I'm so happy that these two got their happy ending, and the writers didn't decide to kill one of them off or split them up permanently. This is now right up there as one of THE fav love story for me.
The Max and Iago story, from the Catalan tv soap series, The Heart of the City, rises above the numerous other gay storylines on the small screen around the world. Firstly, it’s rare for us to watch a character like Max grow up in front of us from the age of 14 to 23, tracking his emergence as a gay youth and his first high school crush to his first boyfriend before the all consuming passion of the love of his life arrives in the form of Iago. Secondly, this is a love story of the new century, not preoccupied with angst of coming out, but telling instead a different tale about how two openly-gay men connect with each other, and the creation of bonds between them comprising passion, love and commitment.
Most gay men will recognise the singular strength of Max to stand up for his identity and to assert his right to love and be loved, rights which society automatically endows to straight boys and girls. It’s from Max’s determination and sureness of his right to love, that his life path leads him to Iago. Ultimately, also, because of Max and his emergence as a confident gay young man, this story is about the redemption of the flawed heart-throb. His great love, Iago, has a disturbed adolescent background and the series, to its credit, doesn’t shirk the issue of how juvenile offenders, educated in the way of crime, and stigmatized by the community, struggle to emerge from it unless they have strong support- or in this case, the complete dedication of his partner, Max. And the ending suggests our legal systems do more to hamper rather than help an offender’s rehabilitation.
The story resonated with me also because of the performance of the actors and the work of the production team. Despite the significant difference in their experience as actors (Bernat Quintana had been in the series 8 years before Marc Clotet arrived), the chemistry between Mr Quintana as Max, and Mr Clotet as Iago made the relationship believable; and despite the characteristic and often annoying habit of tv soaps to place actors in 2 dimensions and to begin scenes with unnatural dialogue comprising plot recapitulations, there were moments of filmic quality, comprising sympathetic camera movement, wordless action, and the use of music that both localised and enhanced the key emotional junctions. As others have also said, it’s a story that will stay with me.
If it’s true to say that television stories mirror the progress of gay life today, the ending of the Max & Iago story seems as near-perfect as one could hope - but in a final gesture to the never-ending aspect of tv soaps, there is enough left at the end to tell us their troubles are not over; we think and hope they will prosper together, and their struggle to be together encourages us to believe they will succeed. I wish it so.
very well written McManpa - those points you make are the ones that made me fall in love with these characters and their story - to have a gay couple presented to us in this manner, allowing us to enjoy the clean and true love we saw they had for each other, to not be stigmatize due to their sexual preference, presented delicately in the environment of a country and a city that is very open minded allowed the LOVE to be the one that reigned between these two. Acting was just sublime, the quiet moments were no words were needed between Clotet and Quintana and the subtle and natural way that we saw their love and loyalty grow- from the magic in Iago's eyes when he sees his love corresponded from this boy he is starting to admire and respect, to the risk-taking-level-headed-objective Max that allows himself get carried away - to the heart breaking moments in the absence of Max as he leaves to find himself, to the emotional turmoil that we see Iago experience and he waits and waits and never really gives up - magical. I hold this story very close to my heart, I have to thank a very special lady for convincing me to watch it and now, many moons after the first time I watched it, I still smile, I still ache, I still cry, I still love these two - cheers

You certainly have a way with words. Love how you describe both Max and Iago and their love story.
And I agree with you about the believability and chemistry from Bernat Quintana and Marc Clotet.
Because in spite of their struggles and heartbreaking moments, the passion and feelings between Max and Iago prevailed.
This is an inspiring love story because in the face of such adversity they overcame.
A story of such a strong and enduring love that I will come back time and time again to watch.
A soap gay love story with a happy ending?! Who'd believe it eh........
Iago and Max love story is definitely one of the top 5 gay romances I've ever seen. The twists, turns, the angst, the pain, the love, passion just a great story.
Finally, a f**king happy ending and triumph for gay storylines. I agree with cuchelo 1. It would have been nice that the judge gave him a real second chance. Sort of stupid to retread that storyline. But, hey, this IS a soap opera. Great acting. I believe that they were really in love. Sad to see it end. But, happy that I found this. Thank you to the translator and evama 1977 for posting this in its entirety. I watched this all day long. Amazing. As gay man, it is hard to find a positive loving image of us anywhere. This was a breath of fresh air. No cheating, drug problems, coming out stories. Real character developments here. I agree with most comments: I AM SMILING FROM EAR TO EAR.
Definitely one of the best gay couples I have ever seen. Their acting was just awesome, and the actors have amazing chemistry! When they kissed or held each other.... you forget that they are acting and just see two beautiful men in love. Shout out to the music too, got me teary eyed on more than one occasion lol. But alas now that I have finished the series i've got to deal with the max&iago cuteness withdraw....may take me a while lol
And so they ride off into the sunset. DAMN RIGHT. Loved these characters, I'm glad I decided to give this a try. Absolutely worth it.
The end of one of the greatest love stories I've ever seen. I love Iago. Have since he first appeared. But Max...Oh, Max. I love him even more than before because I just watched all his scenes since he first appeared on the show. I saw the evolution of his character, the actor actually age with the show. He's a complex character for sure. Brilliant acting from Bernat Quintana. I've seen the Max & Iago storyline 4 times now from start to finish.
I am very happy with the ending.

O my God....... Love this two to death...... As a lawyer and knowing the implications of what they did I still don't care and I ship them to death..... One of the few series that doesn't make gay people miserable

What a terrific and happy ending to a really great gay soap opera. There is nothing else like it anywhere, and for the period it was made, this love story is absolutely groundbreaking and exceptional. One couldn't wish for more, that Max and Iago live together happily ever after. As others have pointed out, this was not about coming out, not about dealing with homophobia, rather it was the story of confident, handsome, sexy, young, proud and unashamedly gay men who find each other after a rocky start and form a loving, passionate and fulfilling relationship which to the credit of the neighborhood where they live, is accepted without question. They hug, they kiss, nobody bats an eyelid. Is it West Hollywood? No. It's Barcelona, for heaven's sake - and not a priest in site. God bless them both and the writers who created them and cast these two, especially the incredibly handsome Marc Clotet as Iago, in this really wonderful TV soap series.

Wow. When I started watching this, I was just bored and had nothing to do. I started with Max & Enric and finished with Max & Iago. First soap I have ever seen (not counting the ones on Telemundo) that I was interested in. I love this couple and the actors are fantastic. The things free time does to me! :)

I started watching this story a couple of times, but didn't finish. Then a few days ago, I found it again and this time I fell head over heels in love. The passion, the love, the connection between Max and Iago is so amazing. I laughed, I cried, I fumed...I went through every emotion with them. My heart broke when Max went away and to see him return burdened with the scars of everything that had happened to him was so sad. But then they found each other again. A couple truly made for each other.

We all dream of a love like Max and Iago's. Time and distance did nothing to stop them loving each other, however much they tried at times. And their passion is as strong as it was when they first met. I'm sad we can't see their happily ever after but am delighted that they are together and happy.

This is my second or third time watching this story, from beginning to end, and it still brings bittersweetness and happiness to me. :) Thanks a million for keeping these videos up. Lovely story. I had seen these floating around for years although not with subtitles, and I don't speak basic Spanish much less Catalan. I did pick up words from this and recommend it be incorporated into the Berlitz software. :)
Thank you for being dedicated to such an editing task and my thanks to the translators who did a good job of translating into colloquial English instead of formal English. The colloquial translation made it match the actions far better than formal English would.
wow...that was a nice story....i am happy to see Max & Iago together, but wud have rather loved to see them together with Beni....he has put in a lot of effort for the young couple.
i had decided to start learning spanish by the end of this year....but now i am hooked up to Catalan....wonderful translations as well, buddies, your translations really brought the essence of Catalan language and culture, i believe....a job well done....keep it up.

*sighs* That was nice... Just as nice as it was seeing Craig and JP leaving on the train to Dublin. Shame that now I have to find another awesome love story to follow. Christian and Ollie are still the best, but the writers have left them kind on the side for some time now.

I agree! A beautiful love story... a struggle that seemed would keep them apart, but finally, FINALLY even through breaking the law, I assume they lived happy ever after?! I hope so ... I only wish that Max had returned sooner so that they could have had more time together at the end. Both the actors who played Max and Iago were fantastic! They made the characters so believable and loving. When they looked at each other, it makes me melt.

Gracias por subir esta historia a youtube yo hace poco la vi toda sin parar y me enganche completamente en ella es sin duda una de las historias más hermosas de amor entre dos hombres me hizo tener todo tipo de emociones, llore, reí, me asuste en las escenas con Radovan fue mejor dicho una montaña rusa de emociones y en estos momentos que termine de verla quede con ganas de que nunca se acabara, pero bueno toda historia tiene su final; definitivamente Max y Iago son la mejor pareja que he visto y este fue un amor que no tiene comparacion, yo sinceramente doy un gran aplauso porque estas historias son las que paga la pena verlas.
Confieso que estoy llorando porque yo quería ver que más pasaba, la historia está tan bien hecha que sería fabuloso que la hubieran alargado más, y sin dudas el personaje que más me gusto y del que me enamore fue Iago, porque al principio era el chico malo, sexy y con mañas, pero con el pasar de la historia evoluciono completamente y se volvió un hombre honesto, sencillo, humilde y muy enamorado de su Max y me dio mucho pesar de ver como sufría Iago por la ausencia de su novio, pero bueno al final triunfó el amor verdadero y fue un final inesperado pero feliz...
Por cierto sabes como se llama el actor que interpretó a Iago, te agradecería mucho si me lo dijeras. Gracias y que viva el amor no importa sí es heterosexual u homosexual, ya que este sentimiento no distingue géneros...

Speaking of, I would have liked to have seen Enric in these final episodes. I don't know... just for some memories or something, heh. What I love about this ending is that it doesn't feel like an ending at all - it feels like a whole new beginning for these two therefore I'm not too bummed out it's over. Thanks so much for videos, as corny as it sounds, the story itself has inspired me but also watching them I gained a strong interest in foreign language & can even write/speak a bit of Catalan now =]
