Always good to get educated a little on thumb rings. Thank you.
It's good to see you enjoy a review, same like us enjoy the review. Awesome Ring! Thanks. Great day Mr. Armin.✌😀
Armin just made a slick "May the force be with you " joke haha he's the best
Just got home from college. A video by Armin Hirmer is exactly what I want.
I love the Fletcher dynasty from Maine and I also found that a small twisting rotation work well with the design. All the rings I've made work in a similar way. Thanks again for another great review. I would love to see a shot for shot comparison of those three thumbring. Thank you again Armin for all you do!
WOW! Thanks for the review. Now I want to give a thumb ring another chance. I tried a couple of thumb rings and went back to using a 1 over 2 under cordovan tab. I will order a shallow groove black horn thumb ring like yours and give thumb rings another chance. Thanks again for the excellent review.
Nice! I really need a thumb ring like that. Simple yet extremely effective
Very practical, very simple release , very comfortable and fits perfect. ( No more twisting in between shots) . Thorough design with the need of an Archer in mind.
Thank you Alibow.
Maraming Salamat Armin.
Hi Armin. You have the greatest archery channel, bar none. A couple things: I made my own thumb ring from California bay laurel. It works well, and it was a very instructive activity. The money I saved allowed me to get a 50% discount on a 56" Toparchery recurve. ;-) The only thing is that, depending how you turn the ring, it has subtle variations in the rim where the string slides off. This potentially has benefits and limitations. The limitation, I suppose, is that these subtle differences introduce variations in the release. On the other hand, it allows you to easily experience different rim effects just by rotating the ring. I've found I like one orientation of the ring better than others, so simply place the ring on that same way everytime. The other thing is I'm becoming disenchanted with thumb release because, even after many months, I get too many fliers. It detracts from my enjoyment of archery. I mostly shoot my horse bows Mediterranean now. Eezy peezy. ;-)
Ohhhh nice. I have been looking at getting a thumb ring....looking at a Mughal ring from Custom Thumb RIngs but now this one looks good too. Years ago I was a student taking Kyudo and now trying to learn other styles (after a long time shooting longbow). Very informative video Armin, as ever!!!
Excellent as always.
This is, indeed, a great ring. Just got mine from alibow, although in stainless steel rather than horn or bone.
Such a difference from the taped thumb I was using before. I can barely feel the string leave my hand.
Thank you. I understand now why my first thumb ring wasn't working for me. I like the look of the metal and the Ming Dynasty thumb ring.
Nice one, might need to try ring's in the future
I use a piece of leather with my Turkish thumb ring. Therefore I can protect my skin. Accuracy is the most important criterion for me. Thanks for your video :)
It looks good in theory but I bet it takes time to get used to thank you for your time in bringing us the information on these products.
As a new comer to the use of a thumb ring, I have ordered one to come with my new Tang Loulan bow, cannot wait although, its going to be a few months.
It looks cool on the release, almost like as precise and smooth as a compound trigger release o:
May the force be with your thumb! Haha, great review.
Super! Ich habe mir vor einer Woche so einen bei Alibow bestellt.
Love your videos Armin; for someone training at home/alone, could you make a video on common training practices, exercises, how you usually teach, etc? Cheers!
I did some videos about how to start, maybe helpful. maybe I will do another one
After 1 week shooting over 1500 arrows I finally get this. It was so hard at first it kept slipping almost went to my neighbor house a couple times lol. Thanks again Armin you’re the best
Can you explain the knack? I can't seem to make it secure, it slips off with only a light power bow before full draw.
Just made a similar one , cross between a manchu and a simple thumb ring , out of moose antler, seems good , can use a very shallow hook , and very clean release , but for sure when I get home tonite I will try the twist release , I think i accidentlt sent an arrow down range last nite because u may have done exactly that with out realizing,
The string does not sit on the thumb ring but behind, seems indexing string to groove on a galloping horse might give issue
Interesting "new" way of shooting, I will probably try it soon.
I tried a manchu thumb ring but I did not feel secure without hooking the string.
The twisting motion release I was just reading about on Peter Dekkers Manchu archery website and have been really curious about. It seems a superior way that will ensure its clean every time. It is apparently the way the Manchu did it and they were using those massive bows of insanely high draw weights. Interesting.
I don't know if that helps you, but with the help of my trainer I have acquired a similar technique as Armin explained it. My trainer and I have noticed that if you pull the string back until almost the max draw (until it almost goes no longer), the hand always starts to rotate from the same length, without having to consciously help rotating. Sorry for my english, i am stil trying to improve :)
I made my own deep hook and I was wondering why it would be so painful to use, even with just 40 pound bow. That ring was made from wood and eventually broke in half.
I ordered this "painless shallow hook ring" some week ago and hope it will work as in this video.
Very, very appealing ring! My thin Manchu ring numbs my thumb. I will order this ring. I hope it will work with a 50 pound bow.
"This is how the force is works on, May the force be with you"
Ordered Thx!
Always surprising
That rotational release is awesome.
Okay, the Kyoto release sold me
“Rotate slightly to release” that explains the ‘keel’ on the face of the Alibow ring.
Thanks
Thanks a lot for this. Have you practiced kyudo?
do you think that the shallow hook painless ring will work with a western style recurve 40# barebow with flemish twist string? I am not sure how the eastern and western string compare.
Some intresting model zikirs
Sold!
Newbie here. Been playing with running archery. Experimenting with thumb rings and a turkish bow. Keep finding thumb rings flop or rotate on me while I am trying to load quickly. Any tips or suggestions on what type of ring would be best? So far, just using a glove works best.. just a tad harder to feel the nocks.
What would you say the difference is between the shallow hook ring which you showed in the video and the painless ring which is available on alibow website for 20 dollars.
Ach...Meister Armin....... the real " LORD OF RINGS " !!!!
Namasté 🙏😊🙏
Richard Coeur de Lion 👍😎🏹🇫🇷
Armin, is it effective if the thumb ring presses against a tucked in index finger, instead of the middle finger. Would seem to reduce string drag down the edge of an extended index finger.
???
Have you upgraded your camera ? The colors look much better than I remember in your older videos. I keep enjoying all the videos you make.
i shoot since a while with the osmo pocket, but I color grade sometimes differently :D
I have a doubt , should the ring be right on the thumb , or slightly larger ? thanks I like your videos
Thanks. So very timely after I made my second thumbring I sort of came across that by accident. However because the ring was not a great fit (too hasty on the file) it kept slipping sideways and I started to feel my skin delaminate inside the thumb so had to go back to a glove plus tape till I make one just like that.
What poundage was that bow and by whom, please?
Hi Armin. I have the Ali Bow Shallow Hook, and it appears that the string has to slide down the side of the index finger. Concern about deflection. Can you comment about this. The more torque or rotation, more index finger contact.
Have you tried pressing the ring against the side of the index finger instead of middle finger?
Is the thumb position pretty similar to the king of Ruis spur ring? I've modified mine with a micro velcro thumb strap so it doesn't slip around between shots & I'd be interested in something with a similar feel. How does the sizing compare to their painless rings?
I'm very new to thumb draw. I've tried two different styles of Vermil thumb rings and just can't seem to get a secure hook. I've shot very few arrows and my thumbnail was sore for days. And I have had a couple of accidental releases. Just not comfortable with the technique at all at this point. Everyone makes it look so easy, but I'm not finding it to be at all! It appears that the range of motion, and perhaps the length of my thumb is not allowing me to get a steep enough angle on the string such that when "locked on", the face of the ring is roughly 45, MAYBE 60 degrees to the string. Even with my 35# bow this puts a lot of pressure on my thumb as the string tries to slide off the ring with any amount of draw. Maybe the shallow hook design will work for me as it doesn't need such an acute angle of the thumb to hold securely. Or maybe I should just stick with fingers and forget the Asiatic bow... 😕
I love using the thumb release. That would take some getting used to, I hold 72lbs, and a glove. My thumb nail takes a right hammering. I'll give it a go though, but with a lighter draw weight at first.
Hi Armin Hirmer, thanks for the video. Great info. If you were a beginner with Asiatic bows, but skilled in archery, and wanted to hunt with an Asiatic bow, would you use thumb ring, or Mediterranean release? What is more accurate, consistent, and powerful? I'm skilled with Mediterranean already, but unfamiliar with Asiatic bows.
OK thanks for the response. Thanks also for your great videos. Your a blessing.
Not being a great shot myself, I can see a possible minor advantage in shooting with the asiatic style for a slightly quicker follow up shot.
Hai Armin I am a fan of you. Are you from Austria or Malta? Cuz you sound like Austrian yet you are in Malta?
Armin - do you think there is a big difference versus the fu hao ring, or they more or less work the same / function the same to you?
@@ArminHirmer When you say "clunky" - do you mean it is just a bulkier ring (it looks that way)? Or the not as smooth funcitoning on release? (it looks like the fuhao has a bit larger ledge than the this ring). Thank you for all you do!
this dude should be used to play the lead in the next hitman 47 movie...
As a user of this exact ring, I just cannot use it the way you use it. I use it more like regular deep hook but not quite.
你终于戴扳指了
Loooks promising. OH, I have an extra vowel. Anyone wanna buy a vowel?
Nice...but I think I will be scared to pull full draw and accidentally slip the string
Only 40 C? Pstshsh. I lived in Saudi Arabia. Summers were routinely above 50 C.
Do you have a subscribestar account?
@@ArminHirmer It's like Patreon except they don't suddenly cancel your account and cut you off from your income if one of the moral busybodies in their "Trust and Safety Team" decides you're guilty of wrongthink, something they've done to quite a few UA-camrs. I ask because I feel like I owe you money for all the archery lessons but I don't like the idea of supporting a company that has appointed itself internet thought police.
Update , twist release means your arrow is in target before you even realize, you need to remember that little twist , , if you have not been using this style , but boy when you relax and remember , the arrows get very parallel off shots due to poor release or crooked arrows seem to happen less often
Yet again the Hammer ( Hirmer) hit the nail on the head , thank you
so many dynastic models - who knew? now WE know 🙂
Nice job as usual. What bow are you using here and how many pounds at what draw length?
When you just listen to his calm voice.. it kinda sounds like Christopher Waltz instructing you on archery lol
