Video text transcript
You will need
1. Your broken glasses
2. A bottle of pure acetone (available
at most hardware stores).
Carefully pour acetone into the cap of the bottle.
BEWARE: ACETONE IS VERY FLAMMABLE!.
Carefully set your broken glasses in the acetone.
Let the frame soak for 2 minutes.
After 2 minutes, take the glasses out of the acetone.
The acetone has softened the acetate, allowing you to fuse the glasses back together.
Apply equal pressure to both sides and hold the pieces together until they are stuck together without aid.
Now, the frame needs to dry for 24 hours.
24 hours later...
Once the glasses are dry, you may want to smooth the area where the glasses were fused together.
To do this, simply dip your finger in acetone and gently
rub out the uneven areas of the frame.
While doing this, be extremely careful not to spill acetone on the lenses, as this may ruin the lens coating.
We're here to help.

I love the sound of battle music while I’m trying to fix my glasses😂
It's litterally "The Battle" from Gladiator, right? Ah, Mr. Zimmer! So good!
@@jessicaf6358I’m pretty sure it’s from the pirates of the Caribbean!!
This is CRAZY AWESOME!!! This video saved me last night after my daughter accidentally broke my glasses in half, the same exact place these were broken in your video. I didn't have regular acetone, but I had some "extra strength" fingernail polish remover that was 96% acetone, so I tried it. I checked after 2 minutes, but it took a bit longer. I left them in it for about 10 minutes. I was AmAzEd when I took them out and touched them together....the plastic was "mushy", and fused together quickly and perfectly!! I am going to smooth out the fusion in a few minutes and save LOTS of money not having to go next week for a new pair of glasses!!! YOU ARE MY HERO!! THANKS SO MUCH!! 😀👍
Does it sticks for long time?
Did it hold up?
OMG I hope this works!
I also broke my glases and i can't tell my parents.... I m literally dead😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@Black_petals I just broke them rn, gona do this now
Brilliant. I fixed my broken glasses this way yesterday. Warning: Soaking the ends for 2 min is far too long, they nearly melted totally. I would say 20-30 seconds.
really?
Everyone came to this video squinting and trying to save their glasses.... and it said to let them dry for 24 hours.... lol I can’t see!
exactly. I have been trying to hold my glasses together with tape and putty for about 2 1/2 weeks already waiting for an exam and online purchase. IT'S KILLING ME!!!!! I don't wannnaaaa wear contacts and reading glasses all day. But I guess if I do it just before bed at least a few hours of drying time I will be sleeping.
Same here😂
Do it before bed, I’m trying it tonight. Sucks having to feel your way around smh lol
Did it work?@@SmiteKillzz
For people asking about using nail polish remover, yes it does work.
Takes more than 2 minutes though 😅
@@TheJaycal77how long?
@@Crazyfactsandfinds 15 min
Forget about dipping for 2 minutes, it's wayyyy to long. The bridge will melt badly. Be careful and just apply gently a little drop on both sides of the broken part with a Qtip, then join them at the right position and hold for a minute or two, they will stick softly. Let it dry. 24/48h later, apply a little drop over the joint, let it dry again, it will smooth it out evenly. It worked incredibly well on my old Ray Ban wayfarer by B&L. It's nearly impossible to see the joint. Forget about supeglue, it's breaking after a while even without force. With acetone you fuse back the two pieces together so it's the best way to go for a long lasting repair.
Trying this
Didn't work, needed 10 minutes with nail polish remover
I WENT TO A HIGH END GLASS SHOP TO ASK IF THEY CAN FIX THE BROKEN BRIDGE. THEY SAID NO. This was the same shop that fixed these very glasses before at the hinge. Old vintage true glass that were my mother-in-law’s.
I tried using nail polish remover with acetone wasn’t strong enough. I used 100 percent bought at a stone place. Awesome results. GOD BLESS YOU TRULY HAPPY, GLASSES MEANT A LOT TOO ME, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!
Thank you!!! Everyone I spoke to told me that it's "100% impossible" to fix a broken glasses bridge and I shouldn't waste my time trying to do it. I decided to try your fix as a last resort (I've been wearing my reading glasses while I'm looking for new frames for my distance glasses) and it worked! After I let them set for 24 hours they seemed totally solid but I decided to add a coat of clear epoxy on the bridge for extra strength, and now I'm wearing my glasses again. Thanks for your video!
I tried this and with 100% acetone polish remover, it starts melting in SECONDS so be careful. If I could do it again, I would use a q-tip soaked in it and melt that way as opposed to suspending each end in it. Worked really well though, little messy looking because it melted so fast but whatever.
I used this tip and it worked so well. I was able to control the acetone (I also used maximum strength acetone nail polish remover) and the speed of the plastic melting. Thanks for this suggestion!
Ha!
Video: Get acetone at your hardware store
Nail Art Queens: No, thanks. We got this. 💅
You meant nail polish remover?
It works! Many thanks for the tutorial. I was able to stick both halves together and later using a hair dryer bend the nose bridge in shape without it snapping in half again. Note that if you have a matte frame instead of a glossy one, the parts that come in contact with the acetone will become glossy.
Thank you! This video saved me. Snapped the bridge of my glasses, and they were too narrow to tape.
I couldn't wait 24 hours, so after the glasses set for about an hour, and put them in front of a hair dryer on low for a while, that I think sped the curing.
Bought the 100% acetone at Wal Mart.
I used nail polish remover with acetone listed as its first ingredient and it worked! I still have not let my glasses sit for 24 hours but for now they have fused! Thank you so much! That's $120 saved!
Really? Pure acetone Nail polish remover works too?
I let it sit overnight. I tested the strength by trying to adjust them and the bridge flexed normally.
Tldr 8hrs is fine
Im currently trying out this method. Im 13 and i dont have acetone in my house but after some research, i found out theres acetone in nail polish removers! I have 3 sisters and got hold of some and poured it into a smal cap and put my glasses in them. Its still in the process of softening the plactic and i'll continue once i've finished.
It worked for me too !!
Thanks for posting!!
I left it for one minute in the acetone and waited more then 24 hours before using my glasses. I use a small glass bowl in which I poor acetone, just enough to cover the bottom as the break was on the bridge few millimeter from the lens. Thankful for the warning to keep the acetone away from the lens!
My own experience would add to be mindful of not pushing too hard on both sides in a case of a broken bridge as the prescription is precise on the distance of the pupils. I push a bit hard as I wanted to be sure both parts would fuse and thus it changed the bridge width and stained one eye for a couple days. Now , after a week all is good!!
Valerie, this fix is only for pure acetate glasses. It would be best to check with Ray Ban to make sure your model is made of acetate (and not injection-molded plastic).
this worked! however, I suggest that you do not apply a lot of pressure because I did and the soft ends oozed. thank you so much for this fix! and the vid that tells how to tell if you have acrylic frames ( the nosepads are clear)
Good tip thanks
Ok, thank you so much!! I broke my glasses last night and have a new pair on the way but it will be a week before they arrive. I was going to be blind until then. I went to the hardware store and got a huge can of Acetone for $4.47 (it was the smallest bottle they had) and it worked magnificently. I did not even wait 24 hours, I put them after about 20 minutes so far so good (8 hours later). Thank you again! Perfect fix!
@patty22eddy Acetone is a flammable substance, so exercise caution when working with it! Acetone can also dry out your skin, but evaporates quickly so you need not worry about acetone having an adverse reaction to your skin, as long as you let the frame dry the recommended amount of time.
This method truly works. Thanks for the emergency fix until my replacement glasses come in!
Holy crap! Thank you so much! My glasses are currently sitting in the bathroom after seeming to fuse back together perfectly! My only hope is that it won't take a full 24 hours to dry, because I only have one pair of glasses, and I need to be at work in about 9.5 hours
Did it hold up
I have a really small head, so I tend to bend the arms to almost a 90 angle behind my ears. One of the arms cracked a little bit at the bent angle, and this was the perfect fix to get it to fuse back together.
Also, for anyone who reads the comment regarding the q-tip: be careful, because I used a cotton ball as a test run on an old pair of glasses, and the cotton fused in with the acetate, so maybe try something else other than cotton if you want to dab the acetate with acetone rather than soak it for a few seconds. Only soak it for 15 seconds and then check on it because mine melted very quickly.
Great video & awesome tips. Thank you so much!!!
This worked wonderfully! Thank you!! My glasses broke this morning and its nighttime now and theyre perfectly fine. Theyre just unaligned LOL my own fault though. I did this with nail polish remover at 98% acetone, soaked for 1.5 minutes and it worked well
Oh my gosh. This works. The seam is barely recognizable. I didn't do the touch up that he did. I put the acetone on a shallow plate so I could watch it melt. You must hold it together firmly. My seam was slightly off because I held it together too tightly. But, for me, I would rather have the seam off than the pieces not bond. It is amazing that it works.
I literally just broke them ugh 😭
I fixed mine with super glue,
worked wonders, for 1,75 seconds.
Does that really help?
@@aaronbell89 the acetone way works better than crazy glue
@@aaronbell89 no, she's joking. I've tried a crapload of superglues (Gorilla, Loctite, etc..) and they always snap back apart.
just tried this, it did melt the bridge ends after soaking for a few mins., so, *fingers crossed*, this should work.
So, it works, BUT be very careful how you adhere the two pieces back together, taking into account your PD, otherwise, your vision will be skewed
Very good thank you for the good solid fix. Also try using ABS black sewer glue on black frames, sold in the plumbing dept at Home Depot. I did a fix in 3 min around a lense. THen let is set for 45 m in to cure depending on the quantity of glue used.I would imagine on light color frames you want the all purpose pvc glue
And it works!!!Thank you so much!!One tip though, be extremely careful with acetone regarding damaging the lenses;!
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!😘👍🏻Just tried this! OMG! It REALLY WORKS!😳🎉💃🏻My favorite frames broke. I had to wear heavy frames that were metal.😫It was torture. Again, THANK YOU.
thanks! Worked great on my Rayban Wayfarers! Make sure to not put too much acetone in the cap. You want to immerse obly the edge in acetone.
Do you have to leave it for 24 exactly
This is pretty awesome! I have not had luck with adhesives yet and duct tape is hideous and temporary lol. Good video!
If you have black glasses and the acetone eats off some of the gloss just use black nail polish. If you really want them to blend in wait for the black nail polish to dry and go over with a clear coat
It says you can use acetone to fix them, but since nail polish remover has acetone as the primary ingredient, could you just use nail polish remover?
That's what I used
Sara Rangel did it work
Thanks for the video, how about for a permanent fix? Can I use Epoxy for it?
I used 100% acetone Nail polish, must be 100% though
Works great, something that helped me was to brace them after fusing the melted acetate with a mini hair clip (you know for kids hair or braids?)
Try this out and may help keeping them straighter while drying.
CAUTION! Keep the acetone off the lenses!! it will melt the surface and make them useless... it's usually pretty easy to pop the lenses out of the frame before fixing...
Thank u for the advice
And off your fingers
@Jordan Smith Belittling people, and being petty, and sarcastic adds so much to the exchange. Is this how your parents treated you, Jordan?
@@SarahAllenHumboldt That has nothing to do with someone's parents. Doesn't matter how he said it, he made a point.
@cg plott This was already stated in the video...
I would suggest that you use something other than your fingers to spread the acetone.

Glasses Retailer: “So it would seem”
Thanks. Works a treat.
Only addition I would make is to remove the lenses first so as to protect them from splashes.
What about glasses that split at the part that holds one of my lenses?
Same whatsapp group. I checked another video. They say u can use acrylic powder and its solvent to join the bridge. Im waiting for the nail artist right now so she can let me use her powder. I wil testify
@@primmycooks884 did it work?
why the dramatic music?
The music is irritating. What is the need for that?
It's pirates of the Caribbean! Who doesn't love it haha
i just muted it
I’m going to try this tomorrow! Ugh- I hope it works! thank you for the awesome super hero music! It makes me feel like it is possible and not all hope is lost!
"Acetone: available at most hardware stores." Or, if you do your own nail art, right under your bathroom sink! I have never been so happy to be a Nail Queen! 😍
FYI: _Listen_ to the comments; 2 minutes is _way_ too long! Try it for 20 seconds, then check. Maybe 40 seconds tops.
i am so happy that i followed your instructions because one of my favorite pairs was stepped on and broken in half... ere...
anyway they are back together... seriously thank you SO MUCH... :)
Corky...
is there a quicker way to dry the glasses
I broke my glasses last night and today I superglued the frames back together. However, when I was putting the lens back in, I had some super glue on my fingers that transferred to the lens! Luckily I have a spare pair of glasses, but I really like my old ones. My eyes are used to them.
*What will happen to the lens if I use Acetone to remove the Super Glue?* Will it haze over? I haven't been able to find anything on UA-cam about how Acetone reacts to polycarbonate lenses.
Thanks for this, I work in a kitchen and tape or that crappy 5second fix epoxy does not cut it between heat and sweat
This works I CAN ATTEST to it. :-) Thank You for posting :-)
Does this also work for polycarbonate frameless sunglasses?
Yes, Lina. As long as it's 100% pure acetone, it will work.
you silly ..... 95 % acetone will work too
How can I fix a scratch on my acetate frame of the sunglasses? I recently scratched very lightly my Celine sunglasses its not much noticeable but my OCD won't let me live with it! How can I remove the scratch?
I fixed mine by dipping a cotton bud in acetone, then gently stroking over the scratch once or twice
Please write down which hardware stores I can find Pure Acetone in and The brand ? HELP
Loving the Pirates background music xD
Though I give this a thumbs up for creativity and ingenuity, I must say that when working with either acetone or nail polish remover you should take safety precautions. A pair of gloves, safety glasses are minimums. Don't be sticking your fingers in acetone, even for just a few seconds. Remember, your skin is the largest organ in or on the body.
Such a fitting song! I've been trying to figure out a way of fixing a pair of these for weeks now! Thank you so much
The product description doesn't say what kind of material was used for these glasses. To be sure, we recommend contacting the manufacturer to make sure they are made of pure acetate prior to attempting this fix.
This worked gr8!!! A quart of acetone for 7$. Only used 1 tablespoon to fix mine. That's about 10¢!!! AGAIN... THANK YOU!
It left a cloudy mark on the bridge after I fixed my snapped specs at the bridge. How do I remove the foggy ugly mark now please?
Pure acetone is sold in hardware stores, drug stores, and beauty supply stores.
Thanks so much
Hey, i did this, the frames are melded together, but the color is off the black frames are now like an ashy gray in the place where i laid the glasses in the acetone.
Sharpies
You have to be very very careful when using acetone around the lenses. Depending on the material the lenses are made of you could ruin the lenses. And remeber you have to be 100% sure your frame is made from 100% acetate which is very hard to determine most frames are made out of other materials
will the glasses re-break if dropped?
ok, this video shows how to Fix Broken Acetate Glasses. But how about plastic frames which aren't made from acetate?
HELP PLZ...
will this work on medal nose frames
Really amazing. I tried it this afternoon. One little problem... I forgot about it and left the glasses there for 15 minutes. So that part (which was black) it has a white smudge. Any suggestion? Should I paint it? With what? Thank you so much for this great video!
Vaseline! Now they're perfect! Thank you so much
GPombeiro try using a nail filer.
GPombeiro sorry, I know this was two years ago but do you still remember if the white lines disappear by their own or did you actually filed them?
At where do they sell this acestone
I have 2 spots where the frame is broken, on the top rim of one lens. I assume I should take the lens out first. Is it ok to soak so much of the frame in the acetone? it won't run the color or anything, will it?
Also, you can buy pure acetone in a beauty supply store, I get mine at Sally's :)
No WAY! That's it??
Fabulously easy fix!
Thanks so much for this great tip. Got me out of trouble until I can get new glasses in January…👌
Are they still holding up good
@@yummie69able Yes they were great and then I accidentally dropped them on the lawn and they came apart. But I will fix them again!
I broke my prescription readers last night. I just tried this and it worked! My glasses are drying now.
Are they holding up
Ok, so I looked into this and it appears to a nail polish remover. How does a nail polish remover capable of
bonding like a glue? I am just curious. Thank you...
This is a process called "Solvent Welding", it is essentially softening the base material (in most frames it is a plastic type called Acetate) to allow the two parts to chemically bond to each other, essentially becoming one (as opposed to glue which acts as an interface between the two parts being attached together).
Hello, few years back I dropped superglue on my glasses skeleton, any idea how I can remove the stains? (I got new glasses immediately but I'll have to replace the one I have now and my last skeleton is much more beatiful than anything I can find right now)
I accidentally put nail polish remover on my clear acrylic (I think) glasses... now the frame turned a milky white where the acetone touched it. I thought it was rubbing alcohol and that's how the mistake was made.
Is there a way to get it back to being clear?
will the results differ if i have clear, see through glasses? i just broke them and am really disappointed
I used to use Methaline Chloride to fuse certain plastics together
Hi! Do you maybe know how to glue back TR 90 glasses. iGreen? Tnx!
Does this work for bendy metal type of material glasses
Can I use the same process to smoothen the lightly Corroded layer on my Rayban in Hawksbill color? The layer is on the arm
WOW!!! Amazing! I didn't believe it until I tried it.
Does it work?
@@sahilsingh1649 yes it does. Just have patience and hold it together. It'll hold long enough till you get a new pair
my glasses broke at the left lens area, do you think I could still try this and snap back the lens when it's done?
Thank you it's working fine, but soaking for 2 min is too long and depends on the frame thickness.
I have expensive prescription plastic glasses that are broken- How can I tell if they are acetate
Can i repair metal eyeglasses with aceton or i must use some glue
Does anyone have advice on how to fix/fill in cracks and scratches from dropping glasses??
Thank you, it worked just fine! Now I have to be extra careful not to break them again. :)
Thanks so much! Worked like a charm - fixed hubby's glasses :)
Nice music! It's like a video for nearsighted pirates who want their glasses repaired and get ready to cast off 😄🤓
will this work on plastic ray bans? i need a temporary fix until my new ones are ready.
i cracked the earpiece a little but enough to show the steel inside. How do u suggest i fix this?
Does anyone know the name of the music and who by please?
It's Pirates of Carribean's most famous soundtrack, by Hans Zimmerman I believe
Why is there privates for the Caribbean music playing
Is this only works with plastic glasses ??
Need to lose the grandiose music which is very distracting.
This didn't work at all for me and ruined the plastic; using a hot knife or hot ice pick worked two or three times for a while, and the last thing that is working well is nail glue, gluing the top of the lens into the upper part of the frame since your method messed up the lower rim of the lens holder and it had to be cut off. I'll be buying new glasses soon as these are just temporary fixes.
Thanks for trying to to help.
Does it work on metal once?
can I use nail polish remover instead of pure acetone? pls reply
Can i do this 2nd time around? Will this still work?
Rayban glasses are made of a wide variety of materials, including acetate, plastic, and various types of metals.
your video is a life saver...but idk if my dad will be willing to try this
