Honestly, Faceless Soldier sets up Trigger’s role so well. We never see Trigger actually fly in a formation until now. Up until this point, he’s always been the support element, be it as Mage 2 or escorting Strider Squadron and Cyclopes Squadron. But now, we see him in formation as the lead element. And this sets Trigger up for his role so beautifully because amidst all the confusion and all chaos, Trigger is the one Tabloid called for everyone rally behind. Trigger is the one they follow and form up with. And thus, “Stick with Trigger, and you’ll make it” came to being (minus Full Band, but we all know what happened there…)

Ive never played ace combat,but any Ace Combat mission adapted to a DCS Film will be the most impressive yet a depressing reminder that any war will make people lose their humanity. (Example:The scene where the Belkan HQ ordered the belkan Bombers to bomb their own infrastructure,even tho its possible that theres workers of the power plant,ground troops,even civilians who are possibly the families of the workers or just normal civilians in Hoffnung. All of them dead. So the Allied forces wouldnt capture the city so they can use it as a base/FOB etc.) Good god,thats some MGS writing there holy hell.

The Belkans entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everybody else and nobody was going to bomb them. They sowed the wind and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.

Tragic? Yes. Though not for the reasons stated below regarding the destruction of the city. Take into account the Belkan War is essentially Ace Combat's World War 2. This city was definitely not the first one to be carpet bombed. Pixie may have lost track of what he was fighting for, but let's face it, he's nothing but a mercenary. He was only fighting for money. He wasn't fighting to avenge someone or to protect his home country. There will always come a point where the money you're getting for doing a task is no longer worth it, be it in a regular job or as a mercenary, and Pixie reached that point in this mission. However, rather than retire, he chose instead to join a terrorist organization. A fall from grace by a character you were alongside the entire game. As for the city itself, the sadness many of the comments here are showing and Pixie's reaction were the goal of the Belkan forces. Hate to say it, but a scorched earth policy is as much a psychological tactic as well as a denial of resources. Essentially, it's "See all this stuff you were fighting to take over? It's gone now, you fought and your friends died for nothing." Every single comment expressing how sad it is and saying that war is pointless is simply another example of how effective a scorched earth policy is at reducing the morale of those who witness it. Were this real, the Belkan High Command would consider every single one of those comments an indicator of success and would only be encouraged to do it more.

Holy...Shit. This is really something. Excellent application of the cut dialogue as well! And the choices of callsigns for unnamed ally/enemy units is masterful as well. Edit: And I'd said all that before the Spirits came in. While technically not in the mission as we played it, I'd argue it makes the mood hit all the harder.
