here! As they say; “life is what happens when you’re making other plans”. Might not be quite the career path you would have chosen, but it still sounds like more than most of us could ever hope to achieve : ) Thanks for sharing, all the best!
Agree with others - like the cinematic part - I was thinking Indiana Jones. Its a lovely plane, looks so beautiful, shame about the couple of minor issues you highlight. Great review as always....thank you
Thanks very much Mark : ) I’m rather chuffed that the video evoked Indiana Jones for you, as that’s exactly what I was going for! Something about the aircraft just really gives off those vibes. . . Yeah, it’s a beautiful aircraft. Hopefully they can fix it up to a point where her functionality does her looks justice!
An excellent review. I subscribed. One very minor potential improvement, I wonder if possibly during the in-flight outside-view segments if there could be a less wide-angle view in order to reduce the distortion effect on the shape of the aircraft. I would expect in real air-to-air photography that the aircraft would be a reasonable distance apart so a super wide-angle lens would not be used, but I could be wrong. Again, a great aircraft review!
Hello Jim, thanks very much and welcome to the channel! : ) Really glad you enjoyed the video. That’s an interesting question you pose, one I’m afraid I don’t really know the answer to. I’m not actually sure whether or not this can be adjusted via the in-game camera controls. Certainly the wide angle was not something I purposefully set up myself. Personally I quite like the effect, but you’re right, it does warp some of the dimensions a bit. I will look into it! Thanks once again and all the best!
Well, that’s a little embarrassing haha! Right under my nose - I’ve no idea how I missed that at the time. . . Much more importantly though, it’s a pleasure to have you pass by my little “neck” of the UA-cam “woods”, Juan. I came across your channel quite recently and I’ve very much been enjoying the content; always informative and often your videos provide a stark reminder, of how important it is to teach, understand and remember the fundamentals. Cheers and all the best to you! : )
Thanks Peter! Indeed, definitely hoping we’ll see more aircraft like this coming to the sim in the future! As you say, sadly we can’t all have hangars filled with beautiful vintage aircraft, so this is the next best option : )
Thank you for another fun review - another part of the world to check out! BTW, I mapped "Toggle Tail Wheel Lock" to my Bravo and locking for t/o and landing definitely helps.
Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, definitely a trip worth making : ) That’s a great tip, as I noticed the cockpit control didn’t seem to be working. Thanks!
I have several hours of flight time as of this morning with this beautiful model. One small question is how do you pull up the Carenado "tablet" in order to set wheel chocks, cold and dark, etc.? Thank you. Jim
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank you for your quick response and yes...just before log off last night I found the "click spot" on the joystick. This old dog also enjoys the RC flight world as seen on my site. Thank you again. Jim
You’re most welcome! Ah, someone else mentioned RC aircraft. Seems the Waco is quite a popular choice for the hobby? I used to love going to RC airshows when I was younger, sadly haven’t been to one for many years now. . . Flying one of those things is a whole different skill in and of itself! : )
first of had an oppurtunity to be in an actual Waco and not a kit like this the view is Dodgy cause I guess in those days there wasn't many people flying at the time so looking out for others wasn't a piority and am glad this content is still here havn't flown the YMF in awhile so thought I would do a refresher course Thank You or as pilots say staying current
Ah lovely Mike, that must have been a very memorable flight (even if the design is a little dodgy by today’s standards haha)! It’s great to hear that the video was useful for getting you back into the Waco. Happy flying and all the best : )
that is a beautiful looking dashboard with all its brown walnut (probably wrong wood) rather like a vintage open top car...everything together so you can see them without having to remember to go in all directions to switch knobs off or on...if my patience gets normal and i ever decide to want to actually pilot a plane this is defiantly probably maybe the one i will do it in, like getting a new pair of glasses, they dont have to be the most modern style but they have to be the one that you feel comfortable in...great choice to use and great video...
Yeah, she’s a very pretty thing indeed! Both inside and out. Lovely for cruising around in but, buyer beware, she’s a real handful on takeoff and landing! Thanks as always Keith. All the best : )
Thanks very much, glad you liked it! : ) I don’t know that my aerobatics skills are up to much, but I do like the idea. I might make a short aerobatic sequence with the Waco for one of my Wednesday (more casual) videos. I’ll test out my skills / the aircraft and see if the idea is worth pursuing haha. The only issue I can foresee, is that a lack of replay function in the sim, would make filming anything other than cockpit footage a little tricky. Thanks for the suggestion!
Hello "Into the Blue Simulations"! I wanted to thank you for uploading such an amazing and great quality video! Flight simulators have definetely gone a long way and this looks super top!! I really enjoyed your video, a great simulated flight in a classic taildragger, keep it up! I hope to see more videos like this :-)
Thanks very much Harold! Really glad you enjoyed the video! Indeed, it’s incredible how far flight simulation has come (I myself started out in FS95)! I love flying all the more classic and interesting aircraft, so much more character! So you can definitely expect to see more videos like this in the future on the channel. Thanks once again and all the best! : )
Yeah, they're doing well. Releasing default-quality aircraft (or below?) with no checklists and asking for 1/3 of the sim's price. ;) You can't even see the compass properly lol. Excellent.
Yeah, I really feel like they’ve really upped their game since coming to MSFS. A few more bugs crept into this one than their previous efforts, hopefully they aren’t starting to get complacent again. For sure the aircraft needs a patch, but they seem to have been on top of that (more or less) with their other MSFS products. Lack of checklist was a little bit disappointing, no excuses for that. Haha, no worries totally understand. My pleasure as always. Cheers! : )
Hi David, Is “default quality” really a bad thing anymore though (genuine question)? Some of the default (GA) aircraft are very well done. It’s Carenado, the product is never going to be study level, but a lot of people aren’t necessarily looking for that. The bugs were disappointing, sure, but I expect they will be fixed. The flight model may be Carenados fault, but it may be that they are just hamstrung by the SDK. They’ve managed to model taildraggers better in the past. There’s no excuse for the lack of checklist though agreed. The product costs less than 20USD. You can’t buy very much of anything for that sort of price these days unfortunately. . .
@@davidtsw I agree the checklists should be implemented. I actually quite like the area of the market Carenado occupies, they’re keeping me interested, while others are working on more complex stuff.
Hello, Thanks for the reply ref the Catalina yes P3D Aerosoft mentioned out of interest, however I should have asked if you have the freeware Grumman Goose for MSFS, I have it and although by no means fully functioning it is possible to make cross country flights it’s great fun and also a challenge be interested in your views. Cheers for now Charlie
Hello again Charlie Yes, I have tried out the Goose for myself (I have created a little cinematic with it, taking it from Lydd to Le Touquet, if that’s of any interest to you). As you say, definitely still needs some work, but very promising so far and already great fun to fly! It will be great fun for exploring the MSFS world, as you can basically go anywhere. I definitely plan to do a proper flight with it at some point : )
Love this airplane for MSFS. Just a tip, when handling taildraggers on the ground we go full stick back and jab the rudder pedals. This seems to really help the ground handling characteristics of this Waco! Otherwise, like you said, it's a bit wonky!
Yes, it’s a beautiful aircraft, sounds lovely too! Thanks for the tip, that’s very much the conclusion I came to myself. The Waco has seen some improvements in its controllability since release, but almost every tailwheel aircraft benefits from full backstick initially on takeoff / landing in MSFS; gives you much more directional control. Cheers, all the best! : )
Someone else mentioned the same idea. I don’t know that my aerobatics skills are up to much, but I might try and cobble together a sequence for a short video at some point. I’ll do a practice run and see how I get on : )
Great video, thank you for the heads up on anticipating the violent left yaw, is it likely in your view that the bugs you identified will be fixed, would this be the developer or MSFS responsibility? I have not checked but wondering if compass can be seen better in night flying with panel lights illuminated. Cheers good job Charlie
Hello again Charlie, If I had to guess, I would expect that the more minor bugs will be fixed, but it could take some time. Carenado have provided patches to their earlier aircraft (it is their responsibility), but they have to go through Asobo. This process appears to be quite protracted it seems. As for the flight model (specifically on takeoff), I’m not sure whether this will be an easy fix. Someone else pointed out that this could be an issue with the sims current SDK. I don’t know whether that’s the case or not, but if it is, there’s probably no easy fix. A good point re the compass, of course I would like to be able to see it either way, but I suspect some panel lighting would indeed fix the issue. If you’re worried about bugs etc, might be worth holding off for now. See what gets fixed when a patch comes out. . . Haven’t forgotten about your other message by the way, just waiting till I have the time to reply properly : ) All the best!
Just a tip, when handling taildraggers on the ground we go full stick back and jab the rudder pedals. This seems to really help the ground handling characteristics of this Waco! Otherwise, like you said, it's a bit wonky!
I almost skipped this one because I don't have head tracking, and the cockpit looked a little occluded for someone without the ability to quickly adjust view. But my god, it's beautiful. There's no way I can not have this. Really need to bite the bullet and get TrackIR.
Haha, yeah, it’s a really lovely aircraft to look at! and pretty solid all-round after the recent update. There’s also just something about an open cockpit, even virtually. It would be a little bit trickier to fly / see without head-tracking for sure, but still manageable I would say. Have you tried any of the freeware head tracking alternatives? Might be worth looking into : )
Glad you’re enjoying it! : ) Takeoffs are a bit hair raising currently haha, but once you’re in the air she’s an absolute joy isn’t she! Hopefully we’ll see some bug fixes at some point, to get her in tip top shape. All the best
Hi Jarek, It’s been a while since this flight now, but if I recall from memory; pretty sure I wasn’t cruising with full power. I’d imagine I’d have had to have leaned the mixture at that altitude, but I can’t remember now honestly. I know at the time the EGT gauge was broken, so leaning accurately would have been hard at any rate. Any particular reason you wanted to know? : ) All the best
I really enjoy watching these MSFS videos from all the content providers. Right now, I need to build a new computer to run MSFS so I don't have this version. A couple of points. As you mentioned at the end, cruise fuel burn is 14-14.5 GPH. Waco does offer, as an option, a fuel injected version of the Jacob 755 engine, and it's very possible that this is what Carenado modeled. What is the control knob at the lower right of the panel, next to the fuel shut off valve? I don't have MSFS, let alone this airplane, but there is a 'Day/Night' switch in the row of lights. That might turn on your compass light, as well as the rheostat for the panel lights at the far left of the light switches. Did you check either one of those to see if the compass could be seen? There is also an amphibious version of the YMF-5. I would have loved to have seen Carenado model that! Imagine touching down on your favorite fishing spot. As a pilot who lost his medical, I really miss flying, and MSFS will never replace that loss, but as a diversion, it really appears to be a great game, and I commend Microsoft, Asobo Studios and providers like Carenado for stepping up to the plate to bring such realism to the platform. Oh, one more thing, the avionics in this model are completely outdated. The current model ships with two Garmin G5 indicators, the Garmin GMA-350 audio panel, a JPI-EDM 930 engine analyzer, two Garmin GTR-225 radios, a Garmin Aera 760 WAAS GPS and a GTX-345 ADS-B In/Out transponder.
Thanks very much for all the info! Yes, I was a little bit unsure which version they had modelled. For example, I couldn’t find any carb heat controls, but there is a carb temp gauge. A few other discrepancies like this left me a little confused. Just to the right of the fuel shutoff valve is the park brake : ) That’s a very good point about the compass / lighting. I didn’t think to try it at the time. That being said, you should still be able to see the compass in daylight conditions. . . Very sorry to hear about your medical. For sure MSFS won’t replace the real thing, but I think flight simulation can still be very enjoyable in its own right! : ) Thanks Gary!
It’s a device called TrackIR. It’s an infrared head-tracking device. It’s great, but quite pricey. There are freeware alternatives available as well though : )
Thank so much for your reply, I already purchased the by plane probably ahead of your good self, I am enjoying it especially once airborne! Have you any sim experience flying the Catalina in P3D V4or 5 at all?
My pleasure Charlie. Yeah, she’s a complete handful on the ground currently, but very enjoyable in the air! Your compass idea worked a treat as well, so thanks for that! : ) If you haven’t tried it already, loading up the aft baggage compartment helps considerably with the handling on the Waco as well. I haven’t tried the Catalina. Is that the Aerosoft one? Any particular reason you ask? I was tempted a couple of times, but never really saw that I’d get much use out of it in P3D. A Catalina would be perfect for MSFS though! A go-anywhere / see-anywhere aircraft.
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Hello again, Thought I would share the following, to improve stability on T/O agree load 75KG in rear most position, keep back pressure on stick/yoke to keep tail down as long as possible, next prior to all that go to ESC, options, assistance, piloting and enable "take off auto rudder" this is a tip from my friend Bert Pieke, so far this has been the easiest T/O and most stable, be interested if you test this as well. I still have yet to master landing but locking tail wheel (tricky as you don't know for sure if its enabled after selecting the assigned key) and landing as close to stall speed appears to be better, i am trying to master three point landing and again getting the tail down without creating lift! its difficult but will keep at it. Cheers Charlie
Yes, this very much mimics my own findings, I haven’t tried the auto-rudder, but ballast in the back and full-aft stick gets it to the point where I find takeoffs are manageable. Landings I actually don’t find too bad in the Waco, I was having problems with elevator authority, but again, the ballast corrected this. The CofG by default is way out of whack, so ballast makes sense. Hopefully they’ll correct the flight model at some point though. I had meant to pass this info on to you, but you beat me too it! Thanks very much : )
Hello, In The WACO YMF5 did you try the tweak I advised you about in that you change setting in Assistance - Piloting - turn on AUTO RUDDER? Makes for a real stable /straight T/C make sure you lock tail wheel when lined up. One other thing Carenado support (direct) got back to me and advised an update is to be available soon to stop the unstable T/O & Landing Roll Out. Cheers Charlie
I haven’t tried the auto rudder, as I found the aircraft reasonably manageable with the aforementioned adjustments (and I don’t want to have to change the setting between aircraft), but I very much appreciate the info. That’s great re the update and once again, thanks for the heads up! Good to see that Carenado are keeping relatively on top of things so far. Looking forward to some smoother takeoffs in the Waco soon then haha : ) All the best
@@IntotheBlueSimulations The update is now available. It help quite a bit but it is still not as easy to take off/land as other aircraft. The plane has a tendency to veer off the runway and the rudder is too sensitive but with a short take off, that you can put in the air quickly. Not sure if that's realistic.
Thanks very much for the info! Much appreciated : ) I’ve downloaded the update, ready to go. Haven’t had a chance to try it just yet though. Still, good to see Carenado were quick off the blocks with this one!
Hmm, good spot. Yeah, I think the fuel consumption needs tweaking. Probably by at least 1-2GPH in the cruise, not sure what fuel burn would be at full power. . .
Haha, I think the Waco is a very good excuse to purchase the sim! A real joy to fly around and explore the scenery in. Although it certainly has its issues / bugs, if you’re specifically looking to enjoy some GA / VFR flying, in my opinion, MSFS can’t be beat! : )
Decent video but FYI the pronunciation of the company name is a little different "WACO (referring to the aircraft) is usually pronounced "wah-co"[1] (the first syllable pronounced as in "water"), not "way-co" like Waco, Texas, whose name is entirely unrelated."
Damn. . . Haha I always try and figure these things out before a video, but of course it’s not always easy to google pronunciations. I could only find references to Waco Texas and took a punt that there might be some relation (apparently not). Even when I was watching the video back I thought to myself; “not to worry if I’ve got it wrong, I’ve only said it about 200 times throughout the video!” Ha. That’s unfortunate. . . : / Glad you liked the vid, although I’m sure that got annoying very quickly! Thanks for the info though : )
Haha, well I’ve suffered an atrocious VB hangover, been to a V8 Supercars race and been forced to sing Waltzing Matilda on more than one occasion. I think I’m basically entitled to Australian citizenship at this point? ; )
The aircraft model has improper CG. Look at it in the menu before you load into the sim. It is WAY far forward. This is why the takeoff is so squirrely, and you lose all elevator effectiveness at low speed. It is a bug
Yes! Thanks Jeremy. I did note that myself and meant to mention it in the video, but it slipped through the net. . . Certainly can’t be doing the flight model and favours!
I've just picked this up today. It's really excellent value I think. As an aside, it's frustrating that there's still a shortage of quality aircraft on the marketplace. As an Xbox user (and someone who is fairly serious about aviation) it's worrying that Microsoft are procrastinating, dragging their heels where quality is concerned (JustFlight keep getting messed around by MS/Asobo apparently) and yet there is unmitigated rubbish allowed on there. I'm sure you've seen it yourself. Frustrating. What are your own thoughts as a PC user (I presume) on the matter? Anyway, I digress. This is actually a fantastic plane. And great review. 👍
Completely agree Michael. Given that it’s a bit cheaper than other Carenado offerings, I think it’s excellent value for money. Has to be one of the most beautiful aircraft in the sim currently, both in terms of visuals and sound. The flight model is a touch soulless perhaps, but it flies nicely enough nonetheless. Funnily enough, I was having the same conversation with someone else. I’ve heard about the Just Flight saga and it’s laughable that Asobo / Microsoft are trying to claim that the aircraft currently has too many bugs to be released on the Marketplace. There is some absolute junk in there already. My personal view is that Asobo shouldn’t be curating the Marketplace, as we all have different wants / desires (some people quite enjoy the Bredok3D products for example, but they aren’t for me), but I do think they should implement a more comprehensive review system and perhaps even offer demo versions etc. I am on the PC, so obviously there is a bit more flexibility in terms of freeware, mods, 3rd party purchases etc (which helps), but there does still seem to be quite a lot of shoddy products coming out for the sim. Fortunately though, I think now that we have a few genuinely decent addons, the crappier addons are finding it harder and harder to gain much traction. I really can’t understand why there is seemingly an inverse correlation between the quality of a product and the amount of time it takes to be allowed onto the Marketplace though. . . My two pennies worth anyway haha. All the best Michael! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Yes mate, pretty much my own perspective too. Hopefully it'll be made a bit easier for developers to get their wares on there. I am eagerly anticipating the Just Flight aircraft appearing.
The manifold pressure gauge is way off when you shut down...it should go to ambient pressure and match the altimeter setting. There's no way the altimeter setting was 43.00+!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations After I bought it, I discovered that the panel light knob on the left panel will make the wet compass easier to read, but unfortunately, the wet compass doesn't work. Hopefully, they'll patch it and fix all the instruments so we can recreate Stephen Coonts' trip in Cannibal Queen, or Mikie McCafferty's trip around Europe in his YFM-5 "N250YM".
Yes, I found the same trick in the end, but thanks for the info! I didn’t notice any issues in terms of the compass not working, but I haven’t had a chance to thoroughly check it. Quite a few aircraft in MSFS seem to have issues with their compass. I wonder if there’s some fundamental coding problem. I recall, the CAP10 and I think the Caravan as well, having more than 360 degrees on their compass’ ha! Yes, I hope they get it fixed up, as I too would love to carry out some longer, epic journeys in the Waco! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations After a recheck, I found that the wet compass actually functions very nicely. I'd also had some issues with the HSI and that appears to have fixed itself, as well. I am glad I got it. It's quite nice to fly something that really requires full attention! Thanks for doing the review!
Maybe it just required a restart of the sim after installation or something then. Glad you got it sorted! Yeah, she’s a bit of a handful on the ground currently, but once you’re in the air it’s a very enjoyable experience : )
Been watching some videos of these and it does not seem at all that dramatic IRL... I bought this plane and its beautiful but the take offs and landings are just a nightmare, hope they can improve it to more reasonable levels of excitement. Right now its 80% chance of being undone...
No, I’m absolutely sure it’s not like that in reality. The flight model obviously needs some work. Whether that’s Carenado’s fault, or another issue with the sims SDK I’m not sure. It’s a real handful on takeoff and to some degree on landing as well. It’s a shame, it’s one of the bigger issues with the aircraft. A lot of the minor bugs I’m sure can / will get fixed, I don’t know how easy this one will be. They might just be better to remove the tendency altogether from the flight model for now. . . All the best
where is the manual located for this plane explaining it's features, etc? I'd love to explore all thats available for it (i bought it), but sadly I'm clueless as to where to find the info about it.
I’m afraid one of the big issues currently with the addon, is that it doesn’t really come with any documentation. . . You can access a very basic checklist from the iPad if that’s of any help, but providing documentation is definitely something Carenado need to sort out!
I’m not sure it is mentioned no. Certainly not in the verrrrry slim documentation Carenado provides. Their previous aircraft had the same feature, so I was expecting it to be there. . .
Ooo, definitely interested! Funnily enough I nearly suggested a trip this weekend, but I thought maybe you’d prefer Sunday again and that wouldn’t really have worked for me. What are the details? : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations We go from MPMG to MPEJ. We will follow the canal at low altitude. Take off starts at 22:30 GMT. West Europe server. I will take the xcub.
Thanks very much for organising the flight! : ) Was quite a spectacular route with the sunset and the weather as it was! Sorry, I had to dash after we landed. Did you guys continue on anywhere else?
@@IntotheBlueSimulations thanks for coming. We counted 20 people which was a record. After landing we just went to the airport across the canal, a quick 2min flight. It was fun, we will try to go again next week.
So obviously the SDK still sucks if publishers have to script in a yaw tendency at “x” speed to provide some form of realism. It’s a pitty it’s not a priority for devs when in reality if it’s not sorted it will cause users to ditch the sim
I didn’t think of it like that, but you may well be correct! Yes the SDK should absolutely be a priority. It should have been ready to go from day 1. Addon availability will ultimately make or break a flight sim.
Ah, ok, thanks very much! That’s strange though, I did have a quick look myself and nothing came up when I opened up the checklist window. . . Personally I’m not a fan of the interactive checklists and would rather have a “paper” copy included. I find it a bit more immersive that way. As long as there is something though, I guess that’s fair enough from Carenado. Thanks again : )
Ah right! Someone else said the same thing with the Mooney, but I never managed to find it. Would you mind telling me please, how exactly to bring it up?
Hmm, ok, thanks! I did try cycling through pages during my testing, but only found 2. I must have missed something, I’ll try again. Thanks very much! : )
No multi player sound with this aircraft like must 3rd party ones, so annoying is it so hard to implement, flying with something else with the same plane you just hear silence when they start up. I hope they change this immersion. Breaking for me I like flying in a group
Oh, is that so David?! That’s a real shame yes. Especially as the aircraft sounds really nice. I’m sure it will get fixed, but there’s no excuse for not having it work on release. . .
Great video. I would, however, like to offer one correction. It has to do with the pronunciation of the name "WACO." You are pronouncing it like Waco, Texas. This is not the case. Waco aircraft has nothing to do with Waco, Texas. WACO stands for Weaver Aircraft Corporation and is pronounced "wah-co" (the first syllable pronounced as in "water." Like many other companies, weaver aircraft company had many turns of fortune over the years. The name was changed several times but eventually returned to WACO Aircraft Corporation. The Weaver name came from one of the original founders, George E. “Buck” Weaver. I had the pleasure of getting my first airplane ride in a WACO UPF-7 before I went on to eventually get my commercial license. Once again, thank you for the great YMF-5 review.
Hello Richard, Thank you very much for the info! Alas, I became aware of this a little too late. I did try looking up the correct way to pronounce it, but all I could find was references to Waco Texas. I took a gamble and thought maybe they would be the same, apparently not haha. Rather annoying, since I think I say it wrong every few seconds in the vid : / Thanks for the correction, and even more so for the history behind it, very interesting! Glad you enjoyed the video (despite a Brit butchering the name continuously throughout)! All the best : )
Indeed, a few people have mentioned this. Unfortunately I had no decent reference at the time. I took a punt on it being pronounced the same as Waco Texas, but of course this turned out to be wrong. . . Somewhat annoying when I said it gosh knows how many times throughout the video haha. Thanks though
Correct, they certainly don’t seem to have much functionality. I think they do at least “reflect” broadly based on the colour palette around you at the time, so they aren’t too jarring. Would be nice to have an option to increase / reduce the definition though (whether in the sim or from Carenado).
the reflections in the game are SSR reflections (screen space reflections), they only show the visible objects in the screen, sadly is an game engine thing, the only way to improve the reflectios if is asobo implement some kind of raytrace reflectios, but that type of reflexion are quite expensive and take a bunch of resourses to show. i'm shure asobo dont use raytrace reflexion to do msfs more "light"
Thanks for the info Jose, very interesting. This sort of thing is something I know very little about. Personally the lack of a working mirror doesn’t really bother me, but I know it bothers some users. Personally I’d rather the save the FPS. The Carenado aircraft seem to broadly reflect the correct colour palette etc from the background, so the effect blends well enough in my opinion. Good to know though, thanks again : )
+1 Into the Blue Simulations - Great review!👍👍 I recently discovered this channel and have been enjoying your reviews so just subscribed. In fact I just now, mid-video, zoomed over to M$ Marketplace and bought a copy of this gorgeous aircraft. Now then, in this video you have committed a truly unforgivable sin to loyal Waco aircraft lovers. You pronounce Waco as _Way-co_ as in Waco, Texas. In fact, this beloved-by-many vintage aircraft and company is pronounced _Wah-co_ with a soft 'a'. Don't worry, it's a common mistake, even for Americans, and this mispronunciation has raised quite a few tempers at US fly-ins. Also, I've never flown a real Waco but surprised you're flying from the front passenger seat as most vintage bipes are flown solo from the rear cockpit. Also, I have a small suggestion I've noticed from watching your videos. Your pilot's eye view is always a bit too close to the instrument panel so blocks out most of the outside world zipping by. I realize you're reviewing the aircraft and want to show cockpit/instrument details but it's very unnatural. Anyway, food for thought. I look forward to your upcoming videos. Edit: My apologizes about the pilot's eye view being too close and about the solo cockpit. Just downloaded the Waco and geez it is claustrophobic. Couldn't move the seating position aft much at all before the seat and structure got in the way. And also didn't realize that the red livery's front cockpit is covered over with no windscreen. OUCH what an idiot (me that is)! Cheers from Thailand! 😁
Hi Jimbo, thanks very much indeed! Welcome aboard : ) Sorry for the slow reply, been busy most of this week and slowly working my way through all of my correspondence now. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the content and hopefully the Waco as well! Hahaha. Noooo. Waco has become the bain of my existence! : P Yeah, unfortunately at the time I wasn’t quite sure how it was pronounced and I took a 50 / 50 gamble (wrongly assuming that it might share something in common with Waco Texas). A bit of a pain, as I think I only said it wrong about 200 times throughout the review haha : / Thanks for the pointer though! Thanks for the edit to your message, saved my having to write a couple more paragraphs there ; ) To be fair though, it’s good food for thought as I’ve come to notice the same myself recently. I think in some videos I do have tendency to move the “seating position” a little too far forward. I’m always conscious that I don’t want the “ultra-wide fisheye” viewpoint that you often see in FS content, but I think on occasion I’ve taken it too far the other way (the Waco rather leaves you with no option though as you say ha). Anyway, thanks again for your thoughts, input and subscription! Hope you’re enjoying the Thai sunshine. All the best! : )
Carenado are brilliant model and texture makers, but they are bad flight model and avionics \ systems ... I am always tempted by their pretty visuals but not anymore, The only situation I'd buy Carenado today is if they team up with some serious addon maker and make the model and textures for them.
Hi beeplL, Personally, I don't think Carenado are nearly as bad as people make out (not these days anyway), but I also can't say that you're wrong. Typical MSFS Carenado products, haven't always been perfect on release (far from it), but have been patched up thereafter. They certainly aren't amazing products, but they don't tend to have any major significant flight modelling vices, or completely broken systems / avionics (as we often used to see). For the price, I think Carenado do an okay job at recreating the aircraft they release, given the target market I think they're aiming at. All that being said, I very much wish they wouldn't simply rest on their laurels and would put greater effort into aircraft systems / flight modelling! No doubt they make some of the best visual models in the hobby and I can't really understand why they wouldn't want to perfect all aspects of their products (I guess they're simply happy with the number of units they're selling). Someone told me that MILVIZ once reached out to Carenado for a collaboration and Carenado turned them down! I've no idea whether that's true, but no doubt that product could have been quite something! Cheers and all the best : )
It’s still got that “MSFS” feel to it, but (other than being a handful on the takeoff) it’s much more stable than the Pitts if memory serves me correctly. It’s nowhere near as acrobatic as the Pitts. I’ve done a few slow cruising flights with it and I find it very pleasant to fly : ) All the best
Nice video, she is definitely a beauty. I bought her this morning while having my first coffee of the day before leaving for work and will probably spend most of the weekend flying her. May I suggest a small mod for MSFS to make your videos just a tiny bit better github.com/kaosfere/msfs-toolbar-nohandle/releases It will stop the annoying toolbar handle appearing at the top of the screen every time you move the mouse. The toolbar will still work if you move the mouse to the top of the screen though.
Thanks Fred! Yeah, she’s pretty, no doubt about that! You’ll probably spend your first couple of hours Saturday morning tearing you hair out over the takeoff then : P but once you get her in the air, she’s a joy to fly! Yes, good shout on the toolbar mod. I saw it around a while ago and meant to install it. Held off, as I was hoping Asobo would sort that themselves (and was also worried about it having adverse affects on the game), but it seems I will be waiting a while for that fix! Annoying that Asobo saw fit to add all these little immersion breakers into an otherwise amazing visual experience. Thanks again, hope you enjoy your time in the Waco! : )
Absolutely there should be! It’s one of my pet peeves, along with the shutdown menu popping up. I’m not sure they realise how much it kills the immersion (along with that little loading circle that for some releasing started appearing after a couple of patches). It would be such an easy thing to improve, I don’t know why it isn’t an option. Rant over ha.
Thanks for the review - money saved. - No documentation. Flight model way off. It should be more alive with shake and vibration. Lack of sound. No whistle from wires. Check A2A Harvard for noise with canopy open. A stunning visual beauty with no depth.
You’re most welcome! Always happy if I can help someone make an informed purchasing decision : ) Flight model (on the ground) and documentation were two of the bigger disappointments for me. Shake and vibration would be great as well, I guess maybe that’s more of a sim issue though? The one good thing about having all these stunning visual models in the sim, hopefully more and more teams will come along and “REP” / “Zibo” them in the long run. The A2A Texan / Harvard is one of my favourite sim aircraft. Personally I think it’s a bit of a shame that the Aerostar will be their first offering in MSFS, but hopefully in the future we’ll see some of their back-catalogue as well : )
Yes, thanks Mike. It’s been brought to my attention quite a few times now. Despite my best efforts I couldn’t quite figure it out before the video. I made an “educated” guess that it might be the same as Waco Texas, alas not. Still, I will never forget now that’s for sure haha! Cheers
I did not mean to rub it in and I can see why you would try going with the same pronunciation as Waco, Texas . But then here in Texas we seem to want to change the pronunciation to common names. We have a town here named Nevada. While the rest of the world pronounces it as Neh-vah-duh. They pronounce the town’s name as Neh-vay-duh. Same for a town named Palestine. They pronounce as Pal-in-stine (long I sound). Then there is Mexia, Texas. Pronounced Muh-hay-uh. You get the picture. We can names to the strangest things.
Ah, not at all! I’m a Brit, we have own fair share of place names that make absolutely no sense haha. I always hope to get place names etc right, but of course, often you don’t find these things out until after the video is uploaded. . . Thanks all the same. All the best from the other side of the pond!
Hi Dan, indeed. A few people have pointed this out. Unfortunately I didn’t know until after the fact. I took an educated guess that it would be pronounced the same as Waco Texas, but apparently not ha. Cheers, all the best
Hi David, Yes, thanks. Someone else mentioned this too. I did try and figure it out before the video, but I could only find pronunciations of Waco Texas. I took a punt and thought there might be some similarities there, but apparently not ha. In hindsight I obviously should have just found some UA-cam vids on the aircraft, I have no idea why that didn’t occur to me at the time. . . Little bit frustrating, as I think I only say it wrong about 200 times throughout the video haha : /
Why people are willing to pay $25-$30 for a half assed arcade plane from Carenado that probably flies nothing like the real one is beyond me. Even the default MSFS planes are better. They should be ashamed of themselves. Not even a checklist lol. What a f.ucking joke that company is.
I know we won’t agree David, but I really feel like Carenado have upped their game since coming to MSFS. I’m not pretending that the product is perfect, it’s not. Could they do better, sure. Overall though, they’ve released some really enjoyable products for MSFS and I think this one was fairly priced. It’s just cold hard capitalism at the end of the day. People will pay what they think is reasonable and if they don’t like the product, they probably won’t buy from the same compamy again. My two cents anyway. . . : )
They could at least make sure the things that are supposed to work, do in fact work before putting it on the market!! Heading bug for example, and documentation. It's just laziness and generally disrespecting their customer base.
Absolutely Brian. The product should be coming out in a finished state, things like the heading bug shouldn’t get through testing etc. But realistically, there are very few flight sim products that come out requiring absolutely no bug fixes. More or less every aircraft I’ve ever purchased has had something. Furthermore, with MSFS, I think developers are constantly playing catch-up. The sim is constantly changing / evolving and this can result in complications with addons. I know some developers wait months to get their product on the Marketplace. A lot can change in that time. I’m not saying this necessarily applies to Carenado, but it’s worth considering. I’m certainly not saying Carenado are faultless (not providing even basic documentation certainly validates your point), but they’ve long been “bashed” by the community. Frankly they’ve often deserved it. I don’t think their current MSFS products deserve the same derision as some of their previous efforts though. The Mooney is one of my favourite aircraft in the sim currently. They’ve also (so far) fixed bugs as they’ve cropped up in the sim (again, something they often failed to do in the past). I don’t know if a leopard can change its spots, but so far I’ve been happy with all my MSFS Carenado purchases. Again, of course, this is nothing more than my own personal opinion. . .
Love the music. The look of the plane combined with the lovely music gives me such and Indiana Jones-vibe. Great review!
Thanks very much! I’m pleased you say that, as Indiana Jones was exactly what I was aiming for! Glad I managed to put it across : )
Cheers
Im still a lover of modernised vintage planes. carenado are really getting thier name out there
Yeah. Initially I was actually a little disappointed to see it had modern avionics. I always like flying crude aircraft in the sim, but the Waco very quickly grew on me! There’s something quite interesting about taking an old design and modernising it.
Personally I think I’d still rather have had a Tiger Moth or Stearman, something of that nature, but I’m happy with the Waco for now : )
As you say, I really feel like Carenado have done a lot to repair their reputation since coming to MSFS.
So you cant escape it anymore
That shark tooth mustang that you see at duxford G-SHWN has got a full glass cockpit g1000 equipped 😂
Bloody blasphemy i say XD
*And ive spoke to a few chaps who have flown warbirds long distances and it wouldve been an absolute pain doing ADFs VORs and all of that stuff😂😂😂
I can forgive fitting the odd navaid here and there. I could even forgive a little portable GPS (why not make life easy?).
BUT. . . . a G1000. . . . in a MUSTANG?? That’s an outrage!! Haha
To each their own I suppose, but I could never imagine doing such a thing.
The beauty of the aircraft and the scenery certainly made my job easy, but I’m really glad you enjoyed it : )
This plane is fantastic. It's very charming to fly and is on the same level of base game content
No drops visible on the plane and the rain seems to be falling "through" the windshild... ;o)
I saw icing...
Still, I’m glad it’s a feature, hopefully they will refine it : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations I flew it in the rain recently and did have rain effects on the windshield. No rain making the wings wet though.
Great video! What are your graphics settings for MSFS and Nvidia Control Panel?
Cheers Zach, glad you enjoyed it!
My graphics settings are as such:
- “High End” preset
- Pre-Cache = Ultra
- Terrain and Object visibility sliders set at 125% (sorry, I forget the actual names of them)
- Motion Blur = Off
- Glass Cockpit Refresh = Medium
- AI Traffic = Off
- VSync = On / 60fps
That gives a nice balance between graphics and performance. I only run at 1080p. The things I’ve turned off / down are known to be famerate hogs.
As far as the Nvidia Control Panel goes: All pretty default there, except for "Power Management = Prefer Maximum Performance".
I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
Awesome, thank you! Your graphics look good and I'm trying to adjust to my new pc set up. Love the videos. Keep em coming. 💯
Cheers Zach, you’re most welcome! My pleasure and all the best : )
Another great review. Indianer Jones is back too. Very athmospheric with the music and this shiny scenery in the background. Very well done👍
Thanks very much! Indie was exactly what I was going for, so I’m really happy some people got the same vibe. Glad you enjoyed it : )
Hello again, it works put such to night on panel and turn rheostat rotary switch up for illumination you can easily read the stay compass.
This was lovely in P3d and looks great here. You found the typical Caranedo bug. Heading pointer/card? There's always something!
(completely understand if you’d rather not say)
Thanks again and all the best : )
Might not be quite the career path you would have chosen, but it still sounds like more than most of us could ever hope to achieve : )
Thanks for sharing, all the best!
What a great looking model/ rendition of the aircraft ..so cool.
Wonder how it looks in VR 😊
Yes, the model is absolutely lovely!
As for VR, I haven’t had a chance to try it out myself yet, but I’m hoping to find out tonight! : )
Agree with others - like the cinematic part - I was thinking Indiana Jones. Its a lovely plane, looks so beautiful, shame about the couple of minor issues you highlight. Great review as always....thank you
Thanks very much Mark : )
I’m rather chuffed that the video evoked Indiana Jones for you, as that’s exactly what I was going for! Something about the aircraft just really gives off those vibes. . .
Yeah, it’s a beautiful aircraft. Hopefully they can fix it up to a point where her functionality does her looks justice!
Thanks for the great review! I love the external engine sounds! Cheers!
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it : )
Yes, it’s a lovely aircraft from Carenado overall. Certainly a very beautiful machine!
All the best!
Really glad you enjoyed the video.
Isn’t that the carb heat right next to the mixture?
Well, that’s a little embarrassing haha! Right under my nose - I’ve no idea how I missed that at the time. . .
Much more importantly though, it’s a pleasure to have you pass by my little “neck” of the UA-cam “woods”, Juan. I came across your channel quite recently and I’ve very much been enjoying the content; always informative and often your videos provide a stark reminder, of how important it is to teach, understand and remember the fundamentals.
Cheers and all the best to you! : )
Great video of a classic aircraft. Hope more of this type appear. Will never fly one in real life but this is as good as.
Yes, definitely a trip worth making : )
That’s a great tip, as I noticed the cockpit control didn’t seem to be working. Thanks!
I have several hours of flight time as of this morning with this beautiful model. One small question is how do you pull up the Carenado "tablet" in order to set wheel chocks, cold and dark, etc.? Thank you. Jim
Hi Jim
Hope you’ve been getting on ok with the takeoffs : P
For the tablet, you can just click on the top of the joystick to bring it up : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank you for your quick response and yes...just before log off last night I found the "click spot" on the joystick.
@@IntotheBlueSimulations
Have you updated the Waco yet? Carenado released an update to fix the torque issues when taking off and landing.
I have updated it, but haven’t had a chance to try it yet. Looking forward to doing so when I get the time then.
Thanks for the info! : )
Thanks for another excellent review, any chance of doing an Waco acrobatic flight please!
Thanks very much, glad you liked it! : )
I don’t know that my aerobatics skills are up to much, but I do like the idea.
Carenado are doing really well with MSFS. Thanks for the review, although this one's definitely not for me lol.
Cheers! : )
Hi David,
Is “default quality” really a bad thing anymore though (genuine question)?
Hello,
Thanks for the reply ref the Catalina yes P3D Aerosoft mentioned out of interest, however I should have asked if you have the freeware Grumman Goose for MSFS, I have it and although by no means fully functioning it is possible to make cross country flights it’s great fun and also a challenge be interested in your views.
Cheers for now Charlie
Hello again Charlie
Yes, I have tried out the Goose for myself (I have created a little cinematic with it, taking it from Lydd to Le Touquet, if that’s of any interest to you).
The tailspin to the left looks like the Messerschmidt 109 :))
It does have that look about it slightly doesn’t it : )
I took a ride in this plane irl at the obx amazing plane
I always like your reviews and style but in this case some daring light aerobatics would have been nice.
Hello again Charlie,
If I had to guess, I would expect that the more minor bugs will be fixed, but it could take some time.
See what gets fixed when a patch comes out. . .
Haven’t forgotten about your other message by the way, just waiting till I have the time to reply properly : )
All the best!
Just a tip, when handling taildraggers on the ground we go full stick back and jab the rudder pedals. This seems to really help the ground handling characteristics of this Waco! Otherwise, like you said, it's a bit wonky!
Another great review, thanks a lot. Much appreciated
Thanks very much as always Chris! : )
Might be worth looking into : )
I love this plane!
Glad you’re enjoying it! : )
Takeoffs are a bit hair raising currently haha, but once you’re in the air she’s an absolute joy isn’t she! Hopefully we’ll see some bug fixes at some point, to get her in tip top shape.
All the best
Two questions. Are you cruising with full power? and second, what about fuel mixture?
Hi Jarek,
It’s been a while since this flight now, but if I recall from memory; pretty sure I wasn’t cruising with full power. I’d imagine I’d have had to have leaned the mixture at that altitude, but I can’t remember now honestly. I know at the time the EGT gauge was broken, so leaning accurately would have been hard at any rate. Any particular reason you wanted to know? : )
All the best
Lovely landing!
Thank you sir! : )
Just to the right of the fuel shutoff valve is the park brake : )
That’s a very good point about the compass / lighting. I didn’t think to try it at the time. That being said, you should still be able to see the compass in daylight conditions. . .
Very sorry to hear about your medical. For sure MSFS won’t replace the real thing, but I think flight simulation can still be very enjoyable in its own right! : )
Thanks Gary!
What in your setup is allowing you to look around like that?
It’s a device called TrackIR. It’s an infrared head-tracking device. It’s great, but quite pricey. There are freeware alternatives available as well though : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations thank you sir!
You’re welcome! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Hello again,
Thought I would share the following, to improve stability on T/O agree load 75KG in rear most position, keep back pressure on stick/yoke to keep tail down as long as possible, next prior to all that go to ESC, options, assistance, piloting and enable "take off auto rudder" this is a tip from my friend Bert Pieke, so far this has been the easiest T/O and most stable, be interested if you test this as well.
Thanks very much : )
Nice review! Nice plane! Thank you :D
Yeah, it’s a lovely aircraft! Glad you enjoyed the review. Thanks very much! : )
Looking forward to some smoother takeoffs in the Waco soon then haha : )
All the best
@@IntotheBlueSimulations The update is now available. It help quite a bit but it is still not as easy to take off/land as other aircraft. The plane has a tendency to veer off the runway and the rudder is too sensitive but with a short take off, that you can put in the air quickly. Not sure if that's realistic.
Thanks very much for the info! Much appreciated : )
I’ve downloaded the update, ready to go. Haven’t had a chance to try it just yet though. Still, good to see Carenado were quick off the blocks with this one!
Excellent review..Thanks ;)
Thanks again Hirwazh! I’m glad you enjoyed it / found it useful : )
Cheers!
I noticed the Fuel Consumption on Take off is 15GPH... which is cruise fuel flow lol.
Hmm, good spot. Yeah, I think the fuel consumption needs tweaking. Probably by at least 1-2GPH in the cruise, not sure what fuel burn would be at full power. . .
I've been waiting for a reason to get MFS 2020, and I think I just found it.
Decent video but FYI the pronunciation of the company name is a little different
"WACO (referring to the aircraft) is usually pronounced "wah-co"[1] (the first syllable pronounced as in "water"), not "way-co" like Waco, Texas, whose name is entirely unrelated."
Damn. . . Haha
I always try and figure these things out before a video, but of course it’s not always easy to google pronunciations. I could only find references to Waco Texas and took a punt that there might be some relation (apparently not).
Even when I was watching the video back I thought to myself; “not to worry if I’ve got it wrong, I’ve only said it about 200 times throughout the video!” Ha.
That’s unfortunate. . . : /
Glad you liked the vid, although I’m sure that got annoying very quickly! Thanks for the info though : )
My father-in-law built and flew a WACO many years ago. It is pronounced "wah-co".
But, if you were an Aussie, it is totally acceptable to call it a wayco.
Yes, I wasn’t entirely sure at the time, I know better now though haha.
Were you lucky enough to get up in it for a flight or two? : )
Sometimes I forget, this is a simulator not real life vlog.
Its so realistic ........
I try my best to create that effect : )
Thanks as always!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations yeah it's your hard work , you have created such a good effect that it looks like real life vlog and you are flying it
I enjoy your cinematic!
Thanks very much Betty, glad you liked it! : )
The manifold pressure gauge is way off when you shut down...it should go to ambient pressure and match the altimeter setting. There's no way the altimeter setting was 43.00+!
Yes, good spot! I only noticed this myself when re-watching the video the other day. Definitely something else that needs fixing. . .
@@IntotheBlueSimulations thanks for the reply! How do I access the iPad? Haha :(
Just click on the top of the joystick : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations thanks a bunch! Is that noted *anywhere* on this release? Perhaps I overlooked it.
I’m not sure it is mentioned no. Certainly not in the verrrrry slim documentation Carenado provides. Their previous aircraft had the same feature, so I was expecting it to be there. . .
We are going to cross the Panama canal tomorrow if you are interested.
Awesome, I will try my best to be there! : )
Thanks very much for organising the flight! : )
Was quite a spectacular route with the sunset and the weather as it was!
Waco has an in-game (interactive) checklist.
@@IntotheBlueSimulations there's also a checklist in their trademark tablet that you call use by clicking on the controls
Ah right! Someone else said the same thing with the Mooney, but I never managed to find it. Would you mind telling me please, how exactly to bring it up?
@@IntotheBlueSimulations The tablet has multiple pages. There is an arrow (or triangle) which you can click to change page.
Hmm, ok, thanks! I did try cycling through pages during my testing, but only found 2. I must have missed something, I’ll try again. Thanks very much! : )
Does it have an autopilot?
That's a "negative", Anders. I hope that clarifies things. All the best : )
Hello Richard,
Thank you very much for the info! Alas, I became aware of this a little too late. I did try looking up the correct way to pronounce it, but all I could find was references to Waco Texas. I took a gamble and thought maybe they would be the same, apparently not haha. Rather annoying, since I think I say it wrong every few seconds in the vid : /
Thanks for the correction, and even more so for the history behind it, very interesting!
Glad you enjoyed the video (despite a Brit butchering the name continuously throughout)! All the best : )
wahco not Wayco pronunciation. Wayco is the city. Wahco is the airplane
Does this thing have autopilot?
Hi Sebastian,
I’m afraid it doesn’t no. . .
Looks like the mirrors are not reflecting anything
Welcome aboard : )
Sorry for the slow reply, been busy most of this week and slowly working my way through all of my correspondence now.
I am always tempted by their pretty visuals but not anymore,
The only situation I'd buy Carenado today is if they team up with some serious addon maker and make the model and textures for them.
Hi beeplL,
Personally, I don't think Carenado are nearly as bad as people make out (not these days anyway), but I also can't say that you're wrong.
Awesome video! You got a sub from me.
Thanks Joshua, glad you liked it! Welcome aboard : )
Is this as twitchy and annoying in the air as the default Pitts?
It’s still got that “MSFS” feel to it, but (other than being a handful on the takeoff) it’s much more stable than the Pitts if memory serves me correctly. It’s nowhere near as acrobatic as the Pitts. I’ve done a few slow cruising flights with it and I find it very pleasant to fly : )
All the best
Nice video, she is definitely a beauty.
I bought her this morning while having my first coffee of the day before leaving for work and will probably spend most of the weekend flying her.
May I suggest a small mod for MSFS to make your videos just a tiny bit better
github.com/kaosfere/msfs-toolbar-nohandle/releases
It will stop the annoying toolbar handle appearing at the top of the screen every time you move the mouse.
The toolbar will still work if you move the mouse to the top of the screen though.
@@WhiteHawk77 I don't know if it's ever been updated. I've been using the same one for months and it still works as advertised for me.
This trick requires no mod installation ua-cam.com/video/SWeoeZ7398o/v-deo.html
Haha, exactly!
what's the max speed???
Not sure specifically regarding the Carenado model, but the real aircraft will give you about 110 kts apparently.
All the best : )
Thanks for the review - money saved.
- No documentation. Flight model way off. It should be more alive with shake and vibration. Lack of sound. No whistle from wires. Check A2A Harvard for noise with canopy open.
A stunning visual beauty with no depth.
You’re most welcome! Always happy if I can help someone make an informed purchasing decision : )
Flight model (on the ground) and documentation were two of the bigger disappointments for me.
Personally I think it’s a bit of a shame that the Aerostar will be their first offering in MSFS, but hopefully in the future we’ll see some of their back-catalogue as well : )
It's pronounced, WAH-CO
Wah-Ko
Hi Dan, indeed. A few people have pointed this out.
Unfortunately I didn’t know until after the fact. I took an educated guess that it would be pronounced the same as Waco Texas, but apparently not ha.
Cheers, all the best
It’s pronounced “wah-co”.
Hi David,
Yes, thanks.
It started as Weaver Aircraft Co. of Ohio. Shortened to Waco around 1928.
Ah ok. Good to know! Ashamed to say as an aviation enthusiast, that’s not something I ever knew. I’ll file it away : )
Again, of course, this is nothing more than my own personal opinion. . .
