What a fun and informative video! I'm working on some glasses now and this looks like it might be the solution! Thank you! I'm going to thumbs up and subscribe!
Works in certain cases not all depends on material like on this guy's cheap ish injection molded nylon based frame it does work I have done it myself many of times to help people out but it's definitely not good as new also it does take a technically minded skilled person to do a good job but for a quick fix it works
Daiyaan Davids amen! I have an assortment of various adhesives in the office where I work. Not only do frame and lens materials contributing factors but location of the break must be considered as well. I prefer slow set two part epoxy in general but adhesives are also available that have a little flexibility making them less prone to cracking. Overall cyanoacrylate glues are the worst choice. However, as you pointed out, using ANY adhesives is only a temporary solution and in no way could it be considered “good as new”
If the hinge is metal and your frame is plastic. You can heat the metal hinge with a soldering iron and metal it right back into the plastic no super glue needed.
@@morekang4urbuck312 without baking soda, how long does it last? and how hard is the entire procedure? what are the chances I screw it up ? we're stuck in the middle of a pandemic and my glasses frame just broke AGHHHHHHHHHHHH
Yeah I’ve done this like 3 times and they keeep breaking Just watch a video where you soak them in acetone and it kind of melts the plastic a little bit and then he squish the pieces back together and let them dry and by the comments it looks like it works so I’m gonna try that instead superglue sucks on plastic
It won’t hold. The plastic (assuming the frame is plastic) must be flexible with just enough give to allow the lens to “snap” in. This means the frame must have just enough elasticity to allow this. Unfortunately cyanoacrylate adhesives (super glue) are molecularly different than plastic frame materials. One is hard and rigid while the other is soft and flexible. When you attempt to snap the lens in the glued repair will almost inevitably break or become significantly weakened. Using cyanoacrylate glues is a short term solution. At times it can also be a necessary one. I’ve been an optician for over 21 years and there are times where a temporary solution like this is essential. In your case what you’ll need to do is apply a thin bead of glue either around the perimeter of the lens or around the inner groove of the frames eye wire. It’s gonna take a steady hand! The glue can easily get all over the lens. Ideally you should use a precision applicator. Hold the frame and lens together until it starts to set. Now you can apply glue to the broken ends. CA glue has poor gap filling qualities so if the two broken ends don’t quite meet using baking soda with the CA will adequately fill the gap. Now instead of the two broken ends holding the frame together you have the entire eye wire sharing the burden. It’s far more durable and more structurally sound 👍🏻
@@donnmccarthy8710 hello Today i broke my metal glasses arm from the top ....i try using super glue but it's not too strong i know i will break again later...what should i do...i really loveeee that glasses
KHAE I’m assuming it must be the barrel (hole where the screw goes through) that broke or maybe the pin that holds the spring hinge assembly together. There’s really nothing you can do for those. The temporary fix I usually use is to join the two pieces together with glue. Cut a paper clip to make two little bars and place them on the top and bottom of the temple joining the temple and frame front and glue those down. Then use heat shrink tubing which is primarily used for electronics. The tubing and glue combined with the structural support from the paper clip provides a sturdy temporary solution. But if you really love your frame and can be without them for a bit I highly suggest doing a google search for frame repair services. These people usually have precision soldering and welding equipment (the same kind manufacturers use to make frames) and do amazing work! I gotta do my due diligence and ask, are you sure it’s not just missing a screw? Just asking because you’d be surprised at the number of people who come to my work assuming their glasses are trashed when really all they needed was a new screw :)

As much as you want. Remember, the material can be filed down and painted.
