0:32 - never heard that natural harmonic ringing out before, nice. 0:45-47 - great hearing Cliff's hand slide up the frets. 2:01 - treble on the rhythm guitar down-picking is great. Can we start a Petition / Go Fund Me to just have Andy remix their entire catologue?!?! FRFR !! That bass is making the grind bump like never before!! Stellar job as always
Although it does sound great, I'm so used to the original... That's my fault. It can kinda sound distracting. It's way worse for me if you add bass to AJFA album.
My two cents: the rumble of the open E at the beginning sounds much more full and deep. Listen to 0:32, for example: You have the steel strings and bass playing in unison, which sounds massive. This owes itself, in part, to the bass being boosted; it's much more audible, now. Before, it wasn't, and those opening notes sounded much more hollow, like a cathedral. Now that church is stuffed with sound. Whereas before the bass would only really appear during the main riff and the bridge, here, it's everywhere; it simply gets louder during the chorus. At 2:13, you can hear it play *with* the solo; at 3:07, you can hear it alongside those rising down-strokes that lead up to the chorus. In the original, I don't recall that level of clarity and volume (the lead guitars were much louder, and the bass was too quiet). The song has a base, a foundation that envelopes. The drums and guitars benefit from the mix, as well. The palm-muting at 2:01 sounds clearer than before. The toms at 3:05 sound boosted, but not because they are simply louder. There's a bit of padding to them, less of a sharpness compared to the original mix. They no longer whisper and cut, but pound and boom. During the chorus riff, one can hear all of the instruments playing together. In the original, it was mostly jagged guitars and piercing drums. Now, there's a lot more going on all at once. James sounds surrounded, walled in. However, there's more space than ever between those walls, more muscularity to the sonic attack. During the solo, I can hear everything: the crash cymbals, the rhythm, Kirk's solo. It's a little disorienting at first. There's also more to appreciate. The song can throw its weight around. After the solo, the unison leads almost have to rise out of the bottom-end, as if they're trying to escape. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but it sounds pretty cool: the end of the third solo marks our liberation, and Kirk's final notes echo into the void. Speaking of Kirk, when his second solo ends, the reverb might have a bit more delay on it? It has kind of a sudden, "bat-like" swoop to it, dive-bombing my head. All in all, this sounds pretty different from the original song. Less lean, meatier, it's the aural equivalent of stepping into the ring with Tyson, not Hagler. Still, the ring remains spacious, the fighter, "as agile as an ape" (to paraphrase Richard Connell). Well done!

I always loved the dueling guitar section just after the first solo at 4:52. Cliff does absolutely stellar work there. It's awesome to be able to hear it so clearly. Excellent work.
I have heard this song probably a hundred times before, and I always thought that bass pickup at 00:36 was a single note, echoing Lars. And now I hear it's a fully-defined, lovely slide that perfectly compliments what the guitars are doing, and it's SO CLEAR. That's just one thing out of so many that I've never heard before. These mixes are incredible.
I listened to this song every morning before school while in highschool. It was my time to wake up and embrace another boring ass day song. I love this song easily one of my top 5 Metallica songs and top 10 for all music period.
Ahdy, this is excellent. You've managed to do a remix and master that actually is far superior to the original. I wish Metallica had done this themselves. The clarity is exceptional, the levels well-judged, technically excellent, all while keeping it faithful to the original mix. Nicely done.
This has never been a favorite of mine, but I have a startling new appreciation for it after hearing your mix! That's the wonderful thing about your channel - you help people experience familiar things in bold new ways that only deepen the love and enjoyment we feel. When I hear a mix like this and realize how much was going on in the original recording, it makes me appreciate the brilliance of Metallica, but also makes me wonder why they would "settle" for a final mix that buries or obscures so much of what they accomplished in the studio. I know that's totally subjective. Anyway - good work! Thanks for all you do!
Because when metallica was in its early stages, their lead guitar and voice was Dave Mustain, but due to drugs/heavy drinking, the band kicked him out. He hated that and created the band Megadeth. Metallica kinda screwed themselves over because Dave wrote well over 75% of their material and they blatantly stole the lyrics and sometimes entire guitar solos. Dave also made the album covers for Metallica, so if you look at album covers from each, you'll start to see some resemblance in the art style. While Metalica ended up with someone with a better voice, No one in metallic could really match up with Dave's guitar skills and so a lot of their songs give off a high speed thresh vibe. They still haven't patched things up. Anyways people want megadeth songs because their harder to remaster because the guitar riffs from megadeth are (mostly personal preference.) better, but the voice could always use a tune up by our lord and savior, Ahdy!

Welcome to where time stands still

No locked doors, no windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred

Can't they see it's why my brain says rage

Build my fear of what's out there
And cannot breathe the open air
Whisper things into my brain
Assuring me that I'm insane

But violent use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
He's getting better, can't you tell?
No more can they keep us in

But they think this saves us from our Hell
