- A new law aimed at finally getting Rwanda deportation flights off the ground is about to be passed by Parliament, two years after the policy was first announced.
Rishi Sunak believes deporting asylum-seekers who arrive in the UK illegally to Rwanda will reduce small boat crossings. Labour has vowed to scrap the policy, arguing it is a gimmick.
So will the plan really work? Could legal challenges tie the policy up in the courts again, as critics claim? And even if the flights get going, will they change the dynamics of the general election?

I don't understand that in the UK how an unelected leader is allowed to implement laws and changes without a democratic vote...

The people of the UK didn't vote for him to be PM, the party and it's members did.
@countryside_guy that is how ever PM has been chosen. Every system can be said to undemocratic. American presidents are not chosen by a simple majority of the people. Clinton won the popular vote. However, Tump gained the most electoral college vote and became president. The president is the only member of the US government that is elected by the people the rest are appointed.
There are many educational resources explaining how the UK political system works.
We should send Rishi to Rwanda what about that

Sunak is a liar, he has no intention of stopping the boats, he is all for them, the boats will never be stopped because that's the plan.
People who come to the UK in boats are clearly brave and resourceful - exactly what the UK needs now - we need to keep the refugees and deport anti-refugee racists to war zones instead.

The Rwanda bill will make absolutely no difference whatsoever, a total waste of Tax Payer money and resources! The only thing that will make a difference, is to turn the boats back, or pick them up in the Channel and safely return them to France! It is perfectly legal for us to do this, it just need a strong capable PM to carry it out!!

Let’s have a referendum on it. There is no mandate for Sunak to proceed with this policy which was not on the election manifesto in 2019. A referendum will sort it out. Went well the last time we had one didn’t it?

For ever person we send, Rwanda sends one back. That’s the deal and doesn’t reduce the numbers.
Also, I believe the immigrant can refuse to go, which means we will have to pay them to go.
That will increase the numbers crossing, not reduce the numbers.
The easiest answer is to return them all to French soil.
When they see they are paying people smugglers, just to return to square one, they will stop crossing the channel. Also, if legitimate means of applying for asylum and refugee status is available in France, then the only ones trying the crossing will be those who don’t have a legitimate reason to be here.

Why are they coming to UK in the first place? They should not be allowed to travel like this.
I am not sure they really want this bill to go through do they...then once the planes start leaving and the true cost of it comes to bear then it will be exposed as a terrible terrible ineffective policy.
