    Wow! I can definitely hear a stark contrast between the horns, which is surprising because normally all saxes sound the same to me. I would actually say I prefer the sound of the AWO1. I think the sounds got a bit more character and cuts more. Both horns sound great as always!
    wonderful videos Dan

    So helpful - and none of the usual waffle found in so many of these kinds of reviews. Interesting all the way through. Thanks!

      j r probably the best made saxophones in the world. They sound great and are made to an extremely high standard.

    I have just bought an AWO2 and I really like the case it comes in. I had the springs adjusted for a lighter key action which felt great. I upgraded from a Yamaha YAS-280 after over 2 years of playing on it, My initial thoughts are that it has amazing build quality and all the keys feel in the right place, which is especially good for me since I have normal sized palms but slightly short fingers and my fingers feel comfortable on the key pearls. 5:32 I really like this on the Yani and I wish all saxophones had that. My Conn-Selmer Avant DSS-200 straight soprano long rods flex quite easily and it could really use the bracing. I really like the front F key as you say you can just slide your finger onto it easily.
    I only had one small issue with it, the neck cork was too thick to fit my Selmer Claude Delangle mouthpiece as it fitted quite tight and will have to get that sorted but I was able to do a playtest of it and I found it has a rich, mellow yet powerful sound. The sound is immediate but it requires more air than my Yamaha YAS-280 and I felt like I was running out of breath quicker so I'll just have to spend time to adjust to that and get used to playing it but so far I feel it is the best saxophone I have ever played. I have a Corry Bros tone tablet I used in my Yamaha and tried it in the AWO2. I found it added a slight amount of resistance and a bit more brightness to the overall sound, but I prefer the feel and sound without it. Excellent saxophones.

    I am concerned that the AW01 is overly bright, would that be a problem if I want a dark and warm sound?

  • @sonholee5769

    Man. I found a selmer ref 36 recently for a good price. And a selmer tenor was a dream for years and so I had to buy it. It plays and sounds wonderful. But I wish I had time to test a yani tenor first. I'm only a hobbyist so can't afford another. :-p

    Great review. I was able to get a good idea of how it plays. Just a little bit of feedback- I think a little bit less reverb might be a good thing, just to get a little bit more clarity. Thanks!!

    I like the sound of your personal horn as it sounds much warmer to me. Clearly the control you have over your horn steps forward in a dramatic way. Nice Work

    My AWO1 doesn't feel as good as my 25 years old yani.
    The right-hand pinki, E flat and C just feel funny.
    And some other keys seem a bit high.
    I wonder if it just needs adjusting?

    I don't know, man, you call it "depth" of sound, but the 991 honestly sounded kind of stuffy to me. You swapped horns in the video when I wasn't paying attention and I went "WHOA." The AWO1 sound is so much cleaner to me. That's all subjective, of course. You sound great on both of them.

    Hey Dan, love your videos! You seem like quite the Yanagisawa evangelist, was hoping you could give me your opinion on their line! I recently got an A-901 with the bronze neck and I love the way it plays. It felt a little dead with the stock neck, but the bronze neck really brought it to life. I'm enjoying it enough that it might replace my mark vi!
    My question is... You kind of touched on it in your video, but do you think the newer AW01, or 02 is worth the upgrade from an A901 for non-professional community player? I'm by no means a full-time player, but I do sit in with a couple professional big bands and the local symphony when they need a sax, so I def benefit from that Yanagisawa versatility.
    thanks!

    • @DanForshaw
      @DanForshaw  6 років тому

      Hi Andrew they're both superb saxophones. I guess if you're happy with your current setup then stick with it - you make more difference than the gear! However, there is an noticeable upgrade on the WO series from the previous versions, (better ergonomics & a more centred tone. )

    Yanagisawa's very expensive? Hate to think what you think Selmers are then 😂

    • @uTubeMiester
      @uTubeMiester 5 років тому +6

      The AWO1 is the lowest priced sax in their line and it is not a student sax but a professional level sax. So if you compare it to a Yamaha professional sax, they are actually close in price and the Yamaha (I believe) is more expensive. Do not compare it to a student model sax or even an intermediate level sax because the build and quality of an AWO1 is just much better.

    • @vladimirlopez7840
      @vladimirlopez7840 4 роки тому +1

      Selmer is overpriced for sure. The Yani AWO1 is priced closely the the Yamaha YAS62 both professional saxes but the Yanigasawa is a better instrument all around. I was debating on a YTS62 tenor from Yamaha and the TW01 Tenor from Yanigasawa and bought the Yani its better made has better key work and just a better horn.

    This is all the sax any one really needs (or the Wo2). The "Elite" models (W010 and W020...) probably just "cash grabs" with "features" most players don't really need or will notice are there. Doesn't really seem worth spending the money for a flagship model. From any brand. As mentioned...you don't get $2000 more or better sound. Nor will the ergo be better or even different.
    With Keilwerth...MKX vs SX90...one has straight-tone holes and one round (SX90)...The SX90 comes in a few finishes not available on the MKX...mechanically? I'm not sure they would affect the sound you'd get in the SX90 over a MKX...maybe you could do a video comparing the 2?
