    This is my second salvage after Hurricane Milton came though, and after 2 back-to-back hurricanes, this water is looking pretty nasty. This is probably the first one I tried to not get in the water, but unfortunately, my fishing skills (or more like lack of them) required that I still geta bit wet.

    AI-Generated Description:
    Hurricane Milton came through hard, and after two back-to-back storms, it’s safe to say the water isn’t exactly inviting. This is my second salvage attempt since the hurricanes struck, and while I promised myself I’d stay out of the water this time, my plans didn’t go as smoothly as I’d hoped.
    With the debris and murky water making things even tougher, my fishing skills (or lack thereof) didn’t help. Despite my best efforts, I ended up getting wetter than I wanted-but it’s all part of the adventure, right? In this video, you’ll see me battling nasty post-storm waters to salvage what I can and trying to avoid the dangers that come with it.
    If you’ve ever been through a hurricane or had to salvage after a storm, you’ll know it’s not just physically tough-it’s mentally challenging too. Join me as I push through the murky waters (literally) and try to make the most of this challenging situation.

      Capt Ken, you make it look so easy. Was wondering if you were self taught or did some wise “Ole Owl” school you?

    Hi Cap, I really enjoy watching you problem solve these salvage jobs. Good to see you got the winch, how about the wetsuit?
    Good luck on your further adventures!

      you took the words right out of my mouth. About two months ago a guy went out in the water in Texas he had a small wound on his leg he was in shorts. He got a flesh eating micromisim that entered his wound and got into his body and started eating his flesh . He suffered a slow painful death for over 5 days if I remember right . There was nothing they could do for him at the hospital to stop it . There are no signs or warnings at the lake sorry I dont remember what lake it was

    As soon as you arrived I thought “comealongs from the poles to the stern corners to get the gunnels above the water and start pumping”. Next thing I know you’re digging out the gear.🤗 Obvious to me this wasn’t your first rodeo. Well done Skipper.👍

    When I see you struggling after 18:30 : how about a Hook&Moore ? I dock solo without jumping of my (small) sailboat.

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Місяць тому +1

      Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those used to run a line through the eye on a mooring ball? Not sure how that'd help attach a hook to a cleat

    Lots of oil slick with that one

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  14 днів тому

      Tiny bit. It looks bad, but that could've been caused by a couple of drops of oil

  • @ДмитрийАнатольевич-в1я

    Capt. why you dont use booms for oil spill protection?

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  28 днів тому

      We do if we have an oil spill. A free drops of oil does not require it

  • @retinaquester
    @retinaquester Місяць тому +2

    Good work. However you seem to lose quite some oil/fuel at 31:00 visible at the left of the screen.

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Місяць тому +3

      It wasn't actually that much. You'd be surprised how even a small drop of oil can look like a massive oil spill

    Are these salvage videos happening now or where they right after hurricane. I can't believe they would let boats stay sunk that long. My husband say you have to wait on insurence?

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Місяць тому +1

      We do have to wait for insurance which can take anywhere from a few hours to months. Most of the salvage videos are from right after Helene (end of Sept) through early Nov

    Nice job Cap. You said pretty easy but its still impressive to me given the size of some these boats. Were you pumping the water too, couldn't tell?

    What winch is that?

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Місяць тому

      The hyper tough 5500lb. I've done a bunch of modifications to it to make it usable for what I do, but the main thing was it was relatively cheap ($180), lightweight, and had a synthetic line

      Its not, freshwater with salt. Lots of tannins in fresh so brown.

      We call that brackish water here in Eastern NC.

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Місяць тому

      Isn't freshwater with salt called saltwater?

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Місяць тому

      Nah, this is saltwater. It's right off of Sarasota Bay, so not brackish. Still looks nasty though

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Місяць тому

      This doesn't look great, but it's just dirty saltwater. I did a job in Siesta Key a about a month after Milton... That was pretty much sewage back there. In that video (hasn't bee released yet) I say as much and say I really don't want to even touch the water

  • @daniels5408

      They aren't able to control a hurricane... So not much they could do
