- Oil change on a 2012 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI
A few little tips to get the job done easily.
I use Morris Oil and this is the F913D oil designed for Ford Duratorq engines.

great video, thanks for the shallow socket idea. this is the most awkward oil filter location i've ever had in my cars :'(
This video enabled me to do the job last year and I changed oil and filter again a few days ago but as a 75yr old arthritic DIYer using a jack and axle stands the most 'painful' part is removing and replacing the undertray. This time I have cut an appropriate hole in the tray so that next time I can drain the oil without squirming about to remove the whole tray.
Awesome. Great to hear and the cutout is a smart idea. Cheers
I have just used a pump just pump the old oil out. Saves crawling around and the hassle I've done it on loads of cars
At some point you have to change the filter ☹️ mines a mk5, i suck the oil at 3k, get the filters changed at 15k @@chucky2316
I tell you what would happen with me Jonathan. I'll be under the car cracking the oil plug and draining the oil. While I'm under the car, I would be looking for that oil filter. And then I would be raising hell of where did they put it :) Nice work as always and keep up the good work!
It took me a moment to find it first time round. Then a few more minutes to wrestle it off without the right tool! Thanks Terry
Haha on the 1.8tdci they are under the car lol
Thanks mate. Have paid 300 for oil changes but with covid.. saved 200 doing it myself and following your directions. Have two mondeo and next one is due for oil change
Powershift transmissions leak oil all the time. How to remove and replace the seal in the garage?
Thank you for the info much appreciated
How replacement powershif gearbox garage?
Thanks for reminding me, I replaced the 2 batteries today and now the oil that I forgot. :)
There's always something to be done! Cars are cruel mistresses. Cheers!
Can you use Castrol 5-30w oil in this motor?
I've seen filters in awkward places over the years but that takes the biscuit.
+Mr.Mister I serviced a 2.5 turbo Ford Kuga the other day. That oil filter was much harder to get to. Cheers
2.0 tdci? damn that thing has some torq...im used to drive a 1.4tdci :))
It's not too bad but it's a big car. Cheers!
Cît ulei ai pus 5/6l!!?
I hope that wasn't the beer being knocked over! Or if it was an IPA its OK. 😂
No time for beer with all this work to do. Just my new workshop lighting that bit the dust
Thank you
Why when I look on your video at oil filter before in screwing it is it a metal circle? How did you get to the plastic cover??
What's that buzzing/humming sound when you turn the engine off @ 11:40? Mine does that and the battery guy who changed my battery for me said it was a 'strange' noise
Just what I was looking for, cheers mate gona do mine in a few weeks, any plans to do air con ?
+Dave Williams awesome, glad to be of assistance. I might look at the AC at some stage but nothing planned. Cheers
very cood
Does anyone know if the 1.6 diesel is the same with fuel filter placement
My Mondeo came with adaptive cruise control, hill assist, and every other conceivable convenience but not an oil plug access flap in the undertray..Uncle Henry would of loved that logic.
I've got same car and bought a bosh filter but the filter doesn't clip in to the oil filter housing like yours does so my question is does that matter?
Nicely done, now what did you break , sounded like glass hahahaha
An ABS module landed on a pile of fluorescent tubes. It was awesome
I did an oil change on my Dodge Magnum today and thought about making a video but your better at it than I am. I'll just tell people to come here. :) "Click" perfect torque. I like your personal reminder sticker too, but the ending was priceless.
+wyattoneable thanks Wyatt, your videos are fantastic too. Haha you have to use the special tools when you've got them. Those stickers were a gift from a friend, they're pretty neat.
Always seems strange why they make it so difficult changing the filter on some models.
I'm not too sure but must seem like a good idea to someone!
I got a U shaped tool to get the filter out(mine was pretty stuck)...you can also use it to torque the plastic cap back on with a torque wrench.
Hello, I just wonder if you have any videos on coolant change? Do this engines have a bleeder valve? or do they self bleed? Thank you.
OMG...Did you really say "F*&$ker". Jonathan you need more self control. LMAO that was UA-cam gold buddy. -John
haha I can neither confirm nor deny the exact word used in the making of this movie :)
Those birds would drive me nut good vid thx
For 10k km's that filter looked clean!
+Thomas EXOVCDS hopefully that's a good thing and not just because the aftermarket filter didn't fit right and didn't filter anything 😂
I am going to put the last 2 seconds on a loop. I am pissing myself laughing right now buddy. I just can't help it.
haha I thought it deserved a sneaky insert into the video. Captain Jerk outtake style. Cheers John!
nice end!
Thanks
Hi and thank you for all the useful information in all your videos.
I have the same car withe same engine and iam going to replace the harmonic balancer but I can't find anything about this engines.
Iam wondering if you can make a video about that?
And if can't i just want to know if the balancer need alignment ?
Thanks
I don't have one of those cars anymore. Your balancer should just be a straight swap out. It's probably on there very tight though
Does this diesel have glow plugs ? ....friend's car has issues on cold start then fine once warm ....suggested check/replace fuel filter for a start as here in Oz diesel fuel is really crap.......
+blaramazozi unless it was really cold I don't think glow plugs would make a huge difference. I could be wrong of course... But my 1.8tdci had 4 burnt out glow plugs and started fine all winter. I'd start with the fuel filter and check for any fault codes.
Perfect mate. Just bought one and it’s best I replace it. Question what’s the socket size on the oil pan plug. Did you say 22mm?
For reference anyone looking at pan plug size it’s a 21mm
I'm gomma give this a try. Will the oil drain ok if the car is leveled, or I have to raise the front?
It will be fine. Good luck
why did you choose the oil filter with the white box?
I have to do the oil change too, I noticed that the "mann" filter and the "bosch" filter have a 29mm hole.
Other brands have a 24mm hole.
The Mahle one seemed to fit better. Both work fine
How do I get rid of the 'service oil' message on the dash?
Have a look on my Mondeo playlist. There's a video showing you how
Hi wondering if you had to go more than the specified volume of oil?
It always ends up being less, more like 5.2 or something, just put 5L in then check after 1 minute then add bits after that
Did you ever had any dpf issues on the Mondeo? Ford states a5 oil whyle Peugeot states c3 oil for same psa engine, and c3 is better for dpf. Could not find out why ford goes for the a5 oil instead.
Is stick to the correct Ford WSS standard and ignore anything else. Never had a problem on my Mondeo
@@Badgertronix Thx! I jost got mine 2012 2.0 tdci, and was really confused on what to use. But I'll stick to Ford specification as well, thanks.
Hi do you have to pay for the Ford website...?
Yes
Great video. Thank you
Thanks for the video Badgertronix - watched and was about to start an oil change myself, but at the ETIS website I can only get the very basic info on the vehicle and a message about any outstanding vehicle service actions. Certain no channel to access required servicing or the like. Has the website changed? Do I need to Login or something? Thank-you!
You've always needed a login
Thank-you!
Do you change oil and filter at 10,000 miles or kilometres?
+Martin Lynch factory interval is 12 months, 20,000kms. I always do 6 months which works out around 10,000kms
Interesting set up a lot different than what I am use to.
Yeah all these modern cars seem to have their quirks. Cheers!
Hi Badger. Can I ask where you got the oil from? I’m also in NZ
+Matthew Codlin Hi Matthew. I use Oil Distributors in Rangiora. Great oil and great value for Ford specific oil. www.oildistributors.co.nz
My Husband says thanks, he just needs a shallow socket now.
+Austin Bishop awesome. Glad to help out!
i am not telling you how to suck eggs, but you would be better off changing the filter before draining the oil. This way it allows the oil that runs out of the filter housing into the sump to be drained. Good video though keep them coming.
You could do, but it's a paper filter with no drain back valve. Cheers!
Kevin Haynes 9gbkc
Great video thanks
Do you keep the oil level at max or between min and max?
as long as it is above the minimum and below the maximum I'm happy
Great video thanks, off to give it a go myself now.
+Fastpatjo fantastic. Thanks for watching!
ford Mondeo MARK 4 oil change...........
+t5jerry correct, you can read. Cheers!
Nice video!!!,could you tell me please how mutch mpg is doing this engine??? Cheers
Thanks for watching! I've averaged about 42MPG over the last 2 years and that's included towing, heavy loads and all kinds of different driving
Thank you!
I average around 40 in the same car. But I do drive it hard.
good clear video.
Thanks
