I'm a beginner at tennis but I can totally say that your vids are awesome. The editing and filming is great, you're also a great talker and the content is of really really good quality. Hope your channel grows, you guys deserve it!
I really liked this one for about 30 minutes before it seized up like syngut and then broke in under 2 hours. Strung at 50. Def great feel and playability initially but idk how anyone will decide to commit to a reel of Mako given the durability issues. Happy GS is innovating so much tho!
Just gonna add because you’re talking about m8, I shared your sentiments that it’s the best string I’ve ever used as far as marrying feel, snapback, and playability before breaking… but I also broke it in under 2 hour in 16gauge. Most poly lasts me about 4 hours. I really love a lot of what GS is doing but am sad I can’t commit to reels due to the early breakages. Not sure if others have found that to be an issue tho.
That’s strange. Most 16 polys last me around 6-8hrs, but M8 has been the standout. Ive been playing with half a reel, and the result is consistent. Outlasting tourbite, hyper g, rpm. How many sets of m8 have you gone through? If it’s your first and only then it must be a qc issue
@@dmnfilms6040 Just the one set so obv what youre saying is possible. But it's in keeping with the typical bounds for me; I usually break Ts7 130 in about 2 hours too which everyone says is mega durable. I have found poly hybrids optimized for tension maintanance and low string-string friction to last me much longer (4-6 hours). The only strings that have lasted me that long in full bed are cyclone tour 130 and ice code 130. Granted, I haven't tried a ton of full beds lately because of the early breaks. I tried m8 initially hoping it would be my full bed solution bc hybriding is so complicated. I'd be down to give it another go or try it in a hybrid because I really love the string otherwise.
@@ddhunter-mr1cm I guess you just have to live with the fact that you break strings lol M8 isn't no fragile yonex, you just break strings lol Man.. try rpm blast(main) and M8(cross) that hybrid is magical. I find full bed m8 can be a little launchy if you don't fully swing out then I tried the rpm hybrid and it is perfect. the touch you have from rpm and m8 is the best Ive felt in my tennis career. The only flaw is when the rpm dies, the performance drops significantly. But if you pop it under 3hrs then it should be no problem.
Yeah that’s fair it’s not gonna be the same for everyone. I just felt like m8 played really think for the gauge and lost its elasticity faster than advertised and broke soon after. Pretty avg for ability for a 16g for me. Rpm x m8 would be cool and m8 seems like a good cross overall. I tend to like stiffer but slick crosses like rpm rough though cause these power crosses get so launchy as you lose tension. Fav setups rn are hyper-g 125 52/60 rpm rough 130 and confidential 130 52/56 wasabi x.
Hi, I am a intermediate player and I started playing tennis again after a year break. I played with Velocity MLT before because it is more forgiving and more comfortable than a poly string. I really wanted to move to poly strings, so after I watched your video I gave Mako a try at 42lbs . In the end I really liked Mako, it is less forgiving than Velocity MLT and I need to work on my swing speed to make the strings work, but on the long run it will help me to improve my game. Thank you for the content you creating, your videos are really good, informative and fun to watch! P.S.:Have anyone tried Mako as main with Restring Zero or Tour M8 as cross to increase the durability and add a little bit more spin? Which combination would fit more to a intermediate player like me? Thanks!
@@TennCom using RF 01, alpha plays great with it at 50lbs. Tried other soft strings like ytex but it’s not good for rf 01. Any other string you recommened that is soft?
Any thoughts on Solinco Outlast compared to Tour Mako, or any other round string? I'm still pretty annoyed about Solinco pushing Hyper-G Round when Outlast has a crisper feel, and arguably better playability. Not sure if it would have enough power for what you're looking for, but the popping sound it makes off of the stringbed is so addictive, and tricks me into thinking my shots have more pop. Just wondering what you think of this string since I think you sell Solinco strings now. To me, Outlast is to 4G as something like Kirschbaum Max Power is to ALU power, only it doesn't feel like a cheap string for the price.
Yeah I tried Outlast last Summer and it felt quite dead and boardy in my Whiteout. Definitely less forgiving in a full than Hyper-G for me as I couldn't get power outside the sweetspot. Mako is significantly more powerful and less durable than Outlast. More powerful than Polytour Pro or pretty much any round poly I've tried.
vsquare is absolutely elite. top of the charts in both slickness AND ball bite. Only issue is durability but man, vsquare 125/wilson revolve 130 is a top 5 stringbed for me all time. and even lasted me about 4 hours as a heavy strung breaker.
Beckett, I've come across a few strings with approximately the same "abrassive" surface - I call it "gummy" feel upon contant. The seem to dig into each other rather quickly and wouldn't last more than 3 sessions, but at the same time, this "gummy" feeling string surface is the best for flat hitting as they can redirect all kinds of incoming balls at will.
Currency conversion adds 35% plus the import fees/duties we pay to bring the strings in. I wish I could offer it for less but at least it's still cheaper than a set of ALU Power.
Apparently, tension loss and durability have been a problem for people who reviewed Mako. Like Alu Power, but even more fragile. A full bed of these might be a pass, but it has potential in being a "gut" replacement main string with a spin poly cross hybrid set a la Roger Federer.
For me the playability over time was much much better with Mako compared to ALU Power. With ALU I cannot get more than 1 hour of decent topspin. With Mako it was still pretty playable after 5h but the notching was so bad I decided to cut it out before it broke on court. I don't really understand the complaints with tension loss on Mako since my ERT300 noted that it was perfectly fine and I didn't feel any loss of control that I would attribute to tension loss. Loss of control from significant notching pretty early? Yes for sure, but no tension loss.
@@allainangcao28 Pure Aero Rafa super open pattern plus I hit more spin than your average player so I'm pretty hard on strings in general. Regardless of the string, I always notch it at least a little bit on the first hit.
I put this in my Blade V9 18x20 at 46/44lb and I think I would have liked it quite a bit more if I had it strung a little higher tension. I do get how it could be compared to a hybrid setup because it also reminds me of Triax, probably because of the texture. My favorite strings right now are O-Toro and 4G (for different reasons obviously) but I think Mako is also worth trying again at like 48 or 49lb probably? Just because it gives a really nice hitting sensation esp for big serves. I feel like the texture on the strings really lets you feel what's going on with the ball in a satisfying and different way than slick shaped string would. The color also looks super sick in my Blade which is arguably more important.
I think the best play with Mako is probably to keep it as a main string and go for a firmer, slippery round cross to help with snapback and improve durability. I've being experiment with O-Toro mains and Sync crosses and the whole setup is much crisper and less mushy than a full bed of O-Toro. I'm guess that the same would happen with Mako but tbd. I'll make another vid on hybrid poly's soon
@@jean-pierreuys1554 it's comfortable and gives me good access to spin with a nice pocketing sensation which is basically everything i want in a string, give or take some qualities depending on the racquet or if i'm in the mood for 4G

I do like it quite a bit when fresh but I found the tension loss to be pretty severe.
Try Mako on the gross with M8 in the mains.
Currently im using alpha. Planning to try m8. I like the alpha because it is soft for my wrist and golfer’s elbow. How is compared to M8?
IMO Alpha plays softer. You can probably drop the tension on M8 but 3lbs compared to Alpha and still retain control to help soften things up.

I LOVE M8 but I wish it had a touch more pop and a bit more ball bite. Maybe Mako mains with M8 cross = 🐐 poly hybrid.
That would be legendary but dangerous. Your opponents may suffer many winners being hit against them.
maybe it was the music/colours but for some reason this review made me think of the movie The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai:)
