    I've owned the 2.0 litter version of this car for about 2 years now and i love it, it is responsive, quick and handles great, we have been in 2 long trips with 3 adults and a lot of cargo and it goes smooth and agile everywhere, best purchase ever.

    The best thing that Mazda every did was leave the relationship with crappy Ford. Since then, Mazdas have improved dramatically. Reliability is up close to Toyota. Good deal Mazda! Keep it up.

      @@edharris9728 common issue in 15s are cracked windshields. Kinda pricey too. Other than that they're pretty good cars. Just change the oil on time. The reason for my comment is that Toyotas are the only cars I've seen been abused all they're lives and still run. Not even Honda is close to that level of reliability.

    Thanks for the review, down here in the third world in 2021 I finally achieved owning a CX-5 GT 2014. Confort is really decent but I feel sport is not even in this car, really smooth to drive and soft in non perfect roads, a nice car to go out with your family during the weekend and not a pain in the ass if you got stuck on traffic during the week. Definitely a daily basis car.

    My first new car since 1999 was a 2014 CX-5 mid-range Touring in November 2013 and I'm really pleased so far. I got the FWD version because I'm not in the yuck alot and simplicity, weight and mileage were factors. I wanted something I could sleep in on long trips and its got the room and fold-down seats makes it pretty comfortable. It was advertised at 25city-32hwy and I'm at 30.3mph after 13,000 miles. On three separate trips its done 35-38 mpg highway. Road noise on rough pavement is a very minor gripe but with 5 people in the car with backpacking/camping stuff and the air conditioning running mid-level for 2000 miles a couple times this Summer and doing 35+ mpg this car is great! To the Mazda folks who might be listening I'd advise you you weigh heavily the Engineering costs vs. customer demand--you've got about the most perfect vehicle
    in its class as it is. Keep it the same and run it for 5-10 years. Yeah, I'd like this and that but reliability should be the focus! Very pleased with my first Mazda.

    People complain about road noise in the cabin and automakers give them more sound deadening material, then they complain about not having stellar fuel economy . . .

    • @ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow
      @ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow 10 років тому +3

      30-50lbs in sound deadening would probably do wonders in the right places, and I doubt anyone is going to notice a difference in fuel economy. They should offer a sound deadening option as an extra charge -- I'm pretty sure a significant amount of people would be willing to pay for it. Installing it yourself is a pain.

    You're missing out though. The manual transmission for this car is heavenly. I only wish they would offer it with that 2.5 liter engine. But still, you can get everything important about this car (the wonderful chassis, etc.) and a highly enjoyable manual transmission, where you get a very fun driving car plus the utilitarian and comfort aspects of a compact SUV for about $21K. You can't beat the value.

    I own one of this but mine is a 2.0 for various reasons being in Taiwan, this is a very nice car, drives like a sedan, can't find too many cars at this price level to replace the Bimmer I used to drive. The interior in the video is not my taste though, mine is all black so it matches with the dash and door panels, the vidoe system they have here is also better, we have the 7" screen, but you pay for what you get, my 2.0 FWD cost roughly 34 grand. If I were to pick again I would pick the same thing.
    Probably the only thing for improvement would be the the sound damping, especially on high speed, other than that, it's a perfect car for the price, no regrets at all~

      engines are designed to be revved. Ford f150 with 335000kms on it and its been driven like it was stolen since it was new in 99, 2010 mazda 3 had 90000kms before i sold it and never had a single problem, bought it brand new and raced it through country roads almost every single day on my way to work. F150 is still going strong still and is just a work truck now.

    Some of the errors that were made during your review were the fact that you can indeed zoom in on the Nav screen by simply pressing the magnifying glass that was clear to see during the review( right side of screen). You also said that the rear seats had a 60/40 split but in fact it has a unique to the class 40/20/40 split. And the last thing was that you criticized the screen for being small saying that the buttons would be difficult to press while driving if you had big hands. You failed to mention that there are steering wheel controls for the Audio/Handsfree to prevent you from taking your hands off the wheel while driving to use the touch screen. Other than those errors, I enjoyed the review.

      I ended up with a cx5, though it was really close with the Forester. The Forester was noticeably slower (the turbo was $10k more, thus out of my price range), I liked the interior of the cx5 better (seemed higher quality imo), but the Forester had more space and seemed more open inside. Overall it came down to the color choice lol. The Forester had really dumb colors (don't remember, but along the lines of Grey, black, white and an ugly green) whereas the cx5 came in 3 different blue colors, a nice red, a nice dark Grey and others. Looked at the Rogue, but wasn't impressed mostly because the dealership was crappy and made me uninterested. Nothing seemed special over the other two anyways. Don't know about the rav4. These were 2014 btw.

      Oh how right you are! I work at a Mazda dealer and it's appalling how bad the bodies are, not just the paint. We just got a 2013 CX-5 with 40,000 miles and the paint is chipping on the doors and peeling off the hood. The owners even told me, they garaged it every night, washed it often and did nothing to make the chips and peeling occur. I would never buy a Mazda just for that reason. I know for a fact that my Jetta has triple the amount of paint on it compared to any Mazda.

      Current platforms:
      Mazda 2=Fiesta
      CX-3=Next Mazda 2
      Mazda 5=Ford iMAX
      CX-5=Mazda 6
      CX-9=Ford Edge
      Previous platforms:
      CX-7=Mazda MPV & Mazda 5 combination
      Mazda 3 up until 2013 was Focus MK2 platform
      Mazda 6 up until 2012 was Fusion platform
      CX-9=Ford Edge
      Tribute 2000-2012 = Escape 2000-2012
      Tribute/Escape based on Mazda 626 platform (in fact the rear discs can swap over to drum models)
      Mazda Protégé = Ford Escort
      Mazda B-series Pickup = Ford Ranger
      Unique Mazda platforms:

      All Mazda DISI engines are Ford Duratech (basically all Mazda engines after 2003 were co-developed with Ford)
      All Mazda Skyactiv engines are in-house developed.
      Ford and Mazda share a cross-licensing and patent sharing agreement on previously shared technologies. Engineering has operated independently since 2010.

      Tim W The Edge is from the Mazda 6. They made it a Ford ... then a Mazda

    • @emotionz3
      @emotionz3 9 років тому

      Mike Miller They didn't "make it for Ford," Ford just used the platform like they use practically all of Mazda's platforms ;)
      While the CX-9/Edge are built on the CD3 platform shared with the Mazda 6, by the time the Edge was produced the 6 was built on a modified version of CD3 (which Mazda calls Platform G, and the 2008-2012 6 used "GH") This is all prior to Skyactive, which is not licensed to Ford. The 2015 Edge uses CD4, an entirely Ford platform likely hijacked from Ford UK (it's pretty damn similar to the EUCD platform)
      But yes you are right, the CX-9 and Edge are a Mazda 6 underneath, although their wheelbase is longer and the platform must be reinforced (probably a boxed sub-frame) to handle the increased weight and towing capacity.
      It's also worth noting the CX-9 and Edge both use a Ford 3.7L engine. Mazda, like Ford, can continue using previous platform and engine technology even though their partnership has mostly ended.

      It's because Mazda isn't an automotive giant like Honda, Toyota, GM, VW, Ford etc. People buy from companies that are bigger, most of the time. The Mazda lineup could be covered in gold and cost $10,000 less than the competitors and people would still buy from other companies. Give it time. Mazda is growing.

    Nice review Sofyan. When I also first came in contact with the Mazda CX-5 two years ago while filming it at the same time (but the Sport version with the 2.0L SkyActiv Engine), I had the same overall positive view about this vehicle, especially with how well it drives when I test drove it on the highway access roads.

    I'm not sure why everyone keep praising these Mazda vehicles. I have test drive the 2014 Mazda3, CX5 when it first came out and personally it wasn't that impressive. It feels under power or on par with the rest of the vehicles in this segment. Cabin noise, interior layout/designed was just average or feels dated, so we bought another SUV instead.

  • @coleman2586
    @coleman2586 10 років тому +2

    There are two things Mazda must do to improve the company. I think they have to make their cars with quitter cabins, and they must improve their infotainment systems. My wife and i love the driving dynamics of Mazdas, but we both have passed on Mazda and went with the competition because of Mazdas poor cabin insulation and less than average infotainment system.

    If so, I'd like to offer the following, in the spirit of those nauseating, sappy Mazda tv ads:

    Hello people on the internet!
    I am thinking of buying this (Mazda Cx-5) or the Subaru brz.
    I am single, about 5'7. I am thinking of getting a dog so I just need two seats. Also, I have 2 years to buy a car and I have a stable income. My budget is $50,000. I already have the money to buy either car; so in your opinion, which one should I get?
    Thanks in advance.

    The more "normal" car reviews I see (the cars, not the reviews), the more content I become with the old vehicles I already own and have paid off. These things are getting nicer and all, but they still don't seem to be any quieter or significantly more powerful or better on gas than what I have...and I'd be making huge payments on a new car.
    It's not as though I can afford a brand new Escalade, and that's pretty much what it would take to satisfy me. I'm a snob when it comes to NEW stuff because at the end of the day, my mind would have to be blown in order to justify a monthly payment. I can tolerate less knowing I'm free of financial oppression,, and my less isn't really that bad. I hear the road noise from this cSUV and it sounds like my 1997 4 cylinder station wagon. And the engine sounds pretty much the same...ticks and all.
