"'As you wish' means 'I love you', he was telling he grandson that he loved him."
I am 40 years old. This movie was one of the first I ever saw, to the point that I cannot recall a time in my life where I had not seen this movie. I cannot remember my first time watching it, it has been a part of my life for that long.
And that had never occurred to me. Incredible after all this time this movie can find a way to bring me to tears.
    Thank you both.

The late, very great André the Giant was 7’ 4” tall and 520 lbs. - more or less. He was a very famous professional wrestler many years ago. Personally, he was one of the coolest guys ever. The entire cast of The Princess Bride loved him.

He drank A LOT too, many bottles of wine and/or beer lol but I’ve heard he was a really great guy. They say he was the nicest guy in and out of wrestling, too bad he became debilitated, in this movie they pretended he did a lot of things, even like catching Buttercup. His back was in terrible shape and it caused him a lot of pain, but they did really well making it seem like he did all those things.

Theres a funny video on youtube of Arnold Schwarzenegger recounting the story of the time he had dinner with Andre and they got in an argument about who would pay the bill - each of them wanted to pay. Andre ended the discussion by picking Arnie up and putting him on top of a cupboard in the restaurant, then paying the bill. Then he came back and lifted Arnie back off the cupboard. Theres a picture of them side by side and Arnie only comes up to Andre’s armpit. He’s massive. This was when Arnold was filming the second conan movie. Wilt chamberlain, who was in that movie, is in the picture and hes actually bigger than both of them. Arnie looks like a dwarf.

I should add that André's "official" height and weight have been disputed. His French passport listed him an under 7' 2". Some have claimed that he was only 7' tall and even shorter. It is known that due to André's unfortunate issues with his spine, he shrank in height over the years.

@@MetastaticMaladies There is a video on YT with Rob Reiner recounting the day they were filming the final scene where they ride off on the horses. It was the 3rd Thursday in November which is the day the Beaujolais Nouveau is released in France and is close to a national holiday for Frenchmen. Andre' arranged to have a couple of cases delivered to him on the set that morning. He was too heavy for his horse so they had him rigged to the ceiling so they could lower him onto the horse but keep his full weight supported by the rigging. Andre' had already downed a couple of bottles when Reiner walked onto the set. He looked up and there was this 500lb. drunken giant hanging from the ceiling with a bottle in one hand and a wine glass in the other calling out "Hello Boss!" Found it: ua-cam.com/video/SfYt6Y6vrOI/v-deo.html

This was one of the first movies I showed my wife when we met. I cooked her dinner, was hitting her with the ''As you wish'' all day long and she had no idea why. Our daughter is 5 and we cannot wait to show it to her when she's a bit older. I competed in HEMA(Historical European Martial Arts) with a Longsword for 10 years so I love any movie with swordplay.

Fun Fact! While promoting this movie Cary Elwes was asked (IIR it was on David Letterman) if there were any roles he wanted to do next and Elwes said he wanted to play Tony Stark in a live action Iron Man movie. The host and audience laughed uncomfortably because almost no one knew who Iron Man was back then.

True. But not in a "foreign kidnappers have murdered my fiancee" kind of angry. Having your fiancee murdered is not an "irritation" or an "inconvenience"- or it shouldn't be. This is a line that first shows how little Humperdinck cares for Buttercup.

A little trivia (if you haven’t yet heard it): Mandy Patinkin (the Spaniard) - the actor - his father had passed away shortly before (or during?) the filming of this movie. When he said the line, “I want my father back, you sonofabitch,” he FELT it. Quite beautiful.

btw the grandson, who is sick and having the book read to him by his grandfather, also played the main character in a TV show I grew up with in the late 80s, early 90s, called The Wonder Years. You guys should watch that. The only thing that sucks about it watching it today is that apparently they had to change out all the classic music that was in that show, because they couldn't afford to compensate the original artists, so it has substitute music. But it's a coming of age story about him. 🙂

Great Reaction..... Everyone comments about how "Over the Top" this movie is and how useless Buttercup is.... Reminder, You are watching this from the Imagination of an 8 year old boy who is listening to a story.......
The Grandfather is best known for his role "Columbo" a Detective TV movie series in the 1970's...
The Grandson was the lead from the TV show "Wonder Years"......
Buttercup would later play Jenny in "Forest Gump"......
Fesik is played by Professional Wrestler Andre the Giant, He Past Away to Young at Age 46.....
The Cliff-Top Duel was practiced by Wesley & Indigo, through-out the filming and one of the last things filmed..... And is considered one of the best filmed duels in movie history, and all but the gymnastic flips is the actual actors.....
When 6-Fingered Man hit Wesley on the Head, it was a real hit and put the actor for Wesley in the hospital....
The Director had to leave the set when Filming the Miracle Max scenes cause the Actor Billy Crystal kept making him laugh....
If you notice, when Indigo delivers the line "I want my Father Back...." the actor drops the spanish accent, one reason is he was channeling how he felt about loosing his Father to Cancer.....

A wonderful reaction. My Granddad used to hire this film from the video store every now and again, and we would always enjoy rewatching it together. Great times. It was the last film I sat down with him to watch (again) before he passed. The film has a special place in my heart. ❤

Nice reaction. Jyn, you did do something a lot of younger youtube reactors do, you take everything too literally. You don't have space for magic, silliness and fairy tales. You watch the story as if it's happening in the real world. I think this is quite common for young people now, probably because the world is so harsh. Ryl allowed herself to enter the fairy tale headspace a bit more, and as a consequence she enjoyed it more and she picked up more of the jokes.

ooh this is one of my favorite movies. and you two are beautiful as ever 🙂 the XO on my 1st submarine had a voice that sounded just like the short bald bad guy at the beginning of the movie. We were always trying to get him to say "inconceivable" lmao 🙂 he was cool though, everybody liked him, great leader with great tactical ideas too. 🙂 (the XO is the 2nd in command under the Captain. Like Spock or Riker on Star Trek.)

Another fave movie of mine, ladies. ❤
There's one very serious line in the middle that is very central to the book 📖 "Life is pain. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something." I was wondering what you ladies might say about that. Would you agree?

Looking so forward to seeing this reaction. Excellent choice! Just to keep it fresh in your minds, I still have seen zero reaction channels react to In America. I don’t believe I’m over-selling it. Honestly I don’t know what anyone else thinks about it, but I would love to know. Maybe I have awful taste, but I kinda doubt it cuz I love your content and you love great movies! I’m off to continue watching your journey thru this iconic film.

15:38 - "put out" means "mildly inconvenienced." "I was supposed to meet my friend at six o'clock, but he didn't show up until almost six twenty. I was very put out." It is a ridiculous understatement revealing how much Humperdinck truly does not love Buttercup. In context, assuming at this point in the narrative that his love is genuine, it is reasonable to infer that it means "angry," but it does not. It's a phrase that I think used to be more common, but I haven't heard it in real conversation for some time; it's kind of gone out of fashion, especially among young people. So it's no surprise you haven't heard it before. But that's what it means- in case you feel like sliding it into a conversation.

Lol ok first, this movie is a story being read to the kid. The movie is all in the boys head…it’s what he’s imagining as it’s being read to him. Second, Buttercup back then wouldn’t have “helped”. She wouldn’t have ever held a sword & he just got done saying he was the dread pirate Roberts - no woman wouldn’t’ve “rescued” the man. But again - this is all in the boy’s mind anyway.😉
