you're probably using an active bass here. can you make strings comparison on passive basses too?

I work at United Wire in Constantia NY and supply moist of these companies with their nickel plated, stainless steel, brass, phos bronze, silver plated copper, pure and fine silver wrap wire. D'Addario is a huge company! Bt far one of the best and biggest out there. We draw the wire to the correct size, then aneal in in long ovens it runs through and i pack it and ship it to the customers. We ship to SIT strings, DR strings, E.O. Mari who makes La'Bella strings, GHS, String Joy, Martin, Augustine Curt Mangden, and a few places over seas. Ernie Ball makes their own wire. D'Addario beat their record sales a few months ago by 30 million above what they usually make in one month. Just so you get a idea of how big they are. I think they also make strings for some of these other companies that put their names on them. So i agree with those who picked D'Addario. I play bass also and that's all i use on Spector.

To me, this really shows that there isn't much difference between them all. Thank you.

Agree 100% but they will FEEL different and change tone over time. Sadly a review can’t give us those answers.

I agree. There seemed to be more of a pronounced difference between the stainless steel strings.

By far the best string(s) comparison video I've seen. D'addario NYXL for the win, Thanks 👊🏾

I actually work at Untied Wire in Constantia NY and supply the wrap wire fur D'Addario and most thes eother companies. D'Addario is one of the biggest companies out there. We draw the wire down to size and aneal it in these long ovens. Really cool process. I agree with you on your assessment.

Great comparison. I usually play flats but this video really shows how little differences there are between most brands in sound. Feel of alot of these is quite different from memory

I wasn't a big fun of D'Addario strings, but after this video I am! Both of them sounds very good. Ernie Ball strings sounds good to me too. By the way, you make perfect job with your videos.

Cool comparison. My personal favorites are d’adarrio nickel wound and nyxl, Dunlop, Dr sunbeam, rotosound, Ghs, and sadowsky.

A useful comparison. There were real differences between some of the string sets.
Some were much more even across all five strings (Markbass, Sadowsky), while others had a low B that sounded distinctly different from the other strings. The D'Addario XLs and Ernie Balls seem to be great all-rounders, but some of the sets sounded distinctly better in some styles than others: the D'Addario NYXLs, DR Sunbeams and Rotosounds seemed to like the pick style, for example, while others seemed better suited to slap. The GHS Boomers have a distinct sound, which I think will divide players.
One other point: the sets that had a 130 low B definitely seemed to have a tighter and clearer bottom end than the 125 sets. I wouldn't have thought that such a small increase in diameter (4%) would show much of an audible difference.

I put Markbass strings on one of my 4-string basses, and they felt and sounded the best ever. Now I am thinking of switching bass strings to Markbass from R.Cocco. Thanks again for the introduction.

@@KInoue-it6kg Richard Cocco works for E.O. Mari at La'Bella strings. We sell him a lot of their wrap wire. I didn't know he was with Markbass. Thanks for this comment

Most of these sound only marginally different (except the Rotos, which sounded dull to my ears and, in my experience, last about 5 minutes before they're dead). IMO, D'Addario NYXLs were the clear winner (best clarity, growl, definition), but at $30 a pack vs. the cheapest strings (SITs?), I could easily live with EB Slinkys or D'Addario EXLs and be perfectly happy with a little more amp EQ.

Ernie Ball would be the best compromise. Sadowsky Blue Label another good choice. Dunlop - best for slapping, but modest for the rest.

As with the stainless steel shootout, the differences between all of these strings are so minor that they would be instantly obliterated by my hands on the amp controls. I could happily use any of these strings, but since over the years, I've mostly used D'Addario, Ernie Ball, and Rotosound, I see no reason to change from those three brands. That being said, I like the differences I'm hearing between the D'Addario XL and NYXL. I'm going to look into the NYXL a little more, and maybe move to those instead of the standard XLs (which still sound great) when I get a new fretted bass. I'd love to hear a new version of this with some of the newer alloys included, like the Ernie Ball Cobalt and Rotosound Ultramag.

The sunbeams are not the best with passive alder-rosewood use in this vidéo but great for fingers on ash-full Maple combo.
I don't find Pure Blues dull or weak at all... My first choice with Sadowsky... Longevity with DR are far away superior to most of the strings here !

Hi Max, it's a passive 5 String Jazz Bass. We thought that everybody is familiar with this kind of sound and therefore it's a good choice.
