INFERNO - DCS World

- "Operation Cannibal" or The Bombing of Hoffnung was one of the most tragic events in Strangereal History. The bombing and the subsequent firestorm caused by the Belkan military's response took the lives of many and has sparked a flurry of controversy regarding the Allies' decisions that led up to the attack. Tonight, an unnamed mercenary, formerly a pilot of the Ustian Air Force, recounts the horrors of "The Inferno" and reflects on the days that pushed him to join a radical and dangerous organization which was slowly but patiently brewing behind the scenes of the escalating conflict.

One of the saddest mission I’ve ever played on Ace Combat, and you made it even more depressing… congrats mate
I also found it very depressing.
Knight: OH MY GOD! WHAT ARE WE DOING? I JUST WANTED TO END THE WAR! THIS MISSION ISN'T EVEN A CHALLANGE ITS JUST ARSON WITH EXTRA STEPS!
Soldier: I don't know what are those bombers were thinking but I had no choice! We must capture this city or the war will never end.
Mercenary: mOR bO0m BoOm MoR M0Ni
Ya described it all perfectly, well done 👍

HOW CAN YOU EXPECT US TO DO THIS ARSON AND DISCRIMIATE BOMBING ISN'T WAR
@@DippKlippGuy OH OK
Hoffnung means hope in German. So the destruction of the city is literally the end of all hope!
The fact that it's an industrial city really make sense since destroying Hoffnung will highly reduce Belkan capability
@@Barri2410 destroying “hope” and abandoning “hope”. This is a very morbid play of words
@@Obi-Wan_Kiddobi and the mission is called The Inferno, also the name of Dante's play, in which the first words they read at the gates of hell are, "Abandon all hope ye who enter here"
Makes the message from Belkan HQ so much more horrifying. AC Zero really is the peak of the franchise's writing. Would kill for a remake!
“Abandon Hoffnung”
Ironic
"The Belkans entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Directus, Rutherford, Laurus and many other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind." - LT Gen Norman Powell, Allied CENTCOM
"In spite of all that happened at Hoffnung, bombing proved a relatively humane method."

@@stassmith8200 it was by Sir Arthur Harris, head of Bomber Command during WW2 who initiated and directed the area bombing of German cities

*WOOHOO. TIME TO DIVE INTO THE FIREWO-*
oh no.
*OH NO.*
Magistrally executed. The mission in game is already a nightmare but somewhat edulchorated as we only have the sky's point of view. Here we also witness what the boots on ground saw. Amazing.
The only thing missing are civillians trying to run away and firefighters trying to coordinate the evacuations.
Some people evocated on another video that there should be the possibility to shoot down the friendly bombers and join AWWNB. I support that idea.
DCS sadly has its limits but appreciate the feedback! I think this mission should have been told thru the POV of Pixy and PA should have included the cut mental breakdown he has during the operation
Prolly they ran out of time and budget...
Looks at ac3 with multiple endings
@@izzuera I don't think so, since story is told like an documentary. And one of the lines during marketing was along the lines "invariable world". Since Belka always loses and AWWNB fails to detonate V2
The demon lord of the round table would never join that coward terrorist organization.
The world definitely needs more mashups of DCS and PS2-era Ace Combat. Best crack at it I'd seen before this was "We Are Aces" by beterhans, 15 years ago during the LOMAC days. It was impossibly epic back then, but compared to the DCS trailers we get now, it's pretty simple.
I didn’t even know A World With No Boundaries had a logo. God that’s so fucking cool. Even the terrorist organizations in Ace Combat have fire logos
I worked with @unimpressedpixy to design the logo and not official, but thanks! I was going for a look that showed Lancelot's (Pixy in this story) sword dividing Arthur's (Cipher) kingdom as he attempts to slay the white dragon (a symbol of foreign influence or the Saxons in England at the time the legend was popularized)
@@SloMobiusStudios It also kinda looks similar to Ouroboros from Electrosphere.
@@SloMobiusStudios Anywhere to find it? I really want to put one of this in my DCS personal skins :(
So is that how you came up with the idea for that Logo @@SloMobiusStudios?
@@SloMobiusStudios Whoa, that is a rad concept for the logo. Nice job! It's a very good reference.
With all the references to hope and hell, you can only imagine Pixy looking down and seeing hell on earth. To him, the world is no longer worth fighting for, as it's clearly destroying itself anyway.
You've captured it perfectly with this video. Zero is the most well-written game of this franchise.
Knight style : What the hell they doing?!
.
Soldier style : Dammit. But we had no choice!
.
Mercenary style : "This is gonna cost you EXTRA".
*Nobody knew why we were fighting anymore.*
Echos back to sea of chaos in 5.
But that's the prime minister! Sir, please stand down, we don't know why we're fighting
In all earnesty, it must be terrifying for the civillians. I can't imagine what it must've felt like to see your own army setting your homes ablaze whilst the sky above you is contested for the right to flatten everything you new. I wonder just how many people on the ground just lost the will to live being in thr nightmare.
This mission really is Dresden '44 dialed up to eleven.
Baghdad
Today I heard a real life military leader say “the emphasis is on damage and not on accuracy”. I realized that sounded familiar, and it’s very sad.
wait a minute the guy who made the B-52 skin got a mini-boss named after him in Project Wingman
The OG mission was already bad from the sky, but you never really saw the scope of just how horrible the mission itself was. This video made me tear up a little bit. It is the perfect representation that war doesn't bring glory and victory, it only brings carnage and pointless deaths.
Very well done.
This has been a true recreation of the mission and it saddens me that there was more sadness that I did not take into account. My brother and I felt chills as the guitar slowed its tempo at the end and the after images of the city in fire. True work indeed. Thank you
I remember playing this mission in AC0.
When going in Ace Style as Mercenary - I just went fully on killing spree, never took much attention what happened around. Much later, when I've played as Knight... Hell. Literal Hell made by atrocites done in Hoffnung. That scream of factory worker when Fuel Tank C exploded...
Seems like perspective also depends of your Ace Style.
Anyway - well done.
The Ace Style does change some dialogues in the missions. Another example is the start of Glacial Skies the drink mentioned at the start of the mission change based on it, rum for mercenary, whiskey for soldier and wine for knight
In many difficulties when the mission started. You just go to oil tank (neutral target) and destroy it. You can trigger the civillian screamin dialogue.
In the words of Max0r, "what happened to the fun plane game?"
So the F-35 is actually stolen Balkan technology from the 90s! Incredible! Excellent machinima! It makes Ace Combat seem so much more real.
*Oh my god, what're we doing? I just wanted to end the war! This mission isn't even a challenge, it's just arson with extra steps! What happened to the fun plane game?!*
Totally not quoting Max0r's incorrect summary of ace combat zero

I almost love this video more than the actual mission. The Inferno in game is dark and scary, designed specifically to tempt you into destroying everything, but the choice of music and cinematography in this video really helps accentuate what a tragedy it was.
I would have understood if it was strictly military installations, but when I found out the entire city was going up in flames…
The wave of guilt that hit me served as a testament of how well written Zero is.
I really liked the music choice here. Kind of forces you to focus on the carnage. Nicely done
I have to be honest. After hearing what beheamoth was doing, I intentionally failed to protect them the first playthrough.
Weren't you still in high school when your old man was in the air, Trigger?
Ive never played ace combat, but any Ace Combat mission adapted to a DCS Film will be the most impressive yet a depressing reminder that any war will make people lose their humanity.
(Example:The scene where the Belkan HQ ordered the belkan Bombers to bomb their own infrastructure, even tho its possible that theres workers of the power plant, ground
troops, even civilians who are possibly the families of the workers or just normal civilians in Hoffnung. All of them dead. So the Allied forces wouldnt capture the city so they can use it as a base/FOB etc.)
Good god, thats some MGS writing there holy hell.
"I've been reading Posadas." ~Max0r
PJ: WHAT THE FUCK IS A POSADAS?
just love how AC0 was a true grey-morale game, it doesnt matter was you're a mercenary or a knight, you're still taking action in this mission, and see that oseans wasnt really better than belkans, not that good guys, as you seen em before, and even you just another killer, that just supportin other killers.
pixy was right btw
Pixy was fucking delusional and would’ve caused Hoffnung-level atrocities 12 times over if he had his way.
He even acknowledged trying to nuke everyone was a terrible idea that wouldn’t have changed a thing later on.
This mission is so much detailed it gives me chills. I never played zero sadly. Then again good work

Special shout outs to @unimpressedpixy who helped design the emblem for the World With No Boundaries, while not official, it slips right in and really catches how broken and divided Pixy was after this mission, as well as @triplication who supplied the skins for the B-52s and made the sections with the allied bombers a "blast" to film! Follow em on twitter and yt, they both do some sick work with AC and DCS
This absolutely stuns. It's a shame so many of us missed out on Ace Combat Zero after having fatigue from AC4 and AC5. (I had seen some plot summaries, but didn't dust off the PS3 and play it until after I finally woke up earlier this year and played Ace Combat 7.) It's the greatest Ace Combat game of all time, and you've illustrated why in this video.
I imagine this is what Dresden would have looked like, only more brutal and horrifying, more people died from suffocation rather than the bombs themselves
3:36 Hoffnung is German for Hope...

Now am heading up to your old video!
Hey kids, do you like *NUKES*?
Damn. Nassault would be proud
If you revisit this. I would try adding voice clips from the game for this mission that weren't actually used in the game. And yes, if you thought the base mission was saddening, the unused voices are more disturbing.
I always adore Ace Combat fan videos that give more characterization to the named aces in the mission.
It's amazing what can be done to tell an 18 year old story. The music was perfect
This... Those animals forgot about this.
Absolutely fantastic, please never stop making these.
This is truly a work of art. Beautifully executed. Thank you.
In all I rate this 10.1/10. It’s amazing
Guys i dont think were looking for nukes anymore
This was just masterfully done, well done. Really captured the sadness of the mission
I never understood this mission when I first played this back when I was a kid. I thought it was the usual mission to destroy targets without knowing the story behind it. I feel this was Pixy's breaking point and that's why he defected Ustio in Mission 12, which is Stage of the Apocalypse. The mission after the Inferno.
I must say what, this is such a beautiful adaptation.
Watching this is a better experience than playing the mission itself!
Wow 4:20 has some amazing formation flying and simultaneous firing, looks majestic
Lemay would be proud
So intense, great work. Please make the same for the next mission"ravage" with the nuclear attack
Using 'Spain' as the score in this video was genius

Holy...Shit. This is really something. Excellent application of the cut dialogue as well! And the choices of callsigns for unnamed ally/enemy units is masterful as well.
Edit: And I'd said all that before the Spirits came in. While technically not in the mission as we played it, I'd argue it makes the mood hit all the harder.
This is a masterpiece! Very cool!
"Oh Boy, can't wait to escort friendly bombers" --- Clueless

"A war crime, there is no other way to discribe what happened, the belkans might have been our foes, but they were losing, wiping hoffnung of the face of the earth, killing thousands of civilians who have nothing to do with this war, there was no strategic or tactical gain from how far they went, it was an act of pure hatred towards the belkans, an act that truly broke the belkan spirit, causing a desprate nation to nuke itself seven times....i shudder to think if that alliance would attack us once more, although, i wont be surprised" rico 1 - secret greymen agent
This is the first time I’ve seen an Ace Combat skin used for the F-35 in DCS.
Perfect Music Choice.
It's similar to the music of the trailers This guitar with this Spanish style if I'm not mistaken
Dude this is SO good I love it
Damn this video gives me Band of Brothers vibes, like when easy company liberated a concentration camp towards the end of the series, the episode is titled "Why we fight". A good title for this mission would be "Why are we fighting?".
We will never forgive them for what they did to Hoffnung
Yes
Does that worth it? How many points did you get Galm Team?
this mission dude, right on the feels
this is awsome!
焼き払うんだ!
まだだ、もっと投下しろ!!
Amazing
The crazy part is that this is a _whitewashed_ version of events; canonically the Tomahawk Pixy's talking about is friendly, and supposedly you can actually see it as a allied blip before it impacts. Was that intentional as an in-universe thing (since going by the Grunder logo this is a postwar video)? Bravo if so.
You can actually see it being fired from the direction of the allied tanks that spawn south of the map, so I believe it was intentional
Another fun fact about said Tomahawk. Going by the Tomahawk's model (Seen more clearly in datamines), it wasn't Ustio or Osea specifically. The Yukes launched that one (It has 'Yuktobanian Air Force' written on it). It makes sense, considering they were part of the Allied Forces, but yeah, the Yukes decided to take part in bombing Hoffnung.
So... How many points did you get?
And people get on PW for being "Ace Combat: The Line"
I feel the entirety of nearly everything that happens in ace combat to be summarized to..."THOSE DAMN BELKANS!*
That goes to show that war is hell. War brings out all the ugliness in people.

F-35 with external weapons:
This mission confused me. So the city was bombed by both forces?
Strategic Bombing by the allied forces and then it became a scorched earth mission for the Belkans.
@@corporaltommy4407 Saturation bombing.
Yes because the Belkans figured they would not let the Allies use any facilities, they bomb the targets they missed.
@@rubenlopez3364 yeah the next mission were they lost their damn minds
The Belkans were losing, and losing badly, so they'd already started setting fire to strategic assets like fuel depots, factories, and anything else that could be of value to the advancing Allied Forces, and *then* the B-52s you're escorting start dropping bombs and force the Belkans to go from setting controlled burns to just torching every single thing they can before they can get out of the city carrying anything they can in a panic.
Then they set off a bunch of nukes at their border a couple days later.
Then they spend the rest of the franchise starting conflicts behind the scenes, as revenge.
1:10, Sabaton song "Firestorm" starts in my head
