Oh ya! This is the One. I Made my Choice! Thank's Armin for all the help. I made one out of a Bone with the lip. I ended up Cutting it off because the release was More Smooth with Less Vibrations. The Dog ate it! Dopey me make a tool out of bone then leave it on my night Stand at Head Hight of myblack Lab puppy, Big freaking puppy!. Last time I seen it was in the living room as he chewed it in half, then Gone in 10 min.
2nd of the Night I'm moving through every one Tonight. I keep looking over my shoulder at the Bow's thinking, "it won't hurt that bad to take a few Dozen shots", No Shooting must see every thumb ring by custom thumb rings. Sent off yesterday for the Size rings and it's in the mail. This looks nice.
I probably have around 10 thumb rings from Custom Thumb Ring, from Korean style, Manchu and Fu Hao. Both, in plastic and metal. Awesome quality and custom adjustments are possible too without breaking the bank. Strongly recommended.
Thank you for the detailed review Armin! I appreciate the closeup views of the ring because CTR shows only one picture of their rings. It is important to see how the inside of the ring is designed for a proper fit and use. I was struggling for many months even years with painful thumb tip strikes using many styles of rings with a string guard. It just makes it so the string is too far away from the center line of the thumb causing me to have to curl my thumb excessively to hold the draw. With the excess tension in my thumb a clean release was difficult thereby causing the string to strike my thumb tip. This all changed for me when I tried a ring without a string guard made by Jaap Koppedrayer. :) It probably most resembles the Mughal ring but without the pronounced V shape. I eventually filed a small flat string rest, maybe 1.5 mm deep as it was a little bit sensitive. What I like best is I can straighten my thumb much more and point my index finger down a bit with a ring like this therby reducing tension in my thumb/hand. I will have to try the Mughal ring from CTR as it looks similar to what I have found works for me. I also imagine a Manchu ring would have similar or even greater benefits! Can you please compare the Mughal ring to a Manchu ring, please? The Manchu ring was developed most recently so I have to wonder if it is the natural progression to thumb ring eveolution despite the fact they were using them with large bows and long draw lengths. How does the Manchu ring work with shorter bows such as Mariner's Mong Moon 6?
I think the rings are beautiful I have three but I think my knuckle might be too large to have a circular ring hole. Because I need a larger space to get the ring on but when I twist it on, it slides off because my proximal thumb segment is much thinner than my knuckle.
Will be purchasing one shortly. CTRs are the only rings I use now. Everything else feels slow. Whenever I have a new thumb drawer I lend them my ring sizer. So easy to get started without having to measure.
Maybe the V on the back side is to be used to more easily realign the ring if it ever shifts, using the same hand finger (probably pointer). The ridge may make it easier to get purchase and control when shifting it back.
Hi Armin. This v shape looks good. I has the Chinese Spur from cta and i have the problem that the Ring is moving. Now i shoot without some ring. LG André
How would you say this feels compared to the Vermil lotus rings? By the way, love the channel. You got me hooked on “horse bows” and learned so much from you.
Armin Hirmer thanks for the response. I have purchased both because of your reviews and like them both but the lotus feels slightly better to me personally, that could be because I got the metal version. Thanks again for the response and awesome videos!!!!
It sounds about ideal, when you mentioned that it stays in place more due to the curves. I will have to measure my thumb and then order a set of three based on the measurements I think. The korean bone ring I have at the moment has a lip for the string on it, I am interested as to why you said that this is not a good idea?
I'll go ahead and say that we're not huge proponents of lips or grooves for strings. The reason isn't that they are innately bad, but that they encourage poor form. A lip allows you to over-curl your thumb, crimping the string, which causes a sloppy release and tends to make the ring itself less comfortable. A lot of the focus people put on "protecting the tendon" on the thumb is because they're over-curling their thumb which forces the ring backward and that is very uncomfortable. Ideally, an archer would practice until they know how to shoot well and don't need a lip or groove for the string, but instead can shoot with everything in balance. Our Chinese Spur ring is somewhere in between, because the hook helps with string positioning, but provides feedback if you're gripping too hard which is why we recommend it to beginners as it is easier to use but still teaches good form. I hope that helps.
Aye, that makes perfect sense, and when I think about it, I do tend to overcurl my thumb around the string when I use the lipped thumbring. I will be ordering from you at some point in the future, and recommended your company to another youtube archer just the other day. Thanks again, great insight.
This review is too long, 14 minutes, it's too much. After 1 or 2 minutes I start to skip and skip and skip. Probably, I miss some important point but no matter, after few minutes, it's really annoying. Please make shorter video with selected sequence that illustrate the important points that you want to share with us about the product you review.

I just ordered their collector’s pack. I’m excited to try all of the different rings.

Very useful review, especially for an interested beginner like me! Ordered their sizer and am looking forward to it!

makes sense

possible comparison with manchu thumb ring ?
I've got one of their Chinese spur rings. It is very well made, just don't use metal nock points.

Really personal preference both do a great job

some famous archers say that, not me. But in the end, almost all ancient rings did not have skin protection
Ah, ok, thanks.

That makes them modern rings .
😀
