- Welcome to Codenames! We're split up into two teams and have to guess our "secret" words before the opposing team. Each team has a spymaster who can see the entire board. The spymaster comes up with a word or phrase that can link as many correct words together as possible WITHOUT linking the opposing team's words. And if the gray word is chosen by either team, it's game over. Super fun game. I love being spymaster and losing my mind listening to my teammates figuring it out lol. Feels very much like being dead in Among Us and shouting at my computer monitor. Enjoy!

My favourite part is Ze talking to chat about a clue and Jeremy in the background saying "and the final problem with eating sloths is..." I didn't hear any of his reasons, but I'm glad he has several?
So I strained to hear his reasons cuz of this comment. Some were not a lot of meat on a sloth, all dark meat, and tough, chewy meat.
Don't know if he said it, but also generally sloths are not nutritious to eat.
I really admire Cheesy for always swinging for the fences with his Spymaster clues. It's never just trying to get 3 or 4 answers. It's always wild shit like 'Liberal 5' or 'Adventure Time 8'.

The complete and utter lack of knowledge Cheesy demonstrates on virtually every topic is endlessly entertaining.
I'll just assume that he knows a metric shit-ton about a few specific topics, because nothing else could justify it.
Honestly, not to diagnose him, but I have ADHD and I follow his train of thought fairly well. It's usually not right in codenames, but I follow it for sure.

I could literally feel the pain Ze felt when they said Spider and New Year for Risk 4.
This is why I love Codenames so much though. The random thoughts just make it funny.
Risk was a great clue for all 4 too, because in regards to minute, you could go with time or minutemen(the individual soldier pieces)
They thought of New Year with "Risk" but didn't think of New Year with freaking TRAVEL
Tinkerer was such a good clue. Ze almost messed it up by changing it, but it still got the job done.
I was thinking Alchemist, especially after they already clicked Gold.

@@escarche9917 It wouldn't work as well. There are examples of dwarven alchemists in fantasy fiction, but smiths and tinkerers are waaaay more iconic/archetypal.

Fun facts:
Laser is actually an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, so I assume it has a slightly radioactive element. Most things with lasers even have radiation warning on them.
Filaments in light bulbs are made of the element Tungsten
Most lasers aren't radioactive. They emit electromagnetic radiation, which is light. The radiation warnings are for high frequency light such as UV rays.

Old school or very high powered lasers would have some kind of crystal, gas or fluid with very discrete atomic energy levels, which in resonance emit a constant radiation with a discrete wavelength, most that are used today range from UV-lasers to Masers (microwave lasers).
There is practically no radioactive stuff going on with modern Lasers, maybe with very old ones though, I don't know too much about the first lasers
Visible light, and what we think of as "harmful radiation", are just different levels of energy. LASER devices use energy levels that are far below "harmful radiation".

Platy's clues are so confusing. When I saw "Element" I thought of different possibilities. Element of surprise? Doesn't fit. Cast works if you think of elemental magic. Pool is filled with water, which is a magic element.

For the record, the Democrat party was never Conservative, Ze. They just weren't always as Liberal as they are now, and the term 'Liberal' has taken on a whole new meaning. Did you know it just used to mean "accepting of the opinions of others"?
@@Eli-uu4vt Small correction: prior to roughly the 1980's, both parties had relatively robust liberal and conservative factions, and they only really 'lost' them following the mid-2000's
The Democrats used to be split between conservative Southern Dems, and liberal Northern Dems, while Republicans were split between urban liberals and rural conservatives. It wasn't until after the Civil Rights Era that Republican campaigns started campaigning to win over disaffected Conservative Southern Dems, which in turn created a snow-ball effect: the more power the conservative wing of the Republicans got, the more liberals were pushed out of it into the Democratic party.
So there have been definite stretches where the Democratic party was more conservative than not.

Watching your vids of this made me wanna play this with my friends- I regretted it immensely as soon as it started.
I made my friends play this over Zoom for my birthday and they were all really good and efficient at it and we didn't get any of the fun chaos I was expecting! I suspect you need a Cheesy and a Platy to generate the chaos
With this group the only fair way to play it to have Chilled and Cheesy playing against each other as Spymasters, so everyone is equally confused by the absolute moon logic!
Vilain in French isn't used the same way as it is in English and Spanish. All of the words comes from the Latin Villanus (a farmhand) where urban folks in ancient times tended to have some pretty awful views on rural folks. French has kept a meaning much closer to the original Latin where it refers to a free peasant rather than a serf. In modern French it can be used as an adjective with a closer meaning to English and Spanish, however, that would be the equivalent of naughty or misbehaved, often used to describe the behavior of young children. A naughty boy would thus also be a vilain as a noun in modern French context.

The term liberal doesn't make alot of sense with American politics. Neolibs exist in both parties and most republican's are espousing a liberal framework, as are alot of Democrats. It's not really a term that is properly used anymore
One could argue most terms in modern politics in most countries don't get used properly.

24:15 the reason I believe they chose mark is because of a popular book by author Rick Riordan named The Mark of Athena, which they probably heard about one way or another and that’s what made them all agree on it

there were i believe two flips in a sense. the first which was ideological was sometime after the presidency of Abraham Lincoln as the southern states that were brought back into union control declared party affiliation to the democratic party as a middle finger to Lincoln as he was a declared republican hence why some people (usually older individuals) are keen to note the difference between a southern democrat and a "true democrat". according to most sources this shift wouldn't finalize until sometime after the 1920s as the ideology of the republican party (the younger of the two parties) would become more synonomous with the general tendency towards personal liberty and reduced government presence/ influence
the democratic party as it exists today is more or less diametrically opposed to this as their ideological approach to government is centered around emphasized social safety and control through greater government presence/ influence
and this is how the two party system of the US has functioned for about a century now, trying to find a compromise to achieve the right balance of personal liberty and social safety and the reason why people argue all the time over which is better is because people value those things differently. some people want to be safer, others want more personal freedom and with the way social structure works, you can't realistically have more of one without sacrificing some of the other.
there was a second flip of sorts during the cold war as color television became a more prominent player in how information and ideas were spread in the US and since the color red is most often asociated with an enemy, neither parties wanted to be red. ultimately, the democratic party made a bigger stink about it and republicans ended up as the color red and since roughly the year 2000 that red and blue tradition has been more or less consolidated into the public psyche as the definitive party colors
And that's why we need to vote Gold, and break open the 2 party system that people get stuck too. Because it's two parties people always that's one is right and the other is wrong, can't really think that way when there are 3 different parties.

Also, @Agan missed the major timeline for the primary shift in party ideology, which occurred from 1940s through the 80's: prior to the 1930's, the Republicans were the part of Civil Rights, due to their opposition to slavery, while Democrats favored state's rights. Both parties contained liberals and conservatives. But in the 40's, Harry Truman (a Democrat), made a push for Civil Rights as a way to make the Republican congress look bad: "see, they hate me so much they won't even pass THEIR OWN THINGS." This was then adopted by northern liberal Democrats, to the disgust and enragement of conservative Southern Dems, leading to a split in the party that would weaken them in multiple following elections, as the Southern Dems would split off a third-party candidate to run, who would only take a couple southern states, crippling Democrat electoral chances.
