  • David Zé (1944-1977) was one of the greatest musicians, singer and composer of the Angolan folkloric history.
During the youth he was a mechanical turner and he filled his spare time giving explanations of mathematics.
He began to take the first steps in professional music during the free time after his work singing his songs. One day his friend Dino Capakopako, listening to his beautiful songs, presented him to the "guru" Urbano de Castro in 1966 and from that time they became inseparable friends together with Artur Nunes thus forming the great "Trio of Saudade".
Urbano de Castro discovered that David Zé owned a talented voice and then presented him to Dionisio Rocha, who introduced him to the "Kutonokas" (shows performed in the suburbs of Luanda).
With lyrics with very politicized content, only in the last of his short life,David Zé defended at the time the revolution.his songs were containing an ideological and nationalistic character whether talking about MPLA or about Agostinho Neto.
He died during the sad episodes of the very ill-explained coup d'état of May 27, 1977.
