Phil, I can imagine you almost getting bored with this piece-no challenges, no surprises, no flaws! But you’re right, it is a beauty. I do love cherry plum. Fantastic!!!
Thank You Phil... Soooo nice when you turn that wood. You are the Cherry Plum extraordinaire. You gave it new life while others would have seen the hard wood as only a heat source. Tons Of Fun Phil and until next time.... TM
OH! Don't let anyone burn it, Tuffy! The thought of that makes me cringe! I bet it burns for hours, though. Probably puts off beautiful flames, but still, don't let'em do it! 😊
Hi 👋 Phil from Phil, Another great piece of art, One thing about Tuffy he as definitely being supplying you with some beautiful pieces of wood, as he knows you like a challenge 😂 , and you always seem to be able to turn them into a beautiful piece of sculpture, I have been on my lathe this week, I started on the outboard side of my lathe, as it was to big , for the inside, it was 80c x 45c x 18c , . I have made a large fruit bowl, . I tried to keep the Bark on , but part of it kept flying off., so I decided to remove all of it, We all look 👀 forward to seeing your next Masterpiece , Phil from the moulin,
Beautiful piece!! I love it, and thanks for the sanding safety tip. Anyone who has ever turned, knows how a piece can jump out and grab you, but sometimes we need to be reminded. Thanks again Phil
This is one of the nicest looking Cherry Plum bowls you have turned Phil. The finish is indeed flawless and looks so nice with the shape you made. Simply spectacular my friend and looking forward to what you have for us next week. Gary
G’day phil if I could afford the postage is send you some billets from Auss some hardwood and some not so hard! We have a native cherry wood here witch does produce bush tucker but the colors and grain patterns are like no other depending on the age and Area it’s found in ! From cream in the wetlands to deep red in the dry areas, very hard and you can get a glass finish on it amazing! Keep bringing your amazing talent to the world cheers 🍻
I do know Australia has some beautiful turning woods. Thank you for the thought! 😊 I believe customs has a problem with foreign wood passing over the border, at least, that's what I have heard.
Phil. I was watching my Minnesota Vikings disappoint me again. And I realized it was Thursday so I needed to watch to my favorite bowlmaker and of course he never disappoints me
Wabi - Sabi... The Japanese concept of the appreciation of the beauty of things being "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.". Your work showcases that concept... You Phil, make the world a more beautiful place. Thanx 4 sharing n' I'll keep watching! ✌️😎👍
WOW!! That is just gorgeous, Phil. What an incredible job of turning, my friend. You do beautiful work, sir! You make it look so easy. Take care, …..Gord
So many thanks to Tuffy for sending this piece of Cherry Plum. Is giving someone a piece of wood a little bit like giving someone a geode, in that the new owner might find treasure inside it? Yes, this is beautiful. I bet that it feels lovely and smooth as well. :-)
Another beautiful piece. We get so accustomed to seeing you produce masterpieces that we simply assume the next one will be yet another beauty. And week after week, it is. So fun to watch you do it!!! Thanks for these videos!!!
Thanks, Tuffy. I think Phil would turn that whole tree if you let him!! Thanks, Phil. Another lovely small bowl to add to the collection. When that bowl gouge gets too short, you can turn it into a beading tool or other chisel that rarely needs sharpening. Keeps good expensive steel and handles from getting trashed.
Another beauty, Phil. Tuffy really knows the pieces you like, and always provides something that suits your style and aesthetic! Like you, I particularly enjoy the bark inclusions. I know they can make the work more difficult for you but I also know that you love the challenge of making a "silk purse from a sow's ear"!! Keep it up, Phil!!
Awesome as always, Phil. I'm awaiting arrival of my very first bowl gouge 😁. It's a Thompson, 1/2 inch U-shaped bowl gouge. I dropped your name on Doug Thompson. He answered the phone when I called to ask about the shipping timeline. He was in Florida and it was 21:30 hrs. I was just so honored He would take time at that time to talk to me. We spoke for almost 20 minutes about my gouge and projects I have in progress. I'm really amazed at the sense of community that I have seen in the world wide wood turning family. It's just filled with some wonderful and outstanding individuals. Thank you again for sharing. It really means a lot to me that there are people like you and Doug that are willing to spend a few minutes interacting with me. Enjoy your day, sir.
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop I think that if you can turn your own handle they are cheaper than most. My gouge was $75+shipping. Take a look around. You might be surprised. I was seeing similar tools priced well ovec $100.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever! Cherry plum beautiful! Thanks Tuffy Martinez!! Thank you Phil for showing us how it's done...you make it look easy. It's not easy. Blessings from Colorado!
What a stunning piece of art. It’s just amazing how such a unlikely piece of wood in the right hands can turn into a masterpiece. Your truly an artist with an eye for taking a piece where ever it leads you. Just beautiful Phil.
I think I should hit the like button before I watch your videos because I’ve never watched one that wasn’t entertaining and I’ve never been disappointed with the final piece. Even without any type of exotic finish your pieces are exotic show pieces
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Thanks Phil, I know. Things still not good generally here but I'm really hoping to get a very simple project out next week.
I totally understand when you have 2 of the same but one just feels better. Small suggestion, when it gets too small, turn it into a chisel gouge for your shop. Not all chisels are flat and I find curved chisels useful for a lot of projects where a router can't reach or is too much machine for the small job.
Hi Phil, Yet another beautiful piece. Years ago, I ran into a former student and he gave me one of my cherished moments. He told me he learned more in my former class than he had ever learned from anyone else. This is exactly how I feel about watching and listening to you through your videos. Thank you so much Phil, I always learn more each Thursday…
Luv the Cherry/Plum...need to find some of that wood. Friends have a tree...but they would be disappointed if it disappeared. The fruit is delicious and makes great jam. Fantastic turning. Thanks for sharing your skills. 🌲
Absolutely beautiful bowl and awesome piece of wood. Tuffy really has provided some awesome pieces for us to enjoy. Love the finish as well -- this is just a fantastic piece all around. Love it!
Hi Phil, loved the plum cherry turning. Beautiful. Seeing the hard wood take the edge off your gouge reminded me of cutting black locust firewood with a chainsaw as a teenager. The edge on the chain disappeared very quick. I really enjoy your work, thanks. Bob in Ohio.
Yes definitely a little cutie Phil, I really like the shape to and the bark is outstanding. I sure you can get another couple of years out of that gouge 😂. All the best to you. Regards Jim
A very beautiful piece, as always, Mr Phil. I'm sure this one took much patience on your part. But you take care to make it prefect. When I was a child, cherry plum trees grew wild where I live here in South MS. We used to stop along the highway and pick as many as we wanted. Nowadays, you don't see them growing in the wild anymore. I don't know what happened to them. But you just don't see them anymore. It's a good childhood memory though.

“Cherry plum never disappoints.” I was just thinking that I don’t remember seeing one of your cherry plum pieces that wasn’t just as lovely as can be. The grain and color are spectacular. And of course you do a great job of turning, sanding, and finishing. Gorgeous bowl Phil!

Well, it was a challenge to turn and even more so to sand, Kid! But, yeah, worth the effort, thanks! 😊
I totally get why you like your short gouge! It’s an old friend that you have broken in to your satisfaction! And it creates such wonderful turnings!
It's been apart of at least 3 hundred turnings, Beatrice! It IS an old friend! 😊
Thank You Phil... Soooo nice when you turn that wood. You are the Cherry Plum extraordinaire. You gave it new life while others would have seen the hard wood as only a heat source. Tons Of Fun Phil and until next time.... TM
Tuffy, you’d better send him what ever you have left of the tree. I don’t think he will ever pass up another piece of it!🤪🤣😂
OH! Don't let anyone burn it, Tuffy! The thought of that makes me cringe! I bet it burns for hours, though. Probably puts off beautiful flames, but still, don't let'em do it! 😊

The contrast between the lighter wood and the rich dark of the bark is so pleasing. I love the shape of the bowl and the natural edge. So earthy.
Thank you, Cecilia! We agree! 😊
Beautiful piece!!
I love it, and thanks for the sanding safety tip.

Yup, as I said I love this shape but with a natural edge, it's dang near impossible to sand the inside. 😊
