The title should say Top 10 Big Studio Animated Copycat Movies, because they’re not all Pixar or DreamWorks.
Cars was Pixar, CarGo was The Asylum, Over the Hedge was DreamWorks, The Nut Job was Gulfstream Pictures, Redrover International, & Toonbox Entertainment, Finding Dory was Pixar, Izzie’s Way Home was The Asylum.
Cargo is not DreamWorks
I never really saw Shark Tale as a copycat of Finding Nemo. It was more like a Parody of The Godfather and other Mob movies.

@@Jollyjose251 Doesn't matter. Illumination and DreamWorks are still two separate studios, and DreamWorks wasn't owned by Universal yet by the time The Secret Life of Pets came out.
And cargo is not made by dreamworks
As a kid, I used to think that "Shark Tale" and "Finding Nemo" was the same movie, but maybe it's because they both starred fish.

Yeah every time someone made a movie starring of fish or even an animal everyone think that it's a copycat from a famous movie that they watch
Even though they don't have a similar design or story and they just got inspiration if they are claimed by the director or even the creators of it
Finding Nemo was about adventure and parenting while shark tale was about gambling and romance.
Ratatouille and Flushed Away may be slightly alike, but they are both great

i agree and i highly doubt anyone copied anyone with those 2 cuz only a year apart is too short for how high quality the movies are. like i can understand if it was some trash straight to vhs/dvd movie but both were high quality and to me the stories are completely different.

Many of these are that way, especially "The Crudes" and "The Good Dinosaur" as the latter was inspired by a book and has spent years in production hell. I'd rather compared "The Croods" to the "Ice Age" and "The Good Dinosaur" to "Brother Bear".
Ratatouille was in production for years before flushed away even started.
they aren't even a copycat though the only thing they have similar is that the main character is a rat the premise of them are way different.

Only simulatity between Ratatouille and Flushed away, is that the main protagonist is a rat. That doesn't make them same.

Ahh, the old “Antz Vs A Bug’s Life” debate. I don’t think either one ripped off each other. And even if they did, Antz was great on the mature side with adult situations, while A Bug’s Life proved to be the most marketable.
I agree to this. Antz was pretty much an adult version of the kids film. I thought they were both great on their own.
Antz was stated by the creators of dreamworks to be a big middle finger to Disney. So it was a straight up copy
Antz doesn't hold up and is pretty mid compared to A Bug's Life which still holds up
This happens in all movies, not just cartoons. Many movies are created using the same plots as others. They make a few changes such as songs, settings and sometimes color or sex of the characters, but the plot is still the same or very similar.

I love Secret Life of Pets, but I was also kinda disappointed, just because the trailer made it seem like it was gonna be more focused on all of the pets and what they do during the day, it was more of "journey home" movie mostly centered around Max and Duke. Which was great, just wasn't exactly what I thought it was gonna be. Poor marketing I guess.

Yeah the first 15-20 minutes were great when they were acting as pets, but as soon as they left the home, it was a pretty poor movie

I always thought "Coco" (Pixar) and "The book of life" (Dreamworks) were really similar. I know both of these were in production around the same time even though "The book of life" came out first. I know "Coco" got more positive reviews, I am partial to "The book of life" It just has a special place in my heart.

I know they're both disney, but in my personal opinion I thought "The Wild" and "Finding Nemo" were similar, not "Madagascar". I was actually shocked with how similar back then...

I agree. I never thought that Secret Life of Pets could possibly be a ripoff of Toy Story. If anything, it is more of an animated ripoff of Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco now that I think about it.
Both Dreamworks and Disney are just as bad as DC & Marvel copying each other.
I remember the controversy between Antz and Bugs Life and I remember in a show where they said that Antz made $170million in the box office but Bugs Life made $350million!
Flushed Away has a very different feeling than Ratatouille.
Flushed Away is such a underrated movie. It never gets enough credit but it is a fun entertaining comedy with great voice cast

In my perspective point of view, “Shark Tale” is sleeping with the fishes while “Finding Nemo” has found a way into the hearts of fans and critics alike.

Haley Joel Osment's been the voice of Sora from Kingdom Hearts for about 20 years. He's in a Ted Bundy movie, he's in Silicon Valley, he's also doing voices for characters in DreamWorks productions.

Disney overall have far better movies, dreamworks only have a few good/great movies, shrek, Madagascar, how to train your dragon, small soldiers, kung fu panda, antz and not many others. Whereas I could name a hell of a lot more Disney/Pixar movies that are good/great

In no way Ratatouille is a copycat of Flushed Away, both are goated movies
I guess Aardman wanted to follow in the trend of using CGI for Flushed Away rather than the signature claymation we’ve always known.
Then again, Aardman’s crew did say clay wouldn’t have worked for this film since the majority takes place in a water setting.

growing up I always preferred Antz over a bug's life.
I think that Atlantis and Road to el Dorado are somewhat similar in concept. Both of them are set in cities with a great resource that are used to allow them to succeed, however an outsider wants to use the resources for the wrong reasons and the main characters have to stop each one from doing those things.
I would love to see you make a vs. battle between Antz and A Bug's Life to see which one is better.
To me, Finding Nemo shows fish living like fish. Shark Tale shows fish living like humans

This is interesting because we have gotten to the point where studios are more connected than they used to be. The way it worked years ago was that some movie would get made and another studio wouldn't know until the release. But then you have these things happen involving creative minds thinking alike. It's a little surprising that it has not sparked a inner conflict within studios.
I have troubles accepting anthropomorphic cars and yet I have no problem with talking snails. I suppose it has something to do with one of them actually being alive. "Turbo" was way better than I imagined it could be and the series wasn't bad either. "Cars" was okay, just tough to accept.

Not going to lie this list is not a good list WatchMojo, Turbo is not even close of being a copycat with each other just because they both have to do with racing doesn't mean it's a copy of it same with ratatouille and flushed away just because they both have talking rats as the main character the story and premise of the story are not even close to each other.
Good thing you didnt mention Zootopia and Sing. I seen some "complain" that one was a copycat even though they don't have the same stories and such. (guess its due to animals living in a city and such they thought of)

Turbo's similarity to Cars is even more blatant when you think about how Turbo, like Lightning McQueen, resurrected a small community of shopkeepers who had lost hope in finding more customers.

Never really thought of shark tales as a copycat of anything. I saw the movie as its own thing when I was growing up. As for Ants and a bugs life, they were copycats of each other outright. I grew up watching Ants because my parents had a VHS copy of it, and when I was 8 we got a copy of a bugs life. It was actually kind of fun for me to pick out the similarities and differences between the two movies, and I still find them both enjoyable today.
i'd say turbo is similar to planes because it has an underdog story.
A friend of mine who knows a lot about movies says the original Little Mermaid closely followed Anderson, but it was changed because children cried too much at the ending so they changed it to a happily ever after story.

Kids movies are usually seen during childhood. Most adults lose interest in kids movies as they grow up. So, it doesn't matter if film makers use the same plot over and over. Because when they make films in the past, they create them to cater to the people of that era. When they make a similar movie in the future, they make them to cater towards the kids in the new era. So, if it's the same plot people usually don't know because it's a whole new set of kids.
Number 8 is way more coincidental than the rest of this list & Dreamworks didn’t do Secret Life. Illumination did. Also you forgot similarities between Secret Life & Toy Story having controversial comedy actors in lead roles & Bug’s Life & Antz having nonces as main characters

Over The Hedge and Flushed Away are both DreamWorks movies in 2006.
The moment I saw this pop up I was immediately reminded of Antz and A Bug's Life and had the feeling that would be number 1

Seriously, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe just some really vague similarities, but you can kinda say the same about just about any 2 random animated family movies.
Nemo and Shark Tale are different. The fathers are practically opposite, one is a journey, another a scam. One had romance, other friendship.
I’m sorry, what?! Ed Asner, Melissa McCarthy and Hayley Joel Osment in Cargo? The movie itself is bad enough but why would they have a A+ List cast in this? I think they’re the ones that are ripped off. The cast in Cars in phenomenal, even for the other two movies.
You know, in Sweden, The wild is listed as one of the mainline Disney animated movies, but not Dinosaur or Winnie the Pooh from 2011. I bought an official Blu-ray collection with every movie from Walt Disney animation studios from Snow white to Big hero 6 that had the Swedish order of movies, so The wild was included among every other high budget blockbuster like Lion king and Little mermaid, but no Dinosaur or Winnie the Pooh. Just to be clear, the collection didn't have any other movies from the smaller studios like direct-to-DVD movies or movies like a Goofy movie or the Winnie the Pooh movies except the first one.

CarGo was made by "Asylum", not by DreamWorks. And people will never admit, there were times that DreamWorks was better than Disney. Its true.
Ratatouille is better than Flushed Away and Antz is better than A Bug's Life which it's not as brilliant as the first two Toy Story films.

I disagree with Ratatouille vs Flushed Away, The Croods vs The Good Dinosaur, and Finding Nemo vs Shark Tale. Really the only similarities between them were the animals (or setting) they had. The first two had rats, the second two had cavemen and was set in prehistoric times, and the third two had fish. Those are really the only major similarities. Otherwise the stories are vastly different.
