I 've been producing music for over 20 years . The best recordings of perfomances , vocal or instrumental, somehow capture an energy that has a greater impact on the listener than other recordings of the same materiel . This effect trancends the charateristics of pitch and tone . It's something felt , not merely heard . It has more to do with the state of the perfomer during the take .
I was avoiding watching videos on the subject as I was afraid of "replaceability", but actually I've got motivated to try this out as a _tool_ to write better vocals. When you listen to an amazing singer you get both the amazing voice and the fitting vocal line in one inseparable bundle. Now if you change your singing to have a simulated amazing voice, you will hear what your line is missing. To make Beyonce's voice shine you need to prepare the vocal line for it. If you can't, you have to change the song for it. This tool is going to be invaluable for introverted songwriters with meh voice, like me. If the vocals sound great like this, it is time to hire the great singer to slay it.
For me, the more useful (depending on how you look at it) A.i vocal feature is not to copy existing artist. But to change my voice to a different voice so I can create a virtual artist for my virtual artist project. Virtual artists already exist out there. I don't have to show my face. I could hire animators to animate my virtual artist. I could change my voice to female so that my virtual artist could be a female. Again, not to copy or mimic existing artist, but to create a new virtual artist. Almost like a variation of Vocaloid.
a log has two ends For one person there are a lot of advantages, for another there are only disadvantages... Time should be spent on self-development, but it turns out that I am wasting time while the AI is developing. It is important to train your ear every day (if you are a sound engineer), daily develop your musical performance culture, work on your finger technique (if you are an instrumentalist), and also take care of your cords and vocal apparatus if you are a vocalist... our value is the touch of our fingers on a key, string or drumstick (the moment of the birth of sound). A high level of performance, originality and creativity - these, in my opinion, are the main characteristics of a musician or sound engineer....
I actually just got Synth V with pre-production being the main purpose. As a vocalist, there is a huge potential in quickly trying out different ways to sing a melody and in iterating over lyrics as it is being written without having to physically record every time I want to try something new. Once I'm satisfied with how the melody and lyrics sound, that's when I can fully focus on tracking my vocals. Plus being able to add female backing vocals (with the free Mai voice pack) is a nice option for high harmonies.
I own SynthV as well and it's just amazing and mind blowing what this thing can do.. Of course it needs too much tweaking and automating stuff to trick people into thinking that this is human but this is by far doable. And even if it needs time tweaking stuff, you can have a finalized product faster than going to studios, recording, mixing etc and of course cheaper and you can customize the vocals however you like.
This was fascinating & well-done! Went through some of the many examples and possible uses for the AI vocalists. One thing of note, is that you can actually sing. Not sang sing, but definitely hold a note and get the melody and expression of that out just fine. Which is something that I think does make a difference for this to be effective. It's NOT taking a 'pitchy' vocal performance and making it sound like a mulit-Grammy award singer. Even the raspy-ness - which is perfectly suited for your vocals - seem to be too much for the AI vocalists to recreate in their own way. My overall thoughts on this.. Well I think this is fine for demoing and sharing/collaborating w others that are exploring different stylistic approaches of how a song can be sung, to be THEN sung by someone else is fine. But I've seen the trend where it's used to REPLACE singers/vocalists. And that still doesn't sit with me well. It fust feels like the music version of the "uncanny valley". Conflicted
I used a AI female in my 'Girl of My Dreams' cover, sounded pretty good i think, so definately has a place. However it's like you say the copyright will probably be a huge issue in the future. But for now people can just let lose i suppose?
Great video mate. AI is going so fast ! I totally agree on the last part about copyright. If I were one of these artists, seeing my voice there would make me really mad haha!
You would be surprised. Some of these artist I never heard of, and trust me they are glad to be on the site. Its free marketing, and for that there is a give and take, although not always what one would consider ideal.
Kanye’s vocals surprised me! My fave was Hank Hill and Mogan Freeman! I was rooting for MJ but was sorely disappointed. Oh by the way did you pitch down your vocal down?
Bro ngl I think the song itself with Kanye on it israd. I was immediately filled with joy. The lyrics were great and the flow of it was awesome. If you finished this track people would flood in. Kanye does indie👍
Inevitably a.i. will progress so intrinsically by fine tuning and repairing it's own faults discernability from the organic voice would be harder to tell or make a difference. As far as lazy people making money doing it, I wouldn't be too worried since if that were the case everyone would be running the a.i. beatmaker and applying a.i.vocals to it. Still doesn't make me want to stop writing my original music however, there is just a specific niche or knack that makes an artist specially inherent and unique. A.I. is an assistant not a replacement, for me anyway good luck
I actually thought the Billie one was pretty good, listening from my phone speaker so maybe can’t hear these nuances, but maybe that low mid range vocal for better?
What I see AI vocals used for is for pitching songs to artists the biggest problem I have ever run into is the A&Rs can’t hear through someone’s voice if it’s not sounding enough like and also slightly different from the artist the are looking for. AI vocals gives chance to singer songwriters who can sing but don’t have a good tone for pitching songs. It’s also a LOT cheaper than hiring a demo singer.
Are there any free AI voice apps or whatever that work on mobile daws?? I dont care if its famous voices or not, im just looking for like a good voice changer to be able to do like female harmony or background vocals.. thanks in advance..
Any recommendation to generate vocal track from non-English text and melody line as input? It is OK if it’s not free, but not too pricy please, it’s for amateur purpose.
The mistake wasn’t not creating a Hank Hill choir; it was not creating a Rick Sanchez choir! Most of the decent uses to date of AI vocals (IMO) has been for comedic effect. Beyond that, it doesn’t seem particularly useful. But it’s given me a few laughs, to be sure.
Completely botched it I think you actually made Hank Hills choir recording and just decided to cut it out the last minute. Loved hearing him sing. The show is very nostalgic to me.
One day, a single AI computer, on stage with holographic band members, will perform an entire concert to a packed house and get a standing ovation. What a world that will be.
To answer your question, let's hope not. The AI vocal service you demo'd can easily be described in one word - lame. Outside of the potential legal ramifications, I see it as nothing more than party trick to entertain your friends with in a home studio. Music, painting, pottery, etc, or any other form of creative expression, IMO, is truly a gift that anyone can explore in our earthly realm as humans. Some are granted god given talent from jump, others have to work harder, but that's what makes it so special. Find your unique way forward, your own voice, set yourself apart, create something beautiful for yourself (firstly), then if other people like it even better. AI that assists in EQing or compressing a vocal or instrument, etc, as part of the production process, sure I see that as a useful tool. Personally, I draw the line there.
Obviously it's the future, it's only going to get better. Also eventually they won't even mimic human artists, maybe not this service but it's inevitable. I expect the same goes for instruments and mastering.
Not being a hater, you can use any tool in a creative way, But all this is leading to the death of artists. New producers, coming up and using all these AI generated, creative tools, will never last in a room with true musicians.
Ai will never master the craft remember to build and house you would still need a robot physically to do it SO DOES MUSIC .. .. To many creativeness in music just like a house .. AND REMEMBER MUSIC MUST ALWAYS STAY PRIMITIVE !

I find it very useful. Using the not 'famous' voices I can make female back vocals or some chop loops and such. I agree on the rest. Cheers!

Or pitch correction

I thought it would have been more productive to hear rappers rap instead of being showcased out of their element singing.

you can pitch it and transform it with vocal plugins
