The Zelda Key Glitch Unlocked In Detail

- It's an old and well known glitch, but no one seems to be able to say why it happens, until now. I think I might have solved it, the mystery of why this door magically unlocks in the original Legend of Zelda

YO! This is so cool! Thanks for the shoutout and for solving this decades-old mystery!
You could say, it's a secret to everybody.
Interesting!
*Now pay me for the door repair charge.*
Tragic
*With your life!*

Ok, this just completely blew my mind. This is one of those little quirks about the game that I've always known about and used to save an extra key. But it's always bugged me that it seemed like nobody really talked about it and I've always wanted to know why. Now I know and I thank you!
U can't can't be serious?
Nice to see you venturing into UA-cam videos, it's a far cry from your cooking show.
Ahhh that makes sense now, thank!
When you first started explaining how it might work, my brain immediately started thinking, this is probably related to how the Lost woods unlocks after travelling North, west, South, west. That must be handled elsewhere. 🤔
Nicely explained!
Video A: "Why does this happen? This is a total mystery". Video B: "I think this might be why."
Comment section for Video B: "This guys a hack fraud!!!"
Honestly, I'm assuming Nintendo hasn't fixed it because... well, why would they? This is a bug that seems, for all the world, like a secret. And everybody likes secrets in their games! Since there's literally no harm caused by this, and it arguably adds a little extra easter egg to the game that some fans would miss if it weren't present anymore, it really seems like the sort of bug that's better left unfixed. You could call it a "happy accident."
I really was geeking out of this when you were going through the code b using the emulator to figure out how this worked.
"Everybody knew this - you, sir, are a LYING LIAR waaaa!"
I didn't, and enjoyed the bit of reverse engineering. Cheers for sharing! 👍
Thanks Fuzz! I swear there is no actual explanation of the 'why' of this glitch that I could find. Lots of how it's done, but no explanation of the code behind it.
Not setting a direction makes more sense for single-screen caves, which were probably implemented first.
I discovered this glitch by mistake in 1988. I told all my friends the next day at school.
I remember figuring this out waaay back in the early 90s accidently about this where i would enter level one and for some reason id leave to come back in to find the first locked door gone
So that's what a breakpoint is and does, hey? Thank you for providing this information, I believe it will be useful to me in future, and I suspect it will be easier to remember/understand from your video than from reading about it in a dry guide somewhere.
Huh, so that's why it does that. Given that it would normally only trigger on the first dungeon of the game, maybe Nintendo left it there on purpose? An Easter egg to have an extra key on hand to help out people who found it? Developers have intentionally left things like that in games before so it's really not that much of a stretch.
Maybe, but it could just have easily been an oversight and a legitimate bug. No other dungeons have a locked door in the North direction in their first screen.
Nah, more likely they just removed all locks like that from 1st rooms.
Great detective work! Really enjoyed this.
So as it turns out, my comment on TheBreadPirate's video was dead on the money. Deduction skills FTW!
Legend! Well done!
Its unlocked if you load any olayer name with a double letter in it like stucco or riddley even zzelda
Thank you for the disassembly view
Definitely makes sense. I didn't even know about this glitch though, I don't think I ever triggered it.
But you're not really the first UA-camr to solve it, are you?
This is a well known glitch for so many years. I've seen other videos before explaining the glitch. So this video is just a repeat of other videos. This glitch is a great thing to save a key or for speedrunners.
If he's not the first, who is?
Neat! Good video.
What happens if you unlock a door, but walk around it instead of through it? Is it still locked on the other end? Does it unlock the other side when you open a door making the unlock when you enter a room pointless? Do you just automatically walk through after unlocking a door, making this impossible? Does the game not have any locked doors you could go around?
You can't unlock a door without going through it. Later on there are some doors you can go around without unlocking first, but in that case the doors stays locked until you unlock it by going though. If you cheat and walk through walls the doors stay locked too, you need to go through to unlock a door.
If you were to enter the dungeon from above, the door wouldnt be there
This glitch is crucial for randomizer runs.
ngl, you explained it very overly complicated when its really simple.
"Uhm ackshually I knew about this" 🤓
This glitch happens when you enter the sceeen level 1 is on from above using a game genie. The reason it happens cause the game assumes you must have entered thru the locked door and thus removes it.
Yup, this is the right answer. The rest is just technical details.
Maybe he retitled the video, Maybe you are all a bunch of whiny know-it-alls, Maybe it's some cynical ploy (and not an obvious necessity of even surviving in YT's algorithm) to deceive you poor misguided clickers, or Maybe the original video he was talking about said "This should not exist" which is a much bigger and overt falsehood than "Glitch explained in detail" and provides totally adequate context for the production of this informative "response" video, or Maybe, just Maybe this a is really interesting topic for a video that is 100% in the boundaries of normal acceptable and reasonable content.
Just maybe.
I get the feeling that some people feel threatened by others who understand assembly language
This is a bug I think everyone has encountered. I am pretty nostalgic for it.
Does everyone really encounter it? If you are playing through the game normally, you don't usually exit a dungeon immediately after entering it.
Well, people knew why this happens. The title is definitely factually wrong haha
"The Zelda Key Glitch Unlocked In Detail"
That's not even a statement, how is it wrong????
@@matthewrease2376 Title was changed
Err, this trick (the pirouette) is commonly used in speedrunning (especially the Z1 randomizer), and has been understood for years (I don't even remember how many years ago it was I heard how it works).
Though don't let me discourage you from reverse-engineering. It's my favorite pastime.
It’s unlocked so you can
“Go to the next room.”
Wait till they find out about the khananakey glitch
Zelda, the famous Adventure clone.
I know, but I’ll never tell ❤😂
This was well known already
We know why it happens.
because you touch yourself at night
I know why
i too enjoy lying in order to further my career
Flat-out lying in the title? That's a "do not recommend channel" from me dawg
Maybe a mistake. Hanlon's razor, but change stupidity by just mistake by lack of research on the topic.
Yeah, we knew this already. Don't create videos based on other videos and most certainly don't say Nobody Knows....
Lot of comments like this. Did everyone *actually* know it’s because the direction setting behaviour isn’t set on dungeon entry, or are you all confusing the symptom with the cause?
