Thank you Frank...for such a beautiful song .when l look at you when you are playing.your heart is into the song... Thumb up on all your videos.... Chuck .in Belleville Ontario Canada.
I noticed right off the bat that the Collings is earthier, more woodsy I guess they call it. Interesting Frank, I have a Larrivee (which is rather like the Colllings) and a high-end Northfield and I find your Pava similar in sound to the Northfield and the Collings to my Larrivee. Both of mine are A style too. Now your playing of the waltz is so superb that you would prob sound good on anything. My teacher has always told me the mandolin creates the sound, the player creates the tone.
What a gorgeous little waltz, and well played too! Definitely one for me to try out on my 1909 Gibson A4! Interesting comparing the sounds of the two mandolins. Asked to chose, I prefer the Pava.
Both mandolins sound great. I enjoyed your playing greatly. Although I have a Gibson oval A Junior, between yours I’d lean toward the tone of the Collings. Simply personal preference. If I might ask would you mind saying what pick ups you are using in each if they’re not the same. Thnx much.
I have an Eastman MD504 Oval hole and a Kentucky KM500 F holes- both a style mando’s. Both are nice, but I personally find a better tone from the Kentucky and the string spacing seems a smidge farther apart on the Kentucky making me more accurate. I’m looking to upgrade - so I love these videos! Thank you Frank excellent playing. Also - you can see both mando’s played at my channel though I don’t play both at once. I’m actually gonna be selling the Eastman soon because I don’t need 2 and want to save up for one of these higher end mando’s.
As always, great playing! I’m curious, how do you think about the two? Is one a replacement for the other or just a different color to add to the palette? Do you prefer one or the other? Also, beyond the difference in builder, I wonder how much of the tone difference has to do with the oval hole versus f holes.
Thanks Zac! Love them both. Different colors, tone ,and feel. I choose the one that feels right for the song. The holes heve a lot to do with it. But, no two mandolins will sound the same, even built back to back.
@@FrankDeLorenzoMANDOLIN Very interesting to hear your thoughts, thank you! I've had the pleasure to pick a good number of Collings f and oval hole mandos. Unfortunately, I've never even seen a Pava in person but heard many good things. You're very right about the fact that 2 mandos built back to back by the same person can sound very different!

Thanks so much Chuck!
I love my Pava A style.....a real step up for me
Thanks Amy!! Enjoy!
Great playing, Frank! I prefer the sound of The Pava, although, if some kind soul were to gift me either one, I'd be VERY happy!
Thanks Steven!!! Your not alone...

@@FrankDeLorenzoMANDOLIN would you mind saying what pick you use? I play a Collins MT2 as well and use BC TAD40.
@@mariontor8139 Hi, On this I'm using a BC CT-55. I also use a BC TAD-3R 45 when I want a really soft attack.

Thanks Ginny!! As most know I'm self taught, but I learned everything I know about tone from listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Lovely Frank, just wondering if you have a recommendation for a beginner mandolin, I’m considering either an Eastman or Kentucky
Thanks Ron!! I've heard nothing but good about both. The BEST source for mando info is Mandolin Cafe, Come check it out!
